    Strap Break in technique…
    1. Remove straps from case.
    2. Role up each side individually like a fruit role up as tight as possible.
    3. Once rolled up, hold that role in place with a rubber band for a day or two or three.
    4. Unroll & place back onto case.
    5. Enjoy.

    I like this. it seems to me to be an upgraded filed watch. I have been looking for a compass bezel insert for years for my SKX007 and now Seiko make a production one and with a bi directional bezel. For those, and yourself, going on about having a dive timing bezel then get a dive watch. This is a field watch with a reassurance that it will take a dunking in fast rough water like a mountain river. The Bezel is to be used when you use it for solar navigation when combined with sun position and time. You can set the bezel to give you the Cardinal points and basic direction. The Search and Rescue markings are international and the case back acts like an aide memoir for if you ever need to use that to get rescued. This is a watch for buscrafters and survivalists one I will be purchasing. On a second note if it had numbers and no date complication this t me would be a perfect field watch.

    After 5 months of ownership:
    It is a great watch, and one of my favourites and most worn that I own. The best things about it are the magnificent colorway and the sleek and sexy case. It is a way different feeling watch than the Turtle, or the Willard... the case is much sleeker and fits great. I am getting +4sec/day on the movement--awesome. It is super wearable and pairs with many more different straps than you'd think.. in fact, it's actually kind of a strap monster in a way. It pairs REALLY well with a whole lot of different outfits, which was surprising.
    I have not swum with it yet but I HAVE actually used the compass bezel to find my way around a foreign city when my phone wasn't working (really... I'm not kidding, I swear!). I have not used the ground-to-air signals haha. But the shiny glare off the sapphire is useful for annoying your wife.
    The lume is great, also because there is a full set of markers at night thanks to the 4:30 date, the watch is really reliable, I have no scratches at this point with normal (but not extreme sports or labor) use. I sort of prefer timing bezels but if you have multiple dive watches sometimes it's good to have something different; anyway, you can still use the "N" for north to mark the time you started an activity and time things.
    Negatives are, number one, the strap is pretty bad. It will not break in. If you don't care about straps, this one will do... it's functional, but that's about it. I have mine on a hunter green vegetable dyed hand-made Fluco strap outta Germany. Awesome!!! 10/10. (I did put the old Seiko strap on a Timex MK1 for awhile and that looked cool..)
    Negative number two, and only a very slight negative, everything lines up perfectly with the chapter ring and markers, but exactly on the hour, the hour hand is almost imperceptibly ever so slightly beyond the index on mine... But it's so microscopically slight that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't seen another reviewer testing it and tested mine with magnification. Not at all a big deal, but ought to be mentioned since I'm reviewing.
    What Titan said about the crown being slightly gritty is true, but to be honest I don't mind it at all because it gives you a lot of feedback on how the crown is screwed down.
    Winding action is great. Bezel action is great. Positioning the minute hand is only a tiny bit fidgety but for the price pretty par for the course. The super thin lollypop seconds hand is totally awesome.
    Overall a total banger, definitely worth the money and will weasel onto your wrist way more often than seems sensible. Good case build and reliable movement, but again, where that better value better QC entry Swiss, Asian spec monster or micro brand bargain will seem like it ought to win, it's a watch-box winner, a good-on-paper benchwarmer, and the Seiko will be what is actually on your wrist, because of the design brilliancy.

      @@EscapementWatch Oh, no apologies required. I know you said in that video you got many requests for the pink, but in this male dominated RUclips video viewing category, with not all men interested or able to pull off wearing a pink watch, that might be why the views are lower. Also, lately, based on many releases by watch companies, Green seems to be the "IT" colour now. I personally think a green dial is the best match for a bronze case. I'm definitely interested in the comparison video as I have a 6.75in wrist, so I will be watching. Thanks

    I like this watch, and I like your review of it. I also checked it out comparing it with my SKX009 and I came to the same conclusion. I was surprised at how small it is in comparison. It's light and slim, and I won't be buying it. I could seriously go for the SRPE05K1 "King Turtle" which is really chunky and feels dead solid, and has the day function. I wish they did a compass bezel for the King Turtle, because I do loads of hillwalking in Europe and I never go diving, but hey ho, you can't have it all. I guess that's what compasses are for!

