I think it’s just that Neon is worth putting time into. And Cypher doesn’t counter her hard enough to justify NOT putting in that time. With the buffs the payoff for investing into Neon is exceptional. As for the comparison to old Jett, I feel Jett was more egregious because she had so much verticality. Neon may go fast, but most utility is ground-level; her abilities can be countered with other abilities. Maybe this is a hot take but I think Neon is fair considering the absurd level of mastery required to succeed with her, and the fact that most utility can interact with her (i.e. she isn’t flying everywhere). The different between being in the air and being on the ground is actually pretty significant in terms of fairness. Jett breaks the game fundamentally whereas Neon has to play within the confines of the tactical loop. EDIT: Well all this to say she is close to breaking it 😅 she will 100% be due for a nerf eventually because she is overpowered, but I don’t think we’ll see years of nerfs like with Jett.
I guess I'm also one of the few who thinks Neon is at a decent state right now. Because prior to these buffs, Neon since release was ass and I still think her kit is pretty ass if you compare her to the other dueslists' kits as she relies heavily on good support utility to make executes. Running Neon is high risk high reward type of situation. The buffs only rewards those players who can capitalize on the niche she offers and are comfortable with the agent otherwise they're just running it down. If a team has no Neon player, it's not the end of the world like in the old Jett and Chamber meta, they can still find success running Jett or Raze. I just like that pro teams are experimenting with Neon right now because we finally get to see some variety picks for the duelist role instead of the same ol Jett and Raze.
I'm actually happy we're getting more variety of duelists picked in pro play instead of just the old redundant jett and raze picks from the previous years. People complained how there's only the usual two agents getting picked up for the duelist slot and it was getting stale but now a new agent rises to challenge the old meta and there's still people unhappy about it. I just think people are overreacting a bit with the success of neon recently because of how well the top teams played her but I would say it's largely contributed to a lot of teams unfamiliarity with the agent. Eventually people will learn to play against it and teams shift back to raze because the strats have been read (see Team Heretics sunset for example, known pioneers of the neon comp on the map). Plus it's not like we see neon on every map like jett and chamber were. She's only predominant on sunset and arguably haven and lotus (but several teams still opt to go for jett and raze respectively on those maps). And take note that lotus is getting removed from rotation.
When initiators are so good at pointing cypher util or outright break it. Then it comes down to what pros and cons the particular duelist provide. Neon is particularly good at disturbing crosshairs with slides similar to what Jett does with her dash. Raze satchel nerfs have also made raze unable to close the gaps as quick as a neon or a Jett.
here’s the thing with valorant, it’s not even close to, at the high level, being played in a perfect manner. one must account for human error on both sides of the coin before considering extremely theoretical strategic play. this is the case more so for valorant than for say football as in the latter game the “meta” has already been defined for decades

Not comparable in the slightest. Viper has always had very good wr%, vastly outclassing alternative archetypes (especially Breach comps). She also remains to this day the only agent with a slice that enables lurking, which explains her near 200% presence on Bind. There are tangible stats and in-game dynamics you can point to when claiming that Viper is strong. This is not the case for Neon. Neon’s wr% isn’t good and she doesn’t do anything that no other agent can in the current map pool. Also note that TMV basically knows his arguments are weak. Anecdotes and the “EDG does it so it must be good” fallacy are all there is to defend this Neon pickrate
Neon is very similar to Jett in a sense that in order for her to shine she needs to outplay her enemies mechanically. This was the strength of raze as well before the nerfs to her stachel. But unlike Jett though, she does not have verticality to her kit- but its weakness is offsetted by her strong passive: her sprint which provides opportunities for tactical outplays. Tactical outplays is where Raze and Yoru are leaning towards right now.
At first I also got confused why neon was popular It’s used a lot often by Kang Kang as well as zekken in champs but worked out very well and I think everyone is using it right now because of how well Neon was played in champs

