What I really wanted to say is safe travels + joy~filled life adventures! Blessings for this New Year and thanks so much for inspiring me with some beautiful locations to check into for my family trips. Peace and Joy to you and yours!💓
I took the 395 trip in 2016, with a side track to Death Valley and it was fantastic I've taken many, many very long road trips in the western United States and this one is in the top three. Number one, by far, is the five National Parks in Southern Utah.
Kudos to your RUclips Channel, Russ! Thanks for taking us along on your travels. I really like the drone footage. I wish you safe travels and I wish you all the best. I hope that you're doing well while you're in Quartszite AZ. Talk soon, Alan.
Love the Owens Valley. I think you missed a trick when in Lone Pine, you should have turned into the Alabama Hills. Lots of dispersed camping there, and the best views of the Sierras. Great trip.
Idk why but whenever I'm in the sierra nevada mountains, one song always pops into my head, which is the battle of evermore by Led Zeppelin. It's just always seemed to fit with the scenery. The mandolins just sound so great. When the levee breaks, also by Led Zepplin, is another song that pops into my head traveling through the desert. Got that perfect desert vibe to it.
Thanks Russ for pulling together this travel across California and Nevada mountains, lakes, and small towns. I remember some of these from last summer, however, it was good to visit them again. Sixty three saloons, man the sheriff probably was worn out in a week. Scenic views were awe inspiring for me. Too bad the train museum was closed. All in all the video was quite astonishing.
Oh, man, it triggered me! Moved to Florida after 25 years in Washoe Valley (between Reno and Carson city). Took 395 at least twice a year to go to LA. The longer we stay on east coast the more i realize how much i love the west. That time I was in a passenger seat and know every curve, every part of this road. The part of the road after Bishop when you entering National Forrest and start seeing majestic pines still takes my breath away. The silence of Mono Lake is out of this world. Good times! This trip is almost like going back in time. Thank you so much! Also I greatly appreciate a simple road sound, quiet, or gentle music. It was not easy to find traveling videos without obnoxious endless music.
I used to live in Reno so I too favor the east side of the Sierras or as I call it the proper side. I like your comment about how the casinos are HAPPY to hold your coins for you - forever. ,😂 During my time as an OTR driver I got so I hated driving up and down Central Valley. So I tended a favor US 395 as my north-south route.
Hey Russ, happy Sunday! I've driven 395 many times, it's nice to be in the shotgun seat for this trip. Lots of great memories here of camping and hiking in the Sierra. If you're ever in the area again I recommend the Eastern California Museum in Independence and the Laws Railroad Museum in Bishop. Until next time, happy trails 🙂
Hey Russ, 395 has been my favorite travel route to and from Quartzsite every year. Lone Pine is one of my favorite stops along the way. 2 weeks in the Tuttle Creek campground at the base of the Sierra's when heading south in Nov. and 2 weeks in the spring when heading back north in April. Oops, I just gave up one of my best places to camp. "Check it out!". Happy Trails
Years ago I stayed at a Motel in Lone Pine where many of the western Stars stayed when filming 🎥. Each room had a plack above the room's door with the actors name on it. Too cool for school.!!
Im loving it, Russ. It couldn't come at a better time. I'm in Michigan, and we're under a polar vortex temps with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens.
As a kid growing up we used to stay at Stateline Lake Tahoe ( on the California side) most every summer and eat dinner at the Sahara Buffet. I also made dozens of trips as a younger adult skiing at Heavenly Valley, Sierra at Tahoe etc. Lovely memories, a wonderful road trip Russ!
HWY 395 from Hesperia to Tahoe is my most favorite drive when I lived in CA!!! My soul misses that drive. One time I just drove it there and back in one day just to get away. Thank you for this nostalgic road trip!!!

Oh yeah, my father and his parents were in prison camps during WWII for being Japanese. He was brought to Arkansas though. They lost their house and land during those days.

It was not about fossils, its about an ancient waterfall.
Mono lake is where High plains drifter was filmed
They say the earthquake in Lone Pine in 1872 was a 7.4m. WOW!!!
Like seeing the map -- helps me orient my brain to where you are approximately.

I would rather live in Bodie
Those buildings would last a lot longer if they would repair the roofs.
Those buildings will stand a lot longer if they would put new roofs on them.
Those look like the eastern sierras❤

Ohh Russ you sound sick?
Your voice sounds different. Are you under the weather?
Sounds Younger
Hey Russ why don't you go to the International Monster Truck Museum and Hall of Fame in Butler, Indiana?
Oh yeah, my father and his parents were in prison camps during WWII for being Japanese. He was brought to Arkansas though. They lost their house and land during those days.
Really sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how awful that must've been for them. The camps never should've been created in the first place.
How come you don't get reparations like they passin in cali?!
@johnpurdy3336 Japanese also shouldn't have tried to occupy hawaii. Different times sir. We are not bad Americans today.
@@GoodLivingHomestead That's debatable lmao
I love your videos! But I find it is too long! Maybe you should think about making shorter videos. I would see more of them. Thanks, just my opinion!!
Actually Sam was 104
There aren't any fish in Mono Lake, to salty and alkaline.
I bet our homeless people and hiomeless vets would love a place like those internment camps to stay they don't get those priveleges
