When this situation happened I went from: "Damn, James is such a bad friend" to "Damn, Tati is such a bad friend" to "Damn, everyone involved in this sucks"
In hindsight, it’s so ironic that the accusations against James weren’t even the focal point of Tati’s video and she was more upset about the sugar bear hair thing. It’s giving “I can accept sexually inappropriate accusations, but I draw the line at gummy bears”
I took it differently. I think it was the straw that broke the camels back. When you’re friends with people you’re more likely to ignore their downsides and ignore red flags. I’m sure James spoke to her about these people but worded it as he always does, that he’s the victim. And she said she felt like his mother figure so I’m sure he was defensive. But when Jeffrey spoke about how James really is and she saw how he treated her even though she treated him better than others. I think the sugar bear part culminated into the rose colored eye glasses shattering and all the pieces clicked
I think this is an unfair statement to make considering she's been a victim of SA. I think she had a lot of misinformation spread to her by Shane and Jeffree. So when she felt betrayed over the vitamins, it led her to get on youtube and make all the speculation about his predatory ways public for the whole world to shit on him
it's still so bananas to me that tati claimed there was nothing she could do to change james' behavior other than dropping a public nuke on his career...like girl, text his mom lol

Even though we found out later that James is hugely problematic as far as his romantic interests go, this has always bugged the hell out of me about Tati- she either knew he was a predator all along and stayed quiet until it benefitted her to speak out OR she was willing to lie and throw him under the bus over vitamins. People choose to let that major detail slide, and it bothers me so much!
That's what gets me when people try excusing the participants in this based on James Charles's recently revealed actions - if they knew about his predatory behavior, they still used that to their own benefit. There are no heroes or good guys here. It's all a bunch of awful, petty, racist, predatory creeps.

i remember the internet going from being 100% on tatis side when bye sisters dropped then, 100% on james side after no more lies. then everything came out about james crimes, tatis manipulation, and jefferre and shane’s involvement and people had no idea what to think. i think the way the internet flip flopped has changed the way we think about these situations since things were wayyyy more complicated than we first believed.

Maybe its because I'm closer to Tati's age but when I first heard of this drama my reaction was 'These are full grown adults acting like this?????' and also 'you went to cry in a public form for all the internet to see because your friend used someone else's product??????'. That's what gets me with this whole shitstorm. James Charles was 19, the rest were grown adults and Jeffrey Star and Shane Dawson were definitely worse than him in the predatory aspect. It definitely read as big companies trying to destroy a young competitor with the shittiest PR strategy ever.

When Tati dropped Bye Sister I was going through ketamine treatments for severe depression and I remember I woke up to James' video in an absolute ketamine EUPHORIA and I was like yes bitch let's do this. I went to grab a Ben & Jerry's pint and settled in. Maybe it's bad but the drama was hot and fresh off the presses and I was living for it lmao
I was at work cleaning my office when it dropped, and I closed the door and played it with my speaker and only cleaned like one shelf during the hold dang hour long video lololol I was living for it too
I think it’s also important to note that when Bye Sister dropped, it felt like it had a lot of credibility because so many celebs on Twitter called out James too! Jeffrey tweeted saying how his boyfriend hated when James came over, Zara Larsson tweeted something similar too, the Dolan twins to whom he’s left several cringy comments on their posts thirsting after them and later became his friends had now unfollowed him, among so many others that I’m forgetting. I mean it also came from Tati, who was pretty much unproblematic and felt like a mother figure in the beauty community! Like the video held a lot of weight coming from her alone, but the fact that so many celebrities backed her up, it felt like a pattern of behaviour that everyone felt (later found to be true). that’s why I chose to believe what she was saying at that time!

I vividly remember how everything went down. My boyfriend and I had broken up and I had recently moved out and back in with my parents (we wound up getting back together a year later and I moved back in) but the drama definitely gave me a distraction from my heartbreak at the time lol what a wild time to be alive!

I fully agree that this wasn't just petty beauty guru drama, such as an influencer releasing a crappy product or collaboration or someone tweeting or saying something racist. This really did get a lot of mainstream attention. RUclips even allegedly contacted Tati directly to ask her to private or take down the video. It was honestly historic for not only the beauty community but for all of RUclips.
I think there was a big thing you missed. Tati asked James to promote Halo Beauty and he said no because his fan base is young and he didn’t want to do that. She was extremely understanding of that. THEN he went and promoted Sugar Bear Hair. So that’s why she felt betrayed, Coachella tickets were more important than his integrity and their friendship.
I mean, I don't blame him if he got mobbed and feared for his safety. And Tati used her knowledge of allegations against him just to get back to him about VITAMINS, she didn't give a shit about the victims.
No but the thing is, he did talk about her vitamins in a few of his videos, and he showed that in his response. I think it all comes down to her feeling betrayed about him promoting a competitor because he wanted better passes. But at the end of the day she still made that video and gained allot of money from it, not only from the views but from purchasing of her vitamins. If only 10% of the viewers of that video went and bought her vitamins, that would have resulted in THOUSANDS for her. So all in all it was a net positive for her in terms of money made, and I think that was definitely a contributing factor to why she made said video

