    I remember the internet before the LIKE button. It was a whole different story, you would go on a private forum and just discuss about topics, without having the possibility to upvote or down vote (like or unlike) somebody's comment. It would be actually more about reading and thinking about what the other had to say on a certain topic and try to come to some kind of common point of view. Of course there was also arguments, but it was a lot more about reasoning . The possible reward of a like has made people write differently .

But yeah, every single time I find myself harshly criticizing someone else, I turn it back and ask what it is about them that’s triggering me about myself. @@deficateanddefy I genuinely don’t care how detached someone is from everyday people, all I care about is the insight they can bring. I don’t watch Rogan much anymore just because after awhile you notice that just like listening to anyone speaking for days worth of conversation, he repeats the same ideas frequently, which can quickly get boring if the topics don’t appeal to you. So seeing someone interview him and pick his brain on topics he usually doesn’t go into detail on yet is knowledgeable on is refreshing.

      But, I would suggest that he tries to investigate most things with an open heart and an open mind.
      Is he perfect? No. Does he ever screw up? Definitely. But, he's just one person, doing their best to observe the human condition, and our world.
      He's not a fount of truth. He's not a villain. He's a voice. And, to some that is a dangerous thing. To many it is a blessing.

      You should explore more, Rogan isn’t popular for no reason. The difference in people and podcasts like breaking points and Rogan is that breaking points needed The Hill to be able to gather fans, and needs joe in order to promote their own podcast. School is a 1way conversation, no feedback. Television and Print is a 1way conversation, no feedback. The internet changed everything because for the first time, when 'The Powers That Be' said something you didn't agree with, you had a platform using your keyboard to say why and offer alternative perspectives, opinions and resources for individual research for one to develop their own opinion after hearing multiple sides of a story/topic.

    • @Microtherion
      @Microtherion 2 года назад

      Except that barely happens any more. The opinions people were offering have been 'domesticated' somehow, and the range of opinions which are acceptable keeps getting smaller. I once corrected someone's spelling on Facebook, and got an official warning for that (!) Absolutely any statement is potentially some kind of 'thought-crime', and it's simultaneously petty/unimportant and horrifying... I don't care, but I do, so to speak. It keeps people in a state of near-total 'existential confusion'...

I blogged for like 13 years, got caught up in alot of the politics and issues, got too burned out and haven't blogged since october 2020, figured I need a break, and spend more time on other things ... just got a tad burned out reading similar blogs and blogging myself. Joe makes a really interesting point, just shy of 5 minutes in. 'If you look up nothing but puppies, the recommendations will just show you puppies'. Lol. But that's not what I find: either the algorithms are more complicated than that, or I 'confuse' them somehow, 'cause I get recommendations which are completely (even diametrically) opposed to anything I believe. It's really puzzling. Possibly, if you're fairly open-minded, the mechanism just goes haywire and becomes completely 'random'? It gives me total gibberish either way. :)

    • @ThePodgeiscool
      @ThePodgeiscool 2 года назад +1

      That's interesting! The algorithm is aware of our tendancy to engage with ideas or opinions we disagree with, or for us to 'hate' on a difference of opinion to our own. And thus to create a more debates on a site which leads to more time spent on the site, and deeper pockets for the owners of the site. It's not in our interest for us to be angry more often it's in their interest.

    • @Microtherion
      @Microtherion 2 года назад

      @@ThePodgeiscool Thanks. Yes - I think that's probably the largest part of the answer. Although the algorithm goes too far, if so: it shows me some things which I *might* be inclined to get angry about, but also things which are so way off, I'll just roll my eyes and never click on them. I guess it's fortunate that neither the AI nor the tech guys are very bright... More precisely, the programmers are smart, but not very insightful, and the owners - well, I needn't give an opinion on them. :)

    We basically all needed a trusted adult to teach us how to behave on the internet and we never had that lol. We had drug education training at school, but we probably all needed internet training as well. You have the whole world at your disposal and society wasn't ready for that kind of power and that's why it didn't always go well lol.
    Here's the 3 things I think people should do. Don't waste time arguing with strangers or letting them rope you in. Don't spend more than a couple of hours a day on the internet. Don't do anything you wouldn't want your parents seeing.
    As the internet gets older, people will realize how to adapt just by our God-given intelligence and knowing how to adapt. It started off as the Wild West, but I'd love to see the internet enter a new phase where the good parts are maximized and the damaging parts are avoided.

