Thanks for sharing your story ✨ It's somewhat similar to mine. Grad school, 200K debt... With the increase in salary (and a low cost of living), I was able to pay mine off in a little over 2 years. It was an emotional struggle and required some personal sacrifice. But it was totally worth it. Student loans are a huge burden on so many levels, glad to be free of them. Hopefully you will be able to experience the same in time!

What did you go in grad school in? Just curious
I am also a 6 figure earner and Mindset plays a huge role in combating large amounts of debt. I have 4 degrees and graduated with (31 individual loans) $220k in private and federal loans. I took advantage of the student loan pause and paid that down to a little under 50k. Still a chunk left but it’s doable. 🎉

I started around 150k and have pay off around 40k in the last couple of years, you can do it,just going to take time! rooting for you

Oh I appreciate your transparency. You got this even though it my seem like a lot. There are people with more. I recently did a video where I talked about my student loan debt and how I plan to tackle it.

I have 150K. It's a whole process and journey. Thanks for sharing your story. I was turned away from the program initially, and then applied again. I was probably being steered away. I even considered transferring 2nd year to a very affordable state program but still stuck with the expensive school. I am accepting my experience but still feels bittersweet.
I applaud and Thank you for sharing; and simply taking the time to thoroughly explain your situation. This is an issue of concern that is disrupting to so many individuals.

Thank you for sharing your story . Yours and many others mine included is the reason why student loans are in the news now. I graduated in 2020 with very close to your amount of debt and took my first job in 2021. Instead of using the money to buy an investment property I used my work bonuses to pay off my loans within a year. I also welcomed a baby in 2022. To me it made sense to pay it off while we have no interest. So I am thankful for the interest pause. Wishing you peace and yes you will pay them off !
I'm in a similar boat.... grad school debt ballooned up to over $192,000 before I started tackling it this year. I feel so much shame as well and it kept me up at night and would make me burst into irrational angry fits when I thought about it. There was definitely a whole generation of us sold on college (or grad school in particular) for a better future/more money/career advancement.... and maybe that's true in the long run. But is 200K of debt worth it, even if you earn more money over a 30 year career? I also understand your frustration with people making comments about "taking responsibility for the choices you've made." But you can take responsibility and still be angry and recognize all the BS you fell for with higher education. I hate the decisions that I made in regards to school, but after years of ignoring my debt it seems the whole way to get past this part of my life is just to blast through the debt. Find people who support your journey and stay off of twitter when it comes to student debt, ha!
Hey there! Thank you for sharing your story. And yes, you're right. Probably best to stay OFF of twitter for a bit haha! I definitely feel what you're saying here. I'm at the point where I'm ready to tackle it, however, as I do - I really have to address my mindset regarding it because it's counter productive :( Wishing you the best in your journey!
Don't feel shame over your debt. Instead learn what it is that you did wrong in the thinking process that got you in it. I got myself into 110k student loan debt that I could never pay off in 16 years as a teacher. It was only through loan forgiveness that I was able to get it paid off in 2022.
What's unfortunate is we take on student loan debt without really understanding whether or not our career choice will allow us to pay it off. And income-based payments will never pay off the debt.
And all the people over the last three years that have not had to make any payments, due to the pandemic, who are just now starting to make payments ... are going to realize that.
But never hate or shame on yourself for it. I mean it.
By grad school debt do you mean only a masters degree or you including both masters and a phd?

Thank you so much for sharing your story and I can really relate!! I also have a mountain of student loan debt incurred mainly from graduate school and loan interest - after getting my Bachelor's, I worked two to three jobs in food service and retail for several years just to survive, and finally decided to pursue my Master's thinking it would be an investment in my future - and it has been that investment in terms of salary and career fulfillment, but I am still just scraping by. I too don't have a family safety net to fall back on, and I think what many people don't understand is that when you come from a lower income family background, you don't have anyone to model or teach you how to make smart financial decisions, and you're basically on your own... I carry so much shame and guilt for not knowing what I wish I'd known too, but I also know that while I hold responsibility for my decisions, capitalism benefits from our desperation!!! A couple of years after I graduated from undergrad, my late father said "I never thought my kids would see a world where a college degree no longer ensures you will make enough to have a decent life - now it doesn't even guarantee survival." Thank you again for sharing your story and for the inspiration to try to face the debt monster head on - it helps us all feel less alone when we shine a light on our struggles and support each other ❤❤❤Many thanks
Saying you need a degree to be successful is like saying you need a car to get to school. Sure you can still walk to school(no degree)!” But it’s gonna be harder. That doesn’t mean you need to finance a Ferrari just to get to school. If you’re spending boat loads of money to go to college, you picked the wrong college.

