I would use polyurethane construction adhesive as the primary glue and the silicone adhesive around the edge. I wouldn't trust the silicone adhesive to hold it long term.
Hey Joseph! Thank you for taking your time on making this straight foward, how to do.. video! On my way to home depot to buy what i need. Thanks again!! 🔥
Any time.
Thank you Joseph K for the instructional video. I cleaned and scraped. Used a single-edge razor blade to get it right down to the tile. Instead of liquid nails, however, I used Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive. When I put the soap dish into the hole I tried to move it a bit to make sure it was in the right place. But. It. Didn't. Move! 😲 Still, I put tape across it "just in case." I just did the job right now so can't tell you if it will last forever but it sure seems like it will! Thanks again! I would never have thought to do all the things you told me to do to prepare!
good stuff don't need this tutorial but still real great stuff. An enjoyable documentary surely! Take care and have a great evening!!
Great comment. Don't need the response, but good comment.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Any time
Awesome job! Thanks for sharing!
Thank You.
Thx 🙏🏽
Thank for video my husband was in the shower tooting it up putting his foot on it while washing his behind and made ours break 😂
Thank you for the video.
Any time.
Thank you so much!!!!!!
You welcome.
I am glad I found this. Mine is exactly like this one and it fell off. Now I will go get the Liquid Nails and put it back on. That wall you are working on needs to be completely re-tiled.....or, cleaned with some strong cleaner.
Nice to know. It is a rental property after the tenant leave I will remodel the bathroom.
Thank you for this informative video, Joseph. I'm going to do this today and comment later hopefully on how well it went!
Thank You.
This worked perfectly. Thanks again!
Nice 👍
Thanks for the visit
Thank you for the video. Where did you get the soap dish? I’m looking for this exact one
Floor & Décor or Home Depot
That silicone caulking is full of mold. You can clean it by 1) wearing gloves 2) soaking a cotton cloth in full strength bleach 3) putting it on the moldy caulk for and leaving it there for 8 hours. After that, put more bleach on the clock and move it to the next part. Takes a while but it will all come clean.
Thank you. Tenant already cleaned it.
Just use foaming bleach spray. Spray the grout lines and don’t wipe it let it soak
Mine fell off when I was cleaning around it to re-caulk. The backer board behind it wasn't wet, but there was a hole in it, with no stud behind it. What would you recommend on how to repair it without without taking off an area of tile and replacing the backer Board. Thank you!
Curious what solution you found
OMG.... you are one funny guy
Thank You.
Good video. Can DAP Kwik Seal adhesive caulk be used to reattach the soap dish?
Yes if it is silicone
@@josephk9182 Okay. Thanks.
I overfilled it with silicone so the extra push through the cracks on all sides so I know it’s air tight. Then smooth out the silicone so it’s presentable
No, it won't be strong enough. Use PU construction adhesive.
He knows that tub is dirty and moldy he don’t need y’all telling him how to clean it like you’re so smart. That’s not his job right, right now it’s to put the soap dish back up. Good grief.
Correct.
But is that handle really strong enough for a person to grab onto? My handle just came off and there is no drywall behind it, just a 2x4 on the side.
Depend what s power you apply on it. The soap dish is to put soap and not to grab onto.
Not a handle...rag holder right?
not suppose to grab on to it. It's a rag holder
Mines fell off while I put my foot on it. 😩
Got to remember it’s an soap holder only and not a foot holder.
LIQUID NAILS? Get serious - use thinset mortar!
Thin set on drywall carton ? not a good idea.
Joseph K not thru
I've seen this guy on a couple other videos talking about how people are doing it wrong 😂😂🤣🤣
I tried this less than an hour ago. Future people, feel free to reply and ask if it held up. (Mine fell off after I held onto it and had the dried plaster still attached.)
You should use adhesive silicon not plaster.
Did it work?
@@soon2bparamedic480 Yep, it's still up with the liquid nails silicone (though I used the red Multi-Purpose Adhesive one).
You used the same stuff he did and the soap dish fell off?
@@surveytestmoney2550 No, it fell off before and I needed a way to reattach. It's still up after the liquid nails, three years counting.
Hmm... yeah it works and bit messy. dishwashing liquid and water with rubber applicator I prefer when applying silicon to the final job. The condition of that wet area is appalling that is black mold.
This bathroom was remodeled 2 month ago alter tenants left.
Why not grout?
Will not work !! Only silicon work for ever.
Looks like a cob job to me.
you might want to renew the whole bathroom first
I eventually did it.
@@josephk9182 👍 nice
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. What a stuff up... The wall is really wet because water is getting in which means you have a Ton of trouble going on behind those tiles. Best you rip those tiles off the wall and waterproof it all. Forget about the soap dish
It will fail you are rushing this job not using the right materials!
lmmfao that shit wont last
Judging by the looks of your tub I would say the soap dish is the least of your worries. Gross!
It is not my bath room or tub, It is rental property.
@@josephk9182 but it’s your rental property? The tenants may get mold-induced illness!
@@craigkilstrom7522 Yes. The tenat already cleaned the bathroom he did not use it for sometime because of the soap dish situation and mold starting growing on the bath calking. I am planing to remove the bath walls because it is ceramic tile on drywall. I will put backer board instead with porcelain tiles.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
🤣😂🤣😂🤣are you kidding me what about the important thing the edges to protect the water getting in when you wore install it a nice temporary job!
It never fail.
@@josephk9182 HAHAHAHAHAHA. It will
My advise is to get a licenced plumber who knows how to make the installation hold
It holds with no issue for years.
plumbers install pipe, not soap dishes. However they will gladly take your money and do what was done in this video.
The soap dish is old fashioned and dysfunctional. Why not add a niche for the soap instead of setting yourself up for future repairs, as the extended dish will fall off again and again. Besides, the niche looks better and are easier to clean.
Eventually I replaced all the ceramic and the soap dish.
Such terrible advice. LMAO
Can water getting behind tiles in shower?
Yes, and cause damage. The most common cause is worn out caulk between the wall and the surface of your . However, also seep into the wall if there are missing or grout. Once the wall, the will weaken the wallboard.
