What a underrated wrestler and with all the stories about him he never had a bad word said about him, in fact he helped so many before himself in my view. I thought it was bad to hear that cena spoke to say he was rubbish when you see how much he trained not just wrestlers but star guests in wcw (the young cena would have known this being in the background of the film and see it before his eyes). And even before that, El Santo who was a cultural icon for Mexico and pretty much started the masked wrestler trend. Then you have Tiger Mask in Japan who was so popular that the gimmick went from one wrestler to the other and he ended up in mangas, animes and video games ( King in Tekken is a direct tribute to Tiger Mask ). But I agree I think Kane is the coolest masked wrestler to ever step in the ring. When you're more intimidating than The Undertaker it means something.

Ever since DSOTR people have been saying Kanyon should've been bigger but the reality is that he wrestled in an era where over half of the roster on both sides of the fence were going to be hall of famers. Documentaries don't always show the cold facts. Maybe in 2024 Kanyon in his prime would've been a big deal, but those who were there in the 90's didn't care much for Kanyon. When he interacted with other wrestlers like Raven or DDP, they would totally outshine him. He didn't have the "it" factor, as JR calls it.

I hear so many people saying the invasion was a failed event but I honestly was glad the top stars didn't come to WWE at the time because it created an opportunity for the undercard of WCW to shine. Kanyon is a prime example of that. He was a monster on the mic and in the ring and we finally got to see him shine. I don't know why any company would let a guy like this go. Kanyon was dope in the ring. I remember that's all the kids talked about in school in the 9th grade. Kanyon's Costume.
I don't mean this with any sense of disrespect whatsoever- but sometimes I wonder if Kanyon and Vandenberg were involved. Sometimes the seemingly abusive nature of their relationship strikes me as that of people who are comfortable with each other much farther than the professional relationship. Either way- just curious. I wish Kanyon would have had the happy kind of life that would have assured his presence with us today. I always regret that at the time his existence shone the brightest in pro wrestling was not the same time where he would have been allowed to come out openly. I sense that deep down he was a better person than people may let on because he wanted to be example for gay people who feel closeted and trapped.
It's actually very ironic. Kanyon wanted to come out for so many great reasons... and today, coming out would be a multi million dollar idea... and ironically, today it's done for political reasons. Just goes to show- people will actively stand in your way to prevent you from doing good, but they will taxi you at mach speed to doing something for the wrong reasons.