At the end of the day, you can curate your own experience. When I find something makes me angry (the bad kind of angry) I just stop engaging with it. I remember spending maybe an hour on the internet mostly for news and school and going outside or out in town to hangout. Then around 2007 things just changed. The biggest issue with the internet, mainly social media is that you do have freedom of speech, so as long as you conform and don't have an opinion of your own. RUclips is the only social media site I use and haven't touched the others in nearly 3 years.

    • @edwardroh89
      @edwardroh89 3 года назад

      RUclips does some sneaky censorship. In terms of RUclips comments and if your comments are not appropriate, it is never shown or notified to you that you get censored, but to others it is. The problem is they get to define what is "inappropriate". For RUclips content creators, with the exception of very popular RUclipsrs who've been established for years, newer RUclipsrs can get censored under vague "violations". There are many instances of that happening. Used to be better but as America becomes swallowed whole by corporations it's gotten worse and becoming more aligned with other media sites. Do i have without a doubt information of this happening? Of course not because only Google has information on what they change in the algorithm and who they target. Scary

    Don’t comedians make their living off making fun of people and complaining?

    • @GardenGuy1943
      @GardenGuy1943 3 года назад

      Yeah, but the difference is that comedy is storytelling that’s reflective of societal peculiarities intended to make the entire audience laugh. Blatant insults/complaints (like the ones online) are just unhealthy.

    • @bessietgrow
      @bessietgrow 3 года назад

      @@GardenGuy1943 Often people insult another person and their peers laugh at it. If the subject of the insult is offended the person making the comments can say they’re just joking. I don’t see how whether it’s designed to make other people laugh makes any difference. I love how observant good comedians are and how they call society out on their bs. The part I have a problem with is that he is trying to paint himself out to be above that when he makes his living off of it with his comedy and his podcasts. Especially his more laid back podcasts. They spend the whole time shit talking people and society. How is this different than what he’s claiming to be against? He comes across as a self righteous hypocrite to me

    • @GardenGuy1943
      @GardenGuy1943 2 года назад

      @@bessietgrow Because when something is a joke or intended to make someone laugh, it is playful - that is the art of comedy. Part of what makes Joe so popular is that he doesn’t target people online (Twitter/FB/etc), and more importantly isn’t insecure about himself. Joe was commenting about people that feverishly attack one another online, how the insecurity/aggression/mean-spiritedness wrecks people, and how he feels good by not engaging in that. If you think that’s self-righteous, then you need to spend less time thinking about Joe Rogan 😂. In all seriousness, you do make a good point, and I hope my comments helped further your perspective (wherever you end up) - have a great day!

    • @bessietgrow

      @@GardenGuy1943 Part of what he said was about toxic people targeting other people and I agree, that is negative and unhealthy but he also says most people use social media to complain about people and society and that he thinks that is also negative. That is literally what he does for a living depending on one’s definition of complaining. Since most people don’t do that for a living they do it in their spare time. That doesn’t make them any different from him in their participation though just explains why Joe doesn’t look to do that in his spare time. He claimed he looks at sports and cars. Of course he would when he spends his work hours looking into issues in society. Then Krystals whole take on virtue signaling is hilarious because that’s also what she does for a living! Calls out people for their horrible behavior and shares it with an audience! The whole clip is just them being disingenuous

    I really enjoy this show a lot, but sometimes, okay, all of the time, Joe Rogan talks too much. He needs to let his guests talk more and let them field questions from him and maybe have fans of the show and or the guest(s) call in and ask questions.

    Maybe try stretching these videos out and not posting them all within 2 minutes of each other, most "clip" channels space them out over a couple days

      I mean, the point is to increase views and watch time by posting shorter clips with engaging titles in order to keep viewers invested in each video goes without saying. Not sure for most people but I’m just putting these all down as we speak. Very easily consumable and no annoying wait time. Not sure how well it fairs compared to spreading it out by my guess is they just wanted to get as many clips out before they released the full podcast to both get people excited as well as maximize potential views since people would be less inclined to watch a bunch of clips if the full podcast was already released

      They incorrectly operate on the premise that people prefer small nibbles of info, to hopefully lure them into seeking out the rest. Nothing wrong with that, but if it’s an enjoyable product, people will inevitably come, without the need to lure or even need to boost relevancy off the back of a popular, organically grown podcast.
