For the second time on the channel, we are checking out Electric Light Orchestra with their song "Mr. Blue Sky." This was such an amazing song with so many epic musical moments! I loved the composition of this tune with the strings, counter melodies, and overall arrangement. This band is so unique and continues to amaze me every time I hear them! Such an amazing song that puts a smile on your face! What's next from ELO?!
Well, since you asked what else to check out by ELO, my answer is EVERYTHING they ever recorded!❤ Great job
Beat me to it, there is no such animal as a mediocre ELO song
Yep. What he said! Jeff Lynne is the GOAT
Everything... and then some. Like Jeff's productions of other artists, including George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, the Beatles etc. And Jeff's early works in his first group, the Idle Race. And the Move. And the Travelling Wilburys.
@@amicouvillionwilson1824Agree. Here is the News is a banger that goes under the radar.
ELO deserves a deeper dive, you won't be disappointed.
This is the happiest song ever written…..
Apparently John Lennon was once asked what the Beatles would have sounded like if they had not broken up. He replied "listen to ELO"😊😊
This song is the end of a multi part suite called Concerto For A Rainy Day, which is why the end is so different. It's the coda of the suite. Jeff Lynne is one of the greatest musical geniuses of our time! You should check out Turn To Stone, Don't Bring Me Down, I'm Alive, Ma Ma Ma Belle, or their version of Rollover Beethoven. Those are just some of my favorites, but you can't go wrong with anything from their New World Record Album! It's got Telephone Line, Do Ya, and Rockaria! That whole album is amazing, as well as the Out of the Blue album, which is where this song comes from. They have so many great songs. I forgot to mention Can't Get It Out of My Head, Strange Magic, Livin' Thing, Sweet Talkin' Woman, and Evil Woman. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but like I said, they had so many great songs, especially in the 70's!
ELO Telephone Line - always a favourite of mine
Telephone line at Wembley Stadium. Nothing better. I love the video and the audience getting into the song. Young and old alike.

Enjoy!
A great reaction to an epic band
thank you. Telephone Lines is a classic song by ELO & definitely worth a listen.
Telephone Line*. But yes you are right it's a great song.
I am a MASSIVE fan of ELO!!! My sister saw them live in concert in the 70's but I was a little too young to go. I used to listen to her albums and they also had so much airplay it was just incredible!!! I soon fell in love with their music and have been ever since!! They are definitely wonderfully gifted musicians and singer/songwriters and some of my fav songs from all of their albums are "Mister Blue Sky", "Telephone Line", "Midnight Blue" is one of my all time favs! "Evil Woman", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Last Train to London", "Livin' Thing", "Turn to Stone", "Showdown", "Can't Get it Out of My Head", "Strange Magic" is another one of my fav's as well as "Livin' Thing"! "Need Her Love", "Twilight", "On the Run", "Wishing", "Magic", "Alright", "Just for Love", "One Summer Dream" and on and on and on!! An excellent more recent live performance you can see on RUclips is the Zoom Tour Live and it's PHENOMENAL!!!!
❤ it is the happiest song in the world LOL
What to check out? EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!
Telephone line, It's a Living Thing, Strange Magic, Can't Get It Out of My Head to mention a few.💋
Oh yes Strange Magic and Can’t Get It Out of My Head! 👌
ELO were enormous. So unique. Huge catalogue.
I suggest "Roll Over Beethoven" (yes, covering Chuck Berry), and "Turn to Stone". 🔥🔥🔥
They are doing their last tour RIGHT NOW so if you are anywhere near, GO! Their shows are just pure joy.
In case you missed it, this was the last track on the first side of the vinyl album... With the instruction to "Please turn me over" at the end
Check out Tightrope, Showdown, Evil Woman, Livin Thing and Can't Get It Out Of My Head. They're sone of ELO's best tunes.
Jeff Lynne is a music genius...you can check all of ELO👍...he also is a great composer for other Stars like Roy Orbison,Tom Petty,Joe Cocker and many more...He also was the Founder and Mastermind of the Supergroup "The Travelling Wilburys" ...
