You're expected to either get isma's tear or shade cloak to get to uumuu. Double jump is "needed" for watcher knights even though those statues are intentionally placed there to pogo off of if you know what you're doing. If you can't skip to dream nail the way speedruns do, you'll have to either get the tram pass via deepnest or go all the way through peaks just to get dream nail and get to the right of city. This either involves selling to lemm for lantern or getting desolate dive. So there's a lot of content that could easily be considered "necessary" that's being skipped here

@@itsmeplush i know it's a 2 months old comment, but just for clarification, the double spike kill is free on the current patch of Hollow Knight. On the patch used for Any% NMG it is pretty precise though so it is at least a little bit impressive. :P

I think they talked about this in the GDQ run, but basically once you upgrade your nail you're buffing their HP but upgrading your Vengeful Spirit with Shaman's Stone doesn't do that.
It's a debug mod lol. You can use it to give yourself all abilities (double-jump, shadow dash, etc) or 10000 geo at the start of your playthrough. It's typically used to like test stuff out and what not, so he was probably just messing around w/ some shit or maybe doing some type of run like Goodbye Grub.

there is very theoretically actual RNG in celeste, but it's only relevant for TAS - has something to do with when you are able to clip through spikes and when not (like, *actual* clipping, not dashing in between the hitboxes) ... but yeah, nothing that would be humanly viable to do anyways :D
Just used this to do the under 5 hour achievement. Just had issues with final boss, because I hadn't beaten it before. I got desolate dive, the lvl 2 scream and fireball and void cloak, as well as lvl 3 nail. Final time was 3h 14min, thanks for inspiring me.
It was the great speedrun, and I can really say that it is one of the best plays I have ever seen, I m russian but I like your videos more than others because you are a really talanted and marvellously skilled youtuber and simply great player. I have to say that your speedrun was very fast but you could short you way when you wanted to sit down to the bench in the deepnest, you could climb up to the right wall and break trough the wall which was up of you and short you speedrun a bit :) I m not sure that you can do it without double jump but this is the real fact. The mere concept of fighting the Watcher Knights without shade cloak terrifies me. I was stuck on them my first play through for hours until I looked it up online and found out about the shade cloak. But holy shit that was cool as hell to see. The RNG was overall rough for sure but as far as things that were within your control that was a beautiful run.

@@gamewithgreg Nope. Team Cherry added it for any players who aren't great at the combat, but are observant enough to notice the left wall weakening. They can skip the fight and come back when they're more confident. You'll have to go back and beat him if you want the geo in the chest, or the city crest, which is used to unlock the gate to the City of Tears from the Fungal Wastes.
Having just beat HK blind in just over 23 hours, that skip to Fog Canyon and Queens Garden were shocking. The skip to get early Dream Nail was really cool.
I haven't even been able to get all the items needed to beat the game then here I see someone saying hold my beer with not even close to half the items. God I love your runs man. Keep doing them.

If you notice, he was able to pull off some amazing things that most players like myself wouldn’t even bother trying in a normal play through. Although it may not look that difficult, it is. (Although I’ve only tried to pull off a small amount of the stuff he does)

I think that when the HK screams you should skip the scream(inventory button smash)and you would gain some seconds maybe....
Only nmg way to scream skip is to fall into him in the scream stun, and it only really saves time on the last scream

@@AmikaRk2 I suspect it's either inconsistent, banned under the NMG rule set or not a worthwhile time save. The category is extremely optimised and I don't think fire or any other top runner would pass up a free time save when they are doing stuff like left side TA for a tiny save
