    Ariat Two24's boot the Jefferson is a unique hybrib of a chelsea boot and a cowboy boot. I got a pair to cut in half and review to see how it stands up against the only other boot that similar that i've cut apart, the $500 RM Williams.

    The major cost difference isn't just about the components or materials, used in the boots. The biggest costs come from the fact that one is made in Mexico and one is made in Australia. Australia is right up the pointy end of wages for employees, right up there for work conditions, for occupational health and safety standards etc, all of these add substantialy to the final cost of any consumable. I, for one, would much rather pay the extra dollars, knowing the person who made my boots was paid a decent wage and was not a child of 12, working in a sweat shop. I'm not saying the people who make the Ariat boots use child, or slave, labour, not at all, I just know you can't get away with that sort of thing at all, in Australia.

    I think it’s fair to point out that RMs are normally about $500-$600 in Australia which is 350-390 USD, in the US they are much more of a specialty. You can get Redwings in Australia but you’d be crazy to buy them for $450 Aus when good Oliver’s/Redbacks/Steel-Blue are $200-$250.

    You left a ton of information out of the RM Williams. They are hand made, whole cut boots from one piece of leather. That’s a lot of material for one boot. Also, not many companies make whole cut boots. I know you did another vid just on the RM, but if your doing a comparison, it’s good to have the details.

    • @RoseAnvil
      @RoseAnvil  3 года назад +17

      Like I mentioned in the video it’s less about the direct comparison and more about having a high watermark to compare a more affordable boot to to see what sacrifices were made and if you are ok with the sacrifices.

      @mozesimanjuntak4155 3 года назад +6

      @@RoseAnvil I think RM Williams is overpriced for materials alone but you also get the heritage and flex points with others who are in-the-know. Honestly, Ariat doesn't have brand heritage or a discernible aesthetic. They're great for people who are strictly concerned only to the value of materials, which you give great reviews on. But it would be nice to acknowledge the heritage and aesthetic of RM Williams.

Would love for a series to continue of reviewing non-boot shoes too as I find it interesting to see how the likes of Adidas/Puma/Nike/Reebok etc construct their leather shoes compared to boot companies. Maybe a skater series looking at all the different mass-produced suede shoes or some other way to keep comparing and looking at casual footwear.

  • @jibrankhan6072
    @jibrankhan6072 2 года назад +9

    Great video but I think it would be fair to note that RM Williams are actually $350 US in Australia (or ordering from there), because that means that we're dealing with a price difference of $70, not $200. This is also relevant because someone buying the Ariats in Aus would be dealing with markup too anyway.

    The Ariats have the same issue as other non-RM Chelsea boots: 1. they’re too “busy” with the design 2. multiple pieces of leather.
    They do have a nice slim sole which is a nice trend. However, being zipper boots, they aren’t appealing to me. I have a 2014 pair of Luchesse zips and love them. At $700, I regret waiting until 2022 to buy my RMs which are more durable and comfortable.

      Vegan leather does more damage to the environment than any western made leather. Of course if you're talking about leather from India or China or Mexico then yeah they pollute the environment and are cruel to the animals and kill them for their leather more than plastic and the workers can develop health issues. But the western tanneries, Horween, C.F stead, and a lot of the Italians and French ones use the leather that are byproducts of the meat industry, you can find veg tanned leather, or they have their own facilities to clean up the chromium salts in the water and protective gear for the workers.
      Kinda like how most clueless liberals support electric cars while not realizing how damaging the mining of rare earth minerals in China are to the environment there for electric car batteries. This is going to sound crazy but it's true: Pure Electric cars are a ploy by the elite to restrict travel and adopt a social credit system like China because Electric resupply stations will need to be nationalized or at least funded by the government in order to really cover the country in any reasonable amount of time from now. Cows and Gasoline especially now with emission laws in the west, are not that great of a threat to the environment or to our health. Communist and Capitalist slave labor and conditions and unregulated pollution are but it's a lot easier to critique the things the government tells you to than to change and criticize the root causes that they don't want you to criticize. It's a lot easier to band-aid over the problems rather than examine their root causes. Vegan leather is a band-aid for animal cruelty, as are electric cars a band-aid for the insane plastic and air pollution going on. (Vegan leather is plastic, real leather will bio-degrade plastic never EVER will, all those sites telling you plastic degrades after 100 years are LYING, it merely disintegrates into smaller and smaller pieces from a whole piece, but none of those pieces EVER degrades, in fact the sun causes them to act as a sort of sieve that absorbs nearby toxic vapors meaning all that ocean plastic becomes more and more toxic as time goes on ).
      And if you are a real stickler the ultimate solution would be to pay a premium for veg tanned leather to help bring that industry back, yeah they use a lot of water but it's much easier to clean the water and there are no harsh chemicals, the water is being poisoned by dead skin/raw flesh/bacteria and natural tanning agents that can be easily filtered out. It's the cheap consumerism and godlessness of modern day communist/socialist and capitalist societies that traded out quality, tradition, patience for a good product, and national origin and local accountability for globalism and convenience, and the I want it now mentality.