I was in a cab, going home after a night of clubbing at 5am and in my drunken, exhausted haze I accidentally opened youtube and saw it there. Promptly slapped my friend awake and we stayed up until the sun rose to watch it
It was around 5pm here in the UK when the video dropped. I was literally walking out of the office, opened up my phone, saw the video and turned back round, I sat at my office desk, watched the video and stayed longer in the office to fully comprehend what I had just seen.

The craziest part of this whole situation to me is that I vividly remember reading a (completely irrelevant) fanfic months after all this and out of nowhere the characters started talking about what a Queen james was for "clapping back with receipts" with the no more lies video. It was just so bizarre... this drama truly shook every corner of the internet

Tati was the one who made this whole drama so confusing. First we thought she was right about everything. Then we thought she was just being petty about her vitamins. Then she came out with her apology video, calling it all a scheme by Shane and Jeffree, which made sense at the time. Turns out her initial accusations about James were correct - why did she take them back? Why didn't she come out earlier, only when she was salty about her vitamins?
She took the accusations back because she said they were "lies fed to her" by shane & jeffree. basically none of them had any proof that James was a predator, they just wanted to take him down. So she came out saying it was all a lie (to save her butt) but now it turns out it was true (or at least kinda true) so now she basically just made herself look like a petty gossiper who just listens to (and posts about) everything everyone says and never thinks for herself. it's pathetic really, and she basically got away with it all because she comes off as a "sweet mom". super annoying.

She trusted the wrong people twice, which must be painful. You're right, it might seem like "just vitamins" to us, but in the end, it's a betrayal of trust on top of many things that came before. Tati is literally almost in her 40's, she showed her lack of maturity and as someone who religiously watched her prior to "bye sister", I'll never look at her the same. She didn't care about James's problematic behavior until she could use it as a weapon against him when she was pissed about him not promoting "her brand". Shane and Jeffree didn't reach out to her either, LBVS... she reached out to them because she knew they didn't like him and she was pissed at him. Remember back in middle school when your "BFF" would get mad at you and suddenly became "suuuuuper close" with the one girl who hates you? That's what people who are losers do, they run to people they know dislike you to go and talk shit about you when a week ago they were calling themselves your closest ally. Truly, this lady is a weirdo. (so is James, but in this scenario she took the cake and then ate it too)

petty vitamin drama aside - I have a hard time believing it to be a coincidence that tati called james out for sexual misconduct years ago, and public perception of her was as a liar because of all the petty drama in the mix - but this year, it was proven that james was indeed involved in sexual misconduct. i think there was a grain of truth to what tati said back then, but it got overshadowed by all the other crap
I think the same, there was clearly a grain of truth in all of it. But I feel like Tati's video made it worse, and probably emboldened James because after his No More Lies video, everyone was on his side, and he was able to disprove everything (at the time) and it took a lot longer for the truth to come out. Especially after Tati apologized to him, people stopped side eyeing a lot of what he was doing and I feel like he used that sympathy and notoriety to find even more victims.
You're really simplifying what he was accused of vs what he actually did. She never accused him of harassing his own fans for nudes, she accused him of going after people she assumed were straight. How are those two things related? What he did was abhorrent but since when does an archer get half credit for missing the target?

I sympathized with James at the time because the way Tati called him out for alleged predatory behavior struck me as petty and high-key homophobic. While that may have been true, however, James did turn out to be an actual predator. The guy clearly has a massive ego and went after young fans because he wanted to be treated like a god.

the day tati released bye sister was like one of the worst days and weekends of my life. i was experiencing withdrawal by myself and the only thing i had to keep my grounded from the pain was tatis bye sister and all the drama videos that came after it. so while it’s turned into one of the most major scandals in the beauty community i was kinda thankful for it at the time 😬

He actually did promote her vitamins multiple times though, so I don't understand her hurt. In D'angelo Wallace's video he showed multiple James Charles clips where he made stories on snapchat, an insta post, and a YT collab video where he talked about Halo Beauty. I've never watched either of them, but there were clips of this.
i lost my lil hamster early tuesday morning, i stayed up with him all night before he finally took his last breath. i slept for the majority of the day because i had been up for over 24 hours and waking up and seeing this really put a smile on my face. you’re one of my favorites youtubers, and i categorize that as someone who’s videos i’ll watch no matter what it’s about. thank you hannah for the mood boost💘