So basically, 2021 Jett was playing a movement shooter while every other agent in the lobby else played Valorant. And now Neon’s been given that level of insane movement and self-sufficiency to make her viable. The current Neon definitely seems impossible to fight, but you’d have to weigh it against the longer smokes + double updraft + instant dash Jett, and also the Swiss Army knife of versatility that is Raze’s design. I think I’d take current Neon over what we previously had, personally. She’s more susceptible to Sentinel utility, like you mentioned. And for what it’s worth, Neon shattering ankles is definitely more entertaining in VCT than Jett doing it. Fracture returning with the current Neon would undoubtedly provide nonstop banger matches.
I have to agree, it's fun to see more variety of agents selected for the duelist slot. That's why I enjoyed watching america's ascension this year, I got to see promising young cracked duelists play Neon well. And I think Neon is at an okay spot right now, people are just overreacting a bit with the success she's recently getting because of unfamiliarity but I could see teams catching up and countering it with enough plays around it (like how prime optic used to play Neon and then switched back to the Raze comps after having enough reps on it). I don't think she's broken because whenever I compare Neon to other duelists, I still see her kit as weak specially since she lacks verticality in movement that Jett and Raze have. And unlike other duelists she relies heavily on good support players for executes; it's probably why I see a lot bottom frag Neons on radiant ranked games, she only works well in a solid teamplay environment. From what I see, if teams have a duelist cracked on Neon they could go for it but if not then the usual Jett and Raze picks work just as well. Like she is not a must pick.
EDG didnt even have a cypher on lotus where neons were a popular pick, so maybe they had some good ways to counter neon? It also might have just been zmjjkk diffing them tho i didnt try to analyze the champs games this year, was just watching for the sport
Neon is really strong as she excels in dueling people. The slides are very good. Her ult is absolutely busted. Her speed allows her to get unexpected timings.
If there was only 1 site to take, Cypher would fully counter her. Unfortunately for him, he can't usually setup at all sites and effectively hold them.
I think it is that they buffed Neon and nerfed Raze almost at the same time that causes this. If Raze would still have her blast pack range and stuff she would be picked more. Now one agent is mid while the other is close to being OP
I remember when this change came out people were like "it's going to mean nothing cause Cypher" and I was like, the two slides are massive mobility changes that even if you get caught by the trip you still have some survivability than before. I'm honestly glad things are shaking up in the meta cause it feels like the Duelist role finally has some balance and diversity to it (even some of the Skirmisher duelists have potential too).

I know outplay agents are fun but at some point there needs to be acknowledgment of what is too much. Neon and omen are through the roof right now because of outplay potential and that’s the same reason viper got nerfed into absolute oblivion. They made her pit more expensive, they took away her molly, they made her orb a one time use and they then made both her orb and her wall share the same toxin pool and then when that wasn’t enough they increased cool down times and how fast her toxin runs out. Omen needs a nerf. He’s needed a nerf for like a year now. When astra was this strong in the meta they absolutely hammered her. It’s only a matter of time. Not to mention how unfair it is to be blinded through a wall and then TPd on and shot in the back. It’s not only his kit that’s the problem it’s the combination of utility. That’s why fade was nerfed so hard. Skye having three flashes that gain info was too much so they cut that back and then nerfed the dog. If tenz playing omen in VCT didn’t show you that he’s broken then I can’t help you. The fact he can be played as a duelist essentially by tenz should basically tell you HES TOO STRONG. when any other controller had a fraction of that capability riot nerfed them into the ground.

Make the time until full fuel regen 40 seconds, revert the slide accuracy changes, and reduce the amount of fuel regen per kill to somewhere between 20 and 40 so the ult doesn't have absurd uptime. I feel this way about jett knives too. You should only get the knife that got the kill back instead of all of them.
@@FumeiShichi jet knives suck by comparison. You get less shots than a sheriff and they do 50 to the body and there’re clunky af and you only get them every few rds. Most of the time a vandal is better unless you’re pushing into the enemy and being setup. Yes the knife outplays look insane but it’s not like jet doesn’t die with knives or completely miss all 5 of them on a regular basis. Now compare that to how consistent neon ult is
@@Venomx-nb1jr My problem is just how heavily rewarded whiffing multiple knives before getting a kill is. This is similar to a problem that the neon ult has. Wasting fuel by any means, getting one kill and then getting it all back is just ridiculous. If the neon ult had some realistic time constraints placed on it then its power would be more acceptable. I just don't want indecision, poor decisions, or poor mechanical gameplay to be as rewarded as they currently are. If that jett nerf screwed her over then something else in her kit could be buffed instead. Neon as a whole is a problem. Jett just has an aspect to her I view as a problem.

