- This is a tutorial for crocheting classic Gingham Checks using the technique of Tunisian Entrelac Crochet.
UPDATE: I've done an extra tutorial to show how the non-working yarn can be carried and crocheted around on the colour change rows, significantly reducing the amounts of ends that need weaving in! I know lots of you will appreciate that... :)
• Tunisian Entrelac Ging...
Cutting the ends and weaving them into the back of the square in the same colour does give the neatest possible finish so it's personal preference which method you use - cut the ends or carry the yarn behind the work - it depends how much you want to avoid all those ends!
I used my Gingham squares as part of my 'Picnic on the Beach' Blanket crochet-along. All the details about this blanket and lots more crochet inspiration can be found on my website: coastalcrochet...
Special thanks to Morgan Tully for composing and performing the accompanying music! My very own Coastal Crochet theme... 😄
As soon as I saw this pattern, I knew I HAD TO make it, but was a little intimidated by the Tunisian crochet part. However, your EXCELLENT video makes it so easy to understand. Now I can't wait for my yarn order to arrive so I can start on it!! I really enjoyed watching you crochet, and your voice is so soothing, I could listen to you all day!
Awww… thank you so much! Enjoy it… 🌼😍
Best crochet tutorial that I have ever seen. Thank you.

Very easy to,follow but should I be using a pink needle. My 4.5 is green?
@Peter Mott ?? U must be joking right?
Wow, I absolutely love your picnic on a blanket pattern. It would be a lovely keepsake for any young child. Your tutorial is excellent & I love the music your son composed as well

I bought this kit then downloaded the pattern and thought what have I done I will never be able to do this. But your video is fantastic I can now do gingham without armbands haha. Thank you so much for your clear tutorial.
I'm so glad you said something about the curling I thought I was doing something wrong and so gave up Tunisian crochet all together.

Very helpful, just started to learn thank you
Great video always wonder about curling I use bigger hook then border
Hello, I hope all is well. This is so beautiful! Is there anyway I can make those squares bigger? Thanks in advance
Hi Nichole…. Yes they can be made bigger…. You add more starting chains and therefore pick up more loops and of course you have to do more rows too… but the principle stays the same… 😃💙
Lovely clear tutorial. Just struggling on the fastening off parts- would have been helpful to see them xx
Hi Melanie, when you get to the end of the last square of each diagonal row, simply yarn over and pull through... fastening off in the same way as traditional crochet... 💙💙
@@coastalcrochetdesign thanks so much for replying 😊💙
I so want to learn this
Has anyone tried/thought about a Double Irish Chain "quilt", using this crochet technique? They're on the c2c.
any tips on how to stop it from "leaning" to the left? i'm at my wit's end!
Crocheting the border around it should ease it straighter. Maybe you need to go up a hook size too? Good luck! 🥰💙
@@coastalcrochetdesign a border and a bigger hook certainly help with the curl, but the whole project is still slanting to the left
@@heypookeybearitisi Hi again, I have not encountered this myself but I do know that Tunisian fabric can occasionally slant for some people. Once the rest of the blanket builds around this central square it will even it. There’s a natural bias to Tunisian fabric. Maintaining an even tension is important. I’ve read somewhere that doing the first stitch tighter and the last stitch a little looser might help. And of course blocking the work at the end will make a difference. 😊
what size hook are you using
I’m using a 5mm but it depends on your tension and chosen yarn… 💙💙
Thank you. Help me out