Before this drama happened, I truly had rose-colored glasses on when it came to Tati. It was an eye-opening experience realizing that she is just as flawed as anyone else. Everyone involved in this situation was at fault in one way or another.
What this situation taught me: Fame doesn’t corrupt people. Corrupt people become famous. There’s just no way people can get to that “level” of societal status without doing at least a couple shitty things. And once they hit their goal level of fame, they get cocky and the only thing that changes is their comfortability which is why their sneaky behaviors starts coming to light. I just truly believe at this point every famous person has red stains on their hands; some are just better at keeping their mouths shut and their connections in check.
I DEFINITELY think Bye Sister was a “Where we’re you when it happened” moment, I literally roped my best friend into it at the time and she didn’t even know about the beauty community

Jeez, I even stop studying to watch this drama, which I had no idea who these people were before! Even the news covered this whole drama, and that’s something huge
Bye Sister is so big that it's youtube trending even in my country (Philippines). And I remember where I watched the Bye, Sister video. I'm riding a provincial bus from the province to the metro and that's a LONGGGG RIDE. And I'm just sitting at the bus shocked. I'm like "Why are the gurus fighting? Is this a first world problem? What's happening? Why are they doing this in public or why post this just talk in private."
While I think Tati was wrong for the way she handled the vitamin thing, I disagree with your opinion. Tati helped James get a better contract, get contacts, and lift his career. My sister was the creative director for Bath and Bodyworks for YEARS. She designed the photoshoots and advertising stuff. I refused to buy candles from other brands while she worked there. She left last year, so I can buy other candles now, but I think there's more to it than James missing out on SugarBear Hair money. I always felt like it was a betrayal, but a betrayal Tati handled poorly.

I remember watching No More Lies and having the same reaction as you. I swear I was flabbergasted that people saw that video as James winning anything. He ignored basically everything claimed against him and just fixated on details that he could show a text to support that didn’t actually prove anything but people ate it up like candy.

I think you raise a good point, James' relations with unwilling and underage partners in my memories was a much bigger part of her video too. But she really didn't care about that at all, she just wanted to throw that in there as ammunition so people couldn't say it was because of vitamins. Funnily enough, after James' was once again revealed to have inappropriate contact with minors, a lot of people were saying 'oh so Tati, Shane and Jeffree were right after all!'. As if they ever really cared about that, they just wanted him gone from the internet and didn't care what they had to do to achieve that. I firmly believe that had Dramagedon 2 not happened, James' behaviour would have been revealed much sooner but because he was able to twist Dramagedon in his favour people didn't believe a lot of alleged victims of his that came forward.
It so weird reflecting on this situation as someone who lives in the city James was in (he was opening a temporary store) when this all went down. Also, seeing as i do live in that city, and was in Brisbane the day he left, can confirmed the video of him in the Brisbane airport was embarrassingly staged.
I think it’s interesting that even after all we know now about James, out of all 3 of them, Tati continues to be the one impacted the most. I think Tati def messed up and the glass kind of did shatter for me with her BUT out of the 3 of those people I don’t think she’s nearly as problematic so I am struggling to understand why, years later, she’s still the one most impacted by all of this. Seems weird to me.

