I lived in this beautiful Karen area. It useful to be haven on earth. Most houses were of colonialist architecture design. The beautiful well maintained garden and a kayaper fence surrounding five acre plots looked stunning. Now all those have been subdivided into half acre plots. It seems somehow crowded now.

My grandma had a thatched hut, but her compound was clean, manicured lawn and lots of trees. It's all in the mind. I once planted trees along the access road to my place. My idea was to make a boulevard of some sort. One morning, I found all the trees and hedges uprooted. You cant change a pig.
I am not sure how I ended up here, perhaps it was home beckoning me. You see I was born and raised in Karen until the age of 12, when I had to leave abruptly and go make a home elsewhere. That was 50 years ago. I have not had the opportunity to go back. Watching this video, Karen has changed tremendously. The small village feel is gone, with so much over growth and back to back housing. Nothing stays the same as time goes by. But I wish every day that I hadn't been made to leave my life in Kenya. Yes, despite living in the west, my heart still considers Kenya to be my country. As they say, the hearts wants what it wants. Thank you for the video.

Back in the day a place like Ndeiya had no trees, just shrubs. Today the place is covered with trees.
The slums are mainly temporary housing in terms of they weren't in the plan.
Slums are as a result of encroachers just grabbing any available space and putting up some sort of shacks
We introduced hanging gardens in kibra n they just serve to show landlords where there is space to squeeze another shack...Crazy😣

Karen area is so beautiful and spacious. Its hard to imagine the greenery of the suburbs if you are in high density parts of Nairobi. By the way, do we still have regular cabs/ taxis access cos am seeing many 'ndudhis'?
