Why are people so prone to starting these comments with either ''I'm a Christian'' or ''I'm not a Christian''?! Wouldn't you think it somewhat odd if a Christian wrote ''I'm a Christian, but I did enjoy Harry Potter''? Because in essence it's the same thing. I'm certain that you, like me, see these old testement stories as fairytales, and from that perspective it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy them. As a VFX artist, the sequence with the fish becoming reptile becoming mamal becoming ape and so on, with the background constantly cycling frame after frame, is one of the most beautifully executed and creative thing I've seen. I admire this work.
Well, the sin of the father (meaning the punishment thereof) will be delivered upon the next 10 generations. And, to God, a day is as a thousand years and vice versa. So, yea, we were doomed to murder each other over petty bullshit.
I always believed for years that evolution and faith do not contradict each other at all. I never understood why we had to pick a side. This scene perfectly represents what I’ve been thinking the whole time.
Yeah, I remember being taught this by a Catholic monk in his science class, went to a all boys catholic school. He was talking about the big bang and how everything came from one source and literally had a parellel discussion about the book of genesis. What a great class discussion that was. Everyone was invested and taking notes and talking about it. Unfortunately the hard liners got irked by it. "Let there be light" sounds like the Big Bang to me. I swear if you read some of these physics books read more like complex theological philosophy at times.

I still can't believe how close minded some people are. When I saw this movie, I thought religious and non-religious people will come to an understanding. +hunter christensen we know. Birds came after dinosaurs, so yeah. The flying creatures had to adapt to land first before flying, because, well they have to rest somewhere, don't they ? If I'm correct, the first flying creatures were insects and they had to conquer the land first.
That was such a popular concept 2,000 years ago wasn't it? It's not brilliant, it's stupid beyond comprehension in this movie. Theia wouldn't be imagined for another 2,000 years or more after these people died.
@SanctusPaulus-ic5gl If I have to explain, it's not worth it. Google Theia sometime. Then Google Noah. Note the earliest mention of Theia. Then try to figure how Noah would be chatting Theia up with his grandkids. The concept that our Moon was created from a collision with another object wasn't even created for thousands of years after Noah died. This movie is a perfect example of how Hollywood will pervert anything they want to get their message across. Noah did not believe in the theory of evolution for the very simple reason it did not exist.

You trying to justify this flat out lie that "because it might have happened means they don't have to tell the truth" is total BS as well. What library did Noah go to learn about the Theory of Evolution? Which college did he attend? Did he see it on the Internet? For reference, since you seem clueless, the Bible predates the Theory of Evolution as well. Probably by close to 2,000 years as well. Hollywood can go back about 100 years. So bring it on. How did Noah know about a theory that wouldn't exist for thousands of years after he and everyone in that movie were dead? @ASAPVENENO, you speak the truth, we are all messengers of Christ, and it is our duty to present the good news of Jesus to the world, but we can not impose our faith to others and shove down their throats, we have to give the example that Christ gave to use, that is to love one another, despite what others believe. Considering how this is supposed to be based off a book that a very large portion of the human population holds very dear, I would imagine that the best mindset would be to be as representative and faithful to the book as possible. Considering how that's not the case with this movie on all fronts including this scene, your statement here doesn't amount to much. Besides, we all know that if this scene went full creation instead of mixing evolution with creationism, the same people who are praising the scene would be snorting with derision.

