I had a combo cart that had Battle for Bikini Bottom and Breakin Da Rulz, but I always wanted the movie game because it looked so much more interesting and competent (and also shoutout to Republic Heroes, a game that was never meant to run on a PS2 or PSP but somehow did in all twenty frames of glory)
It is actually kinda amazing how much budget and people they randomly decided to throw at spongebob videogames. Other licensed games crash and burn and vanish within 5 years at most, but the Spongebob videogames are basically a gameseries in their own right at this point. Sadly, the quality is all over the place. Some games are great, some good, some decent, some kinda stinky actually. Even the intent pingpongs behind each game, some clearly have a lot of passion behind them and some are just weird cashgrabs(like that one last-gen Herosponge game that got delisted and was memed by gamers for not even bothering to reuse fitting musicpieces, instead using the most stock-sounding stuff from other Spongebob media). 2:31 I'm fairly sure this is not even a port or even a tie-in to anything else, this was just legit their idea of a first attempt into the videogame market for the sponge with even an original concept. And well, I guess we all have to start somewhere, lol. Like, obviously it's not going to look as good and consistent as this game for simply being on the weaker hardware, but like...if it is going to look this mid visually, there was no real reason for manually using the hardware's capabilities, they may actually have gotten better results from just releasing it for Gameboy and letting the GBC do the coloring for them.

Like, obviously it's not going to look as good and consistent as this game for simply being on the weaker hardware, but like...if it is going to look this mid visually, there was no real reason for manually using the hardware's capabilities, they may actually have gotten better results from just releasing it for Gameboy and letting the GBC do the coloring for them.