The bye sister drama is what actually got me watching YT beauty content for the first time. I don't wear much makeup, but James had been in some makeup commercial that was everywhere and I had thought that was cool, and then when this drama hit mainstream news I was like "isn't that the covergirl kid?" Or whatever company it was lol. So I got curious and came to YT for the real news.
I’ll never forget watching the Bye Sister video for the first time. I didn’t even know who Tati was but I was hearing about it and work was dead so I watched it in part there. It’s wild how many ramifications it had.
It looked petty of Tati to drop Bye Sister “bc of vitamins,” but there was a reason bts. Tati ran into legal trouble with her company’s business partner. The partner was $$$ backing her and she sort of promised success due to her “connections in the industry.” She was upset that her peers weren’t supporting her because she specifically named them as a critical part of her strategy to this partner.. He was expecting them to do so! Well, the guy was all types of shady and fraudulent if I remember correctly, but it was mentioned in his lawsuit against them (or maybe it was a counter suit?? The whole Clark Swanson story got messy fast.) We didn’t get to see this part when it initially went down 😬✌🏾Ppl said stop ‘crying over vitamins’ but, ultimately, she was crying Bc she couldn’t follow through on what she promised business-wise. She knew it was gonna cost her big time 😬😬
Well, yeah, but that's not James's problem. Tati was 35 at the time, she should've taken care of her own mess rather than lash out at an 18/19-year-old. She knew better than this. Also doesn't excuse the fact that SHE KNEW JAMES WAS A PREDATOR AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL SHE HAD A VENDETTA TO FULFILL Helps explain her reaction, god knows bad business deals are stressful, but that wasn't James's problem. In terms of Tati asking James not to do a sponsorship, I think it's a lot different when you consider the fact that James was a millionaire. He was able to turn down the sponsorship without much of a problem. It'd be a different conversation if he was some kid that Tati knew that was struggling to make it in the beauty world, but the fact that he had just taken home millions of dollars through his palette...I could see it. Like if I had a brand that was doing okay but couldn't afford sponsorships, and a super close friend of mine who is a small influencer takes on a sponsorship of a brand with a similar product who does have the budget, I wouldn't be mad. But if I know for a fact that they can afford to turn it down on the basis that they just brought home millions of dollars...I think I see where Tati is coming from.
And the fact that Tati made him a lot of money. She gave his code to her viewers. She and her husband negotiated deals on his behalf. He bit that hand that fed him, and I think people Tati's age, like me, really glommed onto that. It was so ungrateful.
but wasn’t the whole point of him taking on the sugar bear hair sponsorship to get special Coachella passes because he was getting mobbed at the festival. He didn’t need money he needed special passes and only sugar bear hair could get them for him. Honestly that could have been a complete lie on his part, but that is what he has said publicly. It would be a different situation if it was just money but even then asking your friends to give up career opportunities so you can increase your profit is weird. I dislike both of them, actually dislike James much more, but Tati was nowhere near justified in what she did. And even if it was a betrayal, airing out all of that online? deal with in private like an adult.
You know I also feel that what Gabriel zamora was constantly saying about keeping it a 100 and that she's crying about vitamins really pushed her. First of all, it's not just vitamins, its her business. Secondly, Tati has gone above and beyond for James Charles. From continuously promoting his merch, wearing in her videos multiple times, promoting his palette with morphe and not only that I remember that she also promoted his code with morphe. I believe that she was right in feeling the way she did and when someone like Gabriel who probably does not even know a lot about you goes on and makes fun about you, one would want to clear things out. Things however took a bad turn for Tati.
To be honest this Dramageddon really set the tone on how many big platform influences use some sort of scandal or literally make/have something to sell their merch or product. It also helps them stay relevant.
There is never enough talk about how Tati weaponized homophobia. Her emphasis wasn't really about James using his status to be predatory, but that he was using his status to be predatory to straight people & how gross it was that he was hitting on *straight people*. Like, she had her personal grudge about the vitamins but knew that she needed more dirt to stir flames, and rather than talking about him abusing power & status her chosen narrative was "James you can't be gay at straight people."

My boyfriend was literally coming back from a 3 day mountain climb he had climbed when he learned about bye sister . Our friends were talking about it in the car and none of us can mention Tati or James without he ranting for at least a minute about how it ruined the drive down the mountain. I remember we’re I was when it dropped up nothing will top that story in my opinion.
I genuinely think that this whole scandal will be considered an important historical event in terms of social media, cancellations, pr, and so much more. Like the internet in many ways can be viewed in pre and post bye sister world it’s that impactful

Tati's video was the catalyst to all of this while Jeffree starts pulling the strings in the background, using his then newly formed relationship with Shane. Looking back, hindsight is definitely 20/20.
Not justifying Tati's behavior, but JS and Shane totally manipulated her to leverage themselves and their career. I believe it to be largely calculated by those two men. I think Tati told them she was mad and then they saw the opportunity to stir the pot because they were working on that series with JS and this would be great added content. I also don't think it was 100% intentional. I think Shane and JS have been involved in drama for so long that it's almost instinct at this point. That said, Tati knew better and to put any blame on them was a poor choice. She can make her own decisions. She shouldn't have made a video while she was still heated. The fault is her own. But, I do see JS and Shane seeing the potential benefit for themselves during this whole chaotic mess.

I think another important point is that James *specifically* told SugarBear Hair that he would not promote their regular hairgrowth multivitamins in exchange for the Coachella tickets. He made sure to only promote the melatonin sleep vitamins which you actually CAN take along with any other hair vitamin/multivitamin(s) and doesn’t conflict bc or compete at all with anything in Tati’s brand. Obviously it still shined a huge spotlight on the brand that was her biggest competition and obviously we can all see how that would hurt coming from a close friend, but he did make an attempt to try to make everyone happy. Might be a small detail but it does like some holes in Tati’s reasoning for being upset and trying to saying it’s “different than having multiple makeup items,” etc, and it shows that even though James is young and maybe the decision to trade a friend’s potential feelings for some VIP tickets wasn’t the most mature, he at least was trying to be somewhat considerate of her. Not a fan of either of them and I think no one came out of this smelling like a rose, but I feel like this is a worthy point to bring up. 🤷🏼♀️

The next day, I was updating the middle aged women in the office about the drama. The GRIP this had on 19 year old me and the 45 year olds in my office job🤣
Tati was also talking to HFTT behind the scenes before she posted her Bye sister video. HFTT uploaded her video about Tati’s video literally 4 minutes after Tati. I remember this VIVIDLY! I talked to Sam about it but of course she denied it, I had the screen shot but let it go because HFTT is (was) one of my favs ❤️
I also literally remember where I was when that video dropped (It was a sunny day, I got the notification while putting my makeup on at my graduate school desk before a big presentation) I gasped out loud and listened in disbelief while I got ready.