This scene was so beautiful. It connects creation with the big bang theory in such a nice way. I, as an agnostic, love to see these two combined instead of being opposites as usual. Well done, Mr. Aronofsky.
+Hontoni Arigato Historical inaccuracies, stone golem angels, and it dragged on too long. Which yeah I know, it's a movie based on the bible hurr durr what do I mean by historical inaccuracies? The clothing and setting for starters. I didn't know Noah and his family were wearing Yeezy's clothing line at like 2000 B.C and I didn't know we had fully armored knights with long swords and halberds.
I thought Aronofsky did a fantastic job with this film. I'm not going to debate how accurate it was to the Bible (or history) but in terms of human morals in a Biblical context and visual portrayal, he did really well. I do like how pre-Noah events like Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel were done as spirits and shadows as symbols of the past and consequences of what humanity became at that time. I think it's extremely underrated.
Ugh. A second modicum of common sense! Why do people think that the shifting animals is evolution, or that the shifting murders is somehow that we are living in a post-apocalyptic world?
The thing I think that messed with most people is religious people did not like this movie because it's a fantasy sci-fi version if a bible story. And non-religious people didn't see this movie, because it sounded like an overly produced bible story. Definitely carved itself a very niche audience.
I love this scene very much. My faith in God and scientific knowledge are both presented beautifully in this scene. Both describe the creation quite similarly. I thank the filmmakers and God for this movie.
I absolutely love this scene. I love how someone finally had the balls to show that religion and science aren't to be separated, and that both explain one another. Even gods (any).
Well yes that's nice and good but you have to remember that it's not a wide mass of people who are opposed to this notion, but rather a small group of people, mostly elected officials, who skew the story to meet their goals and interests. It's the group doing the leading that's the problem.

I'm a Christian and I love this movie. It s a cool adaption of the story. I also think that God created evolution. Let there be light= Big Bang. Who says God interprets time the same way we do? Those billions of years of evolution could be six days to him...
It's pretty ignorant to deny science because of a book that was written by man and gone through god knows how many iterations. The big bang and evolution being the creations of god make far more sense than your silly adherence to an old book. But then again, you think everyone else who uses their god-given brain to look at things logically is going to hell because they don't believe your strict interpretation.
+Lord Thornton Eddington I do not deny science because of what the Bible says. And no, I don't think people who think logically are going to hell. Even if you aren't religious, the Bible teaches things that people should just do anyway. The Bible says not to judge and to love one another. You don't have to be religious to do that.
I once heard someone mention that when there's the flashes of soldiers from different eras killing each other, it left open the possibility that this story of Noah takes place far in the post apocalyptic future instead of the distant past. That's an interpretation I love :)
This scene is amazing. Visually astonishing, completely beautiful, and tells the most important story for us all: the creation of the Universe, in the perspective of both Christianity and Science. I don't mind if there is a God out there or not... if he is indeed watching us, then his job is beauteous; if he is not, then I am to attribute my very existence to someone or something else, but if there is something that cannot be refuted is that the Universe could not have come from nowhere.

the movie was a masterpiece of cinematography if nothing else imo. the world he created was stunning. the acting i thought was really good. it was pretty dark though, and took some liberties that i would say strayed from what the original story said.. but it's a movie, made for entertainment so it's not a big deal to me.
Kenneth Satria haha thanks, it's weird how people tend to forget that movies are primarily for entertainment.. i guess anything associated with the bible will draw out the zealots. going into the theater thinking a movie about noah would be accurate to the bible is incredibly naive. (especially knowing who made it) a movie like this is folklore. some would say the bible is the same.. but whether you think the bible is or isn't legend, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy a movie like this for what it is.
This idea of the combination of Creationism and Evolution is excellent, it reminds me of the interpretation of Dr. Francis Collins, which blends scientific discoveries and the scriptures into one core idea to the point where two reinforce each other rather than being at odds. Brilliant, I love this.

