I'm looking forward to when you get to "Fox on the Run." To me that's their most iconic song and that's the one that's gonna make you SCREAM "Let's go!"
Please, Please, Please, Listen to the extended Version of This, nearly 7 mins, You appreciate great music, It will blow your mind, honestly, the arrangement is unbelievable, Andy's Guitar, Steve's Bass, Brian's Vocal, And not forgetting Mick's Drums, what a unit, all Rock God's, But Mick inspired me so much, It was He that made me take up drums, he was the Number One in my book.
Any of the Musikladen videos are great! No You Dont, Action, Blockbuster, and for the drummer, The Man With The Golden Arm. Thanks for your reactions to these guys. I love them!
Such a great song! The singer, Brian Connely, lived such a tragic life before he passed away. This song always brings a tear to my eyes because it was the beginning of the downfall of the band and Brian. You should check out the extended version of this song, soooo much better.
A lot of people say "The" Sweet, but it's just Sweet. Sorry to be pedantic but that's their name. Glad your digging a bit deeper into this great band. Don't forget Slade.
@@setonhillstudios Initially they called themselves The Sweet Shop, then The Sweet, and finally just Sweet. I, personally, can’t get out of the habit of calling them The Sweet! Lol
I recently spent 2 nights/gigs and 2 Q&A sessions with fans for Andy Scott's 75th birthday. He explained the history that we all already knew as fans, first it was The Sweet then Sweet. But he said it doesn't matter, and never really did. So chill out about it.
Hellraiser will blow your mind! Very heavy! No You Don’t rocks hard too. Desolation Boulevard release from 1974 is a 9.5/10 record! Mick Tucker as I told u before is a phenomenal drummer.
I've been a huge fan of Sweet since the 70s, and as a few others have stated, you must check out their Musikladen concert from 1974. It shows what a tight, hard rock band they actually were and displays what an amazing drummer Mick Tucker was. Some of the highlights of that show for me were Sweet F.A., The Six Teens and The Man with the Golden Arm. Also check out Set Me Free live versions from around that time.
This was the 1st cassette tape I ever bought (Sweet's Level Headed) strictly for this song, because it wasn't available as a 45 single. Which is kind of fitting because the album art is literally the inside of a cassette tape deck.
Love your appreciation of all these classic tracks from the 70s and 80s 🙏🏽 Next bangers (in my opinion) from Sweet: Fox on the run, Blockbuster, Hellraiser, Teenage Rampage, Action, Done me wrong, Sixt teens ✌️
Check out their Musikladen Live from 1974. Phenomenal show. Great songs like Solid Gold Brass, Sweet F.A., No You Don't, Breakdown, Turn It Down and Man With The Golden Arm. They really rock out.
You're not kidding. Those live videos from German TV are incredible and highlight how talented Sweet is. Much heavier than a song like Love Is Like Oxygen (awesome in it's own right).
That is from a German pop show called Disco '74 (always followed by the number of the year 75, etc.) and it was all still playback, but at least an alternative to what we call "Schlager".
My friend is a drummer and he used to stay with me on the weekends after he got off work. He would always try to play my guitar because I would show him some chords. This was one of the first songs I showed him how to play since it was simple.
@setonhillstudios Yes, it took a while before he could form those bar chords. I always thought those were easiest for me when I first was learning to play guitar. Lol.
I am seeing a lot of this for the first time - we didn’t have a TV then. Noticing Brian Connolly’s face looks puffy - and the left side of his mouth does not lift quite level any more. He said that after the attack where he got a head injury, his voice did not have the same range as before, but it looks like it did more than that. You often see when people have had a mini stroke or concussion, their apparent quick recovery actually leaves deficits.

Round 2. Great choice man. Keep on rockin to Sweet. One of my top 10 bands all time. So says the old rocker😂. Recommend the song Set Me Free for the heavy side of them. Sadly Andy Scott the guitarist is the only member still kicking and rocking!👍👍🤘🤘
The album that this song is off was the last one with Brian, tragic what he did to himself. A bit of a departure from the previous four albums but quality. In my humble opinion Mick is hugely underrated, as good a drummer as anyone, check out the drum intro to She Gimme Lovin' , blows me away every time. Yeah, I can't back this version since it doesn't have the middle part. This is just some song from the '70s. The album track is a masterpiece. Someone needs to edit this and put the middle part in it. Just cut to the still of the album for the video. Then cut back to this for the finish.
