Wow I like this ending because it's sweet, and it gives Triton an epiphany, you know when he says, "This human saved my life", it shows that he sees Ariel's point, that not all humans are bad.
I feel it would have been so much stronger if Eric had also been transformed into a Merman. It could have given some good scenes between Triton and Eric, maybe even a kind of father to son moments where Triton could show his love for Eric, like the son he never received and perfect acceptance of him as a member of his family. Sigh.... I wish there had been some scene where Triton and Eric could have such a love scene :(
I prefer the final version's dialogue because it focuses more on his relationship to his daughter which is more important than what he thinks of Eric. In the final version its clear that he is doing it because he loves her.
The one thing I wholeheartedly wish they kept from this version was Ariel singing at the end, 'now we can walk'... It's like the prettiest singing I ever heard from Jodi, and it was very meaningful, too, for Eric to finally hear her singing coming directly from her.
I really love this version, it’s so beautiful that we have Triton saying to Ariel ‘it’s alright sweetheart [...]’; that simple line really shows the power of a parent’s unconditional love to show forgiveness to a child. I feel this scene is even more powerful because we see not just a parent’s forgiveness but most importantly a father’s forgiveness. Also having Ariel gain her voice back in this way has so much gravitas.
"we see not just a parent’s forgiveness but most importantly a father’s forgiveness" what the hell, why is a father's forgiveness smh more important than a mother's. You are embarrassing, don't air your daddy issues
Sebastian retrieving the trident is perfect: he sings "Under the Sea" to keep Ariel home, sings "Kiss the Girl" to help save her from being owned by Ursula, and here, saves the day! Underrated hero
I love this ending and wish they would've put it into the real movie! It makes Ariel look so much stronger by her fighting Ursula instead of just flopping around trying to not be killed, and it makes Ursula look so much more evil by pulling Ariel down by the hair and trying to strangle Eric! And the scene where Ariel is apologizing to triton was so emotional ! They should have used this ending instead
dominic romani Yeah, well most of the earlier Disney princesses only fell in love based on appearances (Ariel included), and aren't nearly as badass or "girl-power" as they are now
Yeah it definitely makes me want Triton to help her more. In the original it feels like there's this hidden message of like "I deserve to be human. My dad was such a jerk."
I like this ending because it fleshes out Sebastain's character more. Remember, he was more skeptical of Eric and the idea of Ariel being human. Having him be the one that helps Eric defeat Ursula shows how much he's changed.
Well... It was that or Ursula's Kingdom, horror, death and destruction... Also, he is a good character, why wouldn't he help defeat Ursula? He also helped Ariel, he had already changed.
I don’t know to me it seemed ridiculous to see him see a sea creature actually help him out as if sea creatures can talk which they only seem to do mermaids and merman and not humans.
@@patrickwilson1459 Well Sebastian was able to whisper Ariel’s name to Eric, which led to him saying “Ariel, that’s kind of pretty”, so Eric can understand Sebastian.
I think this ending is superior to the chosen one. The majority of criticism aimed at TLM is based on the belief that Ariel lacks a character arc - she makes an awful mistake, but other people fix it for her and she gets a happy ending without needing to apologise. By having her contribute directly to Ursula's defeat, and giving her a proper apology scene, this draft rectifies these problems. Furthermore, the fact Ariel does not get her voice back until after Ursula's defeat means that Eric is fighting for her because he loves her for who she is, and not merely because she is the girl with the beautiful voice who saved his life. That completes his character growth as well, and allows him to be more interesting. Whilst the chosen ending is spectacular, this one provides greater depth and is therefore superior.
She does apologise in the finished film, but the apology here is more effective. The climax we got is spectacular, but, as I said, most criticisms of TLM are based on the characters, and this original versions remedies most of the problems with them.
+Rtotalmagic Actually Eric does pick Ariel before she gets her voice. If you look at him in the scene where Ariel peeks out the curtains, when he throws away the flute (or the song rather) he turns like he has given up on the mystery girl and is about to go to Ariel, when he is cursed with the spell, which is broken after Ariel regains her voice
I'm not implying that Eric and Ariel don't show character growth in the finished film, I'm just saying that this original end does a better job of depicting it.
+Rtotalmagic Honestly I think the only reason it was changed was because it wasn't a"big" enough of an ending. If I recall correctly in this version Ursula doesn't become a giant monster and seemed easier to defeat. I like both endings but I prefer how Ariel actually sings to Eric at the end.
This ending is so much better. Ariel is fighting. The music is amazing. And the moments between Ariel and Triton make the ending so much more meaningful
I feel it would have been so much stronger if Eric had also been transformed into a Merman. It could have given some good scenes between Triton and Eric, maybe even a kind of father to son moments where Triton could show his love for Eric, like the son he never received and perfect acceptance of him as a member of his family. Sigh.... I wish there had been some scene where Triton and Eric could have such a love scene :(
Same! Thankfully the Broadway show had Ariel sincerely apologize to her father by saying to him, “I’ve caused you so much trouble. Can you ever forgive me?”: ruclips.net/video/8YCLuyllF4A/видео.htmlm4s .
