I absolutely love Shens character. When he says “Your parents didn’t love you” to Po, he’s telling him exactly what he believes about himself. He literally says earlier “My parents… hated me.” Such a tragic but unforgivable villain
The way he goes out was sad as well, not accepting his defeat at the hands of a Panda, he chose to submit his life by his own doing. His version of Seppuku or Harakiri.

Even him choosing to let the Soothsayer leave played on this. Because he let her go she was there when Shen shot Po with the fireworks and was able to save him from dying in the river. Truly a beautifully written movie
I loved that they made Shen a weapons master instead of full on hand to hand combatant it made him way more technical the tai lung which I don’t know if anyone told y’all but each villain represents an aspect of one’s self body,mind and spirit. Can’t wait for y’all to see the last villain.

EDIT: Also Master Rhino was still pretty reasonable about it, he stayed back far away defensively, not sure what to expect so he didn't rush Shen or tried to do something stupid. He waited and observed, ready to use his signature Horn defense technique just in case so really I don't think he made a mistake there. Sometimes you can make no mistake and still fail.
One of the best "show don't tell" openings to a movie I've ever seen Comparing the Five and especially Tigress mocking his eating and how fat he is in the first movie to here, seeing him stuff his face with bean buns and not only letting him but cheering him on And as you noted, all their combo attacks

technically Shen might be considered a warrior of black and white since he's a white peacock, he trained in marital arts, dagger and weapon combat, he bested two masters. This could be further implied as the travel/get ready montage was playing, it went to black and grey, and showed po/shen on opposite sides, then reverse/swap places to the ying yang symbol. Shows they are similar but also different. And he led himself to his own demise bc he wouldn't stop, po just avoided/dodged. He himself was his own undoing, he could've stopped he chose to keep going.

I'm Chinese,I like this movie a lot,and I love Shen for sure,he's a amazing villain,and actually in my opinion,in the end, he did not accept his own fate but rebelled against it--“It was me who killed myself, not some black and white warrior.Such a cool character.
Absolutely love this movie, definitely one of if not my favorite animated movies. That scene where Po is remembering his past always gets me emotional. They did such a good job with this movie 👏🥲
One thing I also like about the black and white dichomety between Po and Shen IsPo is able to overcome his truama and pain by accepting it and mkving on He refuses to allow himself to be defined by his trauna/horrible past Whereas Shen cannot let go of his truama or his pain, he can't move on, or get over it and it causes him to self destruct himself at the end there where he cuts the ropes to the cannon that crushes him.

Shen wanted to control his fate so much that he let that cannon kill him just to prove that the "warrior of black and white" didn't beat him. He wanted to go out in his own terms
When it comes to dreamworks trilogies the first one is always figuring yourself out, the second one is coming into you own after suffering a great loss, and the third is the height of the mc’s maturity. 3-act storytelling never fails when done right.

People forget how good Shen's fighting style is cause his more like an army general but he took on 3 masters and whoop 2 of them. The way he use his tail to distract Master Croc followed by a kick while swordfighting Master Ox is amazing. His not as devastating as Tai Lung, nor as durable as Po but Shen is a master on his own
There are so many great actors in the kung fu panda movies it is ridiculous you literally have gary Oldman as shin in this film and all the villians in the kung fu panda movies are just to good with amazing actors

For once I actually agree with this dude Rob (prob for different reasons) but Kung Fu Panda movies are not only one of the best 3d animated films (or honestly animated films from Disney, dreamworks, or pixar) but one of the best animated trilogies along side How to Train Your Dragon. Also, Kung Fu Panda 2 is better than any of the 3 shrek movies straight up, in fact it's the best of the KFP trilogy tbh, only one I think matching it is How to Train Your Dragon 2 maybe but it's tuff. One last thing there is a different past being explored in each movie, KFP1 = Shifu's past (believing in himself), KFP2 = PO's past (coming to peace with himself), KFP3 = ? (what about himself?) you will see when you watch it
Theses DreamWorks movies actually have deeper meanings if you actually pay attention and there are usually more than one hidden messages that as kids you would just enjoy them and as older people you actually understand the message its trying to tell you and you can watch these as an adult and not feel like its a movie for kids.
