Totally agree! Thanks for all your practical & informative tips! Going to Iceland in 2 weeks. Will be following your channel for more tips on your trips. Great job!👍
Iceland is an absolute bore and you can see anything that that country offers within 48 hours on a basic tour. It’s all the same stuff. It’s just cold. Hey look at this big ice block. Oh look at this warm thermal bath and look at this church it’s so boring unbelievable. I’m 53 years old and I’ve toured all around the United States lived all over Europe as a resident and I can say Iceland was a huge disappointment and I advise nobody to go there.
I don't normally write comment #s but straight away I liked how you mentioned all the essential info for the money-conscious travellers like myself. These types of informative videos are hard to find. Well done!
Thank you so much for the support to our channel and kind words. We are happy that the video was useful to us. It means the world to us and we hope you have an amazing trip!
My free tips: #1 after landing, whether you but a ticket to the Blue Lagoon spa or not, drive over to the Blue Lagoon and park at the Silica Hotel which is a part of the hotel group. There is a flat hiking trail, facing out of the front door, on the left. The trail winds around to the Blue Lagoon. You will see beautiful milky blue water. I saw a couple getting married in the lava rock! The trail is free. No one said anything about us parking there. #2 Save $ eating the hotdogs from kiosks or gas stations. They are the best I have ever had. Ask for loaded! #3 The Barn Hostel in Vik was one of the nicest hostels I have ever seen. You can walk to the Black Sands. Great view of the ocean. USD $35 a night.
Thanks for watching and checking it out. Im happy you had a great time out there. I have a ton of content coming out about our experience. The buses is a great tip if you do not feel comfortable driving
Thanks for this testimony I myself have thought many times I want to visit also but I'm single and yes I'm apprehensive about that part? Please tell me how it went with you stay and travel there 👏
@josephtaylor5909 It was great! It was easy to use the busses. I did pay for some of the other tours. The cars were very expensive to rent at the time. It was always daylight so I felt safe. I stayed in an airbnb in a neighborhood. She picked me up from the airport and explained the busses, etc to me. There was a grocery store along with the bus stops in walking distance.
@@nikajohnson9210 Did you use the Straeto bus line? My friend and I are planning to go in May 2025, without a car, and wondering if we can get to some of these sites via Straeto. It looks like the lines go near a lot of things, but hard to know just how close. Where did you go?
You totally nailed it in this video. We did Iceland Summer 2021, and despite the high cost of things it ended up being a reasonable vacation because most of the attractions were in nature. Renting a car and hitting the supermarket often kept the costs down. We did AirBnBs all over the island, and driving was easier than most places in the US. For foks in the Western US, check out Iceland Air direct from Denver or Seattle. Cheers!
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad to hear that you had a great time in Iceland. There are so many ways to offset those high cost but even without that it is such an amazing destination.
How long did you stay there? We're going there for 4 days and we're thinking about renting a car but might cost too much since we aren't staying for long
I’m very fortunate to have Icelandair as a big presence in my airport on the East Coast. They always run sales so I can travel without going broke. It’s an insane cheat code to do the stopover in this gorgeous country, hop to another country in Europe, and then get back home at no extra cost. It is cheaper for me to fly to Europe than to fly to the West Coast of the USA.
That's amazing! It sounds like you've found a fantastic travel hack with Icelandair. Traveling to Europe and exploring multiple countries without breaking the bank is a dream come true!
We're planning our 1st trip to Iceland and this was some very practical and useful info!! The duty free and tax information was something I didn't hear anywhere else! Thanks for the tips!

