My Love is in America (Reel)

This classic piping tune was recorded in 1947 by Johnny Doran (1907-1950). Doran’s playing was recorded by Kevin Danaher of Comhairle Bhéaloideas Éireann on acetates. Harry Bradshaw’s remastering of these priceless recordings can be heard on Johnny Doran: The Master Pipers, Vol. 1. Doran’s wild, virtuosic style of piping made a deep impression on Willie Clancy of County Clare whose playing of this reel can be heard on The Pipering of Willie Clancy, Vol. 1, which was released in 1980. I learned this tune playing in sessions at J. Patrick’s Pub in Baltimore, Maryland.
