    I'm only 9 years old, I'm in 4th grade. I'm a very good swimmer , I bought my tail, I swam in it so greatfuly my first time. I can hold my breath underwater! And I love swimming...so I hope when I'm big I can be a professional mermaid swimmer!

      Samsung J7 i learnt swimming at 6 (I could do 2 laps without stopping) and I didn't practice much after then. So my breathhold (2mins 15seconds) isn't as long as I hoped it would be. Im 14 now. I swim pretty well (not much of an improvement from 8 years ago) but I hope you practice more if you want to be a professional free diver/mermaid!

      Hey hun, I was the same age as you when I had started mermaiding, so don't worry, you don't ABSOLUTELY HAVE to be 18 to be a true mermaid, contrary to popular belief. I'm only two years below and I am still a mermaid 😊 (Well Siren in my case 😂 )

    Scuba knit is a thicker version of spandex, with slightly less stretch.

    • @Veramontacaballo
      @Veramontacaballo 3 года назад +1

      It does not stretch lengthwise but stretches across the width, which is very useful, it also keeps its shape in the water and does not let your legs show

Knowing that it is a bit thicker than spandex, and not exactly neoprene is a bit saddening, but its probably the best because Ive only been mermaiding for a year. Love this vid; it was even helpful today, four years later, as I’m considering what the next step up from FinFun spandex should be for me. If you ever wanted to update it (or any of your old “getting started” sort of vids with what current tailmakers are using/doing (even with just a edited in postscript), that would be super awesome amazeballs. But, I’m getting all this free advice, so I am NOT complaining. Thanks for having made so very many videos that have helped me get started!

    • @MarielHawke

      Although it just occurred to me, that, given how RUclips is monetized, it wouldn’t make any sense to update old videos; it would amount to unpaid work. So, nevermind my wishful-thinking suggestion above!

      She shows a great product here, I would love to know more as well. To make a washable acrylic, I am thinking use golden fluid acrylic plus their fabric additive. This is the most lightfast pigment line. I use it in my pro art business. As far as what to add to the top seal to protect it from UV, I will call my supplier and see if there are tips to make this application work. Hopefully there will be a safe way (for our waterways and swim areas) to add our shiny mica based pigments or the beautiful 2 way iridescent colors. If we research how they customize aftermarket shoes that could offer some tips. Generally you spray on waterproofing on shoes?

    I want a tail that's cheap because I am poor but I also want to make sure that it looks realistic enough to trick 8 year olds into thinking I'm actually a mermaid can you help me and tell me how to succeed at my goal

    Oooh, FinFolk makes neoprene tails that can fit my Finis Foil? If I'm ever at a point where I can justify spending $300 on a mermaid tail, I'll totally look at FinFolk!
