    I’ll never forget my first raid with a “semi hardcore” guild I applied and got accepted for. I was fully world buffed, all consumes, meticulously planned. It was AQ so I hit my gadgetzan teleport and behold, I drew the unlucky roll and was sitting high above Gadget about to fall to my death. I am freaking out but remembered I had noggenfogger knowing I would only get one chance for the slow fall, so I hit it and by some lucky chance I get it. I was so grateful because showing up to my first raid without buffs with that guild would have been very emberassing and might have gotten me kicked

    I was on Whitemane when P2 dropped. Luckily, I had already hit level 60 and was almost done farming my pre-bis for MC. My guild, Acquired Taste, would meet up at Thelsamar and ride south into the Searing Gorge, then into BRM. We had so many epic battles in our way to MC. We would sometimes go alone or combine with other alliance guilds heading to raid in order to “break the siege” upon the mountain. Sometimes we were very successful taking little to no casualties, other times we would get battered, and a few times we got wiped. Usually, the latter was due to a pincer move by the Horde.
    At the time it was fun as first, then yeah it did start to get annoying when you wanted to test your dps limits (I was a Hunter), but looking back I think those memories were amongst the most epic I ever had during Classic.

    Classic raiding for me was about chill social times with the friends. Yes it's braindead and mountains of trash. Yes it's all about grinding prep for the raid before the raid itself. Yes staying awake can be a challenge when on farm status. But being super powered up from a zillion consumes and raid buffs felt strong. The challenge was also more like a hardcore challenge, not dying not just during but before, just getting to raid safely on a PvP server could be challenging. I love all the immersive slow grind of classic, the dangers, the risk, the time consuming nature, the chill relaxed socialising, the weird strats and group comps, it's all part of the unique experience.

    It is worth mentioning that there were also a summoning spot back in phase 3 for BWL. The glitch started at the right corner of the room with the portal to UBRS/LBRS, you can use a potion of growth (one with deviate fish) and instantly logout, and for some reason it pushed you to the roof of this room above the textures. There you could summon raiders with the worldbuffs, and they could run above the corridor of death and jump straight at the entrance to the Orb room. So you could compliment the run to the orb with an invisibility potion or some distraction, and that would give you nearly 95% survival chance.
    On the Earthshaker we had horde dominating the BWL entrance typically, so ally discovered the summoning spot and tried to have it concealed until AQ40. Horde tried to break through, but with no coordinated attempt it worked out pretty well. Also, a good note was people selling out a new-found summoning spots for a nice profit to other guilds.

  • @Sasupoika2

    I loved these sort of stuff in classic, even though how frustrating losing world buffs was. Gathering at flight point and traveling as group. There definitely was griefing aspects - there were people who made themselves known by being pricks. One such case is a guild waiting logged out at Yojimbo isles. When alliance got their buff, they logged in en-masse and attacked while people were waiting/casting portals. Apparently they had been paid by alliance guild to do that.
    AQ40 and Naxx were much easier at times. People managed to get in... creative places with warlocks (inside AQ40 gate wall, under Naxx portal or on mushroom), behind instance portal of Dire Maul when getting world buffs. However, being PvP servers, they occasionally were killed and you had to, for example, travel from Aerie Peak, passing through mountains, circling around Caer Darrow lake and going to eastern plaguelands, where you'd turn left jump over the mountains and head to entrance. Sometimes safest way was like that.
    If I ever start again in classic vanilla, I'd still play on PvP. Just makes interactions in world more interesting, although there is issue of faction balance. It became more pronounced for us at end of vanilla/TBC, where we had to skip town because of our faction represented 5% of player population.
    Although, miss me with world buffs. I imagine it'd kill lot of this sort of PvP since there is no real risk or reward (outside of honor, but people didn't world pvp for honor after p2).

  • @vicenine7689
    @vicenine7689 Год назад +5

    We'd have a warlock jump up the side of the Naxx portal and summon our whole raid ontop of the portal in Eastern Plaguelands, if you fell off the top without directly landing inside the portal....you were ganked by 5 rogues and your hard earned world buffs were now gone....

  • @EmiLo1337

    We used to summon people on top of the AQ40 gates (behind the portal) and if you managed to jump correctly you would hit the portal and zone in. For Naxx we had summons on top of the spires/tentacles of the ziggurat and then jump down the hole to zone in. Risky, someone always died but it was good enough

    Every time I had to collect the WB I would only get the minimum required by my guild. Warchief, Dragon and Songflower. I only got others if I had time to spare or it was safe to get them.
    The other part about it I hated was, that after you got them all, you had to log out of your main char. You had to safe the time on your WB so now you could either play on an alt or stop playing the game.....