  • @Andrew.W75
    @Andrew.W75 3 года назад +1

    Great looking well proportioned watch, impressively thin as well still with 200 metres water resistance. Shame the amplitude seems to be getting worse on these movements, I've got several vintage Seikos that have been serviced that have a higher amplitude! The trouble is that Seiko doesn't lubricate them properly, too much in some areas & not enough in others. If the oils spread around from the over lubricated areas it can cause the amplitude to drop further leading to time keeping issues

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  3 года назад

      Fair enough! however, my watchmaker did a full service on a 6r for me and it was still only 250amp with his swiss synthetic oils. These entry level movements are descendant from 7000 series economy line from Daini. I think seiko needs to give us a new entry level soon!

    • @Andrew.W75
      @Andrew.W75 3 года назад

      @@EscapementWatch That's interesting, I wonder if the lowish amplitude is anything to do with the adjustment for the beat error, according to Spencer Klein this can effect the amplitude. My Turtle with the 4R36 in it has a 300 degree amplitude so maybe there is a difference in the balance? Anyway I agree Seiko should be offering a better movement than the 6R in it's entry/mid tier watches!

      Sounds good to me but skip the AR coating its not a big deal in real life. If you ever lived with some rolex's it is the same. It's fine as long as the crystal is FLAT. and this one is! So insert, and bracelet...and clean crown!

      Hi Mark, I don’t believe it is. I purchased the made in Japan version (SBDY099) from Gnomon.

    SEIKO "TURTLE" SRP Series is by far superior and arguably incomparable to the newly released "TORTOISE".
    SEIKO "TURTLE" SRP Series is a ISO Certified DIVER'S 200M Watch with a super embossed "wave of Kanagawa" caseback and a unidirectional bezel.
    *The only positive(s) of the "TORTOISE" is the -minus 2mm reduced measurements and the No-Day Date at 4 O'clock can be controversial.
    All the hype with this new "TORTOISE" will never dethrone the KING SRP. Kinda like the new "SK5" will never match and live up to the glorious legacy of the SEIKO SKX. NEVER!
    *Similarly, the SEIKO SOLAR 200M "STREET SERIES" TUNA Style watches will never dethrone the SEIKO SBBN033 TUNA MARINE MASTER 300M. Never! Not even close.
    Despite my vociferous rebuke I would certainly own one but at half the MSRP gray market of $200 Price.
    Great video, love watching your presentation bro. Very easy to listen to even though we have invariably different tastes and views.
    Much Respect,
    Malik.

    What?!! A sapphire crystal? Miracles do sill happen. However it's much too late, I would have purchased many Seikos along the way if they had sapphire crystals. You shouldn't have to disassemble and clean a new "out of the box" watch. Ever. Misaligned chapter rings, sub par lume, cheaper bracelets etc. Funny that you mentioned pedigree. Their pedigree as of late, sucks. Shameful.

    It's nice but with a "real" turtle only £330 if you look about, why would you pay £500 for this?

      Hardlex vs. sapphire is the huge reason, no?

      I would prefer ios 200 Divers certification Seiko Samurai and upgrade to a sapphire crystal for the money you'd be saving

    I am gonna get one of these and then immediately go get stranded on a desert island to justify the purchase.
    To break in your average factory leather or canvas Seiko strap, you can just pour gasoline on it and then just strike a match and put it on the strap.

    Dont Agree, Nice cheap watch for the starter, nothing special if you already have some serious Seiko clocks then don't hesitate,
    or you have to use her as a daily change watch or once for the holidays. For me a return.
