Only eight years old at the time, but very much aware of who Blondie was. The voice of a goddess with a pop beat. Still think it stands up against all the other efforts in that era.
It was disappointing to see the attitude Chris had when they were inducted into the hall of fame. Diminished their significance due to the relatively short time they were in the band. But like you say - this is THE line up. This is why they were massive - there is no 21st century Blondie without this era and line up.
I haven't heard this song in years. I heard it while eating at a Denny 's restaurant. It reminds me of a girl i knew back in the day. Sandy Crellin of Claremont , California , I had a big crush on you and this song still brings back memories of your beautiful smile.😮
first song i've heard by blondie and still one of my favs. makes me feel so warm inside, remembering summer evenings and nights spent by the sea during teenage years
Right at this time there was The Clash as well which were simply amazing and often overlooked. If you never listened to them, you're missing out. It was an amazing few years from about '77 - '80
I discovered this song when I was a teenager in the late 90s and got a vinyl of the Parallel Lines album. I was in the middle of a burning, absolutely burning crush I had had for years and I ended up running into the guy at a Sunday morning buffet at a restaurant in town, after years of not seeing him. So I took my shot and asked for his number and I ended up trying to get him to agree to give me a try. He spent time with me, let me kiss him on the cheek, but in the end I got friendzoned and he moved on. I still dedicate this song to him. He’s still an absolute Adonis, I’m sure.
As a latecomer to the band I wonder if the musicians behind Deb ever got their due as personal interviews on camera since they really cooked together! Debbie was really the hot/cool sauce in her vibrant delivery.
Written by dh and chris s. Debbie usually came up with the lyrics while chris wrote the music. This was an ode to brooke shields on her movie pretty baby. The movie got the title from an old tin pan alley song. Legend has it, dh seen the movie and wrote the lyrics later.
The concerts were literally their practice as they had gigged pretty much without let-up between, say, 1976/7 until the beginning of 1980. They really upped their game through their association with Mike Chapman.
These guys were so much better than anyone ever gave them credit for. I lived a 10 minute walk from CBGB' in the 70s and 80s but rarely ventured east of Broadway because it was so dangerous back then (Alphabet City was crazy dangerous). I probably wouldn't have appreciated it at the time anyway.
This live version is a perfect encapsulation of a very produced-sounding song ... Debbie doesn't have anything less than a perfect moment here ... (As a side note ... getting Raffarela Carra' vibes at 2:21 ...)
She's wonderful really! But don't forget that she was usually under the influence of heroin, and in her own words: "Heroin addiction was a 'full-time occupation' ".
@@drumbatera She never took heroin while she was working. And the quote you posted had to do with the effort to get drugs which she found to be a real drag. Part of her quitting heroin was to do with the hassle of finding it.
Clem Burke doing his usual magic on the drums, enhancing her gorgeous voice and timing.
she's literally one of a kind. i love her attitude.
Couldn't agree more

She's a legend! Still has it, but back in the day, she was all that and more!
Debbie - incomparable - no other front woman has ever come close.
She's not even trying! So effortless! Love you DEBBIE!
And let’s not forget it took Frank and Nigel to make things perfect. This is THE lineup; hands down.
This was their peak period, (78-81)
Can’t happen without Clem !

Great drummer!
Omg she OWNED this song!!#
Absolutely
This brings back memories of a youth that has long since passed. Great times for so many of us.
💯
Clem Burke great drummer..so so underated....
I always listen for the drums in their songs…I think he was the secret weapon. What a great band…and it’s all real. No click track, nothing. Awesome
Hardly underrated. Celebrated as an extraodinary. guitarist. Recruited by Eurythmics. The Ramones. Many others.
She’s awesome actually harmonizing with guitar players lead parts. Debbie is amazing.
In real time with no auto-tune shiit.
Beauty + Cool + Edge + Talent + Charisma The most complete package ever!!!
Born in 1967. I was 12 yrs old on this date. Brings back memories of wanting to form an alternative band as a teenager in the 80's.
The same lol. Pretty Baby was always my favourite Blondie song
Me too pal
I love how she follows the guitar parts, like cat scamming with the lead player. That’s awesome and really cool. You go Deb.
The best. I can’t wait to show this to my granddaughter. She is only three. I’ll wait until 2030. The best!
Great moment of art in music history in 1979. Now we see that.

Great song and it's always better live. Debbie looked so good, people overlooked her voice, which had real strength and still does.
I was here 2023- & you're truly a pretty baby Debbie!! 💐
I still love you Debbie.
If there was a way, I would give you at least a year of my life...
One of my favourite Blondie tunes. Outstanding
God Bless someone had the awareness and wherewithal to capture this! Here we are all these years later and we get to enjoy this film!
All Blondie’s work still stacks up . When you have it , you really have it & they have it in buckets .
one of my favourite song of Blondie. I love You pretty babe.
Huh
first song i've heard by blondie and still one of my favs. makes me feel so warm inside, remembering summer evenings and nights spent by the sea during teenage years
When you have and combine both substance and style it is indeed a lethally venomous combination...
10 out of 10 ! Rock n Rock / punk ,/ pop / perfect hor

0:33 That rhythm guitar sounds awesome!
Back in the days when pop stars didn't need choreographers, autotune, ghost writers, or marketing.
So true!!!!!! Good old days
The complete package.nothing fake on that girl
Before she had plastic surgery. The blonde hair was out of a bottle though.
No tattoos either. Refreshing..
What a Voice!!
Everything feels so classic in Black & White
I and my girlfriend were there! Of course, Debbie looked so much better in color.

Oh they did. Clem Burke, in particular, is revered as a drumgod.

love that era
Amazing.
Perfection!
Blondie were so tight musically! I wonder how many hours they practiced for this show.
The concerts were literally their practice as they had gigged pretty much without let-up between, say, 1976/7 until the beginning of 1980. They really upped their game through their association with Mike Chapman.
i love Blondie what a Goddess
Best ever , clems constant bass drum
The best !!!

I don't understand this comment, at all! Blondie was immensely popular, and still is.

She's a beautiful woman

Great lyrics, as usual x
She was a pretty baby, pretty girl and pretty woman now
Missed this era by that much.

Don't forget Clem Burke 😜
Не самая сильная вещь Блондей. Но Дебби, как всегда, неимоверна... Только на ней всегда команда и тащила.
Things like this-make ya say"Maybe Cocaine ain't so bad-after all"🎱
That's the Blondie we never hear.
But that's OK...
We don't want everyone liking it. If everyone liked it, they'd commercialize it.
wow.......................................seen her in 80s 90s and 00s,,not here
Love those little chi chi’s.
She made me 😊 😆 happy 😊 when my life was crappy!!! 😛 CRAPPY?!

Needs some reverb (IMO). What is this, off the board direct?
It's 1159 again.
😊
Couldn't see Frank
👍
FANTASTIC CONCERT - BUT THIS WAS 1979 - NOT 1969 OR 1959 - WHY THE BLACK AND WHITE ? 1979 BLACK AND WHITE ??
Perhaps for the same reason Madonna liked to be filmed in black and white, particularly in the 1990s.