After seeing this alternate ending deleted scene, they should added what King Triton said. Added Triton's lines that says. "That human saved my life, Ariel's life and your life Sebastian. He saved all of our lives." Sebastian agrees with him. "Yes. Yes he sure did your Majesty." Then Triton and Sebastian see Ariel looking sad. Triton then says to Sebastian. "She really does love him. Doesn't she Sebastian?" Sebastian replies. "Well it's like I always say your Majesty. Children have got to be free to lead their own life." Surprised Triton says. "You always say that?" Nervous Sebastian uses body language to say. "Yes. Please don't feel offended." Triton sighs. "Then I suppose there's only one thing left to accept." Sebastian asks. "And what is that?" Triton answers. "How much I'm going to miss her." I mention how I feel because I think it would have been nice to see Triton finally acknowledging that not all humans are bad.
Marguerite21 Meh, too much unnecessary dialogue you put there. They showed Triton's changed view on humans perfectly through his actions and even facial expressions at the end of the movie. If they had given him more lines like you suggest the scene wouldn't have felt natural, mainly because he would be stating the obvious.
+Marguerite21 I think the only dialogue that should have been kept was Ariel's apology to Triton. All this happened in the first place because of her. Not that I'm not saying that Ursula did not manipulate her, but a simple "I'm so sorry" would have been plenty without the extra dialogue in the transformation scene.
That version actually makes Ariel more likeable character. Also I would love to see how Eric tried to save unconscious Ariel diving after her like she had done before.
@jf k I never felt that Ariel truly apologized to her family for the hurt she caused. She said sorry when everything was terrible but a true apology after everything would go a long way. And then her father could see that being with Eric would truly make her happy. Triton is the only character that changes and grows and the largest character arc is triton letting go of his daughter. Them having a moment together is very precious.
@@indiciaobscure Ariel does learn to appreciate her father's love. That's why at the end, they both hug, and the last "I love you" goes to her dad, not to Eric. She even had tears in her eyes. I think the creators used this as a subtle way of saying "thank you".
I agree this ending feels more heartwarming and I feel like Ariel was truly sorry for what she did and apologizing to her dad was a nice touch . I also love the score in this version it’s so beautiful.
I’ve heard rumors that the ending for the live action remake will look not exactly but somewhat similar to this. Especially the hug scene. I’m really looking forward to even hearing the duet between Prince Eric and Ariel.
Oddly, this seems much more epic than the final version. Ariel manages to beat the crap out of Ursula, she gets thrown onto a rock, Eric runs for his life as Ursula tries to catch him, he stomps one of her tentacles with a rock and finally blasts her with the trident just like a sniper's headshot. Then the producers read The Call of Chtulhu and we got the seafood shibkebab sequence...which still turns Eric into a badass, since he brings down a 150 foot Kraken with nothing but the bowsprit of a sunken ship.
I feel it would have been so much stronger if Eric had also been transformed into a Merman. (He might have lost a leg in the fight, so Triton gives him a new life) It could have given some good scenes between Triton and Eric, maybe even a kind of father to son moments where Triton could show his love for Eric, like the son he never received and perfect acceptance of him as a member of his family. Sigh.... I wish there had been some scene where Triton and Eric could have such a love scene :(
Casper Richter If Eric turned into a merman, who would be running the kingdom then? 😂 It’s not like Eric had other siblings. At least Triton has six other daughters who are in line for the throne. If Ariel leaves her world for Eric’s, it’s not much of a loss for Atlantica.
There are a lot of little details I wish were kept for the final version of the film: * Triton having his own character arc created by acknowledging that a human, Eric, saved him and his daughter. We saw moments throughout the film where he second-guessed his actions and choices, and those are vindicated by this moment. * Sebastian directly contributing to the victory by retrieving the trident and handing it to Eric. It gives him a full arc from his initial refusal to help Ariel early in the film. * Ariel trying to fight Ursula after pulling her hair to make her miss Eric and hit her pet eels. * The dramatic irony that Eric slays Ursula with the very trident she had coveted for its power over the sea. * Ariel having a moment to apologize to her father for throwing away her common sense and trusting Ursula. * Jodi Benson singing the Reprise of Part of Your World, bringing Ariel's arc through the song to full completion.
@@disneyrules7808 You know how in the original Ariel gets her voice back after Scuttle broke Vanessa's (Ursula's disguise) seashell necklace containing the voice, right?
@@singalingalongalingExcept Ariel’s apology sounded more like plausible deniability because Ariel did mean to and Ariel did know. Ariel apologized because she got CAUGHT signing a bad contract. At least in the live action remake, Ariel’s apology to her father for making the deal with Ursula is more sincere since she admits to fault: “I’m so sorry, father. This is all my fault”.
