Activists speak after winning Montana climate case

- Climate activists are celebrating a Monday court decision in which a judge ruled Montana had violated plaintiffs' rights to a clean and healthful environment. Experts call this ruling the "first of its kind" not only for its potential environmental effects, but also because the plaintiffs were some of the state's youngest citizens -- ranging in age from five to 22. Plaintiff Badge Busse and attorney Julia Olson join CBS News to discuss the case.

Montana's Constitution, written in 1979 states that we have a right to a clean and healthful environment. Our governor, Greg gianforte who is a creationist tried to get it changed this year to no avail!

Far too many of my fellow oldies (I'm 73) behave as ostriches, burying their heads in the sand and attempting to fool themselves that climate change is a chimera. I have 15 grandsons in 🇨🇦🇰🇪&🇦🇺, aged 18 months to 13. All those in double digits belong to various environmental groups and my six kids each subscribe to the WWF (which I joined as a schoolboy in 1958) and others. They have participated in school-lead and youth peaceful demos from Brisbane to Vancouver, Nairobi to London, and Auckland to Amsterdam. Keep up and even boost your vital, seminal campaign. The GOP today stands for Gut Our Posterity. 😢

so if i read right montanas power is about 50/50 fossil/renewable. will montana be shutting down 50% of their power production because some kids don't understand how the real world works? do they have any idea what goes into making their cell phones, or their cars..even electrical cars are manufactured with plastic parts made from oil and metal that is mined using diesel machines.
So does this mean they will be walking home and wear only non petro produces. That means they will be mostly naked. You know it a scam when you get a five year old involved.
Each kid with a brand new cell phone, new clothes and newer car. YOU do something about the climate. You should do it. Not them.

Such issues can’t be appealed. You can’t appeal a won case actually. So yes it is over.
No way will this win in the Federal supreme court it's dead on arrival this lawyer is just using this to bolster her own political ambitions. I agree with a lot of her ideas but her legal case is weak
Because it’s based on a Montana constitutional argument, it can only go as far as the MT supreme court. The kids’ case is as strong as the state’s defense is weak.

Those of us that are paying attention can see that there is a crisis. Florida's water temperature reached 101° this July. Every ecosystem on earth is declining precipitously.
And this is the coolest summer in the Midwest on record in the last 47 years
We should value adults more.
Will any of these kids be willing to give up the convenience of electricity at their homes? I don't think so. Bear in mind that most electricity generated in the USA comes from fossil fuel.
So basically, they want electricity as long as its fossil fuel comes from a far away land -- not their neighborhood.
I will have A LOT MORE RESPECT for these young "activists" including the "five year old activist" if all give up electricity at home; otherwise, we just have a bunch of hypocrites.

You can't have it all. If they are against fossil fuel then they should lead by example and boycott any life convivence that is provided by fossil fuel. That is, it is hypocrite to fight fossil fuel in their neighborhood yet will be glad to enjoy the benefit of fossil fuel taken from far away neighborhoods.
They made it clear that this is for "climate change" -- not for water pollution.
Because we couldnt possibly build more electrical generation now could we?
