  • We had so much fun shooting this "Downtown driving in #Reykjavik #Iceland January 2023". If you have requests about places you want to see, please like and subscribe and send us a message! :)
    Right after we finished filming a storm broke out so we finished it just in the nick of time but that's typical Iceland weather and if you don't like it, just wait 15 minutes and it's probably different.
    Maybe one day if we get enough #likes, I will go #seaswimming haha.

    We fly in tomorrow. We’re renting a car. So, your video was very helpful. I still have questions about parking. It is easy to find a spot? It is expensive? What the time limits? Is there any free parking between certain hours or locations? 😅

    @3:15 yes barracks! Practically the same word in Icelandic. Thank you so much for posting this. We are coming for 12 days in April (first time) doing most of the Ring Road and I was very curious about traffic near large cities. Thanks so much. PS - You and your wife seem like such FUN people. Thank you. 😀 I find it way easier to speak in Icelandic. We normally don’t speak English but most of the country speaks it and understands it well. Most of our media is in English, movies, episodes, etc. Are young people bothered about the language? Im not sure what you mean, can you expand on that? Thanks.

    Hello
    3000€ after taxes is good salary in Iceland?
    And how much expenses per month rent, food, transportation?
    Please i want to know that.

    • @theicelandicfamily
      @theicelandicfamily  Год назад +2

      Hi Dipak.
      Great question and good timing because I'm just about to create a video about salary and the cost of living here in Iceland.
      But to quickly answer your question. The legal minimum amount you have to get for full time employment is 2.400 euros. That's minimum wage, and I personally don't know anyone that makes minimum wage.
      In Reykjavik you would pay around 2.500 euros in rent per month for a two bedroom apartment, if it's a bit nicer, closer to 3.000 euros so you see the minimum wage doesn't get you far. You could also rent a small studio apartment with a bathroom for around 1200 euros.
      1 liter of petrol is 2 euros. Food is a lot more expensive than mainland Europe.
      I will cover this in greater detail soon. Stay tuned my friend.
      Are you thinking about moving to Iceland?

  • @zapfanzapfan
    @zapfanzapfan Год назад +2

    Yeah, the grammar is nuts... like who invented changing the word for something based on who owns it... like cat, my cat, her cat, their cat. Not my cat, her kött, their köttur... yes, I took a course in Icelandic, I didn't pass, can you tell? 🙂
    Are electric cars becoming popular in Iceland? With 100% renewable electricity you could really ditch oil.

    • @theicelandicfamily
      @theicelandicfamily  Год назад +1

      Haha yes the grammar is nuts. That’s so cool you took a course in Icelandic. I really do feel for people trying to learn Icelandic, even us native speakers sometimes say this doesn’t make any sense. 😄
      Electric vehicles are really popular here, in 2021 I think around 25% of all new vehicles were EV, and last year it was probably a lot more. It’s really cheap to charge them here.
      Thanks for the comment, appreciated, love chatting with people that watch our little channel. 🙏
