I used to be a cocktail waitress here! I saw some “this looks like the shining” comments, a lot of guests felt the same way. It also would remind people of the movie Dirty Dancing. So wild to see the state of it now, my friends and I have wanted to go inside for years.
Sorry I’m adding as I watch. The bar you liked with the stained glass cabinets was an Off Track Betting bar. The resort had several dining rooms actually. The one you were in with a tent was a banquet hall, the bar was Monk’s Lounge (the very dark bar with two vintage cash registers), and there was a dining room right off the Monk’s Lounge that you walked through to get up towards the banquet hall (the large dining room with the tent). The owners who bought it after it closed put all that in there for a friend cause they were going to distribute it at Walmart but I guess the outside packaging with a weed leaf turned them off to it
That beverage was never used when we operated the property as Friar Tuck. I believe a Chinese company purchased it and operated it for a few months for private functions. It was NOT open to the public during that period.
Me and my family stopped here around 1980 when I was a kid. It was the most extravagant hotel around. We were looking for someplace to stay the night and convinced our father to and least see how much it cost to stay here. I remember me and my father went to the lobby desk and they told us it cost $250 a night (something like that, might have been more). It was summer time. Of course my father was not going to spend $250, he actually started laughing. We stayed at a motel further down the road for $30 a night.
Now I agree that $250 may be high for the Catskills depending on the time of the year it is. But part of that $250 may also have covered what is known as a resort fee. What resorts like Disney or Universal does is charges you a fee that allows you to have access to the food and beverages on there resorts or use the things like the spas without having to pay an additional fee. What that means is that all the charges for the food and spa and other entertainment on the hotel grounds is paid for by you on your bill and that you do not have to pay for them individually and possibly be charged different fees for each thing. You are charges 1 fee for all services and pay for them on your one room bill at the end of your stay.
I just want to say that your skills, in ALL areas just keep getting better. Your delivery of commentary is clear and relaxed, your framing and composition on the stills is up there with some of the best. You have attained a much smoother and more comfortable pace, giving the viewer time to see what you see. Your use of light and contrast adds a richness to the watching experience, and your opening sequence has impact right off the bat. I continue to be impressed by your editing ability, as nothing seems choppy or abrupt. You give good history and background where possible, and your respect for these places is evident in the way you handle things and speak of them. I don’t always comment, but I really wanted to tell you that your hard work is paying off, and you have made it into my top three urbex channels. You have come a long way from your beginnings, and I am always happy to see a new upload from you. I will always try to become better in every way, i just started with holding a camera and just hitting record and not know what im doing, to learning and expressing so much emotion and feelings acquired to these buildings. I appreciate the fact that you allow the places to speak for themselves through your empathy with their past. How YOU feel about a property comes through and provides the viewer with an added emotional facet of the experience. I also deeply appreciate the fact that you don’t try to make every place haunted and scary. I know some ARE haunted, or have some intelligence we don’t understand in them, but you don’t try to build an artificially intense feel to them. It was an amazing place ,WE WERE THE LAST ONES TO STAY there before they closed the doors permanently, and we were the only ones there. The Friar Tuck was already closed so we stayed in their Nottingham Village off to the left of the main resort, all the way in the back by the lake. We stayed there through a time share for two weeks, no amenities, just the room which was fine. It was a little creepy at night being the only ones back there but we enjoyed it very much. My husband worked there as a dish washer during the 1970 summers, (he grew up in Palenville), his mother was a waitress and the stories they tell. His cousins used to clean the hotel rooms up to the last days, we had left food, bottle of wine and a huge tip in our room for her when we left, but when she showed up to clean it they told her don't bother, we are shut down for good, no more work however they did let her in to get her goodies. The Friar Tuck has a lot of wonderful stories and memories for the locals around this once awesome facility.

I’m always surprised at the things left behind that could provide furnishings and supplies for someone. The cloth attached to the ceiling is something done in many massage clinics. I was a receptionist for a Thai Massage and they had it. It adds a sense of coziness and “glamour” when done right.
The friar tuck resort was such a unique place, as a local i with many many others worked here and made a great living. the memories i have just filled my head with is amazing. GREAT VIDEO GUYS
In that pool table room you can clearly see how high the water got when it was flooded. If it wasn't for the cold weather that place would smell mouldy AF.
Yeah, this is one where I don't feel bad things were left behind. Nevermind that judging by the pillows this place wasn't exactly on point with hygiene. That smell was probably just years of people grease.
Kind of ironic seeing a pool table sitting in a pool of water :D Judging by the date on those drinks I'd guess they were produced some time after 2010. I wouldn't expect the Best Before date to be more than, say, two or three years in the future, which means they'd have to have been put there in 2013 or later.

