      I don't think Stallone is fair here. Winkler and Chartoff gave him a chance when nobody else would and they mortgaged their own houses to cover all necessary expenses. If Rocky wasn't financially successful, they would probably lose more than Stallone who didn't pay a cent for it. Stallone had more than one chance to buy the rights, he had enough money, but he doesn't want to pay for it, he wants it for free, and Stallone is actually very greedy in real life, he's obsessed with money and he tries to earn bucks near any corner he can, from NFT to endless unnecessary sequels to his franchises. James Cameron doesn't own Terminator franchise, it was the price he had to pay to make it, now he's very rich he had tons of chances to buy it back, but he doesn't care about it and just let it go. Stallone should do the same or try to buy it back if he wants it so much.

      @@kdscool1536 Well said. Sounds like Stallone is being manipulative. Imagine you build an art gallery - you finance it, you risk your house by putting it up as collateral, you design it, you build it, from the bricks to the insulation to the installations and everything else. Someone stars in it as live art. You pay him loads of money. The art gallery eventually closes - and then he wants to own it?! And if you say "no, that's not in the contract and it's not a normal thing", he goes on talk shows and tries to make you look like the nasty person? That's basically what Stallone has done. It's not the slightest bit normal nor expected for an actor to own a movie - there are rare exceptions, but in general, the producers make it, the actor stars in it. Simple as that.

      @rogueuniversities6866 Год назад +4

      @Jason Skinner And that gallery owner equivalent paid the artist. The producers make plenty of money yes - if their film does well. They had to put their houses up as collateral and if the film had not done well, they'd have been screwed. They risked loads of their money. The actor risked none. The actor gets paid regardless, especially if they are part of an actor's union such as Equity. The actor didn't create the movie - they were simple an aspect of the whole thing.

      Carva Lone, "ripped off"? Stallone sold the "Rocky" screenplay rights to producers Winkler and (now-deceased) Robert Chartoff, in exchange for MGM/United Artists letting him play the lead role (the studio wanted a star to play Rocky); "Our commitment to him, was that he could star in it," Winkler told The Hollywood Reporter. "We convinced United Artists to give us the money to make it; they would only give us a limited amount of money, & they said that we had to put up our houses as collateral. We really mortgaged ourselves to make sure that we brought it in on time, and we did."
      For "Rocky" (the first one), in addition to the money for selling the screenplay & his acting salary, Stallone also got *10 net points*, which earned him at least $2.5 million on the back-end. For "Rocky" II & III, in addition to acting salary & directing salary, Stallone got millions on the back-end.
      He sold the screenplay for the right to star in the movie [as a total unknown with no box-office draw], AND salary, AND millions on the back-end. Getting his foot in the door allowed him to write 20 movies, star in over 77 movies, direct 8 movies, have a movie franchise that lasted 42 years, and amass a net worth of $400 MILLION dollars. His net worth is 4X as big as the producer Winkler. I think he got the better of the bargain😂😂

      @@Pavelflash Here's where your analogies fall apart;
      Stallone wrote the story, screenplay, and insisted he play Rocky and the direction did not deviate from the story. It was all his predetermined writing and direction. Avelston was basically just a stand-in consultant "director" for Rocky 1 and Stallone officially directed 2, 3 and 4. Stallone did all the work prior to becoming an "employee". Winkler was simply the money to make the film. Those truths pretty much make your analogy look really ignorant. Secondly, Stallone said in the interview, maybe you missed that too-that things should be equal, not Winkler taking the higher % of the revenue AND the rights. Basically your analogy favors Stallone in truth; Stallone created, wrote, directed and starred. Winkler paid for the production. That is not what you described and its certainly not the typical showbiz scenario you laid out. He wasnt just some actor who got chosen and employed. In fact, Stallone waa so down financially that he sold the movie rights, NOT the franchise, for a measley 35k because he needed the money so bad. So basically, Winkler was just another greedy Hollywood punk who took advantage of Stallone, basically stole the rights by paying peanuts, THEN, stole the bigger cut and the story creation rights. That makes Winkler a scumbag weasle. Do you understand now?

    There is a way Stallone can get the rights back. Since the movie was made before 1978, the author has to wait 55 or 56 years to terminate their agreement (after 1978 is 35 years). If Stallone can hang on until 2031 or 2032, then he can get the rights back. He may have to sue (because Hollywood producers are notoriously jerks), but he'll win. If Stallone can't make it till then, he can leave instructions for his estate to get the rights back at that time. Wes Craven's estate did the same thing for the rights to "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in 2019. Sly can get the rights back for his family; the issue is will he be here to see it.

    His problem is..."I don't know how he did that."...he should know that part by now.

      He knows but he just doesn't want to say it. He is genuinely a nice guy. But if he did say it he would probably be "cancelled" and called antis€mitič etc etc.
      Its sad.
