It would be cool to do a “Where are they now?” Series with brands. Like Lorac, Stila, UD, Nars. Brands that used to be much bigger but have fallen off in popularity or shut down entirely.
Hot take: the cult like following that Anastasia Beverly Hills has caused a “collectors mentality” for all the palettes and heavily influencing the collecting of makeup from other brands
I wouldn't say ABH is responsible for that... MAC was doing long before ABH came on to the scene, and ColourPop came out of the gate doing it... If anything, ABH had to keep up.
xamyx I only say ABH because I came into makeup right when the liquid lipsticks released and they were all the rage. I missed the hay day of Mac. I feel like colourpop leaned that way around 2017/2018
@@KariTalks When ColourPop launched, it was back-to-back LE collections, and because the company had very little overhead, they could keep prices low, which excited people. It also meant that one could by an entire collection for the cost of one palette from another brand, and consumers were excited for the next release. As a result, other brands have had to keep up, especially those who rely on Social Media for promotion. Given how products cycle in & out, brands like ABH had to continue to release new things, or risk being buried by ColourPop collections. Estee Lauder was actually the first brand to play the LE game. I'm old enough to remember brands, overall, relied on Seasonal collections, and a solid core of permanent products...
i don’t really think it was ABH, i mean i’ve collected things before i ever liked makeup and makeup is just an example of something people collect im sure people who like to collect have done it for forever
I think the fact that Jeffrey Stars doesn't portray himself as a nice person unlike every influencers helped him a lot. Because people felt like he was probably the least fake person. He was clearly egocentric, unapologetic and just a not very nice person. Other influencers who messed up fell harder because they were thought to be the kindest, only for people to realize they were human with flaws too. You don't expect a bad person to do good things so the impact of the bad things are lessened when compared to those in which we expected so much more of.
I respect people who own up to who they are. People are so used to Fake people that they never realize when someone is telling them exactly who they truly are, then they’re constantly surprised.
Interesting you use the word "nice." I wouldn't call Jeffrey "nice" but I happen to think he's a good person. He's outspoken, he makes mistakes, he's a little too hair-trigger in his responses... but I believe he has a good heart. I've seen him consistently do good things for people. He relates well to the underdog. I think he's good to his staff if they're good to him. And also - he's a fucking iNCREDIBLY hard worker! i put a lot of respect on that. So ya... it's complex, but i"m not anti-J. Not that simple.
This exactly! Back when I used to watch him, I always admired that he wasn't afraid to just go in on brands when they messed up and was never too "professional" like other BGs. At the time, that was authenticity to me bc it seemed like other BGs would be nice to avoid being kicked off PR (i.e. nicole concillio)
I think the 10-15 minute video is kinda dead since it has the connotation of being less polished, lacking in research and not covering the subject matter well enough, on top of being primarily used by clickbait media companies who pretty much only create content for the adsense
honestly the orgy palette also did poorly because it lacked everything that he boasts about himself. 1) no cool packaging 2) no cool color concepts 3) no cool formulas Edited to add: this is also his most expensive palette.
honestly like if the orgy and cremated palettes had the same cool packaging like blood sugar and blue blood they’d look SICKENING!!!! like making the cremated palette look like a marble urn???? idk something else cool for the neutral palette? I’d love it. still wouldn’t buy it though because J* is trash but I’d love it.
4) Redundant separate plaette for the glitters, like why? If he put those shades into the bigger one, then it would've looked more interesting than it does. I've seen both the big Orgy and the mini in real life and only the mini was interesting, but kind of waste because why should anyone want just glitters without mattes? Why didn't he do the same thing with Orgy like with his other palettes? He probably had a sugar rush or something while he was planning these palettes, so random. I wouldn't buy then nonetheless, even if he made them more interesting in colour scheme or with the packaging. 5) Disastrous naming. Want your product be sellable - name it properly. Orgy is a word that is deffinetly going to be cencored in social media, especially here, so why do this and shoot yourself in the foot? Oh, for controversy's sake.
not to mention the theme! I don't consider myself a super prudish person... but a lot of JS fans are on the younger side. No one's mom is gonna buy their teenage daughter/son a palette called "orgy" with pictures of naked bodies on the front. I think its an example of when his desire to push the envelope kind of backfired into being too vulgar
The packaging for both this palette and the cremated palette were very unpleasing to the eyes. I think that a regular cardboard palette would be fine but for both designs I feel like the outer name was too in your face and not aesthetically pleasing at all. The background was white for cremated, which with the inside of the palette being white too, I think I didn’t tie into the colors as well. The little characters on the o*gy palette honestly looked not so great in my opinion for a brand that has had simple and sleek designs in the past. Changing it up isn’t bad but these two palettes did not hold up at all. I mean I don’t like the brand anyways but if jeffy is going to place himself on such a high pedestal he needs to raise the bar with his packaging.
@@cowinafield6282 Yes! and sometimes he gets creative with it, but in a way that is a bit too unrealistic to use. Like the purple palette had a lot of wasted space, he could have fit at least four more colors in there for the hefty pricetag. I don't have it, but it also looks like it would be hard to store with all of my other palettes being rectangles/square.
At her height, Bunny aka Graveyard girl reviewed his initial three lipsticks and it went crazy and it was big exposure for him. He even featured her RUclips review on his website at the time it came out.
The only reason his personality ever helped at all is because he's a man. He's had a problematic personality from the start. If he did any of that shit as a woman, it would have tanked the brand despite how "cool" the next palette was. This isn't just a beauty community problem, this shit happens everywhere.
Kat von d comes to mind! she was cancelled (as she should be) when her scandals came to light and not to minimize what she did but they weren't nearly as bad as everything we know jeffree has done.
Pleeeease do an evolution of SimplyNailogical! I know she's not technically a beauty youtuber and she's never really been in controversy but her story is so interesting to me
Add my vote... I came to the beauty industry via the nail niche, so I'd find this highly compelling. P.S. - I absolutely LOVE your sleeveless top! Where did you get that?
I think a general "evolution of" video for the beauty community would be really interesting! Like going from teenagers recording in their bedroom on how they do makeup vs. now full blown production and drama and less real, down-to-earth styled like before. These have been my favorite videos of yours! I love your insight and how much thought that was put into the videos.. it really shows!
I think thats a really cool idea! Also how toxic it has become and the consumerism, i actually thought i had to own hundrets of lipsticks and 20 eyeshadow palettes (yes ik there a people like that its just... thats so much money? ) i prefer spending my paycheques on other things
AnnaS yes! And the shift from a ton more drugstore brands to more luxury. I remember watching macbarbie and she’d be talking about cheap makeup and then it shifted to super expensive Sephora brands within a couple years. Like the fact that we all bought baby lips and then it’s switched glossier... huge price change
Great idea! Actually Elle Fowler (allthatsglitters21) did a video recently where she talked about her experience, it’s really interesting how she talks about the time her and her sister (juicystar07) were at the height of their popularity. It’s really fascinating to see how things have changed.
MAC is one I'd be interested to see. When I was in jr high MAC was essential for lipsticks and eyeshadows, and honestly if a store didn't exist in my mall, I would have forgotten about it years ago.
I'm still really shocked that Orgy didn't sell out, its fantastic to see that people are not buying into him anymore, I honestly didn't think it was possible.
I don’t think he Timed the launch very well during a pandemic where loads of people are losing their jobs and have no money, I think that’s made more of a difference than any controversy
The Orgy palette by itself hasn't, but the mini and the palette & mini bundle have. I really don't think people care tbh. If its good quality, a lot of people who don't like him will still buy it and just not tell anyone. People who are his fans and don't care about the shady shit he's done will still buy it.
Urban Decay would be cool because they’ve been around since the 90s and have changed so much and are still something people use and talk about. Also MAC when I started watching make up influencers back in 2009 when they were still called beauty gurus, MAC was the go to brand for them and really in general. I won’t buy MAC because they aren’t cruelty free but I think talking about the rise and fall of MAC would be cool :)
