If you play the game around how the weapons were DESIGNED TO BE USED, then its not much of a gameplay issue. That attachment for the Garand was.designed to be used as a dyanmic option in UNIT warfare. Two sides of squad strengh or higher firing at each other from positions of cover with no purchase and/or a light vechicle entering the fray. A soldier could, in this situation, take the 20-30 seconds tyey would realistically need to debreach, mount the attachment, fire to dislodge an emplacement, group of soldiers, or a light vehicle, and re chamber the normal cartridges. You REALLY want to run pell mell around the battletield trying to get a flank position and then use an explosive? Well good news! They actually made a pretty fast an reliable option gor that in WW2. They called them GRENADES. :P Ya can't use modern warfare tactics designed for small spec. ops. groups with 80 year old kit designed for large army tactics and not expect complications.
I stand corrected - The rifle in this game depicts an M7 grenade launcher (the adapter that stays affixed to the end of the rifle) and an M11 rifle grenade, which is why the whole thing flies off of the end of the rifle. I was only previously knowledgeable of the M1 grenade adapter which has 4 spring-like prongs to hold your standard Mk. 2 fragmentation grenade. If you look it up you can find all of these pictures.

Yeah that's kinda a goof, especially since the grenade reappears on the rifle after it's been shot off.