I like that in this version ariel apologizes with more sincerity, in the original it feels so rushed and also that triton recognizes that not all humans are bad as he was saved by one, i like also the ending with Sebastian and the chef and ariel giving her father a rose
Here's my take on the ending: Ultimately I think the ending in the finished film works perfectly fine. It's very cinematic and it establishes just how powerful Ursula is with the Trident. And I love the dialogue between Sebastian and Triton right before he turns Ariel human. Also, I adore the choral reprise of "Part of Your World" at the end, it really harkens back to the Disney movies of yore. It also makes a lot more sense to have Ariel regain her voice before the battle. It gives Eric a stronger motivation to try and save her. What I do really like in this version though is how violent it is. It really feels like an intense two sided struggle, whereas the final version basically resolves via Deus Ex Sunken Ships. It almost plays out like the climax of a horror film. It's debatable whether or not Ariel is actually more active in this original climax, since here she doesn't redirect Ursula's aim at the eels and she's knocked unconscious halfway through the battle, but I like how she engages directly with Ursula more than in the final ending. I also love Ariel's emotional apology and Triton's acceptance. If that was given more room to breathe it could have been so powerful. And even though I don't think it works as well, good LORD Jodi Benson sounds so damn gorgeous singing that reprise. The perfect ending is somewhere between the two. Both have their pros and cons. I hope for the live action version they can have a good synthesis of the two and maybe have Ariel play a legitimate active role.
I think Halle Bailey confirmed Ariel would be a stronger more active character in the live action. So I think she will definitely be more active in the ending
@@Jai05What that normally means is steam rolling over the original character and replacing it with generic faux feminist girl-boss energy unfortunately. I’m sure Emma Watson thinks her version of Belle is stronger, but she’s flat as a pancake (and takes all of poor Maurice’s personality away too). Fingers crossed though for a remake with more of an emphasis on her anthropology passion instead of “don’t need no man, except maybe I do”. But I think Disney cares more about presenting itself as feminist than actually featuring women with diverse and interesting strengths.
Well i love this more because Ariel sing in the end and we have beautiful dad kid scene. But the other scene is better because of choir and cook(its hularius) and "I love you dady: taht makes me cry every time.
I can't even decide if Ariel silently emerging from the water going to Eric was more epic than her going to him singing like she did when they first met. Jodi seriously belted out those words and it was glorious! I got the chills.
*JESUS CHRIST* Ursula is brutal here. Not only is she pulling Ariel by the hair, but she also strangles Eric and attempts to *DROWN* him. I kind of wish they kept this ending in, especially with that moment between Triton and Ariel
Lemon Melon Agreed. Ursula’s brutality is why I like Eric in this version. You can really feel how much pain Eric is in, holding his lungs for a LONG time underwater, *all in the name of love and risking his life for Ariel.* Yeah, his girlfriend is a fish. 😂 BUT the fact that Eric still went after Ariel and risked drowning and strangulation by Ursula’s tentacles for her is TRUE LOVE if I ever saw it. I don’t buy the feminist complaint that “The Little Mermaid” teaches girls to change themselves so the boys could like you. Ariel wanted to be human PRIOR to meeting Eric. Even when her true mermaid identity was revealed to Eric, it didn’t change how he felt about her. When Ariel was kidnapped by Ursula and forced back into the ocean, Eric still went after Ariel and risked his life to save her under the sea.
The fight here feels more intense than what we got with the final product. The final does have Ursula's absolute power and size mixed with Ariel's helplessness and Eric's desperation, but because of the size and power difference, it doesn't feel as much of a struggle as waiting for the right opportunity and timing. With the deleted scene, not only do we see Ariel fight back (more than just a hair-pull) and see her get legitimately injured, but Ursula chasing Eric with her tentacles is legit intense as she becomes a feral monster as opposed to an all-powerful sea-goddess. And let's face it, being strangled and drowned is a much more gruesome fate than being magic blasted. Along with Sebastion helping out more and Ursula getting killed by the power she wanted (the trident), I feel like this was a much more fulfilling final fight. In essence, this and the official ending is like comparing a big monster boss fight to a 1v1 boss fight; the big monster fight has the scale and the spectacle but the 1v1 has the intensity and personal rivalry come to a head.
No, Katzenberg's the one who told the crew "Make it like Die Hard". These storyboards looks like Glenn Keane might've done them (which might explain why Ursula looks like Ratigan, since he animated Ratigan). Just check this link averagejoeartwork.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-7-486546909 & read the description. That'll answer everything.
Oh my gosh I wish they kept the bit with Ursula wrapping her tentacles around Eric and trying to drown him. That’s so evil and epic. And also where Ariel apologies to her father and he says it’s all right. They NEEDED that moment. Also ‘that human saved my life’, when Triton realises not all humans are bad. And when Ariel sings too 🥺😭 So good.
Eric with longer hair at the end o.o As much as I love the movie, I wish they'd stuck with this ending! Ariel fighting made her seem like a stronger character here.
Yeah, I like that because it shows that time has passed and they didn't get married like that day. My hair only grows like an inch a month and my hair apparently grows fast. That's at least half a year later, looking at how much new hair he has. They went on dates AFTER she could talk. And stayed together.
I do like how this ending adds more depth to the characters. There is one difference I don’t like. The fact that Ariel doesn’t get her voice back until after Ursula’s death. I just love the sequence with the animals torturing Vanessa/ Ursula on the wedding yacht. Especially the contributions of Scuttle and Max who successfully break the enchanted 🐚 necklace.
Who wants Disney to release a piano score version of the background music for this movie; just Alan Menken's original piano demos? I WANT a recording of the whole thing. It's so pretty! :)
I own The Music Behind the Magic and The Legacy Collection Little Mermaid, and they're both great. :) I would love to hear more of this piano score, though, since all the demos out there seem to be vocal. I didn't know Menken had a piano demo for his whole Little Mermaid score, but now I want to hear it! :)
The, "That human saved my life" line is one I wish they'd kept. I'd only change one part of it. Instead of Triton saying "my life", he should have said, "our lives". It would show that he realized that, not only are humans not all bad, but that this one in particular can protect Ariel, the way Triton always wanted to protect her himself. He can trust this one human to protect his precious daughter. It would complete his story arc of being a human-hating, over-protective father in every way.