Let’s call a spade a spade. They need to fix the shooting mechanics in this game. It’s awful. And the resurgence of neon is all the proof you need. You cannot take half a step with a vandal and then land the next shot. NEON CAN OH AND SHE CAN SLIDE! I’ve been playing a bit of spectre divide and oh my word the gun play in Val is like hammering my head repeatedly against a wall. The RNG combined with not being able to have any lee way in movement to hit a bullet is awful. They need to revert the run and gun nerf. Why do I have to buy a guardian for an accurate bullet? Even the phantom feels like shit beyond 15 Ms. So yeah when you can’t move at all and your bullets are rng, any agent that negates those disadvantages is going to have a massive advantage.
We all know how frustrating it is to face off against someone who masters Neon. The constant jump peeking, clever fakes, and disruption of our crosshair placement can be infuriating. Blaming the Vandal for a poor spray, then switching to the Phantom only to deal 124 damage-it's maddening. And when they activate their ultimate... well, let's just say the game feels like it's already over.

Here's my hot take: The Valorant Meta is the best it's ever been. - Duelist position not overly dominant by 1 agent. Neon, Jett, Raze, and Yoru are all viable and have their own unique uses. - Not one overly dominant agent ruining the game for everyone (2022 cypher) - Pretty diverse possibilities for team comps with no real super dominant way to build a team comp aside from a few maps that may have some pretty consistent comps but nothing overly solved. Map pool could be better and not every agent is viable but that's bound to happen.
Hot take : Neon is a 0 skill agent Valorant literally has a hitbox issue on fast movement abilities and hits don't register properly on raze slide/Jett dass/Raze sachel. This was also very clear in VCT 2024 as well when so many perfectly lined shots on Neon failed to register This can easily be proven via conducting tests, i advise analysts to get onto this because i have already tested this out in a not so formal way and the issue is easily provable Eitherways Neon will be nerfed for sure (because Riot still doesn't understand the real issue with their hitboxes being useless)
im still of the opinion that Neon as an agent (along with Reyna) is fundamentally unhealthy for the game. i hate neon. screw neon. i hope neon has a bad day every day.

I think making gekko's ult cost 8 points, a slight nerf to cypher trip re-proc, and a neon slide accuracy and slide nerf would put the game at a great spot. I'm interested to see how astra vs omen plays out. Phoenix needs a movement ability, and sage needs her slows to be recharge instead of heal. That's about all I can think of without making deadlock broken
@@nik_mik I’d have to really think about it. There isn’t any one agent that jumps off the page right now as being really broken. But I do think omen needs a nerf. Outside of that I just feel like a lot of abilities are just maybe a touch over tuned. What’s crazy is I think jet is probably one of the most balanced agents in the game now. But like yoru flashes don’t need to last 15 seconds. Reyna shouldn’t get away at Mach 10 speed. Clove should come out of her ult faster. Like certain agents in the game have entirely too long animations for things. You can’t have agents like neon running around and have kayo take ten years to pull out a flash. Like the counter play is really lacking right now. Like iso has the same decay clove has but he gets two and they go through the wall. Just things like that really bother me. I still think boom bot is annoying. Gekko probably needs a trim but you can shoot his utility and you can move from his molly. I think he is and has been one of the most fair agents in the game. If you get caught by his ult it’s usually because of how the rd is being played. There’s a lot of risk to picking his kit back up and he still has to pull out his flash and place wing man. I want every agent to be like that. Most of the time when I die to Gekko flash its cause it’s being combined with other util. A lot of the problems I ended up having with destiny 2 were over tuned abilities and spam and cheese tactics. I don’t want to see valorant go in that direction. And right now omen feels like that. That’s my barometer for determining if an agent needs a nerf.

Another incentive to pick neon imo is for the defensive side. She can make rotations faster and also relocate easier with an op than raze.

