hey i just had a guitar tech replace 61’ burstbuckers in my new 2023 LP standard…bought new SD slash2.0 alnico II pros pups going into my LP 60’s standard (to replace stock 61’ BB’s), i didnt solder or do any of the replacment myself, i took my LP and new pups to my guy whos been doing guitar repair/set ups for like 10-15yrs, it wasnt a busy day so i asked if i could watch, and i noticed there was more a heavier amount of silver solder on the original factory pups (a nice little gob of silver on each silver backing of all 4 pots) *my LP has Orange drop Caps & 50’s style wiring from factory*. When he got the 61’ BurstBuckers out and soldered in the Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0’s, i noticed he used a little less of the “silver gob” to connect each wire to the silver backing to all 4 pots…that being said, i highly doubt he burned anything because i could tell he was very careful and it barely took anytime to heat up ans have the wires soldered onto each pot. Is it common or possible that different or louder pickups would react different to different pups (the stock pups didnt have as much output as my slash 2.0’s). I notice all knobs are even (no dead spots in odd places, but it seemed like there was more wiggle room with the sweep before i swapped the stock 61’ BBs. Now the 2 vol knobs are pretty senesitive from 10-6…then around 5 is when you can hear a pretty big vol drop off (unless the amps cranked, i mean even at 3 i can still hear it thru the amp, but very soft vs before the swap…i was told that different pickups will have different affects on pots, and that its not an issue or something went wrong…but i really only have his word to go on lol. Just wondering if you’ve noticed different pickups reacting different to the sweep on the vol knobs and somewhat on the tone knobs (but not as noticeable on tone knobs). This is my 1st time swapping pickups since i loved my 2004 SG as it has been for last 20 yrs (490r/498t) and i have a PRS hollowbody II with 15/51 s pups? I cant remember off the top of my head lol. But everythjng ive left stock seem to have a smoother sweep..but ive left the factory pups in, this being my fav axe and i want to know if thats true that because i put in different pups (that have a little more output), would make the Vol knobs be more senesitive and then very quiet anything under 5 (unless amp is cranked up). But mostly now i stay between 7-10 to keep the volume close to the same , i just bring it down to clean ip the sound sometimes. Is that normal for a proper pup swap of higher output to react different in regards to the sweep being more senesitve from 10-6.5? Or any of the pots/knobs reacting different to different pickups then what was factory installed? (The wires are soldered in and i saw him be very gental and not apply as much silver to keep the wires connected, but by no means were the wires lose or about to fall off the back of pot silver thing lol)
Thanks for any insight if your into swapping pups around and if you’ve noticed different reactions when changing pups (everythjng still works, just not as much sweep option as before..not sure if thats cuz they were lower output?) or should i get someone else to look at them?

I have this guitar. It is a great instrument. I love it. It just feels right. Nice neck, not too thick. Holds tune well, yes, even G string.

I just ordered this guitar from Sweetwater for the AAA top and custom pickups. I was just going to get a Standard 50's but the one in stock had a weak flame. Side note on the guitar in this video, it's beautiful but I can't stop looking at the crooked poker chip...

Does anyone own a les Paul slash standard, if so could you tell me what the neck feels like ? I understand the slash standards have a 50s chunky neck , I used to have a les Paul 2015 traditional that had a 50s XL neck it was like a baseball bat I could never bond with it. Does anyone know what the slash model neck is like , is it really fat ? Thanks

It is a hefty neck, but thats what has worked for me. I love it. Its my first gibson. The pickups have some balls to them, really snarl through my peavey 6505+

It’s a bigger or fatter neck than gibsons slim taper necks which I like a lot but it’s not the baseball bat type neck. It feels good in my hands and I have medium size hands. If you can try out the 50’s series standards I think you will like it.

It’s it’s pretty much identical to the R9 custom neck, not too chunky like the 50s standard but meatier than the slim taper. I’ve got one in Nov burst and that’s as close to owning a custom as I’ll ever get 😆

I had a 50s standard, the neck was fat but not as fat as everyone says. It is comfortable. I just got a slash standard and it is not far off from the 50s and it is super comfortable.

You could get a regular USA standard 50s and put the Slash seymour Duncan's in it and you would still save 200 dollars. The neck profiles are the Same .
The Gibson USA 50s neck profiles are thinner than the Custom shop profiles. They sit in between a 59 profile and a 1960 profile.

Actually, the Slash models have a thinner neck than 50s standard. Slash is around .88-.98 while 50s is .90-1.00.

Hi , yeah I like it with the sunburst type colour, Slash signature model which I am really admired of guitarist "Slash" specially with his hit song "Sweetchild of Mine" . For the last 10 days, I have been trying to master it where I am trying to sing it , play rhythm as well as solo part and everything myself. Still I am not there yet in my acoustic . With regard to Les Paul model, I prefer the SG red one to this still as the sound is much clear tone and heavy as being by Angus AC/DC

The premium $500 is about my limit for price for a new guitar, so in that respect the nominal Slash fee is beyond my means. So are the Les Paul's that i would care to own, but they are the $2500 range. There are other brands that do it for me at cost i can absorb.