@@Guilty-Gearer-Does-Things "Our lives" still includes Triton. Just because I added Ariel, that doesn't negate his gratitude for his own life being saved. 😂
I definitely prefer this one. The fight is so much more intricate and requires so many players. The added suspense by adding Ariel into the mix of Triton and Eric is great, too. What really gets me is that Ariel actually tells her father she is sorry in a far better manner (in the chosen take it comes off more like she is afraid of getting in trouble for all the mess she made rather than sincere remorse - when you pair it to how many kids saw the destruction of her grotto scene...) and that she never meant to hurt him - shame it wasn't more tearful, though... From the original tale by Christian Anderson and Disney's take on the story, I have always found the character of the little mermaid to be incredibly selfish because there is almost never any mention of her thinking about her family. Sure, there is that one moment in this movie where she does pause and think of how she'll never be with her father or sisters again, but it was immediately clouded over when Ursula notes "but you'll have your man". Both versions, however, she spends her time completely immersed in the prince without sparing a thought of what her family is going through. She leaves them without a trace and all the time she is gone they are worrying like mad over her and has the whole kingdom searching for her whereabouts - and the worst, deepest fear that she might be missing because she is dead is likely in the back of all their minds.
Not really,in the book she talks to her sisters every night when she goes to wash her bloody feet in the steps of the palace by the sea .Her grandmother went balled from grief and is present with the father though from a distance. She has a much stronger relationship with her family in the original tale and does kiss them goodbye before she goes to the steps of the prince's palace To drink the potion
@@alexp.d3689 Ah, thank you for the reply. It spurred me into reading the tale again. Most of my life must have been spent reading an abridged version, because what I am reading now certainly has details that I do not find particularly familiar. Nevertheless, my views remain. She may spare a thought for them, but she is so dead set on living as a human and gaining an immortal soul she never stops to consider all the pain and grief she will cause her family - who obviously loves her dearly. In some ways it is worse in the original tale, because she actually sees what her family is going through over losing her. (I haven't read anything about her washing blood from her feet and her actually talking to her sisters, though.) Anyway, as it goes... she left the night of a great festivity, went straight to the sea witch, made the deal and abandoned the family that adores her as well as her own kind. She leaves them completely in the dark when she disappears and it is only by fortune her sisters actually know of the prince's palace and eventually think to search for her there. (I never read anything about her washing blood from her feet or of her "talking" with them.) After that she sees what her decisions have led to. They had been worriedly searching for her all that time, are sick with grief and mourn over her, but she shows no remorse. She just smiles at them in hopes that they know she is happy. Really... I just feel sorry for her family more than I do for her.
I like this ending because Ariel is a lot more active in the climax and she has that moment to talk with her father afterwards, but I liked that the ending that they DID go with put emphasis on Triton coming to respect Ariel's choices and also accepting Eric. This one it puts more emphasis on Triton coming to accept Eric which is fine but There's no "She really does love him" moment. Also I loved how epic the official climax got with Ursula strutting her stuff now that she has everything she ever wanted, growing huge, making tidal waves, raising ships and blasting anywhere she wants. I think between this ending and the official one is something really spectacular. Find some way to mix them together
I love the ending they have in the movie, with the giant Ursula, I think it's one of the best final battles in any Disney movie, along with Sleeping Beauty. And that brief reprise of Part of your world sung by Ariel is absolutely beautiful.
I do agree with most that this ending contained better character development for each character But I feel obviously the dialogue was better in the original one and the fight scene was more simplistic but I think overall the substance of this one helps the characters development better than the original . Overall beautiful both of them
There is more heart and emotion in this ending. I like it better but I can see why they went with the more "epic" ending in the final film. I would have kept Ariel fighting Ursula a bit more, the moment between Triton and Ariel where she apologizes and her singing as she comes towards Eric. I actually prefer the wedding scene in the final film to this one.
Giant Ursula is cool, but I prefer how she doesn't go giant in this version. It makes the battle feel more intense and personal. The way she chases Eric feels like something straight out of a nightmare.
I would've loved to see that fight scene between Ariel and Ursula, it could've been a better moment in the movie..... and it would've made the scene if Ariel was seen singing "Now we can walk, now we can run,'' As Eric was looking at her in shock then happiness
It’s kind of ironic to see Ursula be done in the trident’s power, which was the one thing she was after. And in a way, it kind of does happen in the final film. When she’s impaled by the ship’s bow, the trident’s power results in her getting struck by lightning and sinking.