I think one big mistake was that he started to make so many pallettes - he abd people got bored of them. He could have done annual pallette lounch around same time each year, and people would've hyped weeks before launch. During rest of the year he could've sold something smaller such as hilights and lipstics, maybe annually throw some facemask or other suprise product launch on top of that.
This can be said about most brands. Too many pallets are launched by every brand every year especially brands like ColourPop. Instead there should be like a spring release and a holiday release
can we talk about how she's doing what Shane Dawson thought he was doing. he was out here like "ooh i'm a documentary filmmaker" no, SMOKEY GLOW is the documentary filmmaker, she's giving us actual facts about youtubers instead of sobstories lmao
Could you imagine if Hannah had the budget of Shane Dawson how much more amazing these could be?! Not to dismiss the greatness of this series in itself, just sayin.. she deserves it.
Another reason I'm sure people stopped buying palettes/collections is that they couldn't afford them. I don't know about y'all, but 4 solid months off work and a meh support cheque from the government does not make me want to buy a 50-80$ palette I won't wear because I'm sitting at home in my pj's 24/7 😂 But in other news, I am so glad I started watching your content. You are so compelling and it's clear you care about these topics and making good RUclips videos! 👌
thekay72, I agree, that is a big part of the Orgy palette not selling out. I am not a huge fan of Jeffree personally, but I do love his shadow formula and have really wanted a neutral palette from the brand (I am 56 so bright colors are not my thing). The timing was horrible as I just couldn’t see spending any $$ at all this year when I already had those neutral colors. 😢
I don't live in USA and cost of dollar was very high in April/May. I saw in comments that people in other countries experienced it too and didn't order from brands that they could afford last year, even with the same pay.
I think for me it's that I don't wear as much make up anymore. I sat at home for almost 5 months so if I wore make up it was always very natural. Even now that I'm out and about more I got so used to barely wearing any that I still keep it natural.I think this definitely made the make up trends go towards more natural make up like skin tints, cream products etc
Totally agree! The prices in the industry are getting out of control. Even when they try to sell it as - “oh, it’s only $2 dollars pre shadow!” Bro, that’s cute but customers can’t pay per shadow. Customers are expected to pay for the entire thing.
That sounds SO tentative (but I won’t) I mean, it has been 10 months since this video and I still try to find a dupe for the Conspiracy palette because I don’t want to support Jeremiah Starfish 😔
@@mirilovesyou2518 I have the palette, and I promise you’re not missing out. The color story is beyond confusing, I would always have to pull other palettes to try and complete a look. And I haven’t touched it in over a year! Midas Cosmetics, BH Cosmetics, and Juvia’s Place have way better prices and formulas 😊
You've proven what I've been saying for a while: JSC is the one hit wonder of the beauty community. In that, many rush to buy it, film, take pics, then promptly forget about it until the next one comes. Influencers who were buying it, many of them seemingly never used the palette again in another video, grwm, favorites and fails, etc. This was really well done. 💚💙
I feel like ABH is kind of similar. They were very popular when their releases were more hyped up rather than them coming out with so much new stuff constantly
While I partly agree with the point I think you’re trying to make, the very definition of a ONE hit wonder means that he wouldn’t have had multiple extremely successful launches over many years if that were the case
To be fair, I think his palettes were often slightly too edgy for most influencers rather than it being a quality issue. I think he was ahead of the curve of that bolder more experimental look....and then once it took off, for some reason he started putting out super plain understated pallettes lol. I did know someone who was a big fan and owned multiple pallettes. What I noticed was that they would end up panning maybe 1-3 colors, have some moderately used ones, and then like half the pallette was basically untouched. Same thing when I look at reddit or instagram and people are listing off what they used in their look: they're using 1 MAYBE 2 jeffree shades, and then everything else is different brands. And nowadays, lots of brands are offering super bold colors with high quality formulations. Except they're cheaper, smaller pallettes, not associated to a trash person....The makeup industry stepped it up right as Jeffree thought he could start coasting
I dunno, man. I genuinely love his formulas. I fucking hate him as a person, but to me his makeup is the best makeup I have ever used. It makes Urban Decay look like a drugstore brand. His eyeshadow palettes are the only ones I ever use anymore.
An Urban Decay deep dive sounds so like an interesting concept because I remember getting into makeup in the late 2000s/2010s and they had such novel products and packaging back then. Or even doing MAC, especially in the sphere of RUclips. Back in the day it was all you could see anyone using and their collaborations were all people could talk about.
Disclaimer: I am not a Jeffree Star fan. Unpopular Opinion: I don't agree with a lot of the criticism regarding Jeffree's Cremated palette. We know that it takes months and months to produce makeup and all of the palettes were already ordered by the time the pandemic hit. I don't think him releasing the palette in the time that he did was him being insensitive, but rather bad timing and not wanting to lose the millions of dollars he already invested into that project. If anything, he should be getting more criticism about the ashy shades and not necessarily the theme.
There's also the rumor that it was ripping off the Grimoire palette from the indie brand VE Cosmetics. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I believe it, but Mumma Goth did a review where she compared the two and they do seem eerily similar. Not saying he's not allowed to make a gray palatte or else he's automatically ripping off someone else, there's no new idea under the sun. But the colors, theming and timing were pretty close
@@Mataylor17 Please stop. No one "loves" to slam others. No one is just spending time on the internet drumming up silly reasons to attack someone. Are some people quick to jump on a bandwagon or feel offended? Yes. But loving slamming people? That's a reach.
All his 2020 launches have really missed the mark. They have all been a darker and more adult theme which is a detour from his themes in the past which have been very theatrical. The cremated and or*y palette in particular kind of lost that fantasy and colorful touch that the brand was built on. And obviously his decline as a public figure really put the final nail in the coffin.
I think it's because he realized that he lost a huge portion of his younger fanbase and even their parents heard about all his dramas and cancellation so he's focusing on marketing to adults because they don't need to ask anyone to spend their own money. But who wants to be asked what makeup their are wearing and admit it's called O*gy.... so only his stans are interested in his new products.
@@alligatorjonesphd He actually still has his younger fanbases, and they've been the biggest crutch to his brand. I think I saw somewhere, probably trendmood or something, that they wanted to buy the OG palette but their parents didn't allow it because of the tacky packaging and the price.
@@astamanista9447 Right, I'm sure he still does have a LOT of young fans still, but he had to have known it would be a tough sell for their parents but he went with the idea anyways.
@@alligatorjonesphd Actually, some people speculated the palette was made right after his Conspiracy collab with Shane. If it was true, he was probably in a mindset that he was so indestructible behind the "Empath"'s protection that anything he released would be a hit. And then the whole fiasco happened and his popularity take a public nosedive... Coupled with the current situation and his inflating the price, the palette unsurprisingly flopped.
I was wondering if you'll ever do a video talking about the underlying misogyny that exists within the beauty community. Not only within beauty influencers but the audience as well. You made a point with Jaclyn Hill. She got so much shit for it yet when a man does it, it isn't as controversial. Also how the top earners/influencers are men. Yet women in beauty strive for equality i.e., men being involved. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
This is also why I think Kat Von D wasn't able to bounce back. Like I hate them both, but she definitely got more and quicker consequences because she's a woman.
I would LOVE this! The fact that male beauty influencers can literally be almost at a million subs within a YEAR while female beauty influencers push much, MUCH harder... yes!
I still love & use Makeup Geek. Her matte eyeshadow formula is awesome! But her dive into speaking about politics will keep me from re-purchasing. Will use ColourPop instead!
@@cavlizzy I have a couple I really like, but I stuck them in a large z palette so now it’s just taking up space. I live in the U.K. and I found it really hard to find where I could buy them from now (so I couldn’t buy more to make the z palette space worth it)
"For whatever reason, he can get away with it." The reason is misogyny, he gets away with a ton of shit because even though women make up the major percentage of those who are buying makeup and who are directly marketed towards, the makeup industry and the fashion industry is misogynistic at its core. It's why female influencers can't get away with or are criticised more for the same behavior male influencers are, and why female influencers have to deal with a ton of ageism. Male influencers also don't have to answer for their looks the same way female influencers do, or are criticized in the same way or for the same things. It's misogyny.
