PSA: 📣 Spit anything with coconut oil in a trashcan, not the sink, or you'll ruin your plumbing! Also, coconut oil and essential oils should not be mixed or stored in plastic unless HDPE #2 or PET #1...they break down the chemicals and petrochemicals in the plastics/styrofoams/etc. and will leach toxins back into the product. Better to use glass or stainless steel products to mix and store, to be on the safe side. 🙂
This is true! Thank you for sharing this.
@@sandysteinbrook No problem. 😊 Thank you.
Coconut oil melts fast and easily, so just pour hot water ad it will be flushed out. So it's not a problem for your pipes.
coconut oil..the ones in plastic containers they sell in the store? THAT coconut oil breaks down the very plastic that it's stored in?
@@oneway707 yes, certain plastics don't breakdown as easily, so they use those often, but glass and stainless steel are always superior to remain toxic free. Feel free to look it up!
Using coconut oil in cooking pulling or as toothpaste is fine, but if you pour it down the drain or spit in in the sink it will clog your drains... Seriously you will be calling a plumber at some point.... Coconut oil hardens at room temperature and in the cold drains it will become a solid block......
You're absolutely right!
That is why I don't use coconut oil, don't want to clog sink. I put toothpaste on my brush and dip my brush in baking soda.
@@bettytisdale3397 spit it in the trash.
I love this but I spit in throw away plastic grocery bags
It will melt if you add hot water
Thank you Sandy I've just finished making all mine and just brussed my teeth and the whitening mouth wash my teeth feel so super clean love and blessings from Australia ♥️😊
Thank you for the great natural tips! I am going to start doing this!
Actually, regular tooth paste is more abrasive than baking soda. I watched a dental seminar and the dentist said not to be afraid of baking soda.
Well, isn't this nice to hear! So many comments that it is terrible for teeth, yet my dentist has only ever told me that my teeth are great, not admonish me for using baking soda. Thank you SO much for sharing this. I hope others will read your comment!
Unless you have porcelain veneers
Listen to what this lady says to the T and don’t skip any details. Been doing it a while and she is right.
Your teeth are amazing. It is contagious to try this based on how white your teeth are. Thank you for sharing.

So amazing! My grandmother did this and never had a cavity either. Beautiful teeth!
Thank you for watching, Brittany! Not everyone will agree with me but, it works for me and it sounds like it worked for your grandmother too!
Great video! I also love natural DIY things. We are so similar!
Me too. No chemicals and it saves money!
Thank you so much for this! I started using the baking soda/coconut oil trick about 2 weeks ago and am starting to see results, it's great. The only thing I'd add is to be careful about using teeth whitening toothpaste with baking soda if you are going to try the toothpaste/baking soda method. I think that would be pretty abrasive for your enamel
Thank you for sharing your experience.
@@sandysteinbrook Thank you for these tips. I already use a whitening toothpaste (Arm and Hammer and/or Crest). Would adding baking soda to these toothpastes be too much, in your opinion/experience?
I just use a regular toothpaste instead of whitening, and I have had no problems. What I do a lot of times is brush my teeth and then stick my wet toothbrush in the box and brush is over my teeth afterwards and then rinse. I don't know if it would be any big deal if you just used baking soda with your whitening toothpaste. Does the whitening toothpaste not get your teeth as bright as you would like them?
Baking soda is not that abrasive on teeth
You are a breath of fresh air Sandy, vibrant and looking great too. Thanks for the tips from UK.

I use to do oil pulling everyday and grew up using baking soda on my teeth. When we would run out of toothpaste, my grandmother told us to use baking soda and/or hydrogen peroxide. Baking soda, is also a very effective and healthy alternative use for deodorant.
Thank you for your comment! These healthy ingredients are ok for our teeth. I have had many people say that baking soda is bad for enamel, or that my teeth are fake. Lol. That one cracks me up. Your grandmother knew what she was talking about.

