  • It's that time of year when the pumpkins get planted in preparation for the fall season. But this year, I'm trying something different by using a biodegradable cover to suppress the weeds. We'll see how it goes, and I'm excited to take you along for the ride. Here's how I prepped the space!

From my farm to your home. 🏡
My name is Kaleb Wyse and here, you will find delicious recipes, videos from my farm, garden, and fun home projects. My knowledge has been earned from years of home cooks and farmers in my family. wyseguide.com
A farm is much more than a house to live in; it’s a lifestyle. My passion for gardening and landscaping came from outdoor work with my mom in our expansive farm yard, my love for baking came from innumerable short walks to my grandma’s house to make cookies, and as a farmer, my dad taught me that we are the stewards of our land.
So whether you live in a city center or have decided rural life is for you, I hope to inspire you with the projects and recipes I use in daily life. We can’t all live on a farm, but we all need farms in our lives. From the dirt in my vegetable garden to the flour in my kitchen, I’ll show you everything I love to do.

Oh can’t wait to see how your pumpkin patch makes out this year! Not only will the plastic keep the present weeds at bay but will also kill whatever seeds you tilled up. Helping prepare the soil for next season. Great way to prep the area for no till gardening in the future.

My problem isn't with bugs or weeds, but groundhogs! I won't use poisons, so I have one that's lived here for a few years. He eats the leaves off my pumpkins and zucchini plants. I don't know how he can do it with the zukes because those things are picky! So I try to throw him things like carrots, cabbage leaves and broccoli leaves to keep him distracted. He's already climbed a 5 foot chicken wire fence to get to my pumpkin patch. I'd be mad if he wasn't so darn cute.

I love that you are always trying new methods….i also try to do the same. Moved in with my dad two years ago soil is sandy in his allotment. Raised beds are the answer this fall I’ll put in new raised beds and in the bottom I’ll put fall leaves to decompose over winter then soil. Love your video’s thank you for sharing!!!

Kaleb- you've widened your knowledge on plants & soils tremendously on your farm...... while tilling makes the soil nice and loamy for planting, tilling tears apart the soil structure aggregates that ,microbes and organisms took a year to build with there "glue".....Maybe next year- you could try no- tilling --even if only on 1/2 the pumpkin area...... healthy plants are a reflection of a healthy soil. the USDA-NRCS off there has a ton of into on soil health..... Hugs from IOWA.

Is it possible to go over what products you use and how you use them? Like how do you apply it to the plant? I grow pumpkins but battle squash bugs. I don't use insecticide s, but not against using something safer to keep those bugs gone. But what is safer to use and why is it safer? Thank you for any help you can give. Love your videos and your sunny straight up disposition. Very refreshing. 😊🧡

I planted a pumpkin patch this year too. We have squash vine borer bad in mn! And i have spent a decade battling them. This yeah i put insect row covers on them. Im going to let them get very large and then remove the insect row cover.
The other way i have had success battling them besides i injecting with bt was burying the stems. Keep the stems buried and you will beat out the vine borer! I just can this year because i used agfabric because its a new spot thats very very weedy and on a hill so i wanted to protect the soil from erosion too.

I "accidently" grew a pumpkin in a pot and I was amazed at how well it did! The plant literally took over my small backyard. There were many flowers but I noticed only a few of them emerged as pumpkins and those were the ones that had a little "ball" on the end. I ended up with two giant sized pumpkins and it was such a great joy to see them grow. But is it too late to plant them now? I live in Northern California!

I love pumpkins! Which variety do you use for making pies? Do you pick them early to finish the harvest without pests or is the ripening process needed on the vine? I trust your experience and taste better than the standard choices.

Kaleb - I'm a new subscriber and I'm so glad I found you! Can I respectfully suggest a video on strawberries? I searched through your videos and found recipes and shorts but I would love to hear about how you grow them, varieties you grow, and most importantly, how you combat insects and the insects you battle with them.

Question: Will the rainfall get absorbed in the ground with this product…seems to be great idea for weed suppression, but how does each plant receive enough water with just the small tear for planting the seeds in….Kaleb love all your videos! You are my inspiration to my small Kentucky gardens❤️

Kaleb, pumpkins grow roots all along the long vines to get water and nutrients; the plastic impede that access or will the roots be able to break the barrier? 🎃🎃🎃