The first Sweet hit in the US was “Little Willy” Its rebellious and funny at the same time. Beautiful production!! Written and produced by Mike Chapman & Nicky Chinn who are absolutely legendary producers and songwriters. They’ve turned so many bands into hitmakers, you can’t count them all!
The Sweet allied themselves to the British 'Glam Rock' movement at the start of the 1970s, but were always more talented and in control of their narrative than some of their peers (who could only do that). This was, sadly, their last big hit in the UK and rather hints at what they could have been if the drag of their reputation in previous years hadn't held them back.
It’s the law when play a Sweet song then Slade has to follow. Any one of their 6 No.1s so Cum on feel the Noize or Mama we’er all crazee now…. Both covered by Quiet Riot
Being a vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist myself, this was one of my favorite songs by this band. However, I think you would have enjoyed it even more had you listened to the album version because it's a lot longer. So, you missed a really cool dynamic musical shift in the song during the middle by not listening to the album version. There is also an official video for the longer album version as well, so you won't have to just listen to the audio cut. Cool reaction.
I commented on Ballroom Blitz saying no Sweet no Motley Crue ect. But everyone on RUclips mention This song or Love is like oxygen. I always preferred Hellraiser more of a rock song. Live at the Rainbow 73
Hey man, always enjoy your reactions. Sweet on their deeper cuts were actually a full on hard rock/metal band. Listen to hard rock bangers like "No You Don't" and "Sweet F.A." Those tunes were loud and will blow you away. Thanks.
Hey man, just one of my favorite bands if you’d like this drummer check out some golden earring. If you haven’t already your drummers and piece as well as vocal spot on the whole van is good.
Sweet is really an underrated band that influenced bands like Motley Crue etc. Anything off Desolation Boulevard is great but most successful is the song Fox On The Run.
This reminds me a bit of 10cc another great British band from the 70's but for me, compared to Sweet they were next level and wrote their own stuff. Hits included: - Rubber Bullets, The Wall street shuffle, Life is a minestrone and their biggest hit - I'm not in love (with innovative use of their voices on tape loops). Cheers.
Next song by Sweet that you'll like is "Little Willy" or "Fox On The Run". I knew you'd like this song. It's great to see reactions to the music I grew up with because I loved it so much, both then and still now!
Little Willy was the first song I heard by Sweet.I was 10 yrs old.Its one of those songs that's part of your life.I thought it was the best song I ever heard back then.Still love it today.Same way with Fox on the Run.
Fox on the Run or the Six Teens would be nice I’m a drummer like you and I have been playing for over 40 years two songs I would also recommend for a drummer to listen to would be Black Dog by Led Zeppelin and Message in a Bottle by The Police.
Geez, look how bloated Brian is from alcohol here. Pretty sad really. I know one of his daughters who lives here in the USA. I'm not sure he knew about her, but she has a beautiful voice. This is the first song I ever learned all the way through on drums. I was ten or eleven years old at the time. Fox on the Run, Sweet FA, or AC DC next... EDIT: This is the short version of the song, listen to the one on Level Headed...

Some songs I'd recommend of theirs: Yesterday's Rain, Keep It In, White Mice, Set Me Free, Sweet F.A., Burning.
Fabulous
Next song by Sweet that you'll like is "Little Willy" or "Fox On The Run". I knew you'd like this song. It's great to see reactions to the music I grew up with because I loved it so much, both then and still now!
So glad you enjoyed it! This was such a well composed song with an excellent hook! Excited about hearing more!
Check out "Little Willy" and "Fox on the Run" next!
You need to hit Little Willy and Fox on the Run
Geez, look how bloated Brian is from alcohol here. Pretty sad really. I know one of his daughters who lives here in the USA. I'm not sure he knew about her, but she has a beautiful voice. This is the first song I ever learned all the way through on drums. I was ten or eleven years old at the time. Fox on the Run, Sweet FA, or AC DC next...
EDIT: This is the short version of the song, listen to the one on Level Headed...
