Sivasri Skandaprasad interview: On Carnatic music, dance, her first film song for AR Rahman

- Singer Sivasri Skandaprasad is a familiar face for fans of devotional and classical music, but the singer recently added another facet to her personality: film music. She sang a track for AR Rahman in the 'Ponniyin Selvan' original soundtrack.
Sivasri, who has trained in both dance and music, also runs a music school Ahuti and says that art has to be made simpler to reach more people. She says, "I want to remove all bifurcations that exist between genres of Indian music."

Sivasri is a God's blessing to India.
Indian classical music and especially Carnatic music is essentially devotional in nature. Removing devotion from Carnatic music and making it an exercise of technical excellence and brilliance, ragas and gamakas, vocal gymnastics etc is like the leopard changing its spots. While all the above mentioned aspects of Carnatic music are much needed metrics and one shouldn’t devalue their importance but they are all essentially meant to achieve the ultimate goal of devotion, connecting with inner self and union with the divine. Wonderful to see that Sivasriji is highlighting this essential aspect of Carnatic music. May the great lord Venkateshwara continue to bless her. 🙏

It was formatted by sri purandarasa only in 16th century.
It has embraced folkfore formats like kavadi chindu long back.

@@user-nf1to5xu9b kavadi chindu are poems composed by rural farm folks in simple language and free flowing style., mostly worshipping local deities like ellai amman, kali, mariamman etc., used mainly in tamil nadu, south india.

Interviewer was excellent and questions very well rounded , great job . Positive feedback is - Maybe he could have elicited a few more interesting personal anecdotes . Also could have asked about her other creative pursuits , hobbies and interests eg Ms Skandaprasad has been modeling sarees , done photo shoots and so on . Overall the Interview was enjoyable to watch . She came across as a self assured and articulate lady .
