Chris Kanyon - one of the lesser discussed tragedies of pro wrestling. The irony is that he would have been an AMAZING pro wrestler to represent the gay community. In a genuine way. Remember, this was before wokeness. I understand his apprehensions. But he had so much to offer with his ideas of coming out.
@Leon Wilcox I hear ya. But if not for support from the gay community, at least he could have been a great gay character. You say 20 years ago bigots wouldn’t allow it. But 20 years ago was 2003. Goldust was around at least 8 years before that. Granted Runnels wasn’t actually gay, but did goldust not become one of the most influential villains of that time, performance wise?

I agree with you. Kanyon accused the WWE of firing him for being gay and the WWE sent John Cena (also Ric Flair) to The Howard Stern Show to say that Kanyon wasn't a good wrestler. I love Kanyon 😢 He was so awesome!!!!! He deserved so much more. LEGEND in my opinion. I wish so badly that things could have went differently for him AND Mike Awesome also. Heartbreaking. They both were fantastic
Chris Kanyon should have been in a feud with Diamond Dallas Page and it would have been awesome to see these two face off for the WCW TV Title with Kanyon even defeating Page to win his first singles title.
I can't even begin to imagine what poor Kanyon was going through all those years. Mental health, Sexuality and the toxicity of the wrestling business. That's enough to be getting on with for anyone let alone someone who was terrified of being outed for fear of being mocked and not taken seriously by his peers. Imagine having to hide your feelings for the same sex because you're scared what other people think of you? 30 years ago wasn't that long ago but it was an entirely different time. The 80s and 90s especially here in Ireland where rhe catholic church ruled with an iron fist were quite progressive than previous decades but still quite conservative compared to today. In fact in 2023 we've gone too liberal/,progressive lol
Poor man I'm falling apart right now with my mental health and I'm wat society calls normal because im straight and all. So I could not picture the pain he was in. But pain is pain
Sad story but he was talented enough. Surely better than the entire roster of current gen Pro Wrestlers. My only memory of Kanyon is obviously when he would hit the *"WHO BETTER THAN KANYON?!* & the crowd would erupt *"ANYBODY!"* (or "EVERYBODY!!") which wasn't JUST hilarious but that's a straight up Achievement Unlocked Moment. *Heel Crowd Control.* Go out to a public venue & try to get 5 or more people you don't know to say something that's only relevant to you - No Sneezing. This type of stuff isn't singing Christmas songs or clapping at the end of a movie in a theatre - It's Social Engineering. A skill that is non-existent nowadays - Yet we ponder why the Heels don't get any proper heat anymore & the Faces rarely become Household names like when Men were Men in the WWF.
That maybe true, but his demons going back to his days when he was told by a priest that his homosexuality was evil and wrong, likely would still have kept him in the closet. He would be more accepted today, but the past can be very difficult to run away from. Would he have accepted himself as a gay man? Who knows, but I’d lean towards no.
People were open minded back then. Only difference now is the Alphabet group constantly push their agenda down everyone throat and "cancel" any that don't agree. @@prize5ighterAccording to Sabu, Vince always knew that Patterson was gay because Vince is a fruitcake that likes hiring other fruitcakes. There may be some truth to that.
In hindsight I don't think it would have mattered at all. His innovation in the ring was always entertaining because he always seemed to be in the fight. In the 90s people didn't care about it as much as you would think because the community wasn't trying to force their agendas on others. They just coexisted and it worked just fine.

Somehow I get the feeling they wouldn't be slapping their foreheads in dramatic comedy if they found out a couple of the female wrestlers happened to love another woman. Likely slapping something else.

I think he was so scared of just being himself. Due to his background he expected the whole world to punish him for being gay. So any bad thing that happened to him he would have put down to him being gay
Other factors may have been the reason he got fired, but no doubt he was judged and mistreated for his sexuality. Why would they make him dress as boy george and get squashed by the undertaker