Hannieah to add to that, I think also a lot of (straight) women look at him as like their “gay best friend” and therefore it’s ok if he makes rude remarks etc bc “he’s just like that”. Whereas if a straight man said the same thing they would be up in arms. Multi layer misogyny I guess haha
Na'estse thats exactly what i was going to say. he has the privilege of being a white man and young straight girls like the idea of having an eccentric gay best friend so they project that onto him and when he does something wrong it’s hard for them to see how wrong it is bc they think of it like going against their friend - and i think he knows this and absolutely uses it to his advantage
"Let me know if you want more of these evolution videos on makeup brands" Hannah let's be completely real with each other, you KNOW we'll take as many of these videos as you'll give us
He should have called the palette 'deceased' and it wouldn't have been received so negatively. Also, the colours were terrible. A grey palette??? I also think the Orgy palette could have been a part of the blood sugar series, with less shades, and been more successful.
Or even something like Ashes to Ashes or Rise from the Ashes and made the packaging allude to fire and new beginnings. Hell he could have called it Dust Bunny and it probably would have been fine. People like bunnies, and bunnies are inexorably linked to sexiness thanks to Playboy. And it doesn’t have any links to death or fire.
Yes. Although I think grey palette was good move, It should have less shades. Orgy could be actually I think more digestible too if it was divided in volumes. Like 2 or 3 part palette.
I feel like the name of the Orgy palette also didn't help. Yeah, it's on brand for him, but who's gonna be comfortable casually talking about it? I know I wouldn't.
Any feelings towards Jeffree aside, the truth is that his brand used to be interesting, innovative and not something we have seen a hundred times. While JSC launched things like blood sugar, the market was flooded with neutrals. But after the conspiracy launch it has been going downhill creatively. The last two palettes have been a joke - 60$ for 5 shades multiplied a few times...
Tbh i had no issue with the fact that the cremated palette was about death - I honestly wouldn’t have connected it to the pandemic if nobody else did, I just assumed it took a year or 2 to make and it was just a coincidence. My issue was that like all the colors are the same. Most of them have a very similar shade within the same palette, which is... very stupid
It’s my favorite pallete I only wear silver and grey so the multiple shades that were close together is amazing!! I guess it depends what your preference is
For me it's my favourite palette. I love grey/silver with my brown eyes and honestly all the colours are so nice. Though some might be a little tooooo ashy. Too dead to be wearable 😂 but I make it work if I mix it with a warmer one.
I actually did not know Jeffree did have an initial investor after all and owns half the brand. That completely changes my opinion. I swear he made it seem like bc Kat von d chose not to invest he had put all his last dollars into the brand taking a leap of faith. The reason this annoys me bc it’s manipulative af. (Not that I’m surprised coming from him) but still...he made it seem like she screwed him over, got his hopes up and left him, had nothing left but his faith and last dollars and flourished on his own with no help. Maybe I misunderstood and am a complete idiot but did anyone else think this ??
No. He definitely tried playing it off like he had absolutely no help and used all of his last dollars on the company, when he DEFINITELY had help from Kat. Tbh he’s probably trying to pretend like she never existed so he’s trying to pretend she never helped him 💀💀 At least that’s how it looks to me.
Its the open secret about his rags-to-riches brand creation story. Jaffy Juck has created a mythical world and hung a neat success narrative on it, as part of his brand. He should write novels, with all that world-building skill ..
@@FaerieMxxn LOL and yet he continually drags literally everyone that he used to associate with because he did so much to "help them" and they were so ungrateful to him, shocking.
The reason Jeffree has been able to come back time and time again as opposed to KVD, Tati or Jaclyn is not only because of the reasons you said but also because of misogyny. Men are often able to pass by on controversy as opposed to female counterparts.
There are people that are literally obsessed with having every single mirror, lipstick color (with each variation of the packaging), and each wearable (shirts, pants, bags, etc.) .... those addicts/collectors have made him millions upon millions.... and they kinda unconsciously can't afford for him to fail so they fight back at any time a cancellation was ever attempted on him/his brand. I mean people are so obsessed that one type of mirror that was limited edition and can't be purchased now, those people would pay like 200-300 dollars for that 20-25 dollar mirror. It's insane. Now, I think he's just focused on mass-producing to the tune of too many SKUs, too many produced of each SKU, and is now having quality issues.
I remember J* did a video where he was going down his tag on tiktok and the collections some people were showing off were fucking insane. And I know people who are hard core collectors will go hard on whatever they collect but I just thought it was insane how much they alone had given him financially
oo oo I collect makeup and mirrors. If you can afford it it’s not a big deal. I can do it doesn’t harm anyone. But it’s the people who can’t that is the problem. We all like what we like. People can collect paintings and video games and I have never seen people complain about how much they are spending.
as someone who has been aware of jeffree since like...2009 or something, it was actually kind of shocking to watch him build such a massive brand knowing the kind of person he was and seeing no real signs that he'd actually changed. i agree with nearly everything you said here hannah, especially with regards to people being more comfortable passing on his products now that they're not as "revolutionary" but i also think the reason kat and jeffree got such different reactions is also because jeffree is a man and men do get passes way more often than women do. not to say that people should've supported kat during her scandal, but the double standards are very stark. as for other brands, i'd love to know what the hell is going on with lime crime, i keep hearing mixed things about whether doe deere is still involved or not. too faced would be another interesting one too, i think they definitely have a LOT of ups and downs as a brand.
I used to watch loads of aus/nz RUclipsrs back in the day and it seemed like they all used lime crime. They stopped using it after a controversy but I never cared enough to find it,but I'd love to see a vid by Hannah.
@@madsc5648 i heard she stepped down as like the ceo or something but was still involved in the board or behind the scenes but don't quote me on it, i have no idea.
Reminds me of Harvey Weinstein: while he was producing good movies, no one stood up to him even thought everybody knew, then he had a couple flops, and THEN the scandal blew up, because it was easier for every one in the industy to drop him and talk about the horrors he did. Same for J* : while he was putting out good products, people were willing to overlook the problematic behaviour, the minute the quality/creativity of the brand droped...
especially because hiring in the film industry is so influenced by word of mouth. speaking out against weinstein got you blacklisted for a very long time.
I’d love to see a video like this on KVD Vegan Beauty! I think that would be really interesting, especially because people may not know a lot about the early history of the brand pre-“cancellation”
Right! Whatever happened to that contest they had a couple years back that they never picked a winner or talked about it after they got what they wanted haha
When the orgy pallet came out, I liked the color story and I'm not invested in the sister drama. But I couldn't get past the orgy name, I would feel so uncomfortable if my mom or grandma saw me walk around with something that said orgy on the front.
I know I’m aging myself but I think it would be interesting to do the history of Avon and it’s downfall. I mean it used to be so big that it even impacted pop culture!
I think the people who bought orgy were thinking "We still buy everything he puts out just because it's Jeffree....right guys?" And now they're realizing that's not what people do anymore
The Alien palette should have been his green palette since he was going with the monochromatic theme. Should have been a hard lockbox like the Blood palettes just green packaging and green matte and shimmers. Would have been groundbreaking honestly
Other people: "I don't really like that but I'm still gonna buy it because it's Jeffree Star" Me: "Ooh I really like that but I'm not gonna buy it because it's Jeffree Star"
Yep, that's me as well. I use to buy JSC until I opened my eyes and accepted that he's going to be a problematic egomaniac no matter what his excuses are.
I honestly feel like men in makeup are given more slack than women when it comes to controversy, given the anecdotal evidence we have. As you pointed out, Jaclyn gets raked over the coals _every time_ something bad happens. (not saying she doesn’t deserve actual criticism, she does) When the Manny/Laura/Gabriel/Nikita ship sank, it really felt like the only person who never got a life vest was Laura Lee, despite Gabriel saying she was a good person deep down. Kat Von D had to give up her brand for her terrible comments, but jeffree is still doing fine monetarily. Again, not saying anyone shouldn’t be criticized, but I do wish people would at least keep that same energy across the board.
