Making a Pouch from The Mandalorian

- This week I'm crafting a leather belt pouch from the Disney+ show Star Wars: The Mandalorian. I enjoyed the show and wanted to craft something from either Mando's armor or outfit. I don't think I'll do the armor just yet, but I thought the belt pouch he wears to the right of his buckle seemed easy enough for a one day build.
The leather is a 4-4.5oz thick English Tan Dublin from Horween Leather and it exhibits a beautiful pull-up, where the oils and colors beneath the surface show through when stresses are placed into the leather.
The thread is a Vinymo #5 MBT Brown thread.

I do not own the rights to any Lucasfilm or Disney property, whether imagery, video or otherwise mentioned. This is purely a fan trying to show tribute and enthusiasm for the show and it's producers. There is no monetary gain from this video, and is only meant to demonstrate the skills and techniques of the leather craft. Enjoy!
Music drove me mental.
I'm working on a similar pouch now. In my template I incorporated fold up flaps on the bottom panel to cover the seams. I'll be using barge on all of the seams, reinforced with 4 rivets for the back panel for the joining corners and the belt straps. Plus one rivet for the strap that will match yours for closure.
"I'd like to think that this looks like a lamp sphere more than anything else..." 🤣🤣🤣
Haha, yeah, I was trying to say Luke's "land speeder"
Just used your video as inspiration to build a similar pouch.
Like other commenters, I altered the pattern to add 1inch tabs to the bottom section that fold upward into the pouch to eliminate the gap between the side and the bottom. All holes were pre-punched before cutting out the bag to eliminate stretch. To construct it, I used 4 needles (2/side) to saddle-stitch both sides simultaneously so the seams closed evenly. Couldn't use the harness needles for that - had to use the much shorter craft needles sold in newbie kits. I just folded down the back as I worked to make room for my hands. Final size is 3-1/2 square by 1-1/4 deep.
Thanks for sharing an inspirational build!
OMG was thinking ‘Luke’s X39 landspeeder,’ JUST as you said it! Nerds.
Great job, nice look! I've been using rivets for 50 years instead of sewing; the easiest way I found for inside rivets was to put a large cold chisel in a vise, sticking out horizontally for an inside "anvil" , put a piece of leather on top of it to punch holes with a single hole punch. Keep up the great work! Sam
Thanks so much for the advice! I'll have to give it a try next time I do something like this. 😃
welcome 😃
Really good video.
Great work !
Great build.
For sci-fi leather work i avoid stitching and rely on custom tiny rivets and adhesives/barge.
Good tip! That makes a lot of sense for the sci-fi world.
Very cool!
If I could give a double thumbs up I would!
Hey thanks so much! 👍👍
Your vids are so satisfying to watch ❤
Thanks! 😊✌️
Great job! In regards to addressing your question, I would personally alter the design of the pouch a bit. I would have designed the pouch so that the two sides would actually be gussets instead. You would glue the gussets so that they closed off the sides and the bottom. That way, you can still stitch them by hand and secure those corners (as you were asking). When finished, the sides would be indented in contrast to how you built it here in this video. I hope that made sense and helps! At either rate, keep up the good work and take care.
Thanks for the idea! I might work that into a redesign for a pattern eventually. I was trying to avoid stitching this, but it might be the easiest way to assemble this. Thanks for the kind comment! Cheers.
Pretty big land speeder you have there ;)
Solution for those Rivets: 2x4 split down the middle, and counter sink some holes to accept those "anvils" from snap sets. I drilled holes at all 4 corners and it goes in deep and works great.
Thanks for the tips!
Seems like wet molding could do the job, would you like to make one that way?
I love your chanel man :)
Thanks so much! 😄
Hello! Good work :)
should have beveled the sides
i was working on making the same style pouch but couldn't figure out how to properly close off the bottom. guess you don't need to?
I guess you could stitch it up starting from the bottom back corner and up to the top so you don't see it? I'd try this differently if I had to do it again. Let me know how yours turns out, I'd love to see it. Feel free to tag me on Instagram @legacybrandleather and I may just feature it! Cheers! 😎
Pattern and dimension would be good
What are the measurements for the pattern?
Would it be possible to sew the pouch inside out and when finished turn it back outside in? Similar to when shoes are sewn?
Absolutely. However, it would change the overall look of the piece. I imagine it would also have to be designed a bit different, but it would be easier to achieve the shape that way than trying to figure out how to deal with those double cap rivets in the corners.
Isn't that on the left of his belt buckle?
Wheres the template?
How would you go about making a bag smell proof? Any specific zipper you would use?
This dude really wants to put weed in the pouch lmao
And the templates?
Try I think it is called a butt stitch check out The Leathercraft Academy channel he has a video on box stitch and butt stitch
Wet mold it.
Am I the only one for who this video is ultra glitchy?