    CRAZY!!!! You won't believe this but I just subscribed your channel because I was saddle soaping and oiling my Justin boots and had tutorials for that playing in the background an I heard you say let's go ahead and cut this $1,000 shoe in half and instantly was hooked!! Then immediately searched for cutting a Justin commander X 5 steel toe in half, not exactly but 6 hrs ago you cut an different boot in half! That's crazy! I love it! An I'll definitely be watching for when you get a chance to cut a Justin Commander X5 steel toe boot in half!!! 😈 ☠️ 😈

    Given how serious you are about being non-biased by sponsors in your analysis, it might be good to copy or link to one of the really good writeups of your sponsor philosophy for all your videos. It’s a really cool move and you should make sure that new viewers know where you’re coming from! (Like in the video description or something)

    • @RoseAnvil
      @RoseAnvil  3 года назад +3

      It varies from boot to boot but big eventually wear out and can be replaced. Gussets stretch out more over time which can cause the boots not to fit correctly anymore

    • @khills
      @khills 3 года назад +4

      Rose Anvil See, that would be really useful to mention within videos-I bet a lot of people don’t know that, or what to look for in a good, long lasting gusset-or zipper! Surely some of the zippers are easier to replace than others? Can gussets be replaced? How do they replace zippers without affecting the look of the boot? (It seems like it would be difficult to reuse the same stitching holes, for a bunch of reasons.)
      You don’t need to answer me here-these are just some things to think about for future videos (especially vs ones).

    I think you could do with restructuring and possibly extending the length of your “vs” videos, and it might be worth doing them after you do a full tear down on both of the products you’re looking at. That way you can do a few things to combat some of the criticism in the comments here. Doing a full tear down on the Ariats first lets you go into serious detail on how they are made, and satisfies folks who want a good look at all the materials and enjoy hearing you talk about all the details, as well as the folks who just find it satisfying to see soles torn off. (I admit I was disappointed we didn’t get to see the soles peeled apart; you occasionally have such interesting revelations as you pull things fully apart.)
    Then your “vs” videos can skip the tearing apart, or show funny outtakes from the first videos, and really get into the nitty gritty of compare and contrast. For example, what’s the plus/minus of the gusset vs zipper? Where is the leather from and how is it different-not only the part of the animal skin, but how the skin was prepared. How many pieces of leather is it cut from, and why might that matter? How easy would each be to resole, and how much would it cost? How easy are they put on? (And think about dexterity issues-could you get them on drunk? If one wrist is immobilized? If you have physical disabilities or issues with grip?) Are they water resistant or waterproof? Can you treat the leather without having the color change? How hard would it be to have them stretched if you’re between sizes? How does the leather clean?
    You could also consider community feedback on what the most important things to know are, and pop them up on the left and right side of the screen as you’re talking in general. That way you don’t have to restate the information you’ve already filmed. (And from a RUclips standpoint, you’ll likely drive traffic to your older videos as people search to find comparison videos and learn you do have detailed reviews, too.)
    🤷‍♀️ Just something to think about! This video felt like it wasn’t really a comparison, wasn’t really a tear apart, and like there just wasn’t time to do both in one for a new shoe/boot.