Agreed!! Also how people are dragging tati over her age (she did mess up yes but in a way she was also a victim) as if you cant be manipulated once youre over 30
oh 100000x yes. just look at the difference between manny and lauras comebacks. laura is MIA and manny is actually doing pretty well and gaining subs. crazy to think about.
2015 - dark purple called abused. Classy. He's always been a bellend. He's still a small to medium company - making $100 million annually when the big companies are in the billions. Charlotte Tilbury, who came from a MUA background makes about $185 million annually.
So glad I found your comment!!! Seen it, had a wee knee jerk reaction as my bruises were that colour many times due to being abused…. Then I questioned myself…”see he was right, you do get upset over the smallest things” Then I seen this….. thanks :) the validation in other people noticing how distasteful it was? Thank goodness :)
Just a little correction: Kylie Cosmetics launched in November, 2015 under the name "Lipkit by Kylie", almost a year after JSC The thing is Kylie popularized the big lips trend in 2014 with the whole story about "over lining and filling in with liquid lipstick" (we knew she had got lip fillers back then, but that was the story she sold everyone), so JSC launched in a pretty convenient time to catch the trend and expand it Really nice in depth video! It would be very cool to watch videos like this for other brands as well!
Imma be honest I laughed so hard when she tried to say her lips grew from over lining them. It was such a drastic difference. Like girl there is nothing wrong with lip fillers why lie about it?
@@aleerasilver2821 I know!! She eventually told the truth but Kylie and her mom probably got afraid of the backlash because admitting she got lip fillers at the age of 16 (in that time) could represent a bad influence for her younger audience Not gonna lie, at first I believed it was just over lining because I knew drag queens could enhance their lips just with makeup, but when pics of Kylie without makeup started sprinkling in and her lips were just as big... oh yeah, she definitely had done something more than lip liner and lipstick 😂 But it was funny to see her in every interview claiming she used 6 or 7 different shades of lip liner to achieve those lips
I think doing Loreal would be interesting. To see how they became SO huge, and acquired all of the companies under them, although this could potentially fill up HOURS of content.
Also, naming the pallet orgy was supposed to attract attention because the pallet itself is quite forgetable. But influencers were not too happy to promote it because 1) controversies around JS 2) fear of being demonetized for saying the shade names. And the MUAs don't really want to use it on the clients either. Imagine them saying to customer "let me put some booby trap in the inner corner" 😀
Re: the KVD situation leading to JS's first brand problems. I think this was also a time where he had that king tut highlighter drama. A customer showed a broken king tut product and JS basically called them a liar (among other things) and overall was incredibly unprofessional. This paired with KVD calling him out was a very cool recipe for customers and influencers to stop supporting the company... obviously things changed and he was forgiven for all wrongdoing :/ big yuck
I am loving this deep dive series! A suggested future topic: Eugenia Cooney. In light of the recent scandals with her discord, overall reevaluations of Shane’s documentaries on YTers, and the course of her recovery/relapse in the last year, I’d be really interested in your perspective on her and what her popularity on the platform tells us about YT. Regardless, LOVING these “YTer history” type videos!! Thank you for all the hard work that I’m sure goes into them
I think if anyone were gonna do it, Hannah would be the perfect one. She’s poised, understands mental health, and wouldn’t be too harsh but would make sure to look at things in a critical lens. This would be perfect.
if your doing brand analysis videos, i recommend colourpop, because i remember when they first started and kathleenlights was promoting them with her lumiere lipstick, and now they’re at the point where they release new collections weekly and i’m baffled at how they got there
did or didn't jeffree and manny steal the holographic packaging reminds me of something drew gooden said in a video (sorry its midnight and i don't feel like finding exactly which one it is) where he does a guitar riff and then realizes it sounds similar to a favorite song of his, and is sad about that because he doesn't feel as creative, then feels better because humans are an amalgamation of all the quotes, books, art, and people we've stumbled across in life that being said because i know who jeffree is as a person i wouldn't be surprised if he straight up stole someones design
I am kind of happy that i live in a small country in Europe because a lot of these influencer brands aren't widely available to us so you can't make a spontaneous purchase from brands like JSC etc just because you want it or you're a fan of them in that moment. Also in time you are super grateful that you didn't spend your childhood purchasing any dumb youtuber books or eyeshadow pallettes when you were 12
Tbh unless you’re upper middle class or higher, I don’t think you can accidentally buy them spontaneously. Lol it’s not like they sell at Walmart or target. I guess unless you’re in a fancy mall with a Ulta Beauty or something, that wouldn’t really be an issue.
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdle by spontaneous i meant more like a child’s spontaneous need for a new toy/book/makeup, whatever and the relentless begging to parents for it but then later regretting that purchase
Hannah is doing what Shane thinks he did with his documentaries. His documentaries were so surface level and i could never watch no more than 20 minutes of each.
To me it was the editing and the stories were so dragged out i felt like, and I thought it was weird contrasting pizza with sex trafficking over and over again? Lol. It's good editing and you can tell he put work into it or whatever but it's overdone to me. He could've sat down for 20 minutes and talked about it all and it would've been better.. Unfortunately I don't watch his videos anymore lol.
Jefree star has branded himself as someone who is “outspoken”. When in reality he is just a horrible person. But this branding give him the leeway to say and do such horrible things.
@@imamermaid5642 we're not reflecting, is looking at what he does, if you just want to support a racist bully do it without trying to gaslighting people who actually have morals
I think why he could get away with being awful to even his customers for so long while other influencers like Jaclyn Hill could never is partly echoing what you talked about with Tana Mongeau. He never held himself to a high standard while others like Jaclyn Hill did. His behavior finally reached a point of unacceptable. Mouthing off is expected. Racism, potentially protecting abusers, or allegedly blackmailing people is too far. Edit: KVD was/is also anti Semitic, and the fact that wasn’t part of her brand down fall is so weird and a huge problem
she’s also married to a Nazi/white supremacist. There’s this story about him, Ready to Glare did a video on it, where he basically blamed his daughter for getting raped by one of his friends, he literally described it as a “betrayal” and it’s why he doesn’t have a relationship with her. So the fact Kat married someone like that on top of having a baby with him, on top the anti vax stuff plus her being anti semetic was a huge part in her downfall, plus it was just hypocritical of her to point out Jeffree’s racist past while also being racist as well as being married to a racist rape apologist
You're actually talking about her ex-husband, but it doesn't change the fact she was married to that waste of oxygen! Man, I'd forgotten how incredibly problematic KVD is!
@@perho the Neo Nazis was an ex-fiancé, the current husband is the one that said the vile shit about his daughter and is her child's father. He has a Swastika tattoo on his neck but says it's in the buddhist context. But that's hella sus when you're married to a known anti-semite. 😬
@Ivoire Punk OMG! You're absolutely right! So I looked him up and got this interview where they make him look like the victim: “This album was me finding a way to cope with the things that were happening with my life at that moment,” he said, referring to, among other things, an estrangement from his now 21-year-old daughter that still stings." And THEN you go and find out his daughter was just 16 at the time!! 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 I'm dead! Ew, ew, ew!! KVD's just as disguting as this waste of space!
I love how you are taking such an analytical approach on the evolution of someone and something in a world that doesn't seem to appreciate logical thought processes and analyzing cause and effect. Please continue with this, it's awesome!
I think Jeffree won't put distance between himself and the brand because he's a narcissist. He loves having his own brand with his name on it that sells out in hours or even minutes. He loves having millions of people own products with his name on them. Jeffree loves the attention more than anything. Thing is though, when the attention's all on you, some people are gonna look at what you left behind. That's how a king becomes a clown.
he's not the ceo of his own brand. If it honestly goes too far, the actual ceo/board or whatever can boot him out. JS is like the "founder" but he needed an investor which if I'm remembering right is the current CEO
I think in general when you get popular people are gonna dig in your past which isn’t always a good thing consider you aren’t that person anymore but people make it out to be.