I absolutely love this version (almost a bit better then the original released one) but the thing I did like was that in the og Eric stabs Ursula in the gut with a huge boat instead of just the Trident and both are really climatic but the Boat just “hits” differently if you get my drift, but yes I love how everything else seemed more intense when it was the battle like when Ursula was pulling Ariel’s hair & drowning Eric (along with its music choices too) it was so crazy! I also love how sweet the ending was as it sort of made up for its intensity from the beginning, the whole part with Sebastian changing from a grumpy crustacean to a sweet helper as he gave Eric the trident was so humble, the parts with Ariel actually apologizing as well as King Trident realizing that not all humans are bad was even sweeter but to top it all off just that ending with the marriage, singing & even too how Sebastian doesn’t get hit but the knife as the chef was cutting the cake was ahh just so adorable and in general funny and ofc sweet all together! Just loved it! 👏🥹
Including that extra emotional beat, the moment between father and daughter apologizing and reconciling, really made their relationship and motivations so much stronger. Shame it was cut!
i'm sorry, but eric's expressions prevented me from experiencing this scene seriously. you've got an amazing piano piece, ariel fighting for once, and all of a sudden a wonderful show of eric's "oh shit" face and i was gone. XD
@@Sprinkling_waters Don't worry, I absolutely love it, but his expressions look like he's about to start panic swearing and it's just so different from the grim determination of the finished product and it made me cackle :)
Yeah it looks cartoonier, but I suppose it's used to have a general idea of his expression since it's a draft... And yeah they really should've stuck to this ending.
It does not make sense why I literally cried watching this. This was such a beautiful scene, honestly. I think I got hit with major nostalgia, remembering how beautiful the actual scene in the movie was. This was so beautiful to see.
Apart from the colossal Ursula being more threatening, this is a superior climactic battle and ending than the theatrical. It has far more depth and satisfies the film's dire need for moral. Ariel has essentially no identity or growth because she's never held responsible or has to reconcile for her actions leaving her very flat as a character, a problem that was created by this change. Here, she actively faces Ursula and fights to undo the damage she's caused and offers her father a more heartfelt and astute apology than the more forced one in the theatrical that she cries in distress as she's being restrained by the eels. As a result of the restoration of Ariel's voice being prolonged until Ursula's death rather than the pulling of the plug on her Vanessa scam, Eric is more genuine as in this case, he fought for someone he cared for as a person, someone real not just a beautiful voice that for all intents and purposes was just a fantasy. My favorite part is Tritan saying, "That human saved my life". That's a far better revelation than "She really does love him, doesn't she Sebastian?" It not only adds character growth by evolving his belief system rather than being merely conceding but has him acknowledging his mistakes as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these drawings were Glen Keane's. Theres a couple of frames on Ursula, especially her expressions, that SCREAM Ratigan to me.
interesting how a couple of ursula's voice clips were used for the final cut in a different part of the movie; the laugh at 0:33 seems to have been pasted onto the end of poor unfortunate souls when ariel gets turned into a human underwater, while the scream at 3:38 and the oh's after it were pitched down with reverb for when she gets stabbed with a bowsprit instead. it's cool to see how they took some things and edited or rearranged them for the final cut.
People only seem to like this ending because Ariel apologizes. In case you guys forgot, Ariel apologized in the real ending too, I know it didn't last long but I think it's enough proof she learned something.
*”In case you guys forgot, Ariel apologized in the real ending too, I know it didn’t last long but I think it’s enough proof she learned something.”* Just saying you’re sorry is not enough. You have to actually MEAN it. Ariel only apologized because she got CAUGHT, not because she actually did something wrong and feels bad about it! Ursula shows the contract that Ariel signed to King Triton, and then it cuts to Ariel *frantically* saying “Daddy, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know...”. Figuratively speaking, Ariel got caught with her pants down! 😂 *”It’s not what it looks like, Daddy!”* 😂 😂
I think people have to remember that Ariels mom, Tritons queen, was killed by humans. This is why he is so protective of his daughters and want them to stay away from the humans. But in this scene for the first time Triton sees that humans can do good, and that all humans aren’t bad in the same way that all sea folk aren’t good (ursula). Eric sees Ariels true form abd isn’t appalled but instead still loves her enough to risk his life for her and defeat Ursula. It’s such a powerful scene, really wish they kept all of it
this ending and the actual ending are so good. I wish the final cut had more ariel on ursula action, not getting knocked out tho. love jodi’s vocals and you can tell she gave it everything because it was important for ariels character to be able to do that after getting her voice back and it being the last vocal performance of hers for the film. I liked ursula drowning eric and sebastian handing him the trident but the trident thing doesn’t make sense because obviously that’s all she wanted so she’d be clinging to it as soon as she could. I love her getting huge and the ship scene though with all the ships around ariel. i hope the live action is an amalgamation of the two. I also wish triton would’ve gone with the “human saved my life” line instead of the “she really does love him” because that kinda helps minimize ariels entire dilemma.
Ive always wanted Ariel to sing that part coming out of the water in the original..I never knew they actually thought of that! This makes me happy! 😊😁👌🏽🐠🐚🌊
This scene had so much more emotion in it than the one we got. You can see how much more in Love Eric and Ariel are. You can see that Ariel regrets her actions and acknowledged she was wrong. As well as how strong and brave she is for trying to take on Ursula.
