    Cute quilt. I remember when I was a little girl, the fabric shops ripped your fabric rather than cutting it off the bolt.

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting

      I do that sometimes when I'm cutting my yardage. I*t gives a perfectly straight edge but it does create a bigger mess! 🥰🥰

      @@ericahand5155 Oh! It totally ruins the yardage and makes waste, as now you have to cut and straighten out the $24 per metre piece of fabric that you just purchased...yes, that is the price here where I live!

    When I was taught garment sewing in Home Economics in the late 60's, our first step was to tear the fabric to create our straight seam for cutting & to know the grain. I just started quilting, and automatically tear first when I buy yardage. I struggle with the way fabric is printed instead of woven now. Many of the designs are printed crooked and it isn't noticeable unless you tear it! I'm learning to let it go, and this scrappy quilt block is perfect for letting go!

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! I didn't want to go too far off topic in this video, but I always tear my yardage too to get the straight line for cutting on the grain! Thanks for watching!

    • @sisterchicksquilting
      @sisterchicksquilting 10 месяцев назад +1

      I'm a a reformed fabric tearer, (if that's a word, LOL) AT our local fabric shop they put a little snip in and tore your cut of fabric. At times I still wince when I see the fabric printed so badly off the grain. :)

    • @Carol_Sews
      @Carol_Sews 10 месяцев назад +2

      Since fabric is printed with a curve in the pattern across the width of the fabric, I am very picky about what I buy. I don’t buy checks or plaids if I can help it. Even dot patterns make anxious. I like scattered prints. I cut a lot of my quilt pieces starting along the length of the grain so that the printed design will be straight.

  • @laurarose6829
    @laurarose6829 10 месяцев назад +6

    My straight line and matching corners anxiety was with me the entire time! Mine would be symmetrical without trying ! I do love how yours ended up

    I LOVE this quilt!! With all those strips you had, you could make a KING size quilt! It would be awesome! I wanna do one! Hmmm -new years resolution ?!?!
    Thanks! Carla

    Cute quilt! I have done something similar to this. Trimming your seam allowance and the extra fabric before you add another wonky strip will help reduce bulk and keep your blocks flat. When I try to quilt through all those layers, my machine tends to skip stitches (which is such a pain! :)). Thanks for sharing your projects.

    This is so trying to make me deviate from my path to finish my current project. It makes me just want to sit down and sew without so much thought and planning. Which I’m terrible at- being a planner, list maker, and planned scrappy when forced. But I LOVE the idea of more loose and free quilting/sewing. Thank you for the inspiration. Perhaps, when I make my planned Christmas quilts- I can use the leftover scraps on something like this. 🥰

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad I could inspire you to try something new and embrace the idea of more loose and free quilting/sewing. And using leftover scraps for a new project sounds like a great idea! Can't wait to see what you create!

    The wrinkles give me anxiety 😂 but you do you, girl! and I’ll be over here ironing and do all the rest to see if I can make a cute crib size quilt with my abundance of baby fabric scraps. Would be awesome using blue and red 4th of July themed fabric too 😊

      ooh I love the 4th of july theme! That would so so so cute! 🌟 (sorry about the wrinkles - lol I knew it would be horrid to someone! 🤣 but it did turn out ok in the end!)