I became irrationally upset at the part where the indie brand's packaging was ripped off. It's one thing to look at pictures and rip off a design, but a whole other thing when you REACH OUT TO THE COMPANY under the pretense that you like their product. I see it time and time again in the lingerie industry. Small brands come out with something awesome (an extensive line of skin-like colors, a unique design feature, spot-on inclusive sizes) and creative directors from big companies (COUGH Victoria's Secret) make a huge purchase and next season have their own line of unique designs or inclusive sizes and colors. It infuriates me to no end when larger companies and influencers don't even try to hide the fact they are copying designs.
I didnt know that many and laura lee stood up for him when he was recieving all that backlash... the saddest bit though is that he turned on them so hard and really damaged their career....
He may not have stuck up for them, but saying he turned on them & damaged their career is not quite true. That infamous picture that they all took flipping the middle finger is what started the 1st dramageddon,& it exposed them for being hypocrites.
@@zeej80 true... but then again the ones that digged up the dirt were his stans and I think I remember jeffree actively encouraging his stans to attack the 4 of them with that one snap chat of him crying because he felt "betrayed." Whereas when manny and Laura lee were defending jeffree they took their own followers heat in support of Jeffree and his company. From a P.R. standpoint, supporting a person who's is coming under fire for racism isnt a beneficial strategy, but they still supported him. We also have to keep in mind that there was a reason for them to post that photo. What that reason was i dont know or remember but with all the dirt that's come out on Jeffrey recently.... I think that the reason they had for posting that image possibly was a legitimate one. He may not have directly turned on them but by not controlling his stans and by appealing to them emotionally with that snapchat it he indirectly turned on them and he used his stans to do the dirty work. And the current information that's come out on jeffree supports that
No mention of Morphe dropping him. That's why Orgy didn't sell out. There was also problems with the Orgy mini, but he sent out an email that he was replacing it.
Morphe is also problematic too I remember back in 2015 I watch someone documentary about how they started to being a shady scam makeup lesson to who they are now private label.
I recently got my new mini orgy … no difference. But I didn’t think the first one was bad, but wasn’t going to say no to a new free palette and was curious what the difference was
Every time I see photos of the orgy palette I can't believe how many of those shades look exactly the same. Like in person I'm sure in the pan or in a swatch there would be subtle differences but once applied to the eye there's no way you'd be able to tell if you used shadow a vs shadow b
@Kim With his prices, I imagine a lot of younger fans have to beg and plead really hard and for a long time for their parents to get them a JS palette for their birthday or Christmas. Imagine being a minor too young to get a job and trying to convince your parents to buy you a palette called "Orgy"...
I'm sure this was hard af considering the drama (which Lord knows there's a lot of haha) but I think you did a GREAT job with this video! I learned a lot and you stringed together action and consequence and image really well. Excited to see more of these for other brands!
I'm not a JS hater but I'm also far from a fan. So, I'm a little alarmed at how much of this information I knew. lol. I used to follow a lot of drama channels so I guess thats how I kept up with everything despite never being subscribed to him. And I think drama channels also helped keep the brand relevant.
Yes!!! Specially when he was tipping them information or buying them expensive gifts and sending them PR. He thrived from drama and maybe Hannah overlooked that aspect because theres a loooooot going on
@@j2l3e433 purely because I don't care enough about him to hate him. The best best way to punish someone who craves attention at all costs (like he does) is to ignore them. And also not buy their stuff.
milaya, I think, in this case, you speak louder with your actions than your words. Words can be cheap, and don’t always have the intended affect. In my opinion, if you don’t agree with somebody, don’t buy their stuff, don’t subscribe, etc. You affect somebody more by NOT talking about them than by spreading “hate” about them on the internet, where they still kind of profit off of it. Just my two cents.
Battychick189 I agree, the best example I can think of other than Jeffree is Kaitlin Bennett . They stay relevant because people love making fun/hating on them. If we just let it go and stopped paying attention they wouldn’t be talked about as much anymore and no one would care what they had to say. I like Jeffree as a person more than Kaitlin but they both thrive/feed off negativity
I think it was actually Colourpop who did the whole PR box thing first. I think it was the butterfly collection but i could be wrong. I know another brand did it before Jeffree Star though
This is a topic I would never think I'd want to know about, until I saw your thumbnail and thought "y'know, I'd like to know about that." Very informative.
I know it’s not RUclips or influencer related, but since you have a degree in social work I’d love to hear your opinion on Netflix and the Cuties movie
I'm sorry if this is kinda besides the topic, but my problem is: what make-up palette DO I buy? I kinda want to get into make-up and I don't want to waste my money on something that's garbage or will leave a bad taste in my mouth from all the controversy. What is a good make-up palette for someone who's just getting into make-up that won't make you feel bad about supporting?
Omfg please do Kat von D and the demise of her brand if you’re going to keep doing makeup brands!! I absolutely adore your videos and I love how articulate you are. You’re an incredibly intelligent lady. Keep up the good work ❤️
Man, I remember that video where Jkissa was in his video and it was such a calm little lip swatch video and Jeff still has that masculine looking face, he hasn't made any changes yet. I also remember him swatching his lip products along with his music producer and with Nikita Dragun, each their own video. Sigh, 2015 was such a different time like it can't have been just a few years ago.....
I would have loved to hear more about how heavily involved JSC was with Morphe, and how this last scandal led to Morphe dropping JSC. I wonder if that will play a role in the future of JSC?
Andrea Melendez Majin I think it will. He is now online only. No chance of random people running into Morphe and coming across his make up. If you see him online you can see the Tea.
im pretty sure he had shares in morphe and just took them and seperated himself from the company hes a multi-millionaire now i feeel like itll be just like it was with his music career fans and the cult following will still continue to buy his products regardless and he has himself dabbled in other business investments so i honestly hes established monetary continuity at this point and doesnt need them anymore tbh he has other loyal interenational vendors
That was a website. Also did you know Nazi was used as a derogatory term towards the SS party? It came from a word that basically meant “imbecile”. I don’t understand why we’ve moved away from insulting people with that term.
NoaTugy Does it tho? I’ve watched documentaries and I’ve never heard any survivor say anything of the sort. In fact “nazi” was their way of calling the ss agents idiots.
You're joking right? Ever since his "apology" he has been posting waaaaay more on social media! He can't help it! To me it felt like he put out the "apology" video to get it over with, just so he could come back to social media. And ever since then, his posts have become more and more provocative, sexual and suggestive. He can't move away from the spotlight! Jeffree Star Cosmetics IS Jeffree Star. However, did anyone notice that he calls himself Jeffree Lynn a lot more lately? Maybe that's a way to separate his persona from the brand...
I'm of the opinion that even though the cremated pallete is in poor taste, it should have been sold so that it wouldn't become waste. However, I think that he should have either lowered the price or given the proceeds to coronavirus funds or even both.
If we look at his new multi-million dollar home and numerous luxury vehicles... Heck yes he can afford the hit. Yet he still applied for and was granted a PPP loan while so many other small businesses that it was intended for got the shaft. $350k- $1 million all to keep his "small business" afloat. Makes me sick.
I’m still just so shocked and confused that he named it Cremated.. during his release video he said something along the lines of I use this word all the time, my favorite word, blah blah blah.. so I thought it would be called Deceased and I think a lot of people did too.. still tacky for the time, but I think maybe people would have understood it a little more, cuz he did say it a lot.. I literally cannot recall a time he ever used the word cremated... idk I think he’s losing a grip on reality and is living in his own little privileged world.
It would be cool to do a “Where are they now?” Series with brands. Like Lorac, Stila, UD, Nars. Brands that used to be much bigger but have fallen off in popularity or shut down entirely.
Okay AGREED!! I am so nosey lmao
And makeup geek should be on the list definitely!!!
Too much mouth has a series on brands that have fallen off the radar which is super interesting
That would be so interesting!