I saw ELO live in 2018 ..great Gig👍
ELO songs you should definitely check out.... "Hold On Tight" "Evil Woman" "Telephone Line" the latter song is so good it brings a tear to my eyes...."Don't Bring Me Down" " Strange Magic" "The Diary Of Horace Wimp".... And soooo many more.
Great reaction, & I'm so happy you enjoy this phenomenal band. ❤🎼🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ooooo, yes! I always forget about Hold On Tight but it’s so good!!
Showdown, Evil Woman, Telephone Line, Strange Magic are all worth a listen
It's amazing how many hits you forgot they have - their greatest hits album is massive!!
the happiest song ever written
So many favorites from ELO, ever song is a standout. " Rockaira " is my choice for the next listen too.
Great reaction….. 5 tracks that you will dig,
1) Fire On High ❤️
2) Showdown ❤️
3) Can’t Get It Out Of My Head ❤️
4) Strange Magic ❤️
5) Turn To Stone ❤️
……all bangers ❤️🎸🔥
I hope this music makes a comeback. It could mean that people can become more united. Movies and music tend to reflect the mood of the people.
It always makes me happy to listen to Mr Blue Sky. Glad you tried it.
Rock and roll is king. One of their best
ELO was one of the major musical groups when I was a youngster. Can't even begin to list all the awesome songs. Just pick one, you can't go wrong.😊
ELO - " Last Train To London (Official Video) FANTASTIC 70s JAM 🎸🎹 🎻🔥🎶 If you haven't heard this one its hot the same Energy Vibe
ELO are currently on tour in America at the moment.
"Rockaria" manages to be a banger that includes aspects of opera.
Mr Blue Sky was made with a 30 piece orchestra and a 20 person vocal section, Jeff Lynne and his 6 band members. The song Mr Blue Sky features a heavily vocoded voice singing the phrase "Mr. Blue Sky". A second vocoded segment at the end of the song was often interpreted by listeners as "Mr. Blue Sky"; it is actually "Please turn me over" as it is the end of side three, and the listener is being instructed to flip the LP over. This was confirmed by Jeff Lynne on 3 October 2012 on The One Show.
diary of horace wimp is beyond fantastic
Jeff lynne is a genius everything he touches turns to elo
You have to live in the UK and experience the weather to realise just how happy a song this is! The story goes that Jeff Lynne thought a cowbell would be good for each of those groups of 4 beats but there wan't one available so they used an empty fire extinguisher instead!
Take a listen to 'Wild West Hero', you won't be disappointed!
American here, I have applied the Blue Shy reference to those rare days when the temperatures/humidity suit one's personal preference. Makes them rare days indeed. One can almost walk around bouncing on one's toes to the beat of this tune. Personally, temperatures in the mid-70s F with humidity
@@rebeccalipps23 I wish you many, many more of those moments, Rebecca - in fact, a whole life's worth!
just saw them 2 weeks ago great show. This and telephone line were the encore performance. my wife was pregnant with our first son when this came out, and of course we cranked the music, funny part, ELO is still one of HIS favorite bands 46 YRS Later.
ELO is awesome! Not sure if anyone has mentioned yet, this is the song that’s playing during the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
One of the all time greats Mr Blue Sky.
Also check out 'Turn to Stone' !
The Hyde Park concert is amazing too and worth a watch
Its the last song on side 3. Hence “Please turn me over” at the end.
Had this album as a kid. Loved it. Jeff Lynn is a genius, he was also in the Travelling Wilburys.
Still got mine and it gets played from time to time - as do they all!
Great song to clean house to- on a car ride- or anytime! It will elevate your mood!!
Mr Blue Sky and the 3rd side of their album Out of the Blue, called Concerto for a rainy day, is a masterpiece! They have a ton of hits!!
Wall to wall classics! Rockaria a personal favorite.