It's a bit odd that you found that tent pitched inside with so many rooms in decent condition. Even odder that you didn't encounter any homeless people, even though there's evidence that some of the beds were slept in.

I used to work at the tuck in the early 2000s, my friends lived in the building behind the resort. Had many memories there! It's hard to see how ruined it got over the years.

This place in reminiscent of the resorts of the Catskill Mountains that offered an all inclusive vacation experience, with its heyday from the 1920s through the 1960s. The double room you found is known as adjoining room(s) and are still popular today, in that they allow for two separate parties, families, friends etc traveling together access and privacy as well. Its unbelievable that all the $$$ just sitting there, whatever the reason for closing, why didnt they sell it off, instead of letting it rot.. makes no sense.

Bad idea, the homeless always trash places they live in. Honestly what the homeless need is a prison sentence. I have looked into the feasibility of opening a rehab clinic or rehab center for the homeless but no locality will allow it, plus it is cheaper to put a mentally ill homeless person behind bars and keep them away from women and children.

Rocky Mountain High still owns this place (Why they were using it as a soda warehouse). Though last I checked they are now a penny stock so the building may end up back on the market pretty soon.

I worked here for years till 1983. cocktail lounge across from dining room (the bar with armour on the wall) in the night club, aka scarlet room, I was one of the head waitresses down there, The close up of the bar / soda fountain was very eerie, the outdoor pool side on weekends and the disco 😃. Some really fun times. Owned my the Carridi family. So sad to see this.

Humans are a strange species. All the work. All the expense that went into building and maintaining the place. Then just close the doors on such a cool place and walk away.
The property isn't "abandoned" it is bank owned and still up for sale since the original owner's family filed bankruptcy after his death. Not saying it will sell in this state of repair but you never know, especially for the land. However, the property itself is gorgeous. ❤
It was opened in the 70's! & it was a really popular resort by the mountains, especially during the skiing season. I live about 10 minutes from there. It was gorgeous!!

This was a awesome find! Can't believe all the stuff just left there. There's a lot of money in stuff just sitting there. I also seen files I'm guessing ppls personal information? That's scary to know someone's credit card numbers are possibly just sitting there for anyone to look at
I LOVE this. I did this in my late teens in the late 80's early 90's and loved it. We had still cameras with film, and video cameras where the size of... well, you've seen the photos... 1.5 hr batteries (that took 4 hrs to charge) VHS cassettes recording in SP mode 2hr max, weighed 18 lbs... and a $5,000 price tag for an upper low class household. It wasn't leaving the house unless dad was there.

Legion 57 there was no hurricane. I grew up on the road parallel to this. We had a flood in 2011 due to Irene, but it was long after this place shut down. The mafia owned it. The mafia lost their money after the NYPD got straightened up and POOF. The Friar Tuck shut down. I’d be more interested in how many bodies are hidden on the property than what’s inside the building.

This is the Friar Tuck in the Catskills. I used to work there as a waiter years ago. It's up the road from the Catskill Game farm which is closed, and along the way past the Tuck is the old Carson City, closed as well.
What a fantastic place! Wish I could see it in person too! I sincerely hope someone buys this unique place and restores it! You are in upstate New York and some 25 years ago that place used to be called the Friar Tuck Inn and Resort. I worked for a company that used to run ski tours our of that place it is massive. That large ball room used to have the biggest New Year's party you have ever seen.
It is such a crying shame that properties like these were not repurposed. Homelessness would not only be a thing of the past, but the people would be would also get to live with dignity.

If it's repurposed, then it has to be maintained. That will be a cost in huge numbers to the town/city. It's a great idea, but costs tons of money to actually do.
I used to go there with friends on Father’s Day weekend they would always have an awesome car show. The place was Mafia ran and owned and at the car show there was a huge presence of mob affiliated people, it was awesome being around these guys and getting to know them a little bit. A ton of fun and just like everything else in this area it’s a distant memory as everything Is gone. Awesome Video

It's a bit odd that you found that tent pitched inside with so many rooms in decent condition. Even odder that you didn't encounter any homeless people, even though there's evidence that some of the beds were slept in.
I would imagine in the warm weather are probably a lot. In the winter they probably head for intercity to missions where it is warm and food.

The bar with all of the stained glass, was the Off Track Betting bar... I worked there in the early/ mid nineties... and the “large dining room” was the convention center...