@Leon Wilcox pat Patterson was gay
Who cares about wokeness. It's not a real issue they just want representation
@@WaldoBagelTopper goldust wasn't gay and went out and said he was straight so it didn't last for long.
Too much alphabet pandering in wrestling and, just about everything else these days. I don't give a crap who you're buggering but, I shouldn't have to be forced to hear about it every damn day and, cancelled for not praising you for it. Get over your groomer selves... 🙄🤮🤮
Kanyon one of the best technical wrestlers ever.
I watched this episode and it was completely sad! I wish he would've been able to get through it.
Thought that was Bradshaw…. glad Chris got his light in this episode. He was awesome in in WWE/WCW
One of the most under appreciated guys in the game.
Something about Father Mitchell is shady. I just dont believe Kanyon always snapped for no reason, there is always 2 sides to a story and sadly we will never know Kanyons side
I think it’s to cover his ass. I’m willing to bet Mitchell teased him a bunch
Ever see what John cena said about this guy on Howard stern ? I’m not one to have bad things to say about John but it wasn’t cool what he said and it comes from a guy who “portrays” such a nice guy. The things he said tho We’rent so nice.
I agree with you. Kanyon accused the WWE of firing him for being gay and the WWE sent John Cena (also Ric Flair) to The Howard Stern Show to say that Kanyon wasn't a good wrestler. For any wrestling fan back then, that was complete BS. Kanyon had a great move set and was better than most of the guys on the WWE's roster.
For Mr 5 moves (Cena) to blast a guy who invented so much offensively and sold better than anyone. Cena should be ashamed of himself
@@bennett420316 And Cena did a lot more with five moves than Kanyon did with 50 and that's not a knock on Kanyon. It doesn't matter how many moves you can do. You realize it isn't a coincidence that the biggest draws in wrestling and talent that made the most money didn't have 100 different wrestling moves?
@@xliquidity3914 This is the only issue I have cause it just comes off as disingenuous and fake. God rest the dead, but Kayon has been dead for over a decade. I'm 24 years old and have been watching wrestling my entire life. I literally have never heard anyone talk about Kanyon until the last four or five years or so. All these Kanyon "fans" crawl from under the wood work. Every Kanyon "fan" I've asked what made Kanyon so special, every single one of them said the exact same thing. "He had a cool moveset and he was agile for a big guy" and then they throw in "He had the best moveset in the games"
Ricochet has cool moves too, doesn't mean he's a superstar to build a company around though.
All I'm saying is, out of nowhere people just started making Kanyon out to be like he was the next big thing and a once in a generation talent that should've been pushed in to the main event when they know they didn't feel like that when he was alive
@@themaddogofcrenshaw7367 I'm talking about Cena saying Kanyon wasn't any good in the ring. CENA was a draw but couldn't wrestle at all
More I watch Dark Side of the Ring, My hatred and anger literally towards Vince Mcmahon. This man is the true definition of scumbag of human being for what he did with Chris Kanyon and also Owen Hart. Chris Kanyon is my HOF, bless u chris. You are the unreal talent and deserve more than this.
Lol he was in WCW so?? Vince was literally not his boss.
The iceberg is much deeper than that. Waiting for him to be buried, so people can tell the REAL stories of Vince's crimes. Covering up murders, bribery of federal officials, racketeering, ... the list goes on.
@@marvingamez9057 Post WCW though Vince and WWE were his bosses and gave him bullshit without anything in return other than humiliation.

Kanyon was underrated so many great ones left too soon man
I love how the subtitles at the start of this clip translated to 'who better than Kanye?' 😆
Unfortunately for Kanyon, the fans said 'everybody' when he asked them -
'Who's better than Kanyon'
My late lady friend Lillian trained Chris. He loved to play golf, he played with Lil. I was introduced to him, was a really nice person. I didn’t know either.
Come on, you can make up a better story than that.

Finding out Undertaker stopped liking/caring about him and dropped him as a friend for being gay.
Then absolutely try to kill him with a chairshot on a TV segment. Sad.
that’s why taker is the goat

Why do people just forget what undertaker did? Like everyone loves him. Seems like a pretty terrible person to me. Not like a wrestler of his status couldn't have easily said no to doing that. I'm sure he was all for it.
@@Gameboy-Unboxings Certain guys just get a pass, like Undertaker and Ric Flair. It's rather sad.