I really wish they did this version. My life after watching this deleted scene will never be the same again. In a way I can understand because this happens to be more intense and Ursula trying to drown Eric, he stabs her with the trident. The boat scene was pretty epic but I think this one is better. A lot of people are saying that they're happy that Ariel is apologizing and taking responsibility, but King Triton doesn't apologize and doesn't take responsibility on his end. I've noticed while watching a lot of The Little Mermaid movies and series that Triton doesn't tell Ariel that he loves her to face or with newest one he apologized once. He express so much with actions that doesn't fit in his words the way he would want them. He is typical male that is shy with words than with showing his affections or emotional feeling. He showed remorse for his face when he destroyed her grotto with absolutely regret, he's desperate days of hoping that Ariel will come back home safe, but here is where his apologize comes in. Even though he has six other daughters and his kingdom. A man who isn't sorry from the depth of his heart wouldn't have given up his everything including his own soul to Ursula just to save her for damned fate. That to me was his apologize. And Ariel so young, desperate, and naive thought the only way she's really hurting her father and hers sisters that worse is that they will never see her again. She didn't see the consequence of her loved ones and the world being in physical danger. She meant the consequences to be hers alone. Her apologies so sincerely and her father so happy to reunited with her nothing else matters and they both reconciled in the most beautiful way. I wish that show this dymanic of Triton and Ariel with such depth in a simple scene.
I love the smooth detail that all of Ursula and her eel's faces resemble a lot of Ratigan's facial expressions. Makes sense considering Ron Clements and John Musker made The Great Mouse Detective prior to Little Mermaid.
I literally teared up when Sebastian helped Eric with the trident. Sebastian was so against Ariel having anything to do with the human world, so for him to help Eric in his moment of weakness shows such a profound level of strength that would have added a heartfelt emotional effect to his character. I love the way the movie is, but this ending would have been superior.
I really love both versions, but I think this is my favourite. Triton finally realizes not all humans are bad and Ariel apologise..lovely♡ 0:54 lol she looks like Rattigan here!
@@Sprinkling_waters Honestly, I wouldn’t hate the movie as much if that were the case. 4:29 Look here, this scene is unfinished, but Ariel shows much more regret for her actions here than in the final product. I know they wanted the climax to be like Die Hard, but was it too much to ask to add this scene in?
Really troubling how Ursula is performing her evil laughter from 03:29 to 03:36 while trying to strangle Prince Eric while he is underwater. Then again, the following part has Prince Eric defeating Ursula by hurling the trident at her like a harpoon.
This makes Ariel and Eric like a team fighting Ursula where they both do something not just highlighting one side as "strong"... and Ariel apologizing, taling accountability is also amazing... I think that would've finished their character arcs in a better way... but yeahh it's greatt
In the final version Ariel saves Eric from Flotsam and Jetsam too, when Ursula is about to kill him with the trident, and Ariel also apologized to her father when Triton demands Ursula to release her
You can’t deny the power of part of your world. It’s such a yearning for everyone, even if you think it’s not for you. That song transcends time and no matter where you are in life, you always want to be part of the this or that world or someones or some world in one way or another.
I recently decided to watch videos about the making of the Renaissance Era Disney movies and I stumbled upon this deleted scene. I am not sure whether I prefer more this ending rather than the official one, but I wish they could have combined them somehow! This ending also contains many nice elements. I love how Ariel keeps fighting Ursula to protect Eric. Then the battle sequence between Eric and Ursula is so dramatic. Eric is (almost) on his own and the music makes it look like a living nightmare for Eric. Then I love that little moment between king Triton and Ariel and the moment Sebastian nods to him, feeling the decision Triton is about to make 🥺 I could hardly hold my tears when I saw Ariel running to Eric and singing the reprise of Part of Your World, while Eric looked at her surprised, since he realised that the girl he saved is finally the one he was searching all along. And I surely think nothing beats the emotional chorus during the end of the original movie, but man... That music piece during the last seconds... It's so bittersweet... It's slow in the beginning, then its pace gets faster... Like this had eventually a happy ending, but king Triton had to say goodbye to his daughter and you have to say goodbye to this wonderful movie, since it came to its end... I'm not sure though whether or not this ending could make it to the final cut, since : • The seashell that contained Ariel's voice and with the help of which Ursula enchanted Eric, wasn't broken until Ursula died, as we see in this version. So how could Eric participate in the battle? • As it's been established also by the 2nd movie, only king Triton and his descendants or relatives (like Ursula and Morgana) can move the trident. So I guess it's impossible for Sebastian or Eric to handle it. Thanks so much for uploading!! ❤ This movie means so much for me, even now that I'm 29 y.o.
When Eric threw the trident through Ursula's body in this ending, it was reused in Kingdom Hearts II when Eric did the same thing at the end of "Ursula's Revenge". Also beginning 5:15 onwards, anyone can get tears from listening it, including me.
This ending explained why is so important that Eric defeated the witch, because Triton finally understand that not all humans are bad, I do like more the fight scene, and the singing of Ariel at the beach, she actually didn't get her voice back in this version, till the witch was gone.
I wish they would have kept most of this scene in the movie! Maybe not the part where Ursula "kills" Ariel and tries to drown and strangle Eric. But they could have kept some of the fight scenes and the part where Ariel apologizes and she and Triton are hugging each other. The part where Triton changes Ariel into a human with a pretty dress and she starts singing to Eric was also sweet (and it made me tear up a little, I'm not going to lie). I did not know there was an alternate ending until today and I am so happy to have seen this!
