You got a good point. 5 years later after the events in the originals, everybody grew up happily except for Satoko who was the only one who couldn't move on. And after becoming a looper and finding out that Rika has been looping too, she started to see their older friends as nothing and her experimenting on them doesn't count since she could just go to another world anyway.
I haven't been able to watch the new episode yet because I'm waiting for my friend to get off work but I'm very sure now that Satoko will be saved. At 1:01 Rika is reaching her hands out to save Satoko even if she wouldn't return the favor like in the Gou opening. Higurashi is about friends working together to defeat an enemy that actively harms them all. Eua is Takano this time and Satoko has to trust her friends as she gets older.
If you look closely at the Gou opening, Rika is reaching forward, and in her eyes, a pair of hands which reach for her are reflected. Those are obviously Satoko's hands. In S1, it felt like that was Satoko luring Rika into a trap, but after watching the S2 OP, I now understand that Satoko was actually reaching out to Rika because she wants to be saved. And in S2 OP, Rika's hand finally reaches her.

It's just personal perception but I think the gang looks like that to show how Satako isn't trusting her friends kinda like rika did. Could be wrong buts that what I think when i see that part
I think that the same memory "accumulation" that made Teppei or Takano atone for their sins is going to affect them, but in the other direction. The constant hell they'll go through the following years (and they will be the most likely receivers or Satoko's injections) will affect them and I think that they'll start trigger HS even without injections, just with some kind of PTSD alone. That's why Satoko's disappearing in the darkness in 1:00 - eventually her ultimate powers to influence reality are going to stop working as intended. And Rika is going to catch her to help her to clean this mess.
The part with Satoko running looks so so gorgeouss-!! Omg- Not only that but the anime itself looks so much prettier, i also noticed them additing certain extra frames in scenes like they're not always completely still they move around and stuff. Studio Passione is doing an amazing job so far, can't wait to see more

Am I going to walk away from this being made to feel that Higurashi was all a pointless nothing that doesn’t really matter? This idea that it’s an infinite loop brought on by a “logic error” makes it sound like all my beloved characters are just going to suffer for eternity with no possibility of resolution, and if this is the case I’m just going to drop Umineko. Seems like a cruel thing to do as a writer, not only to your readers but your characters as well.

A very cool opening, rapresents perfectly the change of the main character, starts with Rika in a way similiar to Gou Opening, in the middle Rika "go to sleep" and Satoko "wake up" and in second half is all Satoko point of view. Simple, but effective. Finally after 4 Seasons an Opening explicit with Eua, the Sea of Fragments, the Red Eyes... No more mysteries, it's time for the Outro.

The overall mystery was solved, there was no need for them to re-tell the exact same story while also REUSING scenes from Gou just to go in-depth with the solutions, because it would have gotten repetitive; the answers should have been alluded to so instead of being explicitly told so, even the VN's answer arcs were not the exact same setting but parallel to their question arc counterparts in order to keep things fresh. In Gou the mystery was solved and in Sotsu they were just beating a dead horse. Then there is the rushed and cop-out ending. The whole battle between Eua and Hanyuu was utterly unclimactic and completely ridiculous, even by Umineko standards. Satoko seems to get off scot-free despite having murdered her friends and others countless times and Rika seems to be pissed off more over her refusing to study. And then there is my own personal expectations being crushed which doesn't really matter, but I was hoping for a Umineko prequel.

Satoko realizes that while she chased the one friend that drifted away, she failed to recognize the importance and capability of the others until they all turn against her. Hell, even the ending shot with the fragments implied that everyone (save for shion) would be important in the season or at least in the finale Instead we just got the Abusive Satoko show :(