I wish I'd been able to see these guys live, but they only toured Australia in the '70's, so I missed that, being a baby and all. I get why it's hard for them to tour long distance though, they're not lying when they say 'orchestra', between logistics and a whole lotta paycheques. lol. Thanks for the awesome reaction. 'Don't Bring Me Down' is a must. ✌❤
Tightrope is a Must
Jeff Lynne is 78 Yrs Old Now Announced ELOs Final Tour 2024/2025 You Gotta See Them Live
My fave by them among MANY faves from them is either Across the Border or Showdown.
Ha! I commented on your Journey 'Don't Stop Believin' reaction that this was another of those songs that seems to bring joy to the listener, no matter who you are. See? It's true! I've still never seen anyone react to this song without smiling.
It’s impossible!!! 😁
ELO has a deep catalog, and it's safe to say if you like one of their songs you'll like all of them. They have such a distinct sound, and Jeff Lynn is a genius producer/musician. There are lots of good suggestions for next tracks in the comments here, but I'll throw in Fire On High; it's almost all instrumental with an absolutely wicked guitar.
I just saw Jeff do this song live in Cleveland, and it was even more astonishing!
You've got to hear the album version that continues the outro.
Wild West Hero and The Diary Of Horace Wimp are two of my favourite ELO tracks
Rockaria!
It is the happiest song ever
Bev Bevan is a brilliant drummer
So many great songs, here's a few:-
Shine a Little Love, Confusion, Strange Magic, Tightrope, Sweet Talkin Woman, Yours Truly 2095, Don't Walk Away, Cant Get It out of my head, The Diary of Horace Wimp
Oh yes Confusion and Diary of Horace Wimp!!
"Jeff Lynne loved the Beatles so much, that he ate them" - David Quantick / Blagger's Guide. Electric Light Orchestra were amazing, and the rabbit hole is massive. It leads to Electric Light Orchestra, The Move, Wizzard, The Travelling Wilburies. So much good music.
Tonnes of classics such as Shangri-la, Sweet Talking Woman, Turn to Stone, Evil Woman, Telephone Line, Tightrope, Showdown, Can't Get it Out of my Head, The Diary of Horace Wimp, Strange Magic, Roll Over Beethoven, Hold on Tight, Mister Kingdom, Last Train to London, Confusion, Shine a Little Love, Don't Bring Me Down, All Over the World and lots more.
Jeff Lynn was also part of the Traveling Wilburys, whom (I think) you have reacted to before.
Lynne*
Showdown is a must listen. Great song.
Their "Rock N Roll is King" is another bouncy one with several Rock elements blended as only ELO can do.
In the 70's A New World Record by ELO was the soundtrack to an entire summer of my youth. It's also my favorite album by them (of course).
Can't wait to see and hear them play this next month! Been a fan for 50 years.
Oh wow!! Gonna be a blast I’m sure! 🎶
Essential songs from ELO : "Evil Woman", "Turn to Stone", "Strange Magic", "Don't Bring me Down", "Telephone Line". to start.
My oldest boy is an old soul like yourself. He is 20 now and every since he was a child. The Music of these older bands have appealed to him. In first grade he did a book report on John Lennon. His teacher was so baffled he got an A+++ as for ELO this is his favorite band of all time and we are going to see them next week at the Boston Garden. They have not come to Boston in over 40 years and this will be the last time they tour. You can hear the later years of the Beatles wall of sound era which is why the surviving Beatles had Jeff Lynne produce John Lennon's unfinished demos and made them new Beatles songs in 1995. Try to decipher through that word salad Steven. I cannot wait to see them myself. Everything you hear with the big orchestration they is executed in all of their live performances. Naturally there are not many original members left, but all the stuff runs through the creator Jeff Lynne. Not only an elite composer but engineer and producer as well. Jeff was also one of the Traveling Wilbury;s Supergroup of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison. & Tom Petty in the late 80's
Thanks for the info and so cool that your son has taken such an interest in music! Always special when your children share the same passion as you do!