I like how Eric grab the trident toss it on Ursula chest. He would’ve looked like a better hero if people would understand that more often. because to me, he looks like the real protagonist since he was first seen in the beginning. well, Ariel is nothing but a damsel in distress who does nothing but sing all day just to get credit.
Wow I like this ending because it's sweet, and it gives Triton an epiphany, you know when he says, "This human saved my life", it shows that he sees Ariel's point, that not all humans are bad.
Very true, that always bothered me in the original how he changes heart so quickly just because 'She really does love him'
I feel it would have been so much stronger if Eric had also been transformed into a Merman.
It could have given some good scenes between Triton and Eric, maybe even a kind of father to son moments where Triton could show his love for Eric, like the son he never received and perfect acceptance of him as a member of his family. Sigh.... I wish there had been some scene where Triton and Eric could have such a love scene :(
That sounds weird when there is a comic of Triton and Eric...
yeah I really wish they kept that dialogue instead of what we got here, I mean at least Triton learns something here
I prefer the final version's dialogue because it focuses more on his relationship to his daughter which is more important than what he thinks of Eric.
I don't think it was Jodi
@@iAmMadeOfSoup It sounds just like her though. 💁♂️

Sebastian retrieving the trident is perfect: he sings "Under the Sea" to keep Ariel home, sings "Kiss the Girl" to help save her from being owned by Ursula, and here, saves the day! Underrated hero
also the part when Eric's being drowned and reaching for the trident and Sebastian's trying to raise it is super intense

The ending chosen was way better. She does tell her Father she is sorry when he comes to confront Ursula.

Doesn't she Sebastian?"
Sebastian replies.
+Marguerite21 they should of use this 1
+Marguerite21 I think the only dialogue that should have been kept was Ariel's apology to Triton. All this happened in the first place because of her. Not that I'm not saying that Ursula did not manipulate her, but a simple "I'm so sorry" would have been plenty without the extra dialogue in the transformation scene.
true
But Ariel did apologize in the finished film.
That version actually makes Ariel more likeable character. Also I would love to see how Eric tried to save unconscious Ariel diving after her like she had done before.
Wow this version was better. I like how Ariel apologies to her father, and then her father realizes that humans aren't that bad since Eric saved him.
@@fcv4616 True that.
Howard Ashman was a great voice actor as he was a lyricist. He truly created a masterpiece. God rest his soul.

Casper Richter If Eric turned into a merman, who would be running the kingdom then? 😂
It’s not like Eric had other siblings.
At least Triton has six other daughters who are in line for the throne. If Ariel leaves her world for Eric’s, it’s not much of a loss for Atlantica.
There are a lot of little details I wish were kept for the final version of the film:
* Triton having his own character arc created by acknowledging that a human, Eric, saved him and his daughter.
Okay that 4th point. I guess Disney was saving it for Kingdom Hearts games.

Those are reasons I hope to see this ending in the upcoming remake.
Oh, my God, I teared up when Ariel was singing to Eric. I love it. That, and Ariel's moment with Triton should've been included.
Diamond Rose mee too ilove classic disney excited live action the little mermaid after beauty and the beast
They needed that moment.
Here's my take on the ending:
Ultimately I think the ending in the finished film works perfectly fine.

Lemon Melon Agreed. Ursula’s brutality is why I like Eric in this version.
You can really feel how much pain Eric is in, holding his lungs for a LONG time underwater, *all in the name of love and risking his life for Ariel.*
Yeah, his girlfriend is a fish. 😂
BUT the fact that Eric still went after Ariel and risked drowning and strangulation by Ursula’s tentacles for her is TRUE LOVE if I ever saw it.
Jesus shouldn’t be an exclamation
The part with Ariel singing is spectacular. Totally adds more to the scene
Definitely

That's at least half a year later, looking at how much new hair he has. They went on dates AFTER she could talk. And stayed together.

I don't understand how he was able to play the right notes to match the scene
(I haven't read anything about her washing blood from her feet and her actually talking to her sisters, though.)
Anyway, as it goes... she left the night of a great festivity, went straight to the sea witch, made the deal and abandoned the family that adores her as well as her own kind. She leaves them completely in the dark when she disappears and it is only by fortune her sisters actually know of the prince's palace and eventually think to search for her there. (I never read anything about her washing blood from her feet or of her "talking" with them.)
After that she sees what her decisions have led to. They had been worriedly searching for her all that time, are sick with grief and mourn over her, but she shows no remorse. She just smiles at them in hopes that they know she is happy. Really... I just feel sorry for her family more than I do for her.
I like this ending because Ariel is a lot more active in the climax and she has that moment to talk with her father afterwards,
but I liked that the ending that they DID go with put emphasis on Triton coming to respect Ariel's choices and also accepting Eric.
I hope it's like this for the new live action!
@@whois_arielleunfortunately it didn't
I honestly love this ending a bit more than the official.
I love this ending more and the piano soon beautiful.
I too love this ending more.
Nobody, and I mean nobody is a better Ursula than Pat Carroll. RIP.
I love the ending they have in the movie, with the giant Ursula, I think it's one of the best final battles in any Disney movie, along with Sleeping Beauty. And that brief reprise of Part of your world sung by Ariel is absolutely beautiful.
Agreed, my favorite Disney ending. This would have been pretty great too though.