I used to work at the tuck in the early 2000s, my friends lived in the building behind the resort. Had many memories there! It's hard to see how ruined it got over the years.
The tour busses outside is amazing
The material on the ceiling softens the lights and makes it more relaxing of an atmosphere for a spa
This is where I stayed on my wedding night. It was such a beautiful place. Sad to see it this way.

This place in reminiscent of the resorts of the Catskill Mountains that offered an all inclusive vacation experience, with its heyday from the 1920s through the 1960s. The double room you found is known as adjoining room(s) and are still popular today, in that they allow for two separate parties, families, friends etc traveling together access and privacy as well. I don't understand why everything useful can't be sold and given to the homeless or habitat for humanity or new entreprenuers. there's so much that is still useful.

Bad idea, the homeless always trash places they live in. Honestly what the homeless need is a prison sentence. I have looked into the feasibility of opening a rehab clinic or rehab center for the homeless but no locality will allow it, plus it is cheaper to put a mentally ill homeless person behind bars and keep them away from women and children.
@@davisvinson5299 The real answer is when you have a place like this, it's all borrowed money. 99% of businesses are like this in the U.S. The bank owns this stuff and always has.
Rocky Mountain High still owns this place (Why they were using it as a soda warehouse). Though last I checked they are now a penny stock so the building may end up back on the market pretty soon.

I worked here for years till 1983. cocktail lounge across from dining room (the bar with armour on the wall) in the night club, aka scarlet room, I was one of the head waitresses down there, The close up of the bar / soda fountain was very eerie, the outdoor pool side on weekends and the disco 😃. Some really fun times. Owned my the Carridi family. So sad to see this.

The property isn't "abandoned" it is bank owned and still up for sale since the original owner's family filed bankruptcy after his death. Not saying it will sell in this state of repair but you never know, especially for the land. However, the property itself is gorgeous. ❤

It was opened in the 70's! & it was a really popular resort by the mountains, especially during the skiing season. I live about 10 minutes from there. It was gorgeous!!

Thank you. This hotel was actually open in the 50s. The mob used to go up there it was a famous motel. Had many memories with my children and my parents used to take us up there when I was a child.

The house behind our childhood home was a gang clubhouse. One day they all just up and left... What we found in there was crazy! Hand made weapons, a crop of weed... I LOVE this. I did this in my late teens in the late 80's early 90's and loved it. We had still cameras with film, and video cameras where the size of... well, you've seen the photos... 1.5 hr batteries (that took 4 hrs to charge) VHS cassettes recording in SP mode 2hr max, weighed 18 lbs... and a $5,000 price tag for an upper low class household. It wasn't leaving the house unless dad was there.

Legion 57 there was no hurricane. I grew up on the road parallel to this. We had a flood in 2011 due to Irene, but it was long after this place shut down. The mafia owned it. The mafia lost their money after the NYPD got straightened up and POOF. The Friar Tuck shut down. I’d be more interested in how many bodies are hidden on the property than what’s inside the building.

This is the Friar Tuck in the Catskills. I used to work there as a waiter years ago. It's up the road from the Catskill Game farm which is closed, and along the way past the Tuck is the old Carson City, closed as well.
I used to work at the tuck as well. And my Dad worked at Carson City for 20years when it was open. Good old Catskill, it will never be the same.
I liked all of those places when I was a kid we went every summer.

Hi! Maybe you can check out The Historic Hollywood Beach Resort/hotel. It’s partially abandoned and it has some very interesting history there
This must be in some sort of legal hold, otherwise the ownership would have sold fixtures and furniture. Those chandeliers alone would be worth cash.
Man I would love to salvage the hell out of that place! Those fixtures and the stained glass were to die for! (Only with permission, though!)

You are in upstate New York and some 25 years ago that place used to be called the Friar Tuck Inn and Resort. I worked for a company that used to run ski tours our of that place it is massive. That large ball room used to have the biggest New Year's party you have ever seen.
The more recent timeline on this hotel just gets wilder. It's a roller coaster for real.
It is such a crying shame that properties like these were not repurposed. Homelessness would not only be a thing of the past, but the people would be would also get to live with dignity.

If it's repurposed, then it has to be maintained. That will be a cost in huge numbers to the town/city. It's a great idea, but costs tons of money to actually do.
I used to go there with friends on Father’s Day weekend they would always have an awesome car show. The place was Mafia ran and owned and at the car show there was a huge presence of mob affiliated people, it was awesome being around these guys and getting to know them a little bit. A ton of fun and just like everything else in this area it’s a distant memory as everything