@@setonhillstudios in reality Steven despite me being a lot older than you. Look at what you’re covering. You’re reviewing songs from generations before you for a reason. I hate sounding like that get off my lawn old guy, but have you listened to today’s music over the last 10-15 years? There is nothing organic about the large majority of it. No successful artist today especially the solo artists are not writing their own material & Bands of today? your lucky if they are even playing thier instruments for real or singers not using back tracks or lip syncing. I cannot name a new band out today that I can picture being around in 20 years or standing the test of time. You’re old enough to remember what it was like that buying a new album or CD was a physical event. You looked at the art work, you read the linear notes and you had MTV. Consuming music today is just lazy as are most of the new performers. Lady Gaga and Pink are the last Mohegan’s of pure talent as for bands. I think Twenty One Pilots are legit. You will not be reviewing Music from 2024 twenty years from now but you will still be saying Let’s Get into it from the 70’s 80’s & 90’s because your still just opening doors
You can't go wrong with Jeff Lynne and ELO. This is one of the happiest songs ever, and love the video that shows how they really are an orchestra. So many of their songs have been used in pop culture and may sound familiar without knowing it is ELO. Even an episode of "Dr. Who" (Love & Monsters) featured many of their songs. My favorite of theirs is "Turn to Stone".
Love listening to this while I'm doin road trips❤ n Love,Love ELO❤😊❤
Such a great tune!! ❤️
Those four clanking sounds were actually made by hitting a fire extinguisher that was in the studio when they were recording with a metal rod. This video is playing over the studio recording. It gave them the sound they were looking for... For a while, the drummer had a fire extinguisher as part of his kit.
That’s wild and so creative! Thanks for sharing! 🔥
This one is a masterpiece and their signature song.
I can remember, that i bought this song back in the days on a blue vinyl-single!
You might recognise Jeff Lynne as one of the Travelling Willburys! Everything Jeff does is magical. Try Turn to Stone/Don't Bring me Down/Livin' Thing/Evil Woman - Basically anything by ELO.
This band gave us soooooo many great songs. Still listen to them regularly. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do Ya and Sweet Talkin' Wonan are two of their best.
Do Ya was originally recorded by The Move in 1972 when Jeff was a member.
Happiest song ever😊
💯 😁
This is my favorite ELO song. Another great song is "Evil Woman".
Jeff Lynne is the writer of most of ELO’s songs. He’s also part of The Traveling Wilburys.
@@belvagurr403 Such an incredible artist! I checked out one tune from The Traveling Wilburys here on the channel not too long ago and loved it!
I saw them in tge 70s. I was 12. Amazing!!! ❤✌️
Great song! Love this group. ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Rockaria!", "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Last Train To London", "Hold On Tight" etc.
🇬🇧
Hey SteVen (with a V) ELO are my ALL TIME number 1 favourite group. I'm so happy you're reacting to them today. Their catalogue of songs are top notch, & I mean every song is wonderful (IMO 😬) ❤🎼🎶🔥🔥
Brother! I know you would appreciate the song Tightrope but seriously this band has so many great songs. Show Down, Evil Woman m, Telephone Line, Strange Magic, Turn To Stone, Living Thing, and more. Great reactions thx
Jeff Lynne (who comes from home City of Birmingham, UK) and is a great musician and producer. E.L.O. have loads of great songs and my favourite is 'All Over The World'. They sounded just as good (if not better) live than they did on the studio versions. Jeff was still singing at concerts just before the pandemic started. He is now doing his last tour at the age of nearly 77. He was also part of the super group 'Traveling Wilburys' with George Harrison (The Beatles), Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
Hard to believe not everyone on the planet hasn't heard this song before
🤷🏻♂️
I’m constantly amazed at how so many music lovers have had such a different musical journey than my own - especially when they don’t seem to be “I’ve only ever heard hip-hop” people. ELO has been part of my life since the mid-1970s (as has Queen, another favorite here).
Jeff is also part of the line up that does “while my guitar gently weeps” check out the video and story behind it.