Hot take: the cult like following that Anastasia Beverly Hills has caused a “collectors mentality” for all the palettes and heavily influencing the collecting of makeup from other brands
Hot take 2: the fall of ABH also helped killed the collectors mentality of other brands, starting as far back as the original Norvina palette
Agree 100%. He's like the Trump of the makeup world.
This is actually very interesting... I hadn't thought about it like that
I respect people who own up to who they are.
The evolution of Jaclyn Hill would be quite the rabbit hole!
ruclips.net/video/Bxr_3--xZdY/видео.html the video that here for the tea and tea spill did is really informative
Would it be tho
Nah, she has like a few products all in all. JS is so much more convoluted in all senses
I think she means the evolution of Jaclyn Hill the RUclipsr vs JH Cosmetics! 😊
Yes, indeed. She’s quite the controversial figure.
Smokey glow in her glasses, with a pen in hand, presenting facts is SUCH a MOOD. A sexy ass mood.

Whenever JS's 'music career' is referenced, I can't help but feel we're using the term 'music' a little generously.

Right? I wouldn’t really call that music (just my opinion)
Iconic 🤣
it’s music just like paris hilton’s attempt at a single was music 😂
why is this comment so funny to me 😂😂😂
Me in 2010: ugh this video is 10 minutes?

they claim our attention spans have gotten shorter but I only watch 50 minute videos now so idk
Mad Anderson mood. If it’s under 20 minutes I don’t want it
This is literally the first thing I thought when I saw the length xD
I think the 10-15 minute video is kinda dead since it has the connotation of being less polished, lacking in research and not covering the subject matter well enough, on top of being primarily used by clickbait media companies who pretty much only create content for the adsense
Yes! When someone I love does a q and a or grwm and at minute 20 ends it because they say it’s getting too long I’m like no!!
honestly the orgy palette also did poorly because it lacked everything that he boasts about himself.
1) no cool packaging
2) no cool color concepts
3) no cool formulas
Edited to add: this is also his most expensive palette.
honestly like if the orgy and cremated palettes had the same cool packaging like blood sugar and blue blood they’d look SICKENING!!!! like making the cremated palette look like a marble urn???? idk something else cool for the neutral palette?
Omg that's a blast from the past. The only reason I knew liquid lipstick was at that time was because of Bunny.
aw man i miss old bunny. i hope shes well
So basically it was his personality that made the brand, and also ended it
Hahah yeah
It's not the end for his brand
I'm pretty sure he'll bounce back if he does a good palette
Ended? He's doing fine...
suggestion: make a “the evolution of...” playlist :)

The only reason his personality ever helped at all is because he's a man. He's had a problematic personality from the start. If he did any of that shit as a woman, it would have tanked the brand despite how "cool" the next palette was. This isn't just a beauty community problem, this shit happens everywhere.

