    How right you are. I have the over swing which leads to all the problems you demonstrated, bent left elbow, over the top, loss of distance, tight golf grip etc. I even do this with short irons. I am constantly trying to correct this. When I do it right my swing becomes effortless.smooth, and excellant distance. Under stress I swing faster leading to all of the above problems. Your tips are helping. Thanx

      Yes, there is all sorts of info out there usually aimed at younger people. Plus I am not going to teach you something that gets you to hit one ball longer. I teach older people and I am going to teach you a swing that hits most of your shots long and straight.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Год назад

      Don't get me wrong I prefer shorter over longer as the long swing gets you pulling it down with the arms. The shorter swing gets you using your hips but you can be too short. It is usually short and fast. The problem there is as you get older you will end up hitting it nowhere because you can't fire your hips quick enough to get any power. I would try to get it to parallel with driver or just short. The other clubs of course would be short of parallel too. This length of swing will allow you get power forever. You are probably trying to force the left arm too straight so it is chopping off your backswing. Try this drill for a bucket and see what happens:

    Definitely something worth being conscious about. On average, in between is better I’m sure. I can do any of the three but I prefer a longer backswing. Past parallel. Especially with driver because I feel like I don’t need to add anything to the swing to murder the ball. Literally 10 percent effort. For me, I’ve found that range of motion is worth ten times more than swing effort. That’s just me though. Long and slow.

    • @paulwilsongolf

      This may be but he is young and he can generate the speed with a short swing (see how hard he moves at it). The people I teach can't. So even though this may feel great to some people they need to learn a longer swing. I can swing at 80% full and get the same result as short and 100%. I never want to swing at 100%. The ball could literally go anywhere. You need a swing for life so close to parallel with driver will allow you to build this type of swing.

      Glad you liked it. Yes, that is tricky. So you need to choose one and fix it. Then fix the other. You work on both of these at once and you will never get it. I would do the backswing first. You need to do practice swings every night literally lifting the club and setting the top. I remember going from flat to more upright. I did probably 200-500 practice swings per night for 2 weeks. I was never flat again after that. For you your thought would be parallel at the top. Just match the shaft parallel to the ground and do it nightly. I would be going smooth back. You are short and quick cause you are trying to hit the ball. I just posted this: ruclips.net/video/qV_4zNIwyg8/видео.html That will show you why you don't want to be short and quick. Get that first then we will talk about sliding.

    If thinking about the physics: swinging an object of fixed length over a longer distance (longer backswing) should develop more clubhead speed and thus distance. BUT certain people have shorter swings due to their rhythm and sequence. Trying to make it longer May wreck their sequence. That’s not easy to change. Also longer swing and not hitting on the screws with a square club face is no good either.
    My bigger question is: if 2 guys both turn their shoulders fully (90 degrees) on the backswing, why are some people’s swings longer than others (without cupping the wrist or bending the left arm)?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  4 года назад

      There are many variables. This is a general tip on short and long swings. If I addressed every situation the tip would have been an hour long. Surely, someone with a short swing knows they are putting everything they have into it and a long swings knows they are hitting. If so, then they would follow the tip.

Whats the easiest mechanic for me to keep in mind that will allow me to get it at least close to parallel with the ground? Left elbow bend, or is it more a wrist action? Thank you for your time I enjoyed the video

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 года назад +1

      You need to slow down the backswing for a start. People with short backswings are usually too fast and looking for power going back. You set it going back. Then you look for power coming down. So go slow. Fully hinge your wrists. Then start down with the lower. Do this daily in a mirror watching your backswing until you know the feeling of fully hinging in the wrists. You obviously need to fully coil too. ruclips.net/video/b0fylSrKe8Q/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/MmLjEoyqEIE/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/5_O0H2QNFo0/видео.html

      You want to move your head in the swing. Just watch tour players. In no way do I want people keep their heads perfectly still. July 2001 Golf Digest Jim McLean measure tour pros heads at set up and at the top. Tour average head movement was 3.6 inches. Average amateur was .7 of an inch. Tiger at his best moved it 5 inches. I have taught moving the head for 33 years now. When the person moves their head they get way more power. See it differently the try it. Once you move it you will never want to keep it still:

Use to have a good decent backswing generating good power but somehow along the way I got the shanks and developed a bad habit to get me out of that funk but now I have a really short backswing otherwise I’m back to the shanks. Any correlation between a longer back swing and shanking the ball? Need to get my power back!!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  4 года назад +1

      Glad you like the tips. I can fix the shanks in 5 mins. So simple. Do you shank a 3 iron or do you shank shorter clubs? Shorter clubs right? What do you do when you setup to a shorter club? You bend over more right? When you do your body mass overhangs you toe line. As you take it back you roll onto your toes and get closer to the ball. So stand tall with shorter clubs. To do this do your setup. Look up to the sky. Then look down with your head until you see the club and ball clearly NOT your toes clearly (peripheral is fine). This is a taller setup in balance. Feel rotational in your backswing NOT like you are hitting down on the ball. Done. Fixed. There is a correlation. You do a longer swing being bent over too much and you will get even more weight on your toes coming down. Let me know.

    If one don't have the right teacher teaching them they will never get it. Could've used Doc Wilson's videos at the golf course this weekend. We need 3D videos so the teacher can reach out and shake us to perfection. They say golf is a fun game, I say no, if you don't know how to play and always struggling to be better, how can that be fun? Golf is only fun when you're playing on the fairways not in the woods. This so called fun game cost a lot of time and money by everyone that plays, so lets get it this year before we'll not be aloud out or more golf course's might shut down permanently.

      Thanks for your support. The answers are here and more are coming. They just have to watch these tips. I have the next best thing to 3D videos. How about my being there when you play and practice. This is what my app does. CoachLink allows me to be right there with you checking your positions, giving you a few things to work on or watching you play a hole you have trouble with. I would have killed for something like this when learning the swing. Find out more here: bodyswing.com/coachlink