I couldn’t imagine being “disgusted” that a millionaire did a quick ad for a company other than his mentor’s, who is an insanely wealthy, fully grown woman. And the fact that she posted a video bawling about it warrants intensive therapy and self-reflection. I also can’t fathom getting offended and enraged at the price someone sets for tickets. Even living through this, the video is so interesting. I enjoyed your take on Tati not wanting James to do the SBH ad. I've always thought that Tati was upset because James told her he wouldn't promote Halo Beauty because he didn't want to promote vitamins to his young audience but then went and promoted SBH. And I think that's valid to be upset about, however, I never stopped to think that she wanted him to promote Halo for free whereas SBH was willing to pay him. It seems to me that James didn't care about promoting vitamins to his young audience, he just wanted to get paid. Again, a valid position to take. But he also didn't want to tell Tati that because they were friends. As you said, when you start muddying friendship and business, bad things can happen.
What everyone keeps forgetting is that James didn‘t publicly say a word about Halo Beauty until all of this and explained it to Tati by claiming he wasn‘t comfortable endorsing vitamins to his underage fanbase. + they weren’t just friends, the Westbrooks mentored James and taught him how to monetize videos etc. That‘s why it stung so much when he promoted what are basicslly sleeping pills to his children viewers
I also think promoting sleeping pills is was more dangerous to put out there to an audience that's mostly made up of minors than hair and skin vitamins. Not that either may be appropriate, but JC's values were monetary valued, that's evident.
And in his sponsored post, James implied that the vitamins help with anxiety, which is not evidence based. Very irresponsible to suggest to a young audience!

I'm from Venezuela, and that year we had some horrible nation wide black outs that lasted for days (the first one lasted 5 days, then two weeks later another one that lasted almost 9 days, and so on). After that, in my state, we would have only 12hrs DAILY of electricity (ah, the perks of socialism), so from 2pm to 8pm we had electricity, then six hours without it, and then electricity again from 2am to 8am, and so on. I had no electricity when this all happened, so I used my mobile data to watch the whole +40min video, it was WILD.
Are they really friends, tho? Tati said in a later video that she and James had discussed the fallout and the roles Shane and J* played, but all I got from that was that they were comparing notes, not that they were friends again.

It was night when the video was released so a few girls on the trip huddled around a laptop in a hotel room and ate a bunch of snacks. It was all we talked about for a few days.

I took it differently. I think it was the straw that broke the camels back. When you’re friends with people you’re more likely to ignore their downsides and ignore red flags. I’m sure James spoke to her about these people but worded it as he always does, that he’s the victim. And she said she felt like his mother figure so I’m sure he was defensive. But when Jeffrey spoke about how James really is and she saw how he treated her even though she treated him better than others. I think it’s also important to note that when Bye Sister dropped, it felt like it had a lot of credibility because so many celebs on Twitter called out James too! Jeffrey tweeted saying how his boyfriend hated when James came over, Zara Larsson tweeted something similar too, the Dolan twins to whom he’s left several cringy comments on their posts thirsting after them and later became his friends had now unfollowed him, among so many others that I’m forgetting. I mean it also came from Tati, who was pretty much unproblematic and felt like a mother figure in the beauty community! Like the video held a lot of weight coming from her alone, but the fact that so many celebrities backed her up, it felt like a pattern of behaviour that everyone felt (later found to be true). that’s why I chose to believe what she was saying at that time!

I fully agree that this wasn't just petty beauty guru drama, such as an influencer releasing a crappy product or collaboration or someone tweeting or saying something racist. This really did get a lot of mainstream attention. RUclips even allegedly contacted Tati directly to ask her to private or take down the video. It was honestly historic for not only the beauty community but for all of RUclips.

I think there was a big thing you missed. Tati asked James to promote Halo Beauty and he said no because his fan base is young and he didn’t want to do that. She was extremely understanding of that. THEN he went and promoted Sugar Bear Hair. So that’s why she felt betrayed, Coachella tickets were more important than his integrity and their friendship.