InvisibleOther It isn't necessary that it's false, simply not proven yet. We thought the Iliad was fantasy and make-believe, yet we managed to excavate Troy and its wall. There's a BIG chance that the Flood did happen since so many cultures besides Abrahamic tradition told that story, though not in the massive scale the Bible might have indicated. More than likely, it probably happened on a smaller scale, but during a time when humanity was small enough that its impact would be devastating.
IRAMantisShrimp Are you seriously comparing the Iliad to a worldwide flood only survived by two of each animal, thanks to the making of a giant boat by some old chosen man, which then was recovered by incest to make today's worldwide fauna?
InvisibleOther I am comparing ancient texts, made by ancient men far older than our time back when the world was a younger place and people were divided by vast geological barriers rather than two different computer screens. The way I see it, the Flood tale more likely involves a small section of the world, where, at the time, most of the human population that composed of the ancestors of the Abrahamic peoples once lived. Given that the Flood story is multicultural, to the point where cultures as far away and unconnected as the Indonesians, the Toltecs, Greeks, and Sumerians share the same story; of a chosen few tasked with protecting a group of animals aboard a giant boat while a massive flood wiped out all of known mankind; there's a very good chance that there's truth to it. There was a lot of volcanic activity and geological disturbances right about the time we began to make our way out of Africa, after all.
i really love how they mix science theory with religion mithology saying that god made the big bang, and 1 day to god was billions of interstellar years, saying that there was 6 days of universe creation for the human minds can understand, but for god was billions and billions and billions of creation years there is even evolution scenes, 100/100 to this idea

Miles Matheson Depends on your definition of fish, all land animals came from some sort of skeletal fish. As “fish” is one of the only aquatic animals with limbs that could potentially evolve into pads that could walk on land. That fish became the first reptile and egg laying creatures are the ancestors of all life. Even non-egg laying animals technically lay eggs in their ovaries. Plants come from a different story, just aquatic plants gradually adapting to land environment the moment bacteria was able to survive on land.

Evolution is bullcrap. Unless you believe that a fish can evolve into a bear. It's showing off all of creation in a single scene, by placing every animal in relatively the same position, so that our limited human eyes can track what's being shown to us.
@@milesmatheson1142 have you ever done gardenning? you can observe directly the transmissions of genes by making a selection of which seeds you put back in the soil and see that you get the characteristics of them in the next generation of seeds. And then, knowing that some genes allow survival more than some others (you probably know some people with bad eyes for exemple, who would have had trouble doing anything without glasses, so probably wouldn t survive to procreate and transmit their genes if not in a society), it means that some genes will actually disappear and others will develop more, which means a global transformation of the species depending of their context. And then because the context always changes (ice ages, geological mouvements, the fact that the other species are transforming as well so changing their ways as preys or predators, new diseases etc) the change never stops and after enough time it can get very far from what it was at the beginning. Or also just look at how fast wolves became domestic dogs, because you can tell for sure that some races of dogs couldn t have lived in the wild the way they are, so they did evolve with human and really fast. So a fish can be a bear if needed, that s how they do :)

Utopic Unicorn I agree with that completely... but in recent history, it's constantly used as a "proof" instead of being identified as the currently irrelevant, allegorical material that it was initially intended for several thousand years ago... just as we have done with all other ancient religions that we now identify as mythology. I would also like to note, that, It is a horrible attempt at creating a non-savage life style... but, when it was written, I doubt they could have even imagined the psychological effects on entire social structures believing these stories verbatim... much less the physical aftermath to follow...
No matter whether you're a theist or an atheist, the "brother against brother, Nation against Nation" scene carries with it a strong message that I personally think hits the nail on the head.

Yeah, I remember being taught this by a Catholic monk in his science class, went to a all boys catholic school. He was talking about the big bang and how everything came from one source and literally had a parellel discussion about the book of genesis. What a great class discussion that was. @SanctusPaulus-ic5gl If I have to explain, it's not worth it. Google Theia sometime. Then Google Noah. Note the earliest mention of Theia.
Yeah cuz religion is NEVER pushed onto atheists
i really love how they mix science theory with religion mithology

Well, I'm an atheist... but I don't care what you believe as long as you agree with me on 2 things:
1) This scene is beatiful
2) The best thing in the movie is Ray Winstone. He steals every scene he is in and kicks ass as Tubalcain
I wish all the athiests here posted a comment like this one.
I thought he was annoying when he was stowing away in the boat.
Turn to Jesus brother.. HE loves you ♥️🙏
Ray Winstone is the man !! He’s gonna be in the upcoming black widow movie they just signed him on
I don’t care if you’re an atheist, mate. All I care is that if you’re a good person or not.
The movie is not about God or the bible or evolution. The movie is about the goodness in man and how we have not and are not living up to our full potential
True. But this scene is about creation, specifically. People are reading too much into the different creatures being shown as "evolution". That's not what's being shown; Not unless you believe that a fish can evolve into a bear. It's showing off all of creation in a single scene, by placing every animal in relatively the same position, so that our limited human eyes can track what's being shown to us.

