My cousin is an RN in North Port and I haven't been able to reach her. She stayed behind to help render aid to those who needed it. Her brother lives in Venice Beach and he stayed behind because his leg is broken and he's immobile. Haven't heard from either of them in over a day. Hoping they're ok

Reminded me of Hurricane IKE that we experienced in 2008!!! It hit my house (Houton, Texas)….Galveston was destroyed!!! Only a handful of houses left standing. Where I lived, it took A MONTH TO GET OUR ELECTRICITY BACK!! It was in August…..HOT AS HELL!!!!!!! Still live in Houston….Glad we didn’t get any Hurricane this year!!!

My family has been in Lee County since 1886. Lot's of family stories about storms they survived with no warning. Many summer storms. Certain way to build and certain way to stay on ready. Things like learning Tampa Bay was draining was a clear indicator anything south of Tampa was going to be under water.
Florida is so big that it ran over ft meyers And naples cut through by Lakeland detoured to Orlando flooded them all the way out. And I’m a little north of Tampa we never lost power. We got winds of 45 mph and almost no rain. Florida is huge.
It is huge, I've traveled all over Florida throughout the years visiting family. Never been a fan.

Those who treated it like a game and got in trouble should help pay for their own rescue costs. I never understood why people love living in such a risky and dangerous place, directly on the coast. It's bad enough several miles inland. Maybe 5 miles inland or more, is acceptable, though.
Exactly - this needs to be brought to people's attention - so many people in the US have to pay higher insurance rates so that other people can live in hurricane-prone coastal areas and keep rebuilding.

@@ssas98 Florida is a good buffer zone between the mainland and the Atlantic ocean, if Florida didn't exist hurricanes would continue to intensify in strength as they pass through the gulf and many more states would be in the path of destruction ( Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas). 9 times / 10 when hurricanes go over Florida they tend to quickly dissipate afterwards.

The Kingdom isn’t at hand today and it was put on hold with the stoning of Steven and the rejection of the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 8, it will start back up after the blessed hope of Christ’s church which is his body (of believers or true Christians) called up to meet him in the clouds )Titus 2:13 & 1st Thessalonians 4:17) God temporarily set aside the Nation of Israel because of their unbelief (Romans 11:11) and brought salvation to the Gentiles by raising up the apostle Paul in Acts chapter 9 and giving him the Gospel of grace which was a secret revelation (Romans 16:25 that he would save Gentiles without the nation of Israel. This was something entirely new because it was the Jews prospect to be a nation of priests or “go betweens” taking salvation to the Gentiles, this is still their role that is to come in the future but not in the time we’re in now. While I agree the times we’re in mark the close return of the Lord Jesus, we aren’t under Judgment, we are still under grace and shouldn’t walk in fear we as believers should practice Philippians 4:6,7 and I pray that the Holy Spirit will call out those to understand and believe the Gospel of the grace of God to be saved by the shed blood, death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus for the remission of sins!

Florida has always been a sea-level isthmus that gets scoured constantly by hurricanes so this weather is pretty typical.

Florida is fairly flat, the two examples Italy and California both happen to be very mountainous. So how are they going to be gone if all the ice melted and the sea rose 230''? Sure San Francisco would become islands and Los Angeles basin would be a large lagoon, but the majority of California is above sea level still.

The flipside of that is, now there are less people that potentially need assistance as a result of Ian. Which is better for the state because more resources will be available to those who need them.
In a few minutes, Gov de Santis will load up two small jets with homeless Floridians and send them to Martha's Vineyard. Tomorrow another load of refugee Floridians will be shipped off to Washington DC, the next day, a flight to Chicago.
The moral of the story is, be careful Mr Governor, tomorrow the one needing help just might be YOU !!
All the more reason to send the immigrants elsewhere. Had the immigrants remained in Florida they'd be cutting into the supply of resources set aside for Floridians. Since the immigrants are now in another state which hasn't been impacted by a hurricane, that state is in a better position to accommodate their basic needs.

1) The legal refugees were actually in TEXAS. De Santis sent jets there to pick them up and fly them up north. For the sake of transparency, I will grant you that De Santis had the jets briefly touch down in Florida, as if that made it legal....
2) The funds to pay for De Santis' political idiotic stunt came from Florida's taxpayers.

Floridians should have foreseen the need for new workers, seeing how this isn't 'their first hurricane.

Puerto Rico politicians hoarded and threw away large amounts of emergency supplies sent during the Trump administration. To make political points, they harmed their own people. The waste of supplies is documented. The Puerto Rican governor during that crisis was later charged with corruption and bribery.
