Owning 2 x leather and 1 rubber sole at the moment and having been wearing them for over 40 years, I can say that pair of boots is over 10 years old and probably close to the first incarnation of the rubber sole. Over ten years for a well worn, replaceable sole, still better than nearly anything else on the market.

RM Williams are an institution in Australia.
If you go around the cities and the offices you will see loads of men in RM Williams.
I went to their shop to get fitted and I think it makes a big difference.
I consider them to be the most comfortable boots I own, I have Thursdays, Grant Stone, Meermin and Carmina.
I don't think the leather is anything special, but I like the last and that is a single piece of leather.
RM Williams offer a recrafting service in Australia, so would go back there when the time comes.
As well as being the most comfortable probably the most durable I own.
I haven't heard about chunks coming off the sole before so could have been unlucky.
It was interesting to hear about the leatherboard and attaching to the ribber sole.
One pair of my RM Williams Comfort Craftsman boots is more than 10 years old and going strong. The second pair is more than 5 years old and still going strong.
Thanks for the review! I am considering a pair of these boots, but not for fashion. I am a horse riding stockman. Semi (or maybe fully) retired now, but planning on some long distance rides. This boot design originated for Australian cowboys, and might work out good for me. Thinking about it anyway. Thanks again, Eric

I have a pair of custom made R.M Williams Santa Fe they are a lovely boot, I have owned several of their boots over the years my first pair going back to 1974, great Australian made boot, by the way watching this video has me thinking about buying a new pair of their dress comfort craftsman

Thanks for the video - interesting to get your review. I’ve had - and still have - several pairs of the all leather RM Williams boots. I find them very comfortable and hardwearing. I did have a pair of the rubber sole ‘comfort’ boots, but they broke up fairly quickly with a crack across the sole. I wouldn’t buy another pair of those. But the all leather boots have served me pretty well.

Do you recall if the welts on these are leather or a synthetic welt? I have a pair and the welt doesn’t seem to be leather….or I could be wrong
I've repaired and resoled 100s of RM Williams boots.
It really depends on which model you get. Their rubber is a synthetic mix, dynamic flex are rubbish, and the comfort footbeds are foam and cardboard.
The best ones are all leather, foot beds, and soles. Rest is not worth it.

Can you cut off the tabs to make them look more formal?
The tabs are an iconic feature of RM Williams, if you cut them off your boots will lose shape over time after taking them off and putting them on. The tabs identify them as RM's.
Edit: also RMW chelsea boots can be found anywhere from boardrooms to barnyards they are that versatile.
What u think of red back boots
I tried the Comfort Craftsman version. Main problem is the synthetic insole. It is not breathable and will lead to sweating and can make a squeaking sound. Therefore now getting the leather soled version.
I agree, that insole is trash. Any ideas on what to do about this? I love my boots but hate the damn insole. Help.
@@SamM-qk9xo I asked RM Williams and to change that insole the entire sole has to come off. Don’t really want to do that on a new boot, but if yours is a bit older, then this might be an option. - Once I have my classic version, I’m going to get a rubber sole as a replacement when the leather sole has reached the end of its life.
Do you have nay thoughts on the " Dynamic Flex sole is a mixture of rubber and leather soles"
I’ve seen a few and they are great however I’ve noticed the rubber half sole they use tends to somewhat rip over time as well depending on your walking pattern as well if you wear out the center more the tan part with the logo has ripped out in a odd way on a few people I’ve seen but they did wear them down a lot and didn’t catch it in time so just needs to be kept a eye on and replace it before it might become a problem and you trip
Hope you get to repair a pair of classic craftsman, where it has a leather insole and outsole.
I have a number of times but all of a sudden when the RUclips channel started growing haven’t seen as much lol
@@CobblersPlus RM has been pushing the comfort models since 2014, cheaper for RM and can never develop a footbed...

Those rubber soles have great grip and water resistance which I really need.
Jackpot, you answered a question I never knew I had, which divides the boot I’m getting.
Anyone who owns one? How is the arch support and heel support? most boots have terrible heel support as they are all flat n not a cup shape.
The all leather boots give pretty good support in my opinion, though your milage may vary. I prefer these boots to be moderately tight. To help to achieve this I always have a pair of thin leather insoles, backed with a thin layer of foam (you can buy them easily here in the UK). I take them out when not wearing the boots to let them dry off. Eventually they break down - sweat, I suppose - and renew them. It does preserve the footbed, so worth doing in my opinion.

I was considering a pair. Who would you suggest otherwise. The cheap counter heel shouldn’t have been used. I’m in the US.
I have 4 pairs they are great boots . I have a comfort craftsman full leather inside the boot with the rubber soles . Rubber sole lasted 10 years . Had the heels done a couple of times before a full resole .
These are great boots and the only reason why they used the fiberboard was because these had that soft sole and needed a better desperation of the pricier in the nails against the soft sole