No but the thing is, he did talk about her vitamins in a few of his videos, and he showed that in his response. I think it all comes down to her feeling betrayed about him promoting a competitor because he wanted better passes. But at the end of the day she still made that video and gained allot of money from it, not only from the views but from purchasing of her vitamins. If only 10% of the viewers of that video went and bought her vitamins, that would have resulted in THOUSANDS for her. So all in all it was a net positive for her in terms of money made, and I think that was definitely a contributing factor to why she made said video

I don't think Shane did anything. As for Jeffree, he called JC a predator AFTER she released that video (for me, he was supporting Tati, who he believed was his friend at that time). Prove me wrong, show me proof Shane and Jeffree plotted against James. Because Tati said she would, but she never did. The "they made me do it" routine, I don't buy it at all. In my opinion, Tati took advantage Shane and Jeffree were already dealing with their problems back then.
The craziest part of this whole situation to me is that I vividly remember reading a (completely irrelevant) fanfic months after all this and out of nowhere the characters started talking about what a Queen james was for "clapping back with receipts" with the no more lies video. It was just so bizarre... this drama truly shook every corner of the internet

Tati was the one who made this whole drama so confusing. First we thought she was right about everything. Then we thought she was just being petty about her vitamins. Then she came out with her apology video, calling it all a scheme by Shane and Jeffree, which made sense at the time. Turns out her initial accusations about James were correct - why did she take them back? Why didn't she come out earlier, only when she was salty about her vitamins?
She took the accusations back because she said they were "lies fed to her" by shane & jeffree. basically none of them had any proof that James was a predator, they just wanted to take him down.
So she came out saying it was all a lie (to save her butt) but now it turns out it was true (or at least kinda true)
so now she basically just made herself look like a petty gossiper who just listens to (and posts about) everything everyone says and never thinks for herself. it's pathetic really, and she basically got away with it all because she comes off as a "sweet mom". super annoying.

Tati is literally almost in her 40's, she showed her lack of maturity and as someone who religiously watched her prior to "bye sister", I'll never look at her the same. She didn't care about James's problematic behavior until she could use it as a weapon against him when she was pissed about him not promoting "her brand". Shane and Jeffree didn't reach out to her either, LBVS... she reached out to them because she knew they didn't like him and she was pissed at him. Remember back in middle school when your "BFF" would get mad at you and suddenly became "suuuuuper close" with the one girl who hates you? petty vitamin drama aside - I have a hard time believing it to be a coincidence that tati called james out for sexual misconduct years ago, and public perception of her was as a liar because of all the petty drama in the mix - but this year, it was proven that james was indeed involved in sexual misconduct. i think there was a grain of truth to what tati said back then, but it got overshadowed by all the other crap
I think the same, there was clearly a grain of truth in all of it. But I feel like Tati's video made it worse, and probably emboldened James because after his No More Lies video, everyone was on his side, and he was able to disprove everything (at the time) and it took a lot longer for the truth to come out. Especially after Tati apologized to him, people stopped side eyeing a lot of what he was doing and I feel like he used that sympathy and notoriety to find even more victims.
You're really simplifying what he was accused of vs what he actually did. She never accused him of harassing his own fans for nudes, she accused him of going after people she assumed were straight. How are those two things related? What he did was abhorrent but since when does an archer get half credit for missing the target?

Before this drama happened, I truly had rose-colored glasses on when it came to Tati. It was an eye-opening experience realizing that she is just as flawed as anyone else. Everyone involved in this situation was at fault in one way or another.
What this situation taught me: Fame doesn’t corrupt people. Corrupt people become famous. There’s just no way people can get to that “level” of societal status without doing at least a couple shitty things. And once they hit their goal level of fame, they get cocky and the only thing that changes is their comfortability which is why their sneaky behaviors starts coming to light. I just truly believe at this point every famous person has red stains on their hands; some are just better at keeping their mouths shut and their connections in check.
I DEFINITELY think Bye Sister was a “Where we’re you when it happened” moment, I literally roped my best friend into it at the time and she didn’t even know about the beauty community

I'm riding a provincial bus from the province to the metro and that's a LONGGGG RIDE. And I'm just sitting at the bus shocked. I'm like "Why are the gurus fighting? Is this a first world problem? What's happening? Why are they doing this in public or why post this just talk in private."
While I think Tati was wrong for the way she handled the vitamin thing, I disagree with your opinion. Tati helped James get a better contract, get contacts, and lift his career. My sister was the creative director for Bath and Bodyworks for YEARS. She designed the photoshoots and advertising stuff. I refused to buy candles from other brands while she worked there. She left last year, so I can buy other candles now, but I think there's more to it than James missing out on SugarBear Hair money. I always felt like it was a betrayal, but a betrayal Tati handled poorly.

