This video really should have been a black screen with the text “go watch it” because you’re right, you really can’t put in to words how amazing this film is
WILLEM DAFOE IS JUST FIRE
So True!
This movie is so underrated!!! Top knotch cinematograohy, story is different, it was personal, visceral, bittersweet. It's just beautiful.
Couldn't agree more!
YUP...An OSCAR for William Dafoe would have been in order as this was a phenomenal performance !!!! Loved the camera technique, costumes / makeup, and cinematography .... a TRUE MASTERPIECE...
I absolutely loved this movie. Thank you for talking about it!
Good video. What I really liked about that film was that it wasn't afriad to show Vincent not being a good person. Because they trusted us to know who he really was. Great film second best Vincent film behind 'Loving Vincent.'
I wasn't even even prepared to watch and i already knew defoe was the only person in Hollywood to capture Vincent this well
I like this video. It is a nice video, I enjoyed it. You are great.
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it
If you loved At Eternity's Gate watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
I just saw it for the first time, and I'm really torn with this film. One the hand, it was a very artistic take on a very artistic man. I think the overall style did kinda fit the style of his work. And yeah, the handheld cinematography, the POV perspectives, etc. did serve to give you a peak into a different mind and all. But on the other hand, I kinda hated the entire experience haha.
I guess I'm glad that there are so many people who loved it, but it definitely wasn't for me. The acting, however, was top notch, and I actually really enjoyed the scene where Gauguin said he was leaving, as I felt it showed pretty well what a panic attack can feel like.
That's a very valid take, the film is certainly stylized and therefore not for everyone. While I do believe all of the cinematography is effective to the story I could see how you could dislike it as well
Man the trailer is OUTSTANDING. The second I saw it, I could not wait to see this film. I play video games, love comic book movies, but this trailer was the most unique thing I ever saw. This movie should not appeal to me, but it was so creative on so many levels that I had to see it in the theater.
Although his hair is very brown and he is portraying a man in his 30s, Willem Dafoe had amazing acting in this.
You sold me on checking it out. Looking forward to it.
Nice, definitely lmk what you think
Nice video 👍
just finished watching this, totally get why people dislike this. the yellow filter and black and white filter is odd and the flashback to lines that happened two seconds ago was also strange. i liked the cinematography as well. great video essay though!
edit: oh yeah this film is a masterpiece
Its a masterpiece, indeed!
Thank you :)
Thanks a lot for talking about this film. This is truly wonderful
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good film but the shaky camera was a little too over the top.
I thought it was perfect, to simulate the manic feeling of seeing the beauty of the world just like Van Gogh saying he didn't want to slow down
I’m convinced. Looking forward to watching the movie. This is a great review. We’ll done.
Great analysis! You mind explaining what is happening to the screen at 1:47 and 1:50? I would really appreciate an explanation. Thank you.
Thank you! I think you are talking about that glitch the happens, if so that's not part of the film and for some reason was the only footage I could find had that. If you were talking about something else definitely lmk and ill try and do my best to answer
@@Blackout-studios Yes I was talking about the glitch. I thought it was just a filter that you added for the clip. I want to know what that specific glitch is called because I'm planning on using that effect for my future projects.
Makes sense, but I don't know what that glitch is called since I didn't put it in there. However, I just did some research and found some glitch overlays that might be able to help you with your future projects.
This is the link: fixthephoto.com/glitch-overlay
Hope it helps, also what do you use to edit?

600 baby,
I can’t get over dafoe being 30 years older than Van gogh
Understandable, although for me his performance allows me to forget that
i preffer loving vincent its an painted movie about the mystery of how he died
I’ve heard of that, it looks incredible!!

Народ желает наслаждаться не только искусством , но и муками Гения, когда он не требует платы и ничего взамен , за свой труд.

Obligatory "THATS NOT HOW YOU PRONOUNCE "VAN GOGH"!!!"
I know. He states how it’s his favourite film, yet cannot get the f ing name right. Typical American

Stop saying Go. it’s not Vincent Van Go, lol
FFS. It’s GOGH. NOT GO.
I didn’t like this film at all and i truly wanted to love it. The scenery was great and willem was wonderful but i didn’t like how they didn’t include his childhood and his venture into being a minister to his relationship with a prostitute. Also, the shaky camera was too much
Very valid criticism, the film definitely honed in on a certain point in his life and it would've provided more depth had we been given a wider perspective on his life.
Hand-held camera ruined it for me. Totally unnecessary and imo, renders it unwatchable
Boring movie
Yes, this film is beautiful and special among most of biografic movies. I am regretful in cause of "At eternity's gate" doesn't last longer as an example this year's "Napoleon". From between whole life full of passion and desire of greatness this movie contains only last months of Vincent existance.
🎨
It would've been cooler if Willem DeFoe had a Dutch accent.