First time visitor to your channel!! Great organized and friendly presentation from both you and your wife. We found this episode on Iceland to be extremely helpful!! Thanks SO MUCH!! We will follow your future episodes!!
Good stuff, thank you! I'm only just starting to learn about this, as my wife has Iceland squarely in her sights for our anniversary trip in lat October/early November.
Wow. NOW I know what those “Tax Refund” signs at the airport are about! Thanks! Wish I knew that before I went. (Just got back from Iceland last week.) Excellent video. Thank you very much!
Planning a trip next year with a friend. This was absolutely FANTASTIC content - very informative and insightful with a focus on practical tips. Thank you for putting this together!
We are already planning our trip for summer of next year cause experiencing Iceland for 2 winters we are not doing anymore!! lol. we love the fact that the plane ticket prices were cheap but that weather was ruthless. On the flip side getting to see the Northern lights was worth it. We are renting a campervan and heading north this time. Being that it doesnt get dark in the summer thats the perfect time to try to get spots to ourselves. Great video once again!!
Thank you guys for the support again. I was so inspired when you guys went and watched your videos so many times preparing for this trip. When we saw how hard those winter drives were we decided it was perfect to come this time. Thanks for sharing your plans with us! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time and I'm glad that you enjoyed the video.
We're planning a trip on September 2024. Very timely and helpful. I nearly fainted today when I looked up the price of gas and didn't think about where to buy it until you mentioned Costco😀 thanks!
Thank you for your kind words! I’m thrilled to hear that the video was timely for your trip planning. Costco really is a game changer for saving on gas!
Thank you for your support and encouragement! It means a lot to me. I'm thrilled that you found the video helpful. I'll keep working hard to bring you more valuable content.
Thank you your the only channel that talked about cards and transaction fees. I was wondering about that and the other channels didn't specify!! I assumed all cards had foreign transaction fees gotta figure out which one of mines has that feature!! Is therr a way to go without having a card that has no foreign transaction fees
Good stuff. We are heading there in early November of 2024 and are really excited about the trip! Just trying to figure out what to pack as we only want to bring a carry on.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled that you're excited about the trip. Packing light is always a good idea, and it will make your journey much easier. Have a wonderful time!
Great vlog. My wife and I are going to Iceland for five days in November to see the Northern lights. Ironically we live not too far away in Scotland but have not visited Iceland yet. Thanks for your tips and enjoyable vlog.
Love this. Taking my wife to Iceland this week and I couldn’t be more excited about to. Thank you for this video. Just subscribed to your channel cause I’m trying to get our travel game up like y’all, Lol. Looking forward to more of your content
Sounds like you guys are gonna have an awesome time in Iceland. We have a ton of content coming about our experience that we cannot wait to share. We can't wait to hear all about it! Thanks for subscribing to our channel, much appreciated!
Keep in mind (because to many tourist don't) that in Iceland the roads are not always very good and it is not wise to drive faster than 90 (max speed in Iceland). Also DO NOT stop in the middle of the road to take pictures (many tourist accidents happens that way) and it's an absolute MUST to respect WARNING signs. They are there BECAUSE accidents and death has happened (0:25)!!!
I like how like minded we are when it comes to traveling and not just throwing our hard earned money out the window lol. We're going back to Iceland in June for 12 days, and are excited to see the Westfjords and northern half this time. We'll be traveling mostly during the midnight sun hours, so hopefully that cuts down on bumping into other tourists. We had Skógafoss and Jökulsárlón to ourselves this past July since we went at 3am. Amazing, and your video has me already starting my packing checklist lol. 🤜🤛
Your support and enthusiasm mean the world to us! It's fantastic to hear that our video has inspired you to start preparing for your trip. Have an incredible time in Iceland, and don't forget to share your adventures with us!
See if there is a chance that you can iclude a hiking tour to Hornstrandir. This is a fantastic area as far as you can go to the north west of Iceland. You might be able to handfeed an arctic fox.
Thank you for the helpful tips. I was wondering,Were you able to see Northern lights in April? If so, where? And what company did you use for the ice cave tour? Cost?
Hey thanks again for ur tips & shared experiences on Iceland, was super helpful for our recent trip last week! Wanted to follow up on a question I had posted a couple months ago that you had replied to about seats on PLAY Air: We went ahead and booked the cheapest seats, but my question was about whether they would have enough leg room for me (6'2"). The good news is that the direct redeye was at only half capacity, so my wife and I had the 3-seat section + back 3 seats to ourselves. Sitting and facing forward, my legs actually could only fit hitting the outer edges of the seat in front of me. Had it been during high tourist season, I would've been in trouble stuck and probably lean heavily on my wife in order to not be in the 3rd person's space. Even for my 5'4" wife, she felt kinda claustrophobic. I decided to move to the row behind her and stretch out a bit to sleep. As it turned out, despite a predicted Aurora KP index of ZERO for that night, the pilot announced a sighting to the left of the plane! and I had the foresight to book seats deliberately on the left/facing north for the redeye hoping for the opportunity. It was beyond belief as a 1st-timer seeing the aurora in person, a truly "spiritual" experience. Anyway, we decided to splurge for the extra room seats on the return trip. I had noticed on the redeye flight that the extra leg room seats truly had EXTRA LEG ROOM, significantly more so than United's Economy Plus seats (as a point of ref). For the future, we'll splurge on those seats on PLAY Air or maybe try out Icelandair, since the cost will be similar then. Also I think the math worked out better when we opted for 1 checked bag for 23 kg and no carry-ons (only personal bags for 10 kg each, which was plenty). We could've used more baggage for especially the additional souvenirs (alcohol weight adds up! I strongly suggest the Flôki single malt whisky available in Duty Free as a splurge + an assortment of mini bottle Icelandic liquor buy 5 get a 6th one free! I think those came out to only ~$2-$3 USD each! perfect for gifts). Our checked bag also accommodated a DSLR camera (hoping and successfully filming the aurora during our stay!!), a light tripod, a pair of winter hiking boots that my wife insisted on not wearing exclusively for the entire trip so she had to have another pair for everyday wear, and other warm gear. I also opted to bring/wear only 1 pair of pants for the 4-day/3-night trip, a lined water/windproof pair of pants that worked out perfectly for my needs (note: some reviewers advised against bringing/wearing jeans at least during the non-summer months). Last but not least - and especially if your credit card company for example reimburses for Global Entry - TAKE THE TIME AND EFFORT TO GET GLOBAL ENTRY! We got ours actually this past June, and it was AWESOME to bypass the horde of reg passengers getting thru US customs!!! Tip #14? We saw some guys doing a review on food in their Iceland trip while we were watching TV in our hotel room, and they were pleasantly surprised by this "Bingo" brand chocolate covered licorice balls (sold in all gas station convenience stores). Driving can be a CHALLENGE on these long distances, which in Iceland anywhere outside of Reyjkavik is everywhere (3 hrs from our hotel near Hella to Skaftafell for a glacier hike - that's a test of endurance especially on Iceland's harrowing two-way roads in even good driving weather conditions). I'm absolutely not a fan of licorice, but this choc-lic combo WORKS! It's pretty good, lasts a decent time cuz it's chewy, and def helps keep you more awake & alert while driving. But after 2 bags in one day, I'll admit my stomach didn't feel so hot....so of course I got a large bag to bring back as a treat for coworkers hahaha! Tip 15: I got the Seal-Line dry bag for my smartphone and other stuff after reading great reviews and seeing it described as being WATERPROOF...IT is NOT waterproof!!! Fortunately, my phone survived, but it took awhile + gentle use of a hairdryer to dry out the lightning port enough to be able to charge again! Obviously, I didn't test out the dry bag beforehand, so for others do your due diligence.
@@ChewsToExplore You’re so welcome. Keep posting. We booked our flight, but then volcano erupted… kind of freaked out about the Volcano action… Maybe it will subside😊
Wow.. Thank you so much for this informative video… Do the buses take you to every where in Iceland or just in certain places.. I think my husband doesn’t want to drive and I really want to go to so many places that I watched in some videos…
Thanks for sharing. I just came back from Iceland and had a wonderful time. The weather was amazing. It was sunny and slightly warm the whole trip. I visited Akureyri, Isafjordur, and Reykjavik. Reykjavik was my favorite because I tend to like bigger cities. That said, Akureyri and Isafjordur were BEAUTIFUL. The Blue Lagoon was nice and not overly crowded -- at least at the time [midmorning] we went. I was only in Iceland for four day, but I WILL return. The next visit
Thank you for your kind words! I visited Iceland towards the middle of spring in Mid April, but autumn is also a fantastic time to visit with its colorful landscapes.