I remember watching No More Lies and having the same reaction as you. I swear I was flabbergasted that people saw that video as James winning anything. I think you raise a good point, James' relations with unwilling and underage partners in my memories was a much bigger part of her video too. But she really didn't care about that at all, she just wanted to throw that in there as ammunition so people couldn't say it was because of vitamins. Funnily enough, after James' was once again revealed to have inappropriate contact with minors, a lot of people were saying 'oh so Tati, Shane and Jeffree were right after all!'. As if they ever really cared about that, they just wanted him gone from the internet and didn't care what they had to do to achieve that. I firmly believe that had Dramagedon 2 not happened, James' behaviour would have been revealed much sooner but because he was able to twist Dramagedon in his favour people didn't believe a lot of alleged victims of his that came forward.
It so weird reflecting on this situation as someone who lives in the city James was in (he was opening a temporary store) when this all went down. Also, seeing as i do live in that city, and was in Brisbane the day he left, can confirmed the video of him in the Brisbane airport was embarrassingly staged.

The bye sister drama is what actually got me watching YT beauty content for the first time. I don't wear much makeup, but James had been in some makeup commercial that was everywhere and I had thought that was cool, and then when this drama hit mainstream news I was like "isn't that the covergirl kid?" Or whatever company it was lol. So I got curious and came to YT for the real news.
I’ll never forget watching the Bye Sister video for the first time. I didn’t even know who Tati was but I was hearing about it and work was dead so I watched it in part there. It’s wild how many ramifications it had.
It looked petty of Tati to drop Bye Sister “bc of vitamins,” but there was a reason bts. Tati ran into legal trouble with her company’s business partner. The partner was $$$ backing her and she sort of promised success due to her “connections in the industry.”

Well, the guy was all types of shady and fraudulent if I remember correctly, but it was mentioned in his lawsuit against them (or maybe it was a counter suit?? The whole Clark Swanson story got messy fast.) We didn’t get to see this part when it initially went down 😬✌🏾Ppl said stop ‘crying over vitamins’ but, ultimately, she was crying Bc she couldn’t follow through on what she promised business-wise. In terms of Tati asking James not to do a sponsorship, I think it's a lot different when you consider the fact that James was a millionaire. He was able to turn down the sponsorship without much of a problem. It'd be a different conversation if he was some kid that Tati knew that was struggling to make it in the beauty world, but the fact that he had just taken home millions of dollars through his palette...I could see it. Like if I had a brand that was doing okay but couldn't afford sponsorships, and a super close friend of mine who is a small influencer takes on a sponsorship of a brand with a similar product who does have the budget, I wouldn't be mad. But if I know for a fact that they can afford to turn it down on the basis that they just brought home millions of dollars...I think I see where Tati is coming from.
And the fact that Tati made him a lot of money. She gave his code to her viewers. She and her husband negotiated deals on his behalf. He bit that hand that fed him, and I think people Tati's age, like me, really glommed onto that. It was so ungrateful.
Not only that, but he also did it for those artist passes for Coachella.

He didn’t need money he needed special passes and only sugar bear hair could get them for him. Honestly that could have been a complete lie on his part, but that is what he has said publicly. It would be a different situation if it was just money but even then asking your friends to give up career opportunities so you can increase your profit is weird. I dislike both of them, actually dislike James much more, but Tati was nowhere near justified in what she did. And even if it was a betrayal, airing out all of that online? deal with in private like an adult.

You know I also feel that what Gabriel zamora was constantly saying about keeping it a 100 and that she's crying about vitamins really pushed her. First of all, it's not just vitamins, its her business. Secondly, Tati has gone above and beyond for James Charles. From continuously promoting his merch, wearing in her videos multiple times, promoting his palette with morphe and not only that I remember that she also promoted his code with morphe. I believe that she was right in feeling the way she did and when someone like Gabriel who probably does not even know a lot about you goes on and makes fun about you, one would want to clear things out. Things however took a bad turn for Tati.
To be honest this Dramageddon really set the tone on how many big platform influences use some sort of scandal or literally make/have something to sell their merch or product. It also helps them stay relevant.

Prove me wrong, show me proof Shane and Jeffree plotted against James. Because Tati said she would, but she never did. The "they made me do it" routine, I don't buy it at all. In my opinion, Tati took advantage Shane and Jeffree were already dealing with their problems back then and pushed her blame on them.

My boyfriend was literally coming back from a 3 day mountain climb he had climbed when he learned about bye sister . Our friends were talking about it in the car and none of us can mention Tati or James without he ranting for at least a minute about how it ruined the drive down the mountain. I remember we’re I was when it dropped up nothing will top that story in my opinion.
I genuinely think that this whole scandal will be considered an important historical event in terms of social media, cancellations, pr, and so much more. Like the internet in many ways can be viewed in pre and post bye sister world it’s that impactful

Tati's video was the catalyst to all of this while Jeffree starts pulling the strings in the background, using his then newly formed relationship with Shane. Looking back, hindsight is definitely 20/20.
Not justifying Tati's behavior, but JS and Shane totally manipulated her to leverage themselves and their career. I believe it to be largely calculated by those two men. They saw an opportunity and took it. She shouldn't have fallen for it and she should have handled it WAY better. But, seriously, they knew what they were doing and they used Tati to do it.

