@@ericahand5155 Oh! It totally ruins the yardage and makes waste, as now you have to cut and straighten out the $24 per metre piece of fabric that you just purchased...yes, that is the price here where I live!
When I was taught garment sewing in Home Economics in the late 60's, our first step was to tear the fabric to create our straight seam for cutting & to know the grain. I just started quilting, and automatically tear first when I buy yardage. I struggle with the way fabric is printed instead of woven now. Many of the designs are printed crooked and it isn't noticeable unless you tear it! I'm learning to let it go, and this scrappy quilt block is perfect for letting go!
Yes! I didn't want to go too far off topic in this video, but I always tear my yardage too to get the straight line for cutting on the grain! Thanks for watching!
I'm a a reformed fabric tearer, (if that's a word, LOL) AT our local fabric shop they put a little snip in and tore your cut of fabric. At times I still wince when I see the fabric printed so badly off the grain. :)
Since fabric is printed with a curve in the pattern across the width of the fabric, I am very picky about what I buy. I don’t buy checks or plaids if I can help it. Even dot patterns make anxious. I like scattered prints. I cut a lot of my quilt pieces starting along the length of the grain so that the printed design will be straight.
Great way to use up a fabric stash. The small zebra stripe border is perfect to set off the scrappy border---good thinking on your part to do that. Thx for sharing your lovely stars. 🌟✴⭐🤩
I absolutely love your personality and how you explain things. This pattern is so unique (not run of the mill) and I can’t wait to get started on it. I plan on making a very long table runner for my daughter and her partner. I’m on my way into my”war room” and get started tearing! Thank you for a fun video. Linda from Northern California. ❤
I LOVE this quilt! I watch your RUclips videos on our Smart TV but had to come here to tell you how much I love this quilt. Since watching this video early this morning, I have ordered more Christmas fabric to add to my stash. As soon as I finish the quilts already started for Christmas, I will start on this one. Time to get ripping! Thank you for your wonderful videos! They are enjoyed and appreciated. (Doris Bishop)
I did something similar to that once and it turned out beautiful. My (adult) daughter was not impressed when I explained what I was making, but when it was finished, she loved it.
I just found, (and subscribed), to your channel and am SO glad you’re still making content. (The ones that came up were from 2 years ago). LOVE your energy and how you explain things. I’m a new voyeur of quilting because I’m afraid of making that first cut, but once I do, look out!!!! Am really loving your jelly roll ideas but am in the process of just binging your content! ❤️
@@ISeeStarsQuilting, you’re so sweet. I’m trying to find the courage to make that first cut, LOL! I know that sounds ridiculous, (more so than my fabric stash…that I WON’T cut! 🤣), but I’m afraid I’ll mess up the lovely fabric…and it’s not cheap! So, at this point, I’m just a hoarder! 🤣
Fabulous quilt! What a great way to use up some of your scraps! I love the large and small stars. While I won’t get one done before Christmas, I will try once Christmas is over. I might make one with some of my other holiday scraps too! ❤Thanks for sharing this pattern.
I love this quilt! So great for using up scraps. I love your video - you are funny, sweet and authentically original. New subscriber. Glad I 'found' you!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Take your time and enjoy the process when you decide to try it out. It doesn't have to be christmas themed!
I can't love this enough. It's like FPP without that first P! I've got a ton of old ugly Christmas fabric I received when someone moved. I was going to make family scrappy Christmas stockings this year, but didnt get that far. So, i do believe this quilt will utilize those fabrics more; then I can design and personalize stockings for next year. Thanks for the wonderful improv tutorial!
OMG, I love that you're getting crafty with your old Christmas fabric! Next year's stockings will definitely be one-of-a-kind. Can't wait to see the final result!
Love, Love, Love this quilt! As soon as my new quilting room in my new house is set up, I am making a ton of this. Easter, Valentine's Day, Fourth of July, etc., etc. I have an immense amount of scraps, all I have to do is cut ten inch squares. Such fun!!! (I'm sorry, but I have to iron and use my rotary cutter. Not that there's a thing wrong with your method, it's me, not you!!! LOL!!!)
Oh my gosh! This is so wonderful. I want to do a quilt like this. Being angle challenged I was afraid. You have given me permission to let it go! Sew, THANKS!

I don't usually like using catch phrases, but I think "really neat" is the PERFECT way to describe this quilt! It's kind of 'ketchy' itself, and I really love it! I especially like the fact that you weren't afraid to use almost all, very intense colours. I think that is why it is so impressive. Good work!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that you found inspiration in this pattern for your Christmas stockings. Your creativity with different materials will make them truly special.
This quilt is so pretty!! Thank you. I'm going to keep this for a future quilt. It was pretty as is but the border made it even more beautiful. I worked at a quilt shop that tore the fabric. ooh I love the 4th of july theme! That would so so so cute! 🌟 (sorry about the wrinkles - lol I knew it would be horrid to someone! 🤣 but it did turn out ok in the end!)
Cute quilt. I remember when I was a little girl, the fabric shops ripped your fabric rather than cutting it off the bolt.
I do that sometimes when I'm cutting my yardage. I*t gives a perfectly straight edge but it does create a bigger mess! 🥰🥰
There is a quilt shop I visited in SC that one rips!
