Ours was diagnosed with the non-hyperactive variant of ADD. The lack of the "H" in the diagnosis made things much less stressful and we were lucky in that regard. There is real hope for them. He's a professor in a research university, has achieved a degree of prominence in his field, is an excellent father, and has become extremely socially skilled. He's eccentric, but not too eccentric. We were lucky, but it took work and the appropriate use of prescribed medications (which he didn't need after he was 19). The meds were important when he was a kid, As one example (there are others), without them he would sometimes walk into things. This isn't intended as bragging. It's to let people know that this is not a hopeless situation. Stay with it, keep your fingers crossed, very much try to learn what interests the kid, and do not destroy their self image.

    I love myth busters! 😘
I think this is one of the biggest problems with getting some people to seek treatment! They don't know what's truth or what's just plain hearsay.
This is why people need to go to a professional instead of listening to people who don't have a clue.
I graduated from high school some decades ago and at that time ADHD was hardly known. How many children were misdiagnosed or given wrong treatment because of little to no knowledge? And this is when the myths start flying.
The better a patient is informed, the better they will do. There aren't a lot of problems that can't be treated these days.
Look at when HIV became a big thing back in the 80's. There were more myths about it than truths. It's a shame we didn't have RUclips back then, or even computers to do valid searches.
But even with all the technology we have today, people don't always take the time to seek the true answer.
That's why it's so beneficial to have people like you! You dispell myths and give us pertinent information! I still think you should be called Super Docs! 😉
Once again you've given us accurate information, a good laugh and a great guest who added significant insight!
You've done it again Super Docs! You've given us the information we need to seek help for true a diagnosis and treatment.
Thanks for sharing another great video! 👍

After teaching for thirty years, I had several ADHD students, but one stands out prominently in my mind. A class of 30 other students couldn’t continue because of him. He was a bright, good looking, and charming young man, but a nightmare to have in class. I don’t know if he was medicated or not, but none of the social norms for a classroom seemed to include him. I often wonder how he turned out.

So in general we would agree those are good suggestions but there is little scientific research supporting a specific dietary link as a cause for ADHD. But yes eating healthy is always a good idea along with exercise. Thanks for watching and subscribing

@@TalkingWithDocs Never mind the scientific research. Just get two groups of children, let's say thirty in each group. Feed one group a meal consisting of fresh vegetables, and wholesome grains, and fruit and nuts, with water to drink. Feed the other group a meal consisting of chocolate and sugar, and highly processed potato chips and fizzy drinks. Then try teaching each group a school lesson. See which group has the ADHD.

I always hate hearing "some ADHD people can be very intelligent", I mean, do you say that about neurotypical people? The toughest thing about being ADHD is trying to fit into that majority neurotypical world. ADHD is a minority way of processing (5-8%), not really a disorder or deficit. I'd rather live in my world that jam myself into theirs and end up hating myself or medicating beyond what would be needed to survive outside neurotypical norms. There's no dislike toward neurotypicals, but public school and 9-5 jobs were enough to prove to me the majority of environments are not made for me unless I "med up". I developed my own skills and business, and people of all types come to me, from all over the world, on mutually reasonable terms. And, that hyperfocus is a nice trick to have in your bag too. ADHD should be celebrated, it's just "wonderfully different".

Interesting video. I have a request. I've never had ADHD but I've had various levels of depression throughout my life. Wondering if you guys could do an episode or two on depression. It is such a widespread problem with a lot of physical components and sometimes the only person someone suffering from depression has to reach out to is their doctor. But a lot of doctors, including mine, don't want to talk to you about depression, they just want to prescribe an anti-depressant. It's much more complex than that for me and maybe others out there. When my doctor does that, it just makes me feel more cut off, alone and depressed. Can you shed some light on this topic? I will say just watching your channel and enjoying the laughs and feeling of connection is helping my mood. Thanks so much for being so generous with you time and your talents.