Thank you! So, I have not had any problems with clogging, probably because it is such a small amount I use and spit out at a time. But, if you are worried about that you could spit it in the trash. When I do oil pulling with coconut oil, I spit it out in the trash.
Thank you Sandy ❤

Great! I hope one of the ways, or several, works for you. It is an ongoing thing for me. I do these things regularly. Mostly using the baking soda on my toothbrush since I keep a box in the cabinet right beside of my toothbrush.
I LIKE THE COUNUT OIL AND BAKING SODA
So easy to make. Coconut oil is great for swishing around in your mouth to whiten teeth too. Natural ingredients take longer to see results than store bought ones, but you will have no chemicals in your mouth this way.
Be sure to use natural baking soda rather than "store box brands". Baking soda usually has aluminum in it. Frontier has good baking soda and Dr. Clark's Store has clean organic baking soda.
Thank you! I didn't know this.
Baking soda doesn't have aluminium in it. Baking powder does

Huge plumbing bill and angry house mates.
THANKYOU Sandy. I tried baking soda some years back and it hurt my teeth. Now I can try it safely.
You're welcome!I hope it works for you too
I put baking soda in a plastic condiment squeeze bottle found just about anywhere kitchen utensils sold. Large mouth makes it easy to load and with the lid having a small spout it’s easy to pour on toothbrush. I keep one in my shower and use it as a body scrub. So cheap and lid keeps it dry and my skin is so soft after rubbing a small amount on.
I do that as well! The one in the shower is great for running along parts in your hair to pre-scrub your scalp before shampooing - great for winter itching, after gardening or camping, etc. I used to do it for my oily scalp when I was a teen and was fighting bumps along the hairline.
This is such a good idea! I never thought about that. Thanks for sharing!
Questions: the mouth wash doesn't need to be refridgerated? And how long does it last?
And do you use your mouth wash before or after you brush your teeth?
Thanks for the content, I love natural ways of doing things!
I do not refrigerate the mouthwash and have never had an issue. Maybe because it is distilled or purified water that I use. Plus the batch I always make is small enough that I use it up rather quickly. I use it at night after I brush my teeth.
Hi, that was great!!!!!
Going to tryout all of your suggestions. Especially the mouthwash. Name brands are pretty expensive in the shops. If yours work.....Great news👍👏.
When you use natural methods...it takes longer than the ones you buy in a store. So be aware of that. The mouthwash is a great addition, but definitely use one of the "toothpaste" methods to really help whiten your teeth.
I can't do baking soda because of enamel issues but will try the peroxide, probably food grade. Thank you for non-toxic solutions.
Many people have suggested using food grade peroxide. I am going to look into that. Coconut oil is another great source for healthy teeth too, Charise. Non-toxic and it did wonders for my mouth when I started swishing it to get rid of some plaque I had. Here is a video I did on it, if this is helpful.

I took an empty spice bottle with shaker top, and filled with baking soda and put in my bathroom. This way it’s convenient to just to sprinkle it on my paste-loaded toothbrush.😊
Now, that's a smart idea! Thank your sharing!
I have always had very white teeth. Now that I'm 52, my teeth are discoloring despite wetting my toothbrush with peroxide and dipping it into baking soad for a daily brushing. I have also added use peroxide in my water flosser and ise a salt water rinse nightly. Many years ago, my dentist made me a crown for one of my bottom front teeth and commented that in all the years he had been a dentist, my teeth were the whitest he had seen. He had a difficult time making a crown that matched my white teeth. I should mention that since my 20s, I have drank black tea and coffee, and for many years, I smoked. I gave up smoking and don't drink black tea and coffee daily, yet my teeth are discoloring, and I pull out all the stops to clean my teeth!
Do you think hormones might be playing into the changes?
@Sandy Steinbrook no idea on that one. I have bad receding gums. I had a complete hysterectomy at age 27 and didn't use hormone replacement for decades. Last year, I started bio identical hormones I also found out I had a slow thyroid, so I'm on meds for that, too. I'll be 52 in May.