@@carolferreira705 I don't think Jefree Star and Shane were after JC personally. And I don't think it was super calculated. I think Tati told them she was mad and then they saw the opportunity to stir the pot because they were working on that series with JS and this would be great added content. I also don't think it was 100% intentional. I think Shane and JS have been involved in drama for so long that it's almost instinct at this point.
That said, Tati knew better and to put any blame on them was a poor choice. She can make her own decisions. She shouldn't have made a video while she was still heated. The fault is her own. But, I do see JS and Shane seeing the potential benefit for themselves during this whole chaotic mess.

I think another important point is that James *specifically* told SugarBear Hair that he would not promote their regular hairgrowth multivitamins in exchange for the Coachella tickets. He made sure to only promote the melatonin sleep vitamins which you actually CAN take along with any other hair vitamin/multivitamin(s) and doesn’t conflict bc or compete at all with anything in Tati’s brand. Obviously it still shined a huge spotlight on the brand that was her biggest competition and obviously we can all see how that would hurt coming from a close friend, but he did make an attempt to try to make everyone happy. Might be a small detail but it does like some holes in Tati’s reasoning for being upset and trying to saying it’s “different than having multiple makeup items,” etc, and it shows that even though James is young and maybe the decision to trade a friend’s potential feelings for some VIP tickets wasn’t the most mature, he at least was trying to be somewhat considerate of her. Not a fan of either of them and I think no one came out of this smelling like a rose, but I feel like this is a worthy point to bring up. 🤷🏼♀️

I remember exactly where I was when bye sister came out. I was in my bed about to go to sleep for work the next day, 9 months pregnant with my daughter. The next day, I was updating the middle aged women in the office about the drama. The GRIP this had on 19 year old me and the 45 year olds in my office job🤣
Tati was also talking to HFTT behind the scenes before she posted her Bye sister video. HFTT uploaded her video about Tati’s video literally 4 minutes after Tati. I remember this VIVIDLY! I talked to Sam about it but of course she denied it, I had the screen shot but let it go because HFTT is (was) one of my favs ❤️
I also literally remember where I was when that video dropped (It was a sunny day, I got the notification while putting my makeup on at my graduate school desk before a big presentation) I gasped out loud and listened in disbelief while I got ready.
I think it's so weird that JC did so many bad things, including what Tati herself witnessed, but the Vitamins were the last straw.

I couldn’t imagine being “disgusted” that a millionaire did a quick ad for a company other than his mentor’s, who is an insanely wealthy, fully grown woman. And the fact that she posted a video bawling about it warrants intensive therapy and self-reflection. I also can’t fathom getting offended and enraged at the price someone sets for tickets. Just don’t buy them. Just like when artists make art or creators make “personal” videos, some might sell one for $5, but some might sell one for $200 and people would say “yesss know your worth, if they don’t like it they don’t have to buy it.”

I've always thought that Tati was upset because James told her he wouldn't promote Halo Beauty because he didn't want to promote vitamins to his young audience but then went and promoted SBH. And I think that's valid to be upset about, however, I never stopped to think that she wanted him to promote Halo for free whereas SBH was willing to pay him.
It seems to me that James didn't care about promoting vitamins to his young audience, he just wanted to get paid. Again, a valid position to take. But he also didn't want to tell Tati that because they were friends.
As you said, when you start muddying friendship and business, bad things can happen.
What everyone keeps forgetting is that James didn‘t publicly say a word about Halo Beauty until all of this and explained it to Tati by claiming he wasn‘t comfortable endorsing vitamins to his underage fanbase. + they weren’t just friends, the Westbrooks mentored James and taught him how to monetize videos etc. That‘s why it stung so much when he promoted what are basicslly sleeping pills to his children viewers
I also think promoting sleeping pills is was more dangerous to put out there to an audience that's mostly made up of minors than hair and skin vitamins. Not that either may be appropriate, but JC's values were monetary valued, that's evident.
And in his sponsored post, James implied that the vitamins help with anxiety, which is not evidence based. Very irresponsible to suggest to a young audience!

I remember when "Bye sister" was posted. I'm from Venezuela, and that year we had some horrible nation wide black outs that lasted for days (the first one lasted 5 days, then two weeks later another one that lasted almost 9 days, and so on). After that, in my state, we would have only 12hrs DAILY of electricity (ah, the perks of socialism), so from 2pm to 8pm we had electricity, then six hours without it, and then electricity again from 2am to 8am, and so on. I had no electricity when this all happened, so I used my mobile data to watch the whole +40min video, it was WILD.