I do agree with most that this ending contained better character development for each character
But I feel obviously the dialogue was better in the original one and the fight scene was more simplistic but I think overall the substance of this one helps the characters development better than the original .
I agree with the wedding scene.
God damnit Disney ! why didn't you choose this one
I think it's because Eisner said, "Make it like Die Hard!"
No, Katzenberg.
ZNKChannel I stand corrected. :)
I know. This one would have been way better.
@@PeachWookiee Eisner? Who's that?
The gag that Louis lifts his knife but just cuts a slice of cake instead of attacking Sebastian is quite funny!
In this version, he doesn't want vengeance on his crab nemesis.
Including that extra emotional beat, the moment between father and daughter apologizing and reconciling, really made their relationship and motivations so much stronger. Shame it was cut!
I love love this ending so much because Tritan acknowledges Eric saved him and Ariels apology is much better.
I'm not gonna lie, I like this ending better than the final product.
Yep!
My lungs hurt during the scenes where Eric nearly drowns and is grasping for air!
i'm sorry, but eric's expressions prevented me from experiencing this scene seriously. you've got an amazing piano piece, ariel fighting for once, and all of a sudden a wonderful show of eric's "oh shit" face and i was gone. XD
Huh?
@@Sprinkling_waters Don't worry, I absolutely love it, but his expressions look like he's about to start panic swearing and it's just so different from the grim determination of the finished product and it made me cackle :)
@@katarinaaguilar1936 ohhhh I see!!
Yeah it looks cartoonier, but I suppose it's used to have a general idea of his expression since it's a draft... And yeah they really should've stuck to this ending.
5:52 Ariel's sisters with actually long hair look so much better than the final version.
I agree
Dude.
I actually love Alan Menken's piano score here.
Agh the part she starts singing made me tear up a but 😓😩
People only seem to like this ending because Ariel apologizes. In case you guys forgot, Ariel apologized in the real ending too, I know it didn't last long but I think it's enough proof she learned something.
*”In case you guys forgot, Ariel apologized in the real ending too, I know it didn’t last long but I think it’s enough proof she learned something.”*
Just saying you’re sorry is not enough.
*”It’s not what it looks like, Daddy!”* 😂 😂
Beethoven’s Fidelio If you wanna interpret it that way, then fine. But that doesn’t mean you get to mock me.
@@ashleys8730 I didn't mock you. #strawmanfallacy
Beethoven’s Fidelio You did mimic everything I’ve said though.
@jf k what lesson did she learn?
I like this ending than the original
Me too.
Why does everyone call theatrical endings the ORIGINAL?
@@TheKevinKruger Because it’s the ending that was shown with the film when first released in theaters. 🙄
Ursula's facial expressions are very reminiscent of Rattigan in Great Mouse Detective
Glen Keane, who animated Ariel, previously animated Ratigan.
Triton finally realizes not all humans are bad and Ariel apologise..lovely♡
0:54 lol she looks like Rattigan here!
Does the piano score at the end make anyone else wanna cry or is it just me?
And when I say “the end”, I mean from where it transitions to Eric on the beach to the actual end of the video
Yes I’m cryin
I would of kept the the original as but just add the second reprise of part of your world
I agree
Ariel apologizing should've also been kept though!!
That was so sweet, even made me tear up at times!
Lara it’s the singing that makes u cry
This ending was much more heartfelt and Disney like.
As no one talked about that I like Louis(the chef) part at the end there. As a kid I always feel bad for him at the original ending.
Oh the piano work 😍😭
Really troubling how Ursula is performing her evil laughter from 03:29 to 03:36 while trying to strangle Prince Eric while he is underwater.
In the final version Ariel saves Eric from Flotsam and Jetsam too, when Ursula is about to kill him with the trident, and Ariel also apologized to her father when Triton demands Ursula to release her
Ariel's voice is beautiful 5:22
5:21 i liked that better then the original.
same😍😧
Oh yeah!!! 😍😍😍
Same it's good
Me too. They should have used this one in the movie.
I'm not sure though whether or not this ending could make it to the final cut, since :
• The seashell that contained Ariel's voice and with the help of which Ursula enchanted Eric, wasn't broken until Ursula died, as we see in this version.
I hope the live action film brings this ending to life. That would be amazing
It most likely won’t actually. 😬😞
When Eric threw the trident through Ursula's body in this ending, it was reused in Kingdom Hearts II when Eric did the same thing at the end of "Ursula's Revenge". Also beginning 5:15 onwards, anyone can get tears from listening it, including me.
Her voice give me chills and goosebumbs all over
This ending explained why is so important that Eric defeated the witch, because Triton finally understand that not all humans are bad, I do like more the fight scene, and the singing of Ariel at the beach, she actually didn't get her voice back in this version, till the witch was gone.
I did not know there was an alternate ending until today and I am so happy to have seen this!
tbh I love this MUCH more than the official ending
I like how Eric grab the trident toss it on Ursula chest. He would’ve looked like a better hero if people would understand that more often. because to me, he looks like the real protagonist since he was first seen in the beginning. well, Ariel is nothing but a damsel in distress who does nothing but sing all day just to get credit.
Howard Ashman was an absolutely brilliant man! He was taken from us all far too soon by aids. :( RIP I won't forget you.