This is an incredible idea!
People/Brands I could watch you do this treatment to:
-Michelle Phan
-MAC
-Lime Crime
-Pat McGrath
-Natasha Denona
MAC is one I'd be interested to see. When I was in jr high MAC was essential for lipsticks and eyeshadows, and honestly if a store didn't exist in my mall, I would have forgotten about it years ago.
Michelle Phan !!!
Yeah! I never really understood why LC fell off and they're ignored by the public opinion
I still love MAC bullet lipstick. Best out here beside pat mcgrath
Natasha Denona yes!!
Yay!!!
I think it was the theme. The packaging and the names were kinda explicit.
A youtuber called amanda did a video about MAC, it's really cool.
Oh god, MAC is a series in itself with all the launches and collabs.
I’d love to see UD
Too Much Mouth does great videos about beauty brands, among other stuff. Check her out 🙂
They’re still not cruelty free?!? I remember buying my first “real foundation” from MAC back when that’s what everyone wanted 💀😂
Shane's 'documentaries' are just extended vlogs
I predict that Hannah's going to grow a ton more before the end of this year. I, for one, welcome our new leader
agreed!
You know a documentary doesn’t have to be facts, it’s to persuade the audience to a side. That’s the definition of a documentary, true story lol
Another reason I'm sure people stopped buying palettes/collections is that they couldn't afford them. I don't know about y'all, but 4 solid months off work and a meh support cheque from the government does not make me want to buy a 50-80$ palette I won't wear because I'm sitting at home in my pj's 24/7 😂
But in other news, I am so glad I started watching your content.
A J this is exactly my problem. Not only that, the shipping is 30$. 😬
Even when they try to sell it as - “oh, it’s only $2 dollars pre shadow!”
Bro, that’s cute but customers can’t pay per shadow. Customers are expected to pay for the entire thing.
Y’all remember how Jigglypuff Saline said that TJ Maxx is where brands go to die and now his Conspiracy palette is being sold in TJ Maxx
That is the best nickname for J* I’ve heard yet. Right up there with Jeracial Slur.

That sounds SO tentative (but I won’t) I mean, it has been 10 months since this video and I still try to find a dupe for the Conspiracy palette because I don’t want to support Jeremiah Starfish 😔
I think he also said overstocks & leftovers as well.
Wow sooo true...
This comment sent me back to a time when naked pallets and viva glam lipstick were basically status symbols
Agreed!
yeah that was brought up numerous times when the palette came out.
Yeah I wasn’t offended by the title at all. It was just a boring ass palette

YES PLEASE

This is also why I think Kat Von D wasn't able to bounce back. Like I hate them both, but she definitely got more and quicker consequences because she's a woman.

I would LOVE this! The fact that male beauty influencers can literally be almost at a million subs within a YEAR while female beauty influencers push much, MUCH harder... yes!
the evolution of makeup geek would be interesting.. i remember when their eyeshadows were all the beauty youtubers talked about!
I live in the U.K. and I found it really hard to find where I could buy them from now (so I couldn’t buy more to make the z palette space worth it)
Her factory for cream stuff screw them over they had the best idea but their revamp comeback was a flop
Iooiiioc
Agreed. With both. Very well put
Yes, it seems like men in this industry get away with so much more than women. Just think about who’s at the top. White men...
"Let me know if you want more of these evolution videos on makeup brands"
Hannah let's be completely real with each other, you KNOW we'll take as many of these videos as you'll give us
He should have called the palette 'deceased' and it wouldn't have been received so negatively.
Blood Orgy palette when?
I would have mashed the Dedeased palette and the Orgy one together and made a neutral palette with both warm and cold shades.
With not as many shades.
But.. I can't separate him as a person from his brand, and that's what he's heavily promoted.
True. There's a very fine line between Jeffree Starr the person and Jeffree Starr the brand.
Back in the day, we were ALL begging to order JSC but he didn't ship to certain countries.
Tbh i had no issue with the fact that the cremated palette was about death - I honestly wouldn’t have connected it to the pandemic if nobody else did, I just assumed it took a year or 2 to make and it was just a coincidence. My issue was that like all the colors are the same. Most of them have a very similar shade within the same palette, which is... very stupid
Same here. It was just boring
I like death themed things but it just looked stupid
I don't mind a death theme, but come on the whole palette is just plain boring
It’s my favorite pallete I only wear silver and grey so the multiple shades that were close together is amazing!! I guess it depends what your preference is
For me it's my favourite palette. I love grey/silver with my brown eyes and honestly all the colours are so nice. Though some might be a little tooooo ashy. Too dead to be wearable 😂 but I make it work if I mix it with a warmer one.
I think that's "redrum" (The Shining reference) not "red drum", lol!
Lmfaoooo that's definitely what it is.
Red drum 😭😭😭😭😂😂
yes 100% I'm sure it is lol
Yes, lol Redrum from The Shining as in Murder spelled backwards!😁😳😂
Yeah, it is. But she’s too shock value/woke to know movie culture history.
Tbh he’s probably trying to pretend like she never existed so he’s trying to pretend she never helped him 💀💀
At least that’s how it looks to me.
No that's exactly what he claimed
Wow, yeah didn't know that another person owns half of the company. Who knew!?
Honestly... why does someone need more than one mirror 😬
He's had quality issues for years, but any time anyone complained, they got bullied by his fans.
Most of it is as tacky as hell to be honest.
I think Doe Deere gave up her position in the brand and is no longer a part of it? She has a jewelry brand now I'm pretty sure

That's a more balanced argument compared to the misogyny

Urban Decay would be a really good Evolution. How they went from super hip to super dull.
When the orgy pallet came out, I liked the color story and I'm not invested in the sister drama. But I couldn't get past the orgy name, I would feel so uncomfortable if my mom or grandma saw me walk around with something that said orgy on the front.

It came to the point when I saw local retailer carrying and promoting JS, I now look at them worse. The disgust is almost tangible.

