  • !!!!!!!Confession time! The measurements for marking are incorrect. I had flipped my cutting mat and incorrectly used that to measure the marks on the square. They need to be 2.5" across from the top corner and down, and 1" across and up in the bottom corner! Thanks to a comment from angie g I went back and looked over the video and it jumped out at me. Apologies to anyone that's already attempted this!!!!!!!!

    What You’ll Need
    • 6 inch squares of fabric (12 from one fabric and 12 from another, total 24 squares)
    • Fuse a web - 12 5.5″ Squares
    • Buttons
    • Scissors
    • Sewing Machine
    • Thread
    • Iron
    • Fabric marker or chalk
    You’ll need a total of 24 squares of fabric measuring 6 inches, 12 from one fabric and 12 from a plain fabric. You’ll also need 12 squares of fuse-a-web. These need to be cut at 5.5” so they’re smaller than the squares of fabric. Go ahead and cut out 12 squares from each fabric, as mentioned before, these are 6 inch by 6 inch. Cut 12 pieces of fuse-a-web 5.5 x 5.5". Take a piece of fuse-a-web and iron it on the back of your plain fabric with the paper side up. Repeat until all 12 pieces have fuse-a-web attached. Let the fabric and fuse-a-web completely cool, then strip off the paper.Pair up a main fabric with a plain fabric and place them right sides together. Sew around this using a 1/4" seam allowance. Starting 2 inches in, sew, backstitch, then sew around the square. When you get to the corner, stop with your needle in down position, lift the presser foot and pivot fabric. Sew around until you’re 2" in on the opposite side of that starting edge, then backstitch to reinforce those last few stitches.Clip excess fabric from the four corners. Turn fabric right side out through the gap. Give it a good run over with the iron, try to stay away from the gap a little.
    To close up the gap, give a little tug on either side of the opening, the fabrics will automatically want to draw inside. Top stitch around the entire square close to the edge. This closes up the gap and leaves you with a nice finish around the squares. Using the heat erasable pen, mark the from the top right corner down 4 inches, then mark from the same point over 4 inches. Move to the bottom left corner and mark in the same way, this time at 1.5 inches, both across, and then up.
    Using the marks as a guide, mark a line from one point to the other.
    These are stitch lines, don’t panic about the lines themselves, once they’re stitched, just run the iron over it to remove them.
    Place two together, the poinsettia fabric on square one should be facing the poinsettia fabric on square two.
    Sew down your marked line, remember to backstitch at the beginning and end.
    Open up those two squares so that the fabric from square one is out of the way and place a third square against your second…
    Sew down your marked line again and repeat this until you’ve used up all of your squares.
    The final line of stitching will join your first square to your last square and form a circle.
    Now for some hand stitching, which I’m really not a fan of! Fold over two adjoining flaps and stitch a button through both layers of fabric. Do this all the way around.

    Lovely item. What do you mean by fuser web? Is this a fusible interfacing? I'd really like to try this.

    • @supercrafts
      @supercrafts  8 месяцев назад

      It's like interfacing to look at. It's a thin layer of webbing that's fusible both sides. If you're in the US I believe heat n bond is what you'd call it. There should be a link in description for it x

    Hi. If you started with 6” x 6” squares your finished square is 5.5”. When you “measure” the line for stitching them together you don’t actually mark at 4” from the top right, just 8 small squares on your cutting mat. These can’t be 1/2” squares as there are 14 of them on each side instead of 11. If we actually measure 4” on a ruler this ends up far too close to the bottom corner. It should be more like 3” as it’s just over half the length of the side. Might be worth putting a note on screen correcting this, the shorter marks don’t have quite as much influence but do need altering too.
    It’s a shame as it’s a great video otherwise. I’m going to make a few of these, once I’ve corrected the maths! Thank you.

    If you are using directional fabric, cut it on the bias and it will be oriented correctly when you sew the squares together. Ask me how I know. If you want to use 3 fabrics, cut a square an inch smaller. Sew the first 2 squares all around, cut an x in the center of the top fabric and turn right side out, then press. Attach the smaller square with heat n bond and sew the squares together. I wish this tutorial was around last year, it would have saved me so much frustration.

    • @supercrafts
      @supercrafts  Год назад

      Have you made one with three fabrics? I can't figure out from your description where the third would sit in the finished mat? If you've made it I'd love to see... Not sure I can direct message in RUclips to send you an email address?

    • @nancy9478
      @nancy9478 Год назад

      I got the idea from the stitch and fold kits. I cut my squares like you do, but I sew all the way around. Cut a + in the center of the top piece only, just an inch, enough to turn it right side out. Press. Heat n bond a 3rd fabric (use lite) and cut a square 5 inches, make sure to pay attention if it is directional to cut on the bias, you will see that it needs to go top to bottom on the diagonal when you sew them together. Remove the paper, and place on top of the side with the cut, centering it, and iron it in place. The squares can then be sewn together as you do it here. There is a tutorial for the kit on youtube, but I wont mention the channel out of respect for your channel. Your tutorial is so understandable, I hope you can make the three color one and do a tutorial. BTW squares can be made any size. Let me know if I can help further.

      Na verdade, você não precisa de um padrão. Cada quadrado tem 6 polegadas x 6 polegadas (12 de um tecido e 12 de outro, totalizando 24 quadrados) e o Fuse-a-web tem 5,5 polegadas.