You included Rei, why didn't you do the same with Kira? (If you didn't know, the first episode of Kira was terrible but that doesn't mean the others were bad, especially episode 4, which made me almost cry) It is likely you only watched the first episode and quitted afterward. Most people would do the same. If possible, revisit it as the progression of the series can get better
I wonder if the intro will change this time too? Maybe the club members faces will be illuminated, and we'll see that they aren't smiling menacingly, and are looking at satoko with kindness and friendship. Or the part where they fly at each other dbz style could change to their witch forms if sotsu does end up going that direction
Here are all of the details that I was able to find: The intro starts with every character being at their friend's territory Keichi at the Dam Construction Rena at Keichi's house Shion at the Sonozaki's house (Mion's house) Mion at Saint Lucia (Maybe because Shion only has this place, don't understand why not Angel Mort) And then a scene Rena falling back, this might change for every arc And then, this is very cool, Rika ( more specifically, Bernkastel) closing her left eye and then Satoko opening her right eye, symbolizing Rika's power now belongs to Satoko The next scene has Hanyuu being held captive by Eua while she is yawning. This proves Eua's power is immensely stronger than Hanyuu And then, the two girls, which are Rika and Satoko, clashing together with the former has a blue aural and the latter being green (shouldn't it be orange?) After that, teenage Satoko is the one who is running with the end goal is Rika. This shows that Rika is not the only one who is suffering as Satoko has also been enduring it in Saint Lucia. Suddenly, Satoko falls back to a dark void, telling us that Satoko is starting to lose hope until Rika catches her hand. This might be because of the club reunion in GOU where Rika was back to being friends with Satoko. And then, in Satoko eyes are her friends but all of the faces somehow are covered up. Maybe Satoko started not to care about them?
I think the eye part is not a symbolism of the power, but of the change in the Point of View, probably in Sotsu we see everything from Satoko instead of Rika, except the last Arc, just like GOU. Or maybe is like what you said don't know😐😅
My take on the final part is that while Rika catches Satoko 's hand , Satoko sees the image of her friends in a dark tone which represents she still can't accept the future even though everyone is smiling .
There is something I think might happen. I think that Rika gets know that the culprit is Satoko, she will try to play it cool next loop. I sense, from the op, that she will be indifferent towards Satoko. Damn, I really can't wait to see how everything ends up. Hopefully we get a witch ending.

As much as I loved Gou and Soutsu.... Am I the only one who really wanted Rika to just end Satoko. I did enjoy the ending with their issues getting resolved... and I get they are like sisters and dont want to be apart but Satoko's reasoning for torturing Rika (and hurting all their friends) are ridiculous, childish and selfish. I never liked her when i saw the first 2 seasons as a kid. Watched it again as an adult and really liked her character. Then this came out.... I love the entirety of the when they cry series. She just irritates me. I'm glad she snapped out of that witch crap.

i think my by far favorite thing about this op is showing young satoko in the water reflection when she's running

I wonder if the intro will change this time too? Maybe the club members faces will be illuminated, and we'll see that they aren't smiling menacingly, and are looking at satoko with kindness and friendship. Or the part where they fly at each other dbz style could change to their witch forms if sotsu does end up going that direction

Here are all of the details that I was able to find:
The intro starts with every character being at their friend's territory
Keichi at the Dam Construction
Rena at Keichi's house
Shion at the Sonozaki's house (Mion's house)
Mion at Saint Lucia (Maybe because Shion only has this place, don't understand why not Angel Mort)
And then a scene Rena falling back, this might change for every arc
And then, this is very cool, Rika ( more specifically, Bernkastel) closing her left eye and then Satoko opening her right eye, symbolizing Rika's power now belongs to Satoko
The next scene has Hanyuu being held captive by Eua while she is yawning. This proves Eua's power is immensely stronger than Hanyuu
And then, the two girls, which are Rika and Satoko, clashing together with the former has a blue aural and the latter being green (shouldn't it be orange?)
After that, teenage Satoko is the one who is running with the end goal is Rika. This shows that Rika is not the only one who is suffering as Satoko has also been enduring it in Saint Lucia.
Suddenly, Satoko falls back to a dark void, telling us that Satoko is starting to lose hope until Rika catches her hand. This might be because of the club reunion in GOU where Rika was back to being friends with Satoko. And then, in Satoko eyes are her friends but all of the faces somehow are covered up. Maybe Satoko started not to care about them?
I think the eye part is not a symbolism of the power, but of the change in the Point of View, probably in Sotsu we see everything from Satoko instead of Rika, except the last Arc, just like GOU.

My take on the final part is that while Rika catches Satoko 's hand , Satoko sees the image of her friends in a dark tone which represents she still can't accept the future even though everyone is smiling .

There is something I think might happen. I think that Rika gets know that the culprit is Satoko, she will try to play it cool next loop. I sense, from the op, that she will be indifferent towards Satoko. Damn, I really can't wait to see how everything ends up. Hopefully we get a witch ending.

That is my main interpretation of what this opening means,however there is probably a couple things I missed and/interpreted incorrectly
Hmm to be honest, I am not even sure if the current looper Satoko could still be redeemed and forgiven. She's too corrupted and evil now. But I do want an ending where both Rika and Satoko are truly happy.

As much as I loved Gou and Soutsu.... Am I the only one who really wanted Rika to just end Satoko. I did enjoy the ending with their issues getting resolved... and I get they are like sisters and dont want to be apart but Satoko's reasoning for torturing Rika (and hurting all their friends) are ridiculous, childish and selfish. I never liked her when i saw the first 2 seasons as a kid. Watched it again as an adult and really liked her character. Then this came out.... I love the entirety of the when they cry series. She just irritates me. I'm glad she snapped out of that witch crap.
Not the only one, I also wanted her to do that. And I didn't feel that their issues got resolved, they just tired convincing and killing each other :/
