Yes this is a homage to Michael Jackson. That's clear to everyone. It sounds familiar because It is reminiscent of the same funk disco era.

A lot of his outfits are exactly like this lol I know the mj inspo is intended here… but it’s funny when ppl think this is brand new or something. 71 year old Army here. This truly has nothing to do with Kpop other than JK is S. Korean. All of JK's solo releases including his just released album "Golden" are all in English. There are no S. Korean songwriters, producers, recording studios or MV shooting directors or locations, etc. He is blowing past Kpop and jumping head first into the American pop market. For all of his solo releases he is using American Grammy Award winning songwriters, producers, recording in the U.S. and filming at mostly U.S. locations such as Universal Studios in Hollywood. This one, however, is an abandoned power plant in Budapest, Hungary. No green screen. There is a photo online if the exterior with that that cool glass room. The director is a very famous Ukrainian director who has directed for Harry Styles and many others.
His self professed dream of being a giant pop star is clearly beginning in a big way! BTW, there are now 3 live performances. iHeart Radio, Jimmy Fallon Show, The Today Show, and there is a KILLER Official Choreo Version.

Jung Kook is Soooo talented - his vocals, his dance moves (always so strong and sharp movements, but also can be smooth), and he may disagree, but also his "acting" (aka stage presence). He's the whole package! I dare say the New or Upcoming King of Pop! For now, he's liking "Global Pop Star". His company even said that this was a "subtle tribute" to Michael Jackson. I don't think it's so subtle, but yeah. If you Really want to see the MJ come out, watch the Choreography version of this. JK is just Sooooo Amazing! Also, kudos to the backup dancers (who are all prominent choreographers and dancers in the industry, by the way).