@@jayhollows5729 I bet you thought Chuck and Billy were actually gay too, didn't you?
that's the problem with the IWC, they take anything they see on TV as if it's real, or if that's how the WWE feels about a certain subject or group of people. you won't see movie fans calling Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino racists because they wrote racial and ethnic slurs for actors to use.
@@thetribalthief6330 Yeah Chuck and Billy was written to make fun of gay people. People have been talking about homophobia in the WWE for a long time it isn’t anything new.

so far no story on rick rude and Mr. Perfect which is injustice, Not only great wrestlers but lives were cut short by tragedy.
Kanyon was an Amazing Performer, one of the Best in Ring Technicians of All Time. Facts
lol
I love Kanyon 😢 He was so awesome!!!!! He deserved so much more. LEGEND in my opinion. I wish so badly that things could have went differently for him AND Mike Awesome also. Heartbreaking. They both were fantastic
It's pretty telling that even with all he put up, Mitchell still loved Kanyon enough to move on from everything but not out him.
Chris Kanyon should have been in a feud with Diamond Dallas Page and it would have been awesome to see these two face off for the WCW TV Title with Kanyon even defeating Page to win his first singles title.
Vice!! We need episodes on The Great Kabuki and Kevin Sullivan
Rest in peace Chris Kanyon. You’re are deeply missed.
How does this just end like this? Is there more?
Kanyon was an AMAZING wrestler.
where can i watch the entire episode? cheers
Dailymotion, they have the full episode there
Vince himself is not so secretly queer, he shoulda just came on outta the closet with that kiss my ass storyline
It's a damn shame his sexuality made him so troubled, to the point ending his life seemed like his best alternative.
First time I remember seeing him he was Mortis and I've always kinda based my created characters off that a bit
I swear when he sounds like Kanyon I cant stop lol😅😂
He was great in the ring. Looked awesome as Mortis.
It's a shame he couldn't survive his issues. He would have been fully accepted and celebrated in today's locker room.
If people were a lot more open-minded in the 1990s & Early 2000s; his career wouldn’t have had so many bumps. RIP to you Legend. 🏳️🌈
People were open minded back then. Only difference now is the Alphabet group constantly push their agenda down everyone throat and "cancel" any that don't agree.
But the percentages is still the same. Having the loudest microphone doesn't mean the majority follow or agree with you.
The Alphabet group simply have bigger microphones today. but the majority is boycotting companies that promote foolishness like Bud Light and Target...

Chris Kanyon was an underrated wrestler.
Pat Paterson was the first openly gay wrestler and he didn't let anything get to em and that was back in the day when ppl really looked at you strange for being different
That’s crazy, it’s almost like these are two people with totally different experiences and tolerances. Just because Pat could handle it doesn’t mean Kanyon could, maybe his support system was very limited and/or nonexistent
@@Goopbrainzcan anyone tell me or if you have any idea that how come Pat came up and got into one of the most prominent backend positions and became Vince's favorite?
Was it because he was older than Vince and had some extra experience of the industry which could've led to Vince to soften his stance and use Pat for his knowledge?
@@prize5ighterAccording to Sabu, Vince always knew that Patterson was gay because Vince is a fruitcake that likes hiring other fruitcakes. There may be some truth to that.
His appearance on Howard Stern before he died was quite sad

It was so empowering they way he abused and molested dozens of ring boys and young superstars.
Vince assaults women but homophobes like you only wanna talk about the gay ones 💀
These institutions don’t like to put child molesters. I wonder why.
In hindsight I don't think it would have mattered at all. His innovation in the ring was always entertaining because he always seemed to be in the fight. In the 90s people didn't care about it as much as you would think because the community wasn't trying to force their agendas on others. They just coexisted and it worked just fine.
Loved Kris, he was very innovative. He did moves I'd never seen before , as a teenager I was like damn, dude raw
As a kid morbius and wrath were so cool to me
im not gonna say i knew he was gay...but i definietly always felt it was something different about dude. the way he moved, the lisp....but it was more then that even u could just tell he wasnt the normal "tough" guy
Not a surprise this guy never came out when even in 2023 a video gets made about him and you refer to him being queer. Not a nice way to describe him and his sexuality.

I've always found it strange how people who get all excited about watching two half naked men covered in sweat and baby oil grappling with each other yet somehow feel morally obliged to be outraged about who one of the people has a relationship with. Somehow I get the feeling they wouldn't be slapping their foreheads in dramatic comedy if they found out a couple of the female wrestlers happened to love another woman. Likely slapping something else.

@@Radents_TWO Based off of one incident?
When his own friend says he wasn't fired for being gay, I tend to think Kanyon may have made stuff up.