Are you talking about Jeff Lynne performing at the concert for George (Harrison)?
Yeah, the one where Prince outshines everyone 😂😂
@@brownsfamily24 Sorry but Prince didn't perform at The Concert For George. You seem a bit muddled up.🤷♂
@@CB-xr1eg ok, so it’s the 2004 Rock and Roll hall of fame tribute to George Harrison ruclips.net/video/dWRCooFKk3c/видео.htmlsi=qW0KgDowpLGsaSrn sorry for not getting my reference from memory, exactly right🤷♂️🧐
The “gong” you can hear is actually Bev hitting a fire extinguisher….
The drummer Bev Bevan struck the side of a fire extinguisher, to get the clang-clang-clang-clang at the end of verses, and other key points. So hitting the gong is just playback on the wrong instrument. The video had a lot of people fooled at the end. The letters showed 'mister blue sky', but the vocoder vocal actually says: 'please turn me over', since it was the end of side 3 of the vinyl album or the end of side A of the single.
They tour with a fire extinguisher for this song.
That whole side, Concerto For A Rainy Day, was based on Jeffs time, i think in Switzerland, trying to write some new songs. It had been rainy weather until Mr. Blue Sky cane out.
Great song and reaction
Thank ya! 😁
ELO drummer Bev Bevan performed with Black Sabbath for the Born Again album tour. He didn't play on the album though.....
Jeff and the band went to this Swiss chalet to write a follow up to A New World Record. The weather was dark, rainy and gloomy. Then one day the Sun Suddenly Shone and it was “Wow, look at those beautiful Alps” and he wrote Mr Blue Sky.
I’ve watched a few of yours tonight and you’ve taken me back to my youth. Thanks. 😁👍🏾
So awesome! Thanks for hanging out and so glad you are enjoying the channel! 😁
Dude, Love your enthusiasm for GREAT music.
Let's GOOO
Really appreciate it! Thanks so much for hanging out! 😁
Just saw them live in Cleveland a couple days ago. Was amazing, and a sold out arena!
Oh wow!! That’s awesome! Appreciate you sharing! 🔥
Turn to stone is one of my favorite's. Give it a try!
Mr. Blue Sky, Saturday in the Park, Jump are my go to happy songs ..
elo has been a absolute fav of mine since i was a youngin
Jeff was a GENIUS
So amazing!! 🤯
Shangri La is another great ELO tune.
Just saw ELO live a couple weeks ago any tune that you pick out is awesome!
That’s awesome!!! 🤘🏻
Seton Hill Studios: I’ve been listening to (and loving) the music of Jeff Lynne & Bev Bevan (drummer) since they were in the band ‘The Move’ with bassist Roy Wood. (They did the original versions of “Do Ya” & “California Man”. Both of which have been covered by many artists.) ELO first got really noticed when Marc Bolan (T.Rex) played guitar on their song “Ma Ma Ma Bell” in 1974. Their strings are what make them so wonderful. I NEVER get tired of the original ELO. Perfect combination of classical & rock. “RockAria” was a huge hit for them and the song I’d suggest next. It’s simply perfect!
Thanks so much for the suggestion and the insight! This was an awesome tune and can’t wait to continue discovering more from this incredible band! Have a great one!
I was about to say it's great you have checked out possibly the best feel-good song in the world, but you already said it sound like the happiest song in the world.
I remember hearing this song and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody as a child in the mid to to late 70's, and back then, they were my two favourite songs to listen to on the radio. The orchestral parts and the harmonies were really fun to listen to. Hearing these now take me back to a 4 year old.
Check out Evil Woman, Livin' Thing or Telephone Line
Oh wow this is the opening song for Guardian of the Galaxy 2. I knew this song. But I forgot about it. Lol
God bless
✌️✌️ & ❤❤
An enthusiastic reaction to an all time classic, thank you. ELO provided many brilliant songs, suggest you try 10538 Overture, an early song, sit back, shut your eyes, and you think you are listening to the Beatles, but IMO, something much better.