Even I'm an atheist but still movies are a work of fiction meant to entertain us. So we should forget about our rl while watching them.
"A thousand years in your sight
are like a day that has just gone by,
or like a watch in the night"
Psalm 90:4
This basically says that a single day for God could be a billion years for us. Time moves differently for God. He created time!
I don’t think time affects god at all, or even reaches him. This is simply an idea, not a belief or fact or even yet an opinion.
@@jaimebatista4624 Both are correct. God is largely unaffected by our concept of time, because he has his own- a thousand years is as a day to Him, and a day as a thousand years.
Basically, all those thousands of years of people slaying each other are our punishment for Cain slaying Abel, because the next 10 generations are punished for the sins of the father. The Earth is only 8020 years old, so we still have roughly 1,980 more years of bloodshed. Unless, of course, God decides to bring about Revelations before then. Which, if you've been paying attention to world events, is very likely to happen very soon.
@ThatDamnScottishGuy I think that the big bang and evolution shows God's genius. I mean, why create everything separately, when you can cause an explosion (or expansion) and will create everything as time goes by. I think that it is more amazing to picture God causing one event that creates everything, than creating everything separately.
I’m a Christian and worship Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I’ve studied the history of “Man” and was obsessed with our origins. Reading the Bible answered my questions of who we truly are a beautiful creation who sinned against God. We caused all of this oh how we are fallen, John 3:16 I can’t help but cry out to him and thank him. How my soul longs to return home.
The genius aspect of this scene is they actually managed to combine between creation and evolution.
I'm an old world Creationist and in my opinion (not stabbing anyone else's) this is the best representation of Creation I have ever seen. A simple concept done with such detail and respect. Props to the team that brought this to life, and to the Lord Most High!
I agree fully. I watched this film for entertainment and when this part came on, I was absolutely astonished at how incredibly well this was put together as well.

+Jarek Barocio I'm religious, and I liked it too. Yes, they took liberties, but I felt like the liberties worked.
even though I am an atheist, I actually enjoyed this scene. I like how they wove evolution into the time lapse and how they showed the evil within humanity even though I don't agree with how the evil within our species came to be from that perspective, I believe that as we evolved and as we got smarter, our intelligence gave way to arrogance and ignorance which then gave way to greed, selfishness and a lust for power which grew as time went on.
"He gave them a choice, follow the temptation of darkness or hold on to the blessing of light" and they ate from the forbidden fruit, their innocence extinguished. We murdered each other, we broke the world. Man did this
2:58 I like how it depicts no matter when you live, mankind found a way to kill each other.
I really like how it connects to the scientific interpretation of creation

Yes it is well done. As a Christian I think this creation/eden scene is the best visual representation of what I believe. I especially liked how they linked the tree of the knowlege of good and evil to human conflict.
Overall, a very well done example of a 'compressed narrative'.
Wow, it is really poetic. When the people of the past interpreted it all they took it too literally. Too soulless. But here it shows its real poesy.
the way they show wars that would happen in the future lead me to believe that this is actually a post-apo film

Not unless you believe that a fish can evolve into a bear. It's showing off all of creation in a single scene, by placing every animal in relatively the same position, so that our limited human eyes can track what's being shown to us.
It's biblical apologetics at its worse.

