The Evora is so underrated it hurts. It's just as reliable as a Camry and it drives like a Cayman. It's also priced below the Cayman on the used market!

Well... This is basically the modern old NSX And the Lotus Elise is basically the modern MR-2. People really need to buy them more to let other manufacturers know that we REALLY WANT cars like that

I own a 400 I bought new and the two models are very similar. GT is more like a trim difference, but it's a nice improvement. Good review,. You capture the spirit of the thing. One correction I'd make from experience is that an Evora makes a better GT than you might think. Most owners tour them. I do, anyway. I have no problem taking it anywhere, and my wife is comfortable in it so it works as a GT and a hot rod. The Evora is on the way to becoming a modern collectible. They are reasonable to own compared to what you'd have to spend to duplicate the experience, which I think a Cayman or a cooking grade 911 will not quite do all things considered. Not knocking the Porsches which are excellent at what they do. As an owner I'm biased but I believe the Lotus is a more exciting car to drive everyday. I wish 90% of the people who have negative opinions about the Evora had actually ever seen one, never mind driven one. The lack of knowledge about the brand, demonstrated in the comments on every Lotus review, is one reason why they are undervalued. It has nothing to do with the car. Residual values prove this because these cars depreciate slowly. It will actually cost less car to car (retained value) to buy an Evora than a typical Cayman or 911, used or new apart from the Porsche ikons. Modern Lotus hold value and will continue to do so. Last of their kind.
Not only is that impressive, that Toyota engine is coupled with a supercharger on stock internals. Shows how stout that engine is. I wonder how much more boost it could handle...
I own the 2021 version as well as a Porsche GT3 RS, 2019. There is no comparison in the cars. One cost about $100K, the other with options almost three times that. But which is more enjoyable to actually drive? The Porsche is a monster, 7 speed PDK, giant wing, aero, etc etc. The steering and exhaust sound is absolutely stunning. But the Lotus more than holds it's own. It gets more attention on the street than the yellow GT3 RS. It has better road feel through the steering wheel. The sound, though not quite as raucous as the Porsche is just music in your ears. Absolutely enjoyable exhaust notes - raw and throaty. It is just really fun to drive. Is the Porsche worth almost 3x as much in the "fun to drive" department? No. Just very different experiences but for someone who can't have the Porsche - go drive one of these. You HAVE to drive it to get it. This reviewer captures well the thrill of doing so. Nothing like it.
I had a 1996 supercharged, etc NSX-T. It was a great car. Sold it and got a Fire Red Lotus Evora GT. It's everything you said it is! I made two aftermarket mods on it. GRP decat and cold air intake. Added some HP and made the sound even better. For overall performance and enough practicality, it's the best gas-powered car Lotus will ever make, and that includes the Emira.

That is a sweet a$$ car. A mid engine v6 with a supercharged toyota engine AND MANUAL :} It may not be the fastest car out there but I bet it is a lovely driving experience. Some cars are not only meant to go fast in a straight line.
I own one. Bought a new '18 400 and have never regretted that move, ever. A total hoot to drive, very nimble loads of grunt for that weight and a blast to drive. As for pricing, if you find a dealer that has had one on their lot a few months, or towards the end of the model year, you can negotiate a good deal, I did. Or, try and find a used one. One think the video does not tell is the build quality. I find it to be excellent, no shakes or rattles at all. I think the new 49% purchase by Geely (Chinese) has given Lotus a lifeline and they can focus on building really good cars. As was implied in the video, you get a lot of looks and stares. They are drop dead gorgeous and quite rare.
I think there’s some misunderstanding on what underrated means. Something can be overpriced, but underrated in terms of the hype/ appreciation surrounding that thing.
I wouldn't mind if the nsx has a detuned Type R engine as a base model NSX and the TLX Turbo V6 on higher trim. Especially when both comes with manual.
3:10 The cupholder being there is okay, just for the fact this Lotus got the manual transmission, which so many people are always happy to see like myself. And sometimes people complain a drink is in the way while shifting. So I'm okay with them doing that. More fun to drive the car quick, if you got a drink with you. Would only get annoying if you wanted a sip every 30 seconds literally. 😂 This car is cool as hell. Love how it sounds, and how it looks. Seems quick enough. I've always been a fan of the Lotus Elise, Exige, & Evora. I've seen maybe 3 in my whole lifetime, I believe they were all the Elise. A Lotus is rare to find, and this being in a city where you'll literally see every sports car. It's great that they still make them tho, I love seeing fun & different cars on the road.
