Dont be so hard on yourself. You leaving the brake on didnt destroy your brake. It was getting due for replacement. Those brake locks getting left on is a common occurrence, usually just makes some smoke and takes some life off of the pads. Aftermarket brake linings are reasonably priced but I prefer the AGCO linings. They are a kevlar coated metal plate meaning they cant brake and fall off like yours did. They also dont glaze over. 5 times the price of aftermarket linings but worth it. Keep up the good work.
Those loaded tires can be very dangerous. I had one pin me up against a car when it over powered me doing a brake job on a Massey. I could not upright it . I had no one to help me so, I had to let it scrape down the front of my legs then get my feet out from under it. Very painful lesson. I always now have a overhead support of some type just in case.
This video will be good for folks who might own these tractors, so they can save some money and repair it themselves! Thanks again for sharing Farmer Pete and sharing your knowledge.
I'm glad I didnt have to do the brakes on my 45! Everybody says what a bear they are. Other that the added work of removing the wheel and final drive, that dont look like too bad of a job.
Yeah I don't know why Allis had to complicate something so simple as brakes. I did a 190XT back in the late 70's and it was a learning experience. Good luck bro, I hope the parts aren't too salty.
just did brake job on a wd45 you dont have to pull final drive of just 180 and 170 been doing allis brakes on wc wd wd45 d17s all my life!! they now have a puller for the pits!! and l always replaced pin with nonstick pins last one we did pulled pins out with my fingers but a lot of the pins are old style and come out very hard! l will be watchin!!!
Love those gloves, I've gone through several pairs. Is that an old Artic Cat sitting behind the Allis? Yeah, not an easy fix but at least farming can continue while waiting on parts.
Great job diagnosing the problem, Pete. Out of all the repairs we did on our Allis tractors over the years, the one I dreaded the most was the brake jobs! We never had the right tools and had to resort to the smoke wrench more times than I would care to admit. Wow! Shop crane, impact wrenches, this is really fun to watch how easy it could have been. 👀
I was surprised your brake latch actually worked to cause that much damage. My 180 has a stick for a parking brake. Parking brakes wasn't Allis Chalmers best feature. But at least it doesn't pop out of third going down hill!
Hopefully, the ground wire is unhooked on the batteries. Getting awful close to the positive terminal with brake parts
Thanks for making this video it was very informative. Wish you had shown how you removed the tire and wheel.

I think this is easier than a WD45.
Good day I watched oldjunkfarmer take a D=17 apart for brake Be careful with back tires , I did W-4 with fluid in alone. Thanks
Thanks! Yes, I'm careful with those heavy things.

Thanks! Looks like parts aren't too scary.

Yes, an Arctic Cat and 3 Yamahas. Haven't been run in years. I should load them up and take them to a snowmobile auction this fall.

Good info! That was a lot more involved than I thought it would be lol
Thanks! It's really not too bad.

Good day Gary Bridger What is the problem with 3 gear. At a auction fellow jump on & tried 3 gear, ending up buying it Thanks
@@donvoll2580 that is the one to buy. Always drive them first. The one I have my brother drove up and down the hill at the dealers to make sure.
The brake latch on this one works darn good. It's a 71. I don't think this tractor has been abused.