Gotta love how one-sided young earth creationists and anti-theistic evolutionists can be. And "days" can mean any amount of time, since there were no days before the sun and the earth

This is a movie, a "director's opinion" of what he believes, not religious neither scientific facts...
I like the "big bang" explotion, and I think it's the same scene as Xibalba's death from "The Fountain" movie...
Yes and the director has said he is an atheist. So who is the Creator?
Maybe the director read the bible
perhaps he wanted to make a movie and make money? And this movie is not his beliefs?
And since there are 2+ billion christians out there the subject is very good.

The absolutely delicious detail of seeing the Moon being formed from a chunk of molten rock stripped from the proto-Earth after a collision, like the prevalent theories hold, is such a good touch.
deeply satisfying that they put that in, even though it lasts 2 seconds
Why do people assume God’s interpretation of a “day” is confined to the Earth’s 24 hour rotation cycle? Where God is from maybe time moves much slower, therefore a day may be millions of years allowing evolution or maybe a “day” is figurative.
Blew my mind, this scene.

“Adam was but human-this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake, he wanted it only because it was forbidden. The mistake was in not forbidding the serpent; then he would have eaten the serpent.” ― Mark Twain
I don't understand the quote. Can you explain why Twain say that?
@@men_del12 it's human nature to be curious and desire forbidden things or do forbidden acts. So when the God forbidded the apple Adam/Eve wanted it badly. So Twain is saying that it's the God's mistake that he forbade apple which made Adam curious about it. Twain is joking that If God forbade eating a snake Adam would have eaten the snake.
@@muralin239 Ah I see. It does make sen-.....hold on...when he said it's God's fault making humans have that bad thing to be set on them, won't that make the humans with God or God with humans have equal label as bad? And if God & humans are bad, won't that mean both are like a fellowships of bad? It sounds like a good normal family relationship since both are already bad so why needing to accuse one another (God to humans or humans to God)?
@@men_del12 We cannot describe God in human like qualities. So, I don't think God keeps a check on what we are doing. There is a quote from one of Twain's Stories.
“You are not you--you have no body, no blood, no bones, you are but a thought. I myself have no existence; I am but a dream--your dream, a creature of your imagination. In a moment you will have realized this, then you will banish me from your visions and I shall dissolve into the nothingness out of which you made me. I am perishing already, I am failing, I am passing away.
In a little while you will be alone in shoreless space, to wander its limitless solitudes without friend or comrade forever-for you will remain a thought, the only existent thought, and by your nature inextinguishable, indestructible. But I, your poor servant, have revealed you to yourself and set you free. Dream other dreams, and better!
Strange! that you should not have suspected years ago-centuries, ages, eons, ago!-for you have existed, companionless, through all the eternities.
Strange, indeed, that you should not have suspected that your universe and its contents were only dreams, visions, fiction! Strange, because they are so frankly and hysterically insane-like all dreams: a God who could make good children as easily as bad, yet preferred to make bad ones; who could have made every one of them happy, yet never made a single happy one; who made them prize their bitter life, yet stingily cut it short; who gave his angels eternal happiness unearned, yet required his other children to earn it; who gave his angels painless lives, yet cursed his other children with biting miseries and maladies of mind and body; who mouths justice and invented hell-mouths mercy and invented hell-mouths Golden Rules, and forgiveness multiplied by seventy times seven, and invented hell; who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, then tries to shuffle the responsibility for man's acts upon man, instead of honorably placing it where it belongs, upon himself; and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him!
You perceive, now, that these things are all impossible except in a dream. You perceive that they are pure and puerile insanities, the silly creations of an imagination that is not conscious of its freaks-in a word, that they are a dream, and you the maker of it. The dream-marks are all present; you should have recognized them earlier.
"It is true, that which I have revealed to you; there is no God, no universe, no human race, no earthly life, no heaven, no hell. It is all a dream-a grotesque and foolish dream. Nothing exists but you. And you are but a thought-a vagrant thought, a useless thought, a homeless thought, wandering forlorn among the empty eternities!”