Just a little correction: Kylie Cosmetics launched in November, 2015 under the name "Lipkit by Kylie", almost a year after JSC
The thing is Kylie popularized the big lips trend in 2014 with the whole story about "over lining and filling in with liquid lipstick" (we knew she had got lip fillers back then, but that was the story she sold everyone), so JSC launched in a pretty convenient time to catch the trend and expand it
Really nice in depth video!
She eventually told the truth but Kylie and her mom probably got afraid of the backlash because admitting she got lip fillers at the age of 16 (in that time) could represent a bad influence for her younger audience
Not gonna lie, at first I believed it was just over lining because I knew drag queens could enhance their lips just with makeup, but when pics of Kylie without makeup started sprinkling in and her lips were just as big... oh yeah, she definitely had done something more than lip liner and lipstick 😂
But it was funny to see her in every interview claiming she used 6 or 7 different shades of lip liner to achieve those lips
I think doing Loreal would be interesting. To see how they became SO huge, and acquired all of the companies under them, although this could potentially fill up HOURS of content.
Our girl is going to spend a month researching😅😂
This paired with KVD calling him out was a very cool recipe for customers and influencers to stop supporting the company... obviously things changed and he was forgiven for all wrongdoing :/ big yuck

did or didn't jeffree and manny steal the holographic packaging reminds me of something drew gooden said in a video (sorry its midnight and i don't feel like finding exactly which one it is) where he does a guitar riff and then realizes it sounds similar to a favorite song of his, and is sad about that because he doesn't feel as creative, then feels better because humans are an amalgamation of all the quotes, books, art, and people we've stumbled across in life
that being said because i know who jeffree is as a person i wouldn't be surprised if he straight up stole someones design

I think in general when you get popular people are gonna dig in your past which isn’t always a good thing consider you aren’t that person anymore but people make it out to be.

fruity garlic okay 😑
the video was very well done!
dangelo wallace is def one of my favorites- his presentation is always well done
yes his video is one of the most detailed videos i have seen on jeffree
How interesting! Are you working with lingerie? I‘d love to get some recommendations for small brands 💕
I would actually LOVE an Evolution if Nikki Tutorials! Probably a lot more positive than the others lol
really loved this, it would be cool to do some controversial clothing stores like brady melville, Hollister, victoria’s secret, etc!
That’s a really fun idea!
I wonder if JSC will get taken over as he fades into the background and become Jolly Simple Cosmetics like KVD
I’m so happy you did this video because this topic is so interesting to me
I didnt know that many and laura lee stood up for him when he was recieving all that backlash... the saddest bit though is that he turned on them so hard and really damaged their career....
I didn’t know that either. I’m shocked and processing it...I knew he was evil and all business but damn..
hard same
He may not have stuck up for them, but saying he turned on them & damaged their career is not quite true.
And the current information that's come out on jeffree supports that
My favorite plot twist is the "social climber" friends Jeff had actually stuck by him when it was a risk, and kept HIM afloat.
JKissa’s husband Christian is Jeffree Star’s videographer. He is still his camera man. That’s the connection.
wait i never made that connection and now my mind is blown
I had NO idea. Wow
WHAT
Oh that’s disappointing
What??
I would LOVE to see an evolution of morphe. I feel like there's so much to talk about
No mention of Morphe dropping him. That's why Orgy didn't sell out.
There was also problems with the Orgy mini, but he sent out an email that he was replacing it.
Morphe is also problematic too I remember back in 2015 I watch someone documentary about how they started to being a shady scam makeup lesson to who they are now private label.
@clowncarfire I'm guessing Stephanie Nicole!
I found your channel yesterday and I’m OBSESSED. Your aesthetic. Your talent and skill at communicating information. I want to be you when I grow up 😭
I'm not a JS hater but I'm also far from a fan.
He thrived from drama and maybe Hannah overlooked that aspect because theres a loooooot going on
Why aren't you a JS hater tho? That's not a bad title to have...he is incredibly racist so I think it would be a fair response to hate him.
"Jeffree struggles taking criticism, particularly online and on his twitter account." You don't say XD
I feel like Lime Crime would be interesting to talk about if you do another of these!
I think it was actually Colourpop who did the whole PR box thing first. I think it was the butterfly collection but i could be wrong. I know another brand did it before Jeffree Star though
This is a topic I would never think I'd want to know about, until I saw your thumbnail and thought "y'know, I'd like to know about that." Very informative.
i think it says a lot that i didn’t even know about the orgy pallet until this video lmao
I know it’s not RUclips or influencer related, but since you have a degree in social work I’d love to hear your opinion on Netflix and the Cuties movie
Yes!!
I assume it would be a rant :)
Yess!! Great idea!!
I am currently working towards my BSW, so I’d also like to know her opinion on that SHIT
I LOVE "THE EVOLUTION OF ..... " series!!! it is FUN, eye opening, and pretty informative. I appreciate your effort and stay healthy sis
Check out colourpop! They have a lot of options, great formulas, super affordable
For me.. Go with Wet n Wild.. They are cruelty free and affordable..
Nyx is a reasonably priced brand with a good selection of products
Colourpop is a good choice. Morphe isn’t too terrible, either. It honestly depends on what your price point is. :)
BH Cosmetics!
I honestly think the mystery box thing was a lost opportunity. It could have been a HUGE success but he ruined it
Omfg please do Kat von D and the demise of her brand if you’re going to keep doing makeup brands!!
I would personally love to see the evolution of Michelle Phan, the OG beauty queen of youtube!
I'm so interested in a video on Morphe! I've only heard bits and pieces about their history, but from what I've heard, it's wild.
I'd honestly love a makeup store one. Like the evolution of sephora or ulta
I think he's opening his own store, so that's why morphe dropped him. He is becoming a competitor 😂
im pretty sure he had shares in morphe and just took them and seperated himself from the company hes a multi-millionaire now i feeel like itll be just like it was with his music career fans and the cult following will still continue to buy his products regardless and he has himself dabbled in other business investments so i honestly hes established monetary continuity at this point and doesnt need them anymore tbh he has other loyal interenational vendors
I’ve never owned a single JSC item. I don’t find any of it appealing lol.
I thought the lipsticks looked good but I couldn’t stand the pink tops
In the poetic words of two faced cosmetics ‘it is clown makeup’
you forgot to include his original makeup line was supposed to be called ‘lipstick n*zi’
it was called that....://
it just wasnt made under his brand bc it wasnt started yet
That was a website. Also did you know Nazi was used as a derogatory term towards the SS party? It came from a word that basically meant “imbecile”. I don’t understand why we’ve moved away from insulting people with that term.
@@ShanaLawson because it literally triggers Jewish people with memories they don't wanna recall?? At least not on that aspect! Be more sensitive.
NoaTugy Does it tho? I’ve watched documentaries and I’ve never heard any survivor say anything of the sort. In fact “nazi” was their way of calling the ss agents idiots.
He's lucky Courtney Love didn't come after him for "Celebrity Skin" 😬
Gods I wish she had. That would've been some wonderful drama
And “doll parts” too
Wait why?
@@irisvandenieuwegiessen5533 her band has song named celebrity skin
I think he’s said that he’s friends with her IRL in one of his tattoo videos
Your intro song: * has not lyrics at all *
Me: *still manages to sing your intro every single video *
😂
No lyrics* lol
Me too lol
My 4 year old dances and says “hi friends!”
Sameee
Me too every time!!! Lol
Maybe that's a way to separate his persona from the brand...
maikolosav it was definitely killing him not to be posting on social media. He’s a textbook narcissist.
I'm of the opinion that even though the cremated pallete is in poor taste, it should have been sold so that it wouldn't become waste. However, I think that he should have either lowered the price or given the proceeds to coronavirus funds or even both.
Definitely. People didn't understand how hurtful it was either. My dad had just died from covid and had been cremated as well as thousands of others.
