HOLY CRAP. Anyone just see that? He was PHENOMENAL. I thought that he might not make it to first tonight because it was wayyy too close for comfort. He was still in the lead, but only slightly and not by a landslide like usual, and it was anyone's fair game. But in the last second he pulled through, and literally by the hundredth of a second, he won! HOW IN THE HELL DOES HE DO IT? I love this guy! He's made me a fan for life! Why he wasn't this established before is beyond me.

Phelps just took off on that last turn passing the leader who was in the lead for two thirds of the race.

I think overall other than Michael Jordan Michael Phelps is one of the best athletes the USA has ever produced. Out of all the athletes in the world, his dominance, and impressive accomplishments make him the best athlete and a world wide phenomenon overall. Michael Phelps is a legend, and represents the best of what the USA stands for. He has a amazing gift, he has phenomenal swimming abilities and he can be considered one of the all time greats in Olympic history.

  • @deathbombs

amazing... phelps can break so many records and win 8/8 gold medals while under such immense pressure. he's a swimming machine!!!

What Michael Phelps has done is phenomenal and fabulous. He is clearly the greatest swimmer of all time, and one of the greatest Olympians of all time.
But for people to say he is the greatest athlete of all time?
Ike wants to know how Michael Phelps' recent performance is more impressive than Michael Jordan winning six NBA championships.

  • @xlilcutie93x

Phelps works harder than most people. 5 years of daily swimming and no breaks. And he's very disciplines and deserves every medal he wins. Amazing

  • @XXXXThemessiahx
    @XXXXThemessiahx 13 лет назад

Michael Phelps is the best athlete in the world in my opinion. While ESPN nominated Tiger Woods as athlete of the last decade to me Michael Phelps accomplishments are far most impressive. Mark Spitz holds the superior prestige for not having messed up outside the swimming pool and as a role model, but Michael Phelps is the best swimmer in the world. 14 Olympic gold medals and 2 Bronze medals, 16 Olympic medals overall, 26 world championships , 66 medals in international contests.

I am so very pleased to be an American. With Michael Phelps catapulting America's dominance the world over, I hope the world realizes -- finally -- that America is the best place to live - anywhere. America is great. If you don't live here, I feel sorry for you. But cheer up. You can always visit. Have a wonderfully happy day.

Someone should call Michael Phelps Captain America, because he is the best athlete in the planet other than best swimmer in the world. Sure there are amazing athletes in the world, but the impressive accomplishments of Michael Phelps is difficult for any athlete in the world to match with his amazing and superior accomplishments. He is one of the best athletes the USA has ever produced.

his turns are really good, especially his butterfly kicks off the wall. people that don't swim competitively really don't understand how fast this guy is. People are always on his back about the drug use thing, they're so negative. But you have to look at it from a swimmer's perspective, he's a beast. crazy fast. it looks like he's negative splitting each 50! that's skill, my friend.

For those who say he's doped, you should know he has voluntarily submitted to a new program where some of the athletes from the olympics are being tested twice as much as the other athletes, and many of the tests are state of the art, still experimental, testing for as many possible chemical agents as possible. He has come out negative every single time.

@thexdarkestx i totally agree after 100 yards your stroke begins to degenerate a little, but michael phelps is just so good, i thought that his stroke would just remain constant the entire time at two or three strokes per breath

Usain Bolt is a sprint specialist. Michael Phelps is an all-arounder. If Bolt enters the hurdles, 400, 800, long jump, and maybe the 4x4 if he has good teammates, then he will have 8 gold medals. 99% Swimmers worked their whole lives just for one or two events.

People need to lay off him for smoking marijuana. He's the world's best athlete now, the best ever Olympian, and one of the best athletes who ever lived. He's also a young man, so we need to excuse him for partying any other thing that comes naturally to a young handsome, extremely successful man. If I was in his boat, at his age, my reputation would be in tatters by now.

@EscarneoExquisito but swimming requires no teamwork or communication in comparison with other sports, so on that notion alone you can not say it is the hardest sport. Maybe you could say it is the most physically testing, but even that is hard to prove.

i have a question. how come when do the front crawl kick, my feet are pointed inwards for some reason and so i'm going REALLY slow when i just do the front crawl kicks. is there any way to fix that because i think my feet should be straight when i'm kicking. (i've been swimming for a few years now. i've learned with a few bullshit teachers therefore wasting some time. but i'm pretty good at it. i'm done all the levels, and i can be a lifeguard but i'm only 14 right now.

Do you think just anyone can swim 8 categories? It's hugely physically exhausting, he had to compete in 17 races and win 8--and got World Records in 7, and an Olympic Record in the other one. He may not be the "greatest Olympian" but he's definitely among the greatest.