Hi! This is a bit of a random question but I found your channel as an “older” than traditional student looking into AMDA. How much debt did you happen to have before AMDA? I am lucky to have ”only” 30k, but the biggest thing keeping me from going is how scared I am of the debt. Do you think it was worth it in the long run?
I love this video. This was the first video I watch from the beginning to end about this student loan debt. I have a question and I'll be glad if you answer.
I'm currently a senior and interested in a lot of careers. I have been accepted in three universities at the moment, but what's really bothering me is the tuition. I don't want to be in a lot of student debt. The reason why I say it like that because I know I'll have some kind of debt given that I'm in a low income family. The careers that I'm interested in is presented at a community college which gives me the opportunity to transfer to an university.
Should I just attend university or community college first?
I've ask a lot of people this question and I've been told to not to worry about student debt since everyone is in it, but me personally I don't want to be in no debt.
If you can do community college, do it! There is nothing wrong with getting an education at a fraction of a cost you’d be paying at university. If you can get a job and stay with your parents, even better! When you’re ready, transfer to university. There’s no reason a young person should be starting their life owing 100k or more PLUS INTEREST to a school. Plus, what if you get to community college and change your mind? There is nothing wrong with that! But again you don’t want a big burden of debt following you around and haunting your every decision. Learn from others mistakes
Also! Credit cards are NOT free money. If you swipe you better make sure you have money to pay it right back. If you don’t, don’t use it! Again not free money. And those interest rates are not kind. Go to community college, get a part time job, save up and have discipline! It’s the road less taken, but it IS worth it. And don’t try to keep up with the joneses. If you don’t have the money to pay for something, you can’t afford it and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Work, school and save!

I think we have to stop the predatory lending before we can cancel student debt. Otherwise this problem will happen again.
We also need to be teaching kids how money works. I, as well as many others, had no idea how handle and budget money.

Speaking as an older millennial, I paid my 50k loan in 7 years working two jobs and occasionally freelancing as a videographer. I'm never going back to college. Certifications and tradesman work are better.
Im from a different country, and I loved this video. What gets on my nerves is the awful comments and you having to qualify every single statement. Why can't people just accept a good story with a good moral arch that can actually help others. The entire US system is broken, student debt shouldn't be a lifetime ball and chain.

Biden isn’t forgiving any student debt it’s all a sham designed to make you believe they care. They’re the ones behind the school loans, you think they want you out of it?
Also, we gotta stop this manifesting bs. I paid all my loans off and it wasn't from manifestation. It was from doing my research before i took out the loans to know which ones had the best interest rate and terms then taking out no more than 20k so i knew i could pay it back with a regular job, calling the loan officer when I graduated and getting on a plan that would allow me to pay more on the principal, joining the military to get my graduate school paid for, and paying off my undergrad loans during the COVID pause.

My sister and I went to Art school and got around 30k government loans each + my dad was signed up into getting Parent Plus loans ballooning to $100k so 50k each of us…. He thought our bachelors would be able to pay it off but we all failed to realize the cost of living in LA vs income is really not working in our benefit so since my dad is low income he has deferred payments since 2015 and hopefully can just keep differing now that he’s retiring… meanwhile my sister didn’t graduate since the school added more classes she had to take after coming back from a one year break from school and she just gave up and decided to try to do her own freelance business instead. Working freelance she hardly makes low income and didn’t pay the loans back at all so after 7 yrs the debt got completely erased off her credit reports though her credit got down to around 150 at one point since she didn’t use credit cards or anything to try to fix it until now. Then on the other hand in the 7 yrs I have slowly been increasing income while keeping cost of living at an ok level with rent control and slowly making payments to the loans so now I’m getting the rest of it forgiven through the Debt Relief, though the other option was Loan Forgiveness through Borrower Defense since my school did a lot of illegal predatory lending, such as how my dad ended up with loans…and I could get all of it forgiven or returned through the defense program. It’s just a long application process
You screwed your dad. Now I know why my mom refused to sign anything. Kids like you and these horror stories mess it up for people like me. You better treat your Dad like a king until he dies