I’ve driven this car & the Elise in different specs & they were all amazing to drive. I also drove a Porsche boxter also but they are just too much like a VW now ( like a posh TT) . I would choose lotus every day. Great drivers cars.👍🇬🇧
Totally worth the price of entry. It’s just so much more special and involving than a Cayman. I had a new Cayman loaner recently and I was bored to tears. It’s so numb compared to the Lotus driving experience, or even the 987 Cayman.
A couple of comments, The Evora GT or even the 400 is on my list of cars I'd like to own one day but the price tag is just out of the range. The reason I believe the price is so high is because lotus makes only limited amount of these vehicles or cars in general and to bring the cost down would mean pumping out more and more of these. Which is a hard to do to begin with and then they lose that "exotic" feel to them. I feel these get underrated because society is pushing for more gadgets within cars. Cars are becoming the new cellphone of the 2000's, Look at the new supra for example toyota I believe has said every year or two years, you will see updates to the engines, interiors, suspension which drives the costs up. Just the way the market is trending unfortunately... when these get down in price in 10/15 years... maybe one will be in the garage! Otherwise keep up the good work!!
I dunno if I would count the Alpine head unit as being a down side, at least unlike most more mainstream OEM's that have their infotainment shit linked to every little other control module imaginable on the car, at least it provides room for upgradability down the road once newer tech inevitably comes out.
Anyone feel like these specs almost relate to the new 400z but besides a turbo v6 Toyota went supercharger. I mean v6, 6 MT, " drivers car " 💡, idk im just happy to see Manual transmissions still being focused on
I would save more $ and buy the Evora GT over the Porsche Cayman. Manual shift, single button heat/AC, simple, no silly screens. I'd rather have an aftermarket audio system, it's easier to do ICE swaps. Lotus has really made such good choices with reliable Toyota Engines. It's not really over priced (in a non upgrade pant colour), not for what you get. Yamaha designed heads, Toyota Engine reliability, Lotus legendary handling, driver inspired and the "add lightness" factor. It's unfair to attach the unreliable stigma with the new Lotus breeds. Porsche Cayman is safe. Evroa GT that gets the blood running !
There's no way I'd get in and out of an Elise or Exige, but this is perfect! I just hope I can get the money together while they're still available....
$20k more than a Cayman is a ridiculous statement...... what kind of Cayman do you think you’re getting for $75k?? This car (performance/power wise) and 718 GTS 4.0 or even 718 GT4 level, both of which are over $100k with any options (GT4’s average about $120k MSRP the way majority are specced). I’m not a Lotus fanboy btw, quite the opposite as I’m looking at purchasing a 718 GT4 but I have to say this car is a hell of a lot of bang for the buck and in some ways every bit as good as the Porsche’s
The thumbnail says Honda should take notes but truthfully Toyota should take notes. This car is proof of what the Camry's engine is capable of. This version should have been in the trd
Lotus just needs to add the video camera style rearview mirror setup like in the Corvette & Camaro and Then you're totally good to go for daily driving!
I love this car, this car will most likely be in my possession, I remember the first time seeing on, upon a mountain trail behind my brother and me in his charger ripping it up this mountain with this space ship close on our tail. the only thing is the price tag, but I believe that these cars do not hold their value because they are too underrated. I mean the 2012 models started at roughly $80k and now you can find on in good shape from $40k-$50k, I have no doubt that in the next 4 or so years this car's price tag will drop to $50k-$60k. another thing is I know this sounds dumb but I almost don't like that this car is a manual... I see this car as a nimble track toy, and being a manual almost throws off my view of this car from being a track toy to being a spirited driving car.
Definitely one of the most modern sports cars to have a manual these days.

Toyota's reliability and lotus's kick ass chassis/body design
Sounds a trillion times better then bmws backfires
Had a soft spot for the Evora since 2011
That is a sweet a$$ car. A mid engine v6 with a supercharged toyota engine AND MANUAL :}
It may not be the fastest car out there but I bet it is a lovely driving experience. Some cars are not only meant to go fast in a straight line.
Best car ever. Drivers car. I have a 2017 Evora 400 manual transmission.(practically the same as the GT)
I currently own a 2020 Veloster N Performance Package. I consider this car to be the spiritual successor, and I hope to own an Evora GT one day!
If you know cars. You know Lotus and their history. From winning F1 championships to low key track and sports cars. Amazing cars. Love them.
Something about the lotus has always got my attention, always wanted one.
This car is underrated ........got one ....it' s fantastic ....
Great video. Thanks for giving some light to a true underrated car.
I have an Evora 400. Most fun car I have ever had out of the 87 cars that have been in my garage. Why would i want a Porsche???
Such a cool car - will be sad to see it go, but excited for what Lotus has in store for us on the horizon.
Lotus Evora: What the NSX should have been.