This was great! Any advice on where to get edible essential oils? ❤
I just now saw your comment all these months later. That's crazy! Anyway, I order my essential oils from Rocky Mountain oils. I use organic for any in my mouth. They are high quality oils without any middle man. I order straight from the website.
I make a slush with baking soda and peroxide, mix it in a glass jar , wet my brush and dip it in the jar. Been using it everyday for years with no problems.
Great tip!! I've been doing similar for years and have never had an issue either.
I do the toothpaste method where i sprinkle it on my toothpaste..it works! I have noticed a difference in just 1 week..not only are they whitening but my breathe stays fresher longer and i dont wake up feeling like a fairy made a poo in my mouth while i slept!

Baking soda made my gums recede. It is very bad for you. I have damaged my gums.
Thank you for this video! After how many weeks or months of using the various methods provided before a person starts to see results?
You will see a difference in weeks. It won't take months. By two to three weeks you will start seeing results. Unless you eat a lot of staining foods or staining drinks. Those set back results.
@@sandysteinbrook thank you!
Great ideas, Sandy! Do you brush your teeth BEFORE you apply one of the whitening methods?
If I am dipping my toothpaste in the baking soda, which is a method I use the most, then I just brush my teeth that way. If I am using the homemade toothpaste, I brush regularly, and then brush with the DIY toothpaste and let it sit on my teeth a minute or two. If I am using hydrogen peroxide, I brush first.
i dont think so
@@sandysteinbrook Hi there. Do you mean you use the coconut oil toothpaste first then after you use the regular toothpaste and dip it in the baking powder? Or is it the other way around?
@@Dbo9078, use one method or another. Either use regular toothpaste and dip it in the baking soda, OR use the coconut oil toothpaste you make. Also, you can use the mouthwash every day. Hi Sandy!
Great tips on a budget you got there. Your pearly white are literally sparkling 🦷
I got several questions, hope you don't mind :
1. Did you have any dental procedure in the such as braces, fillings, crowns, root canal, veneers, implants, or something like that?
2. Did your teeth have any sensitivity when eating something cold or sweet like ice cream?
3. Did you ever whiten or bleach your teeth?
4. How about making another video on your other dental routines to keep those pearly whites, such as flossing?
I'm jealous with your teeth, I would pay money to have pearly whites like yours.
I hope you answer my question, thank you ☺️
#subbed
Hi Jenn!! Thank you so much for watching and your questions. Usually I am quicker about answering but have been on a nice long vacation.
1. I did have braces when I was in middle school. 7th grade. I have had no other dental procedures though.
2. every once in a while I will have sensitivity. But nothing that has bothered me and I use regular toothpaste, not anything for sensitivity.
3. I have never bleached my teeth but I have tried Crest Whitestrips before but, they really hurt my teeth, so I no longer use anything like that.
4. I do floss. I like flossing. Plus I have one tooth that has a gap and seems to get food stuck in it, so I carry floss with me. My dentist says flossing is uber important.
I hope this was helpful!

Welcome!
I do the peroxide about every other day, but I do it while I still have the Baking soda in my mouth, that way, it bubbles. Dentist said that must be why my teeth are so white.
Great idea!
Hi sandy! So I stained my teeth about a year ago ( I drank a lot of soda’s while I had my braces on ) and I’ve been wanting to whiten my teeth, my older sister suggested peroxide and baking soda so I tried it and it didn’t do much, it cleaned my teeth a bit but nothing extreme. It was only my first time using it but I was just wondering if that technique actually worked long term. In the video you mentioned in the beginning you could use the peroxide once a month but my sister mentioned using it 4-5 times a week once a day, which I’m not sure is 100% safe, what are your thoughts?
So, I can only speak from experience, By using this way of whitening, it does take longer and you will not see immediate results, but if you stick to it, it really does work! But, you have to take it slow or you're going to have sore teeth. I think 4-5 times a week is way too often to use peroxide. I would be afraid to hurt my teeth doing it that often.
If you're a soda or tea drinker, try to drink through a straw so you're not constantly staining your teeth.
Thanks for watching, Delaney! I love questions.
@@sandysteinbrook alright, thank you! I really appreciate that you responded :)