Neon is really strong as she excels in dueling people. The slides are very good. Her ult is absolutely busted. Her speed allows her to get unexpected timings.
If there was only 1 site to take, Cypher would fully counter her. Unfortunately for him, he can't usually setup at all sites and effectively hold them.
I think it is that they buffed Neon and nerfed Raze almost at the same time that causes this. If Raze would still have her blast pack range and stuff she would be picked more.
Now one agent is mid while the other is close to being OP

I think neon’s slide is just so strong , the accuracy while moving is just broken.
I remember when this change came out people were like "it's going to mean nothing cause Cypher" and I was like, the two slides are massive mobility changes that even if you get caught by the trip you still have some survivability than before. I'm honestly glad things are shaking up in the meta cause it feels like the Duelist role finally has some balance and diversity to it (even some of the Skirmisher duelists have potential too).
Does it actually shake up the meta or is she just getting picked more? Stats definitely suggest the latter

@@thenightjackal who said anything about his ult? Ults themselves should be balanced separately across the agent pool. What’s busted is his kit and the absolute brokenness of paranoia. I know outplay agents are fun but at some point there needs to be acknowledgment of what is too much. Neon and omen are through the roof right now because of outplay potential and that’s the same reason viper got nerfed into absolute oblivion. They made her pit more expensive, they took away her molly, they made her orb a one time use and they then made both her orb and her wall share the same toxin pool and then when that wasn’t enough they increased cool down times and how fast her toxin runs out.
Omen needs a nerf. He’s needed a nerf for like a year now. When astra was this strong in the meta they absolutely hammered her. It’s only a matter of time. Not to mention how unfair it is to be blinded through a wall and then TPd on and shot in the back. It’s not only his kit that’s the problem it’s the combination of utility. That’s why fade was nerfed so hard. Skye having three flashes that gain info was too much so they cut that back and then nerfed the dog.
If tenz playing omen in VCT didn’t show you that he’s broken then I can’t help you. The fact he can be played as a duelist essentially by tenz should basically tell you HES TOO STRONG. when any other controller had a fraction of that capability riot nerfed them into the ground.

Make the time until full fuel regen 40 seconds, revert the slide accuracy changes, and reduce the amount of fuel regen per kill to somewhere between 20 and 40 so the ult doesn't have absurd uptime. I feel this way about jett knives too. You should only get the knife that got the kill back instead of all of them.
@@FumeiShichi jet knives suck by comparison. You get less shots than a sheriff and they do 50 to the body and there’re clunky af and you only get them every few rds. Most of the time a vandal is better unless you’re pushing into the enemy and being setup. Yes the knife outplays look insane but it’s not like jet doesn’t die with knives or completely miss all 5 of them on a regular basis. Now compare that to how consistent neon ult is
@@Venomx-nb1jr My problem is just how heavily rewarded whiffing multiple knives before getting a kill is. This is similar to a problem that the neon ult has. Wasting fuel by any means, getting one kill and then getting it all back is just ridiculous. If the neon ult had some realistic time constraints placed on it then its power would be more acceptable. I just don't want indecision, poor decisions, or poor mechanical gameplay to be as rewarded as they currently are. If that jett nerf screwed her over then something else in her kit could be buffed instead. Neon as a whole is a problem. Jett just has an aspect to her I view as a problem.
@@FumeiShichi bro you’re talking about 5 knives. And it’s an ultimate. My guy you get 25 bullets in a single mag in the vandal every round. Jet gets 5 knives for 1 round and has to get a kill to get them reloaded. It’s apples and oranges here.

You have to get a kill within 5 shots or the ult is just gone. Half the time I’d rather just entry with my gun than knives anyway cause then you gotta pull your gun out anyway. Unless you’re like immo or radiant I can’t imagine jet knives being that big of a nightmare

Neon is the ultimate vibes agent. She feels unfair in clips like the one in the video, that’s all there is to her. Doesn’t matter that she is inferior to Raze in every capacity except her rotaitonal acceleration, that, by the way, is mostly irrelevant as all of “her” maps are set-retake maps

@@brisankatarafder6395 yeah nobody wants to acknowledge the elephant in the room with neon and that’s that animations in this game and weapon switching takes a little while and then you’re being pushed by octane from apex and your gun has rng and you can’t move to shoot back. Of course her pick rate is through the roof when the alternative to playing neon is fumbling with your gun and your key binds trying to get out any utility to stop her or spraying an entire mag hoping a couple bullets hit her. Like DUH!

