13:57 small "correction" or additional info: the foresight slash is also a very good opening attack when engaging a monster. you cannot just counter attacks but also large monster roars. so if you know how a monster reacts to the initial attack you can foresight the roar, do the R2 roundslash follow-up and essentially get a free meter upgrade right from the start. either that or you distract the monster with slinger ammo and clutch onto its face for the wall bang.
Great guide, man! I've been playing LS for a long time in the MH franchise, in MHW I just left it because there was too much people using it. But when I saw u playing and realized it was much more smooth than the other games, had to bring it back...
I was same, i wanted to play rar weapons but after i tried ls in iceborn again, i realized that there is fk good reason why so much ppl play LS, because its just amazing 👌🏽
Longsword is a very forgiving weapon, you can easily break out of your attacks by using foresight. For other weapons like greatsword and even dual blades, greatsword is very risky because it is slow, so its high risk high reward type of weapon, and dual blades have 4 different moves that are locked in when pressing buttons that can only be broken by getting hit , a roar, or finishing the combo. LS is much more efficient, I just wish that dual blades could get a buff because they are super weak compared to LS no matter how many attacks or jewels you have on them. Dual blades deplete stamina, they can't block, they are very short, and do too little damage (only 100 damage per hit including elemental). And yes dual blades are a very good elemental weapon, but the only monster that really needs a certain amount of elemental damage is alatreon. sword and shield is turning out to be stronger than dual blades, and it has a block. I wouldn't mind them making dual blades harder to use in trade for higher damage, but right now they are treated like 2 sticks.

After like 3-4 weeks of playing MHW and nothing but LS (300 hours lol), I finally got my foresight’s down pretty consistently. At first, it was a big change from the previous games but now I can’t imagine not having foresight in the next titles.
Hey DG, since you said you would be doing more guides on how to counter different monsters and show their different move sets, I can't wait to watch a video of you facing Raging Brachydios again. I didn't see much of those in your previous videos, but it would be very helpful and awesome to see you face Raging Brachy again with a perfect run!
This makes me want to create a tutorial video for the bow. I see way to many people using dragon piercer in the middle of battle and not throttling their stamina when their stamina is low in certain situations. I know about three advanced techniques that are used for niche situations that are only learned by firsthand experience. Practing each weapon for extended periods of time will teach this.
DG, ive noticed you don't do this one thing in foresight, and its controlling its direction. The foresight moves the Opposite way you move it.. Like if you wanna move to the left, you foresight to the right (Inverted in short). It can help the slash hit on some attacks that are hard to hit with foresight such as, monsters standing when agitated. I promise it will help a lot.
yes you can control the foresight direction. it helps to connect the round slash after say Nergi's roar before his three directional slam attack. No directional input means by default you will step backwards. Directional control also helps to foresight rajang's thunder breath from the side even if it is not aiming at you.
And one more thing, you even can interupt a foresight slash in the middle to special sheath. It's kinda not good idea but if you predict the foresight will not hit anything, you can just go into the special sheath instead
Quick Fact in the Iai Spirit Slash. The move is really good at breaking parts because the *second hit* has major partbreaker bonus. Second hit ONLY. The first hit has none.
I’ve been using longsword since mhw came out and I’ve learned a lot from this video dg ty for reminding me not to get to greedy lol it causes me sometimes and time to practice lol 😂
common mistake with rookies is that they think LS is just about spamming combos haphazardly like they're playing DMC. but using LS is like a dance. you gotta attack with rhythm. like you said, combos has to be fluid. it's all about consistently repositioning and timing your hits. most LS users i see on randoms just fill their spirit gauge and spam helm splitter. xD
Well ls is about knowing the monster. Keeping the agro to yourself so you can literally counter every attack and do mad dps w helm splitter, the better you dodge w it the more helmsplitters you can get of and since thats the most dps its obv really effective
Thx alot! I really got into this game but then stuck with same stuff and taking terribly long to kill monsters, you helped me with timing, damaging, and repositioning my hunter. Thx alot!

@@LandoIsLit When it comes to Alatreon honestly LS isn't the most effective match up.