Great points about Iceland. I'd also suggest cautioning people renting vehicles about the strong winds and the car doors, especially in the winter.

Thank you so much for the support to our channel. It is an amazing destination. I hope you have a great time!
Thanks for the tips, really useful information! Will be going in August!

Thank you your the only channel that talked about cards and transaction fees. I was wondering about that and the other channels didn't specify!! I assumed all cards had foreign transaction fees gotta figure out which one of mines has that feature!! Is therr a way to go without having a card that has no foreign transaction fees
Thank you for your kind words! I appreciate your support and I'm thrilled to hear my video was informative for you.

Great vlog. My wife and I are going to Iceland for five days in November to see the Northern lights. Ironically we live not too far away in Scotland but have not visited Iceland yet.
Thanks for your tips and enjoyable vlog.

I really appreciate your comment! It’s important for everyone to stay safe and be aware of the road conditions. Your reminder is spot on!
Good info! Better than other videos I have watched.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate your feedback and support!
Thank you for such a great video. We are going to Iceland next week. I’m excited!!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for this info. Im thinking about coming in late summer
.
Perfect time but lots of tourists there!

Thank you for the helpful tips.
I was wondering,Were you able to see Northern lights in April? If so, where? And what company did you use for the ice cave tour? Cost?
We tried to see it but unfortunately we were unable to see it during this time. We also did the tour with the Katla Ice Cave

Yes I have been to Egypt but my wife has not. We are hoping to go back one day to explore!
Great tips, especially about optimal time to visit. I was there in July, want to go again for one of the music festivals.

Thank you so much for the kind words and support to our channel! Glad you had an amazing time. Glad you got to do so much with your time!

Hi, Thanks a lot for the great summary, very helpful and useful! I wonder in which season you visit Iceland, end of winter? autumn?
Thank you for your kind words! I visited Iceland towards the middle of spring in Mid April, but autumn is also a fantastic time to visit with its colorful landscapes.

Good tips.
It seems like Bariloche Argentina is more beautiful. Including Villa Traful or El Bolson
I really appreciate your feedback! I have never heard of those places before! Bariloche is a gem, and Villa Traful and El Bolson are amazing spots that deserve to be highlighted!
@@ChewsToExplore yes I’m trying to decide either or , as always the budget is a problem. Auroras only in Iceland though.
Which car rental company did you go with? Did you get insurance? Thanks, great content and tips! We leave for Iceland in a month!!
Thanks for the support to us, I hope you have an amazing trip there. we didnt get insurance because we have coverage with our credit card. All details are linked in our guide chewstoexplore.com/product/explore-iceland-travel-guide/
@@ChewsToExplore Thanks for the info ... tip ... we went through AAA to get our car reservation, it was less expensive ... and we got the added insurance because it was WAY cheaper than anything from Iceland direct.