Let’s call a spade a spade. They need to fix the shooting mechanics in this game. It’s awful. And the resurgence of neon is all the proof you need. You cannot take half a step with a vandal and then land the next shot. NEON CAN OH AND SHE CAN SLIDE!
I’ve been playing a bit of spectre divide and oh my word the gun play in Val is like hammering my head repeatedly against a wall. The RNG combined with not being able to have any lee way in movement to hit a bullet is awful. They need to revert the run and gun nerf. Why do I have to buy a guardian for an accurate bullet? Even the phantom feels like shit beyond 15 Ms.
So yeah when you can’t move at all and your bullets are rng, any agent that negates those disadvantages is going to have a massive advantage.
If they reverted the rng changes it would also be pretty horrible, just in a different way.

We all know how frustrating it is to face off against someone who masters Neon. The constant jump peeking, clever fakes, and disruption of our crosshair placement can be infuriating. Blaming the Vandal for a poor spray, then switching to the Phantom only to deal 124 damage-it's maddening. And when they activate their ultimate... well, let's just say the game feels like it's already over.
@@yaseenpn881 I will say while you might blame this on neon it’s really showing how ass the guns are in this game and how inaccurate the rng is. The jump peeks and crosshair displacement wouldn’t matter if you didn’t have to to shoot a third of the mag to connect 4 bullets.

Here's my hot take: The Valorant Meta is the best it's ever been.
- Duelist position not overly dominant by 1 agent. Neon, Jett, Raze, and Yoru are all viable and have their own unique uses.
- Not one overly dominant agent ruining the game for everyone (2022 cypher)
- Pretty diverse possibilities for team comps with no real super dominant way to build a team comp aside from a few maps that may have some pretty consistent comps but nothing overly solved.
Map pool could be better and not every agent is viable but that's bound to happen.
Hot take : Neon is a 0 skill agent
Valorant literally has a hitbox issue on fast movement abilities and hits don't register properly on raze slide/Jett dass/Raze sachel. This was also very clear in VCT 2024 as well when so many perfectly lined shots on Neon failed to register
This can easily be proven via conducting tests, i advise analysts to get onto this because i have already tested this out in a not so formal way and the issue is easily provable
Eitherways Neon will be nerfed for sure (because Riot still doesn't understand the real issue with their hitboxes being useless)

@@nik_mik yeah riot says we don’t want utility to take away from the gun play then buffs neon so hard you could go play apex with her and she wouldn’t look out of place. Meanwhile viper has one molly and is never seen almost outside of icebox and her kit wasn’t even about racking up kills.
@@Venomx-nb1jr nah viper's good. Viper should be the bassline for how good an agent could be (in pro play). She used to be oppressive, now she's just great. Neon slide shooting is genuinely some of the stupidest shit ive ever seen in this game
@@nik_mik that’s my point. Riot spoke volumes about where they wanted the utility ceiling to be when they nerfed her and took away her second molly. But if that’s the ceiling then every other agent needs to be balanced accordingly. And we have a very long way to go to get there.

I think making gekko's ult cost 8 points, a slight nerf to cypher trip re-proc, and a neon slide accuracy and slide nerf would put the game at a great spot. I'm interested to see how astra vs omen plays out. Phoenix needs a movement ability, and sage needs her slows to be recharge instead of heal. That's about all I can think of without making deadlock broken
@@nik_mik I’d have to really think about it. There isn’t any one agent that jumps off the page right now as being really broken. But I do think omen needs a nerf. Outside of that I just feel like a lot of abilities are just maybe a touch over tuned. What’s crazy is I think jet is probably one of the most balanced agents in the game now. But like yoru flashes don’t need to last 15 seconds. Reyna shouldn’t get away at Mach 10 speed. Clove should come out of her ult faster. Like certain agents in the game have entirely too long animations for things. You can’t have agents like neon running around and have kayo take ten years to pull out a flash. Like the counter play is really lacking right now. Like iso has the same decay clove has but he gets two and they go through the wall. Just things like that really bother me. I still think boom bot is annoying. Gekko probably needs a trim but you can shoot his utility and you can move from his molly. I think he is and has been one of the most fair agents in the game. If you get caught by his ult it’s usually because of how the rd is being played. There’s a lot of risk to picking his kit back up and he still has to pull out his flash and place wing man. I want every agent to be like that. Most of the time when I die to Gekko flash its cause it’s being combined with other util. A lot of the problems I ended up having with destiny 2 were over tuned abilities and spam and cheese tactics. I don’t want to see valorant go in that direction. And right now omen feels like that. That’s my barometer for determining if an agent needs a nerf.