      Rushing home from school/work, getting invited at 3 PM by the chad raid leader whom opened up for invites during the morning of raid-day, and would sit on discord all day saying when it was and wasn't safe to zone in! Those were the days.

    i remember having to clear UBRS to the bwl portal because of world buff reasons. we had the entire raid log out at like 3 am at the UBRS portal day before raid had a group clear ubrs up to the portal then ran everyone through it. lost everyone about 7 minutes of world buffs but was much safer than trying to lottery the orb

    I had a summoning lock for my raid. Loved helping everyone get to raid early and looking out for alliance trying to sneak in. So much fun I remember how much it got the blood pumping trying to protect your raid and get people there in 1 piece. Herod was a ton of fun. Man now I'm just thinking of all the things I kinda forgot about from Classic. It was my first time raiding/playing vanilla. My guild was great and guild master was the man. Was an incredible experience I got to share with my GF who was also raiding and playing. I was out of work because of the pandemic but still being paid to be unemployed so I just full time played wow. I've mained warrior in every wow expansion since original TBC so getting to play vanilla warrior was an endless source of fun.

    ah good times. This is the reason i got bored on my 90% ally server. Sure I got to parse 99s without consequence, but i ended up raid logging all week. Instead I made another dude on Whitemane, a pure 50/50 clusterfuck server. Every week it was so fun getting 40 people buffed and into raid. ESPECIALLY on darkmoon fair week.

  • @wafflehaxxx
    @wafflehaxxx Год назад +1

    I was playing on a server with an 20-80% opposite faction split. I had to spend the entire day of my raids preparing summoning spots, because every week our old spot would get compromised and turned into a death trap. "Creative" summoning locations like the mushroom and beneath Naxx does not work whatsoever when the opposite faction outnumbers you several times over, they have 40 people camping those spots too, you need to use worse and worse locations and swap between them every week in an attempt at surviving. Then summon as quickly as possible before the dozen priests spamming mind vision with the enemy detector addon in the zone locate you. At times it was fun and exciting, but a vast majority of time it was just suffering.
    My favorite naxx summoning spot was the bone spikes above the entrance to Naxxramas, if you logged on 10 summoning alts at once, summoned everyone in the raid in 2-3 minutes you would often get the raid inside Naxxramas before the enemy faction had a chance to send a group of people up there to stop you. The only risk was the last few yards of the spike before reaching the entrance, it would be within range of hunter abilities and as you jumped down you would be in range of dispels, also if you jumped wrong you would hit the ground and die. Every raid someone would mess up their invisibility potion, using it too late and getting shot by 5 hunters and dying instantly, getting dispelled, or jumping down wrong. But it was the best way we found.

    We organised a Horde hit squad in our guild, mostly mages to maximise destruction. Climbing up to the top of the doors leading into BRM from searing gorge where the alliance always came through, by jumping out the window near the BWL orb and following the balcony. A hunter use eagle eye to spot the ally raid's position. When they got into BRM, they were disorganised, this is when we striked, dropped down like paratroopers with slow fall and aoe spam. Usually killed 50-70% of the enemy raid (damn pally bubble healers) but the real damage was the most atrocious drama between guilds and server discord, our raid nights getting counter ganked by spies in our guild. Good times!

    I had 11 accounts open during this time. I would multi-box and clear dire maul; I had sets of 3 warlocks all over the world hidden in different places. I would summon my guild behind the portal in Dire Maul, Summon them to the hills of booty Bay, Summon them to the mountain behind a a songflower, then summon them beneath the map of Ogramar, and finally, I would call people directly to the raid we were doing. I had warlocks hidden in a wall of Upper BlackRock, Below the Nax portal, Behind the AQ 40 portal. Most of the time, it was a pretty clean entry into raids.

    Maybe a middle ground can be found, so that folks don’t burn out / move to PvE realms.
    For example, we could make losing your buffs a little more tolerable by rebalancing / nerfing them.

World buffs were definitely interesting.

    The hardest part of Classic raiding was keeping a guild of 40 raiders together. I had to find a new guild in literally every single phase of Classic WoW. And it wasn't all small shitty guilds. In phase 6 it was one of the top 3 guilds on the server, that broke apart when our main tank decided to transfer after cashing in all his good will and receiving a Corrupted Ashbringer in our first Naxx lockout.

    I thought this was the most unique thing that NO ONE talks about? This was one of the biggest points of conversation with anyone I played with on Classic. If you weren't leveling an alt or doing dungeons just for kicks because you know you will curbstomp them, you were acquiring world buffs and logging to save them for the raids.

  • @Zeergruush

    I got into classic late. It was already AQ time when I got myself to lvl 60 and into even some semi decent gear. Even still I think that summoning/gathering up and getting to the raid made it more personal. You were more invested in the guild as it were. I had several clickers on my two accounts that would help with summons etc. Personally I got really bummed out by the buffs limiting play, not so much them having to be safeguarded. For reference I played on ZT a RPPVP server and boy did we have it rough on the horde side. Still loved every moment of it and tbh I'm really hoping for a classic relaunch so I can see the early phases and also just play the game again... HC is nice and all but it's still different to be able to form a guild with fresh characters and such.