Watching him drive awesome cars and smile makes my day :)
Such a wicked lil car, great review man! 🔥🔥🔥
I know this car personally from asphalt 9 but It’s so underrated and no RUclipsr I know drove one until now
I sat in the Evora when it first came out and have wanted one ever since. What color is your 400?
I think there’s some misunderstanding on what underrated means. Something can be overpriced, but underrated in terms of the hype/ appreciation surrounding that thing.
Imagine Honda doing a mid engine sport car with the Odyssey engine 😂
Like a new del-sol
J35 is a great engine 😂 supercharge that and bam 400+ hp 😂
I think it should be a reality.
I wouldn't mind if the nsx has a detuned Type R engine as a base model NSX and the TLX Turbo V6 on higher trim.
Especially when both comes with manual.
@@masashiiino6914 That would be fine but they need to cut the price in half
That Exige Orange paint is incredible. Might just be worth $5900.
I’ve driven this car & the Elise in different specs & they were all amazing to drive. I also drove a Porsche boxter also but they are just too much like a VW now ( like a posh TT) . I would choose lotus every day. Great drivers cars.👍🇬🇧
Wow I didn’t know how sick this thing was, thanks for showing me
Lotus makes some of the best sports cars in the world
Last time I was this early, I learned splatter paint can look good.
I love lotus can't wait to see what they do next
Totally worth the price of entry. It’s just so much more special and involving than a Cayman. I had a new Cayman loaner recently and I was bored to tears. It’s so numb compared to the Lotus driving experience, or even the 987 Cayman.
Ok, gonna go get one now! Just being a manual and analog alone is what i need! Love the video! Great job!
How about that price range ?
@@AY-xd9rk those ppl you don’t want in your circle. Talking out of his ass 😂
I have the 400! Awesome drivers car!
That paint price isnt quite as crazy as 2 white stripes for 10k on the GT500
I want a Lotus Evora and C8 Chevorlet Corvette because I liked the old Acura NSX and C5 Corvette.
That car sounds and looks absolutely gorgeous
I will own one of these one day🥵🥵🥵
🤢🤮 96k, yea okayyyyy: you won’t. 😂
@@Hufworldwide05 never underestimate anyone... I want to own one of these too. @HyperblueWRX you got this. You will get that car
@@Hufworldwide05 nobody needs your negativity around here bud. Let’s make all of our goals happen!!
@@Hufworldwide05 You have the audacity to tell someone else what THEIR ability and reach is... focus on yourself buddy.
@@Hufworldwide05 SMH...Guess being Negative is the new cool nowadays
I dunno if I would count the Alpine head unit as being a down side, at least unlike most more mainstream OEM's that have their infotainment shit linked to every little other control module imaginable on the car, at least it provides room for upgradability down the road once newer tech inevitably comes out.
Anyone feel like these specs almost relate to the new 400z but besides a turbo v6 Toyota went supercharger. I mean v6, 6 MT, " drivers car " 💡, idk im just happy to see Manual transmissions still being focused on
Nice! The Evora GT is impressive!
Damn, the Camry V6 can sound amazing!
Just bought a 21 liquid yellow, last one, can’t wait to get it
There's no way I'd get in and out of an Elise or Exige, but this is perfect! I just hope I can get the money together while they're still available....
Imagine if the Camry came supercharged from the factory
One day
Why would you want that much power on a FWD car?
Because a throttle isn’t an on/off switch, you CAN drive part throttle and maintain traction.
These will be future classics 100 percent
I like that stick shift Lotus
That is just a beautiful car!
Fantastic vid!!
Would be awesome to see a Lotus Elise/Exige review from ya!
Everytime I have the thought to buy a car, David does a video for it
The thumbnail says Honda should take notes but truthfully Toyota should take notes. This car is proof of what the Camry's engine is capable of. This version should have been in the trd
As a 3GS 350 owner I'm so proud to see this review 😭
It sounds sooo goood!
Lotus just needs to add the video camera style rearview mirror setup like in the Corvette & Camaro and Then you're totally good to go for daily driving!
Or add an after market cam rearview mirror
Great review👌🏻😀
waiting for mighty car mods to drop a comment because moog has a lotus
Jeremy Clarkson: Lotus
LOTS OF TROUBLE USUALLY SERIOUS 😂
I miss the "Old" (2011 and older) Exige. Definitely one of my dream cars is the Matte Black 2011 Final Edition Exige S260 👍
It’s nice seeing this car compared to mcm’s lotus. V6 and v4 lotus car crazy
But a charger cannot handles like a Evora gt
Straight piped Evora’s are so narley 🏎
I love this car you can tell the car is good once David doesn’t talk 😂😂😂😂
