I still listen to Badlands ... Great musicians and my oh my what a voice Ray had!!!!!!
@@ROOKTABULA I guess you are talking about him still having sex with groupies and other chicks well after he knew he was HIV positive?
I also heard that … of course I don’t know if it’s true.
If it is true however…. That is brutal… it’s murder basically…!!
So underrated, the original lineup and album are amazing
100% agree! I so wish I could have seen them live, along with Lynch Mob.
@@garysanders3193 My first concert seeing them open for Cinderella. One of my all time favorite albums.
That first Badlands album is gold!
I almost feel guilty buying the first 2 Badlands CD's for $3 each used, in the 90s before Rock fans really grew to understand how awesome they were I emphasize, ALMOST... lol ;)
Yup and unfortunately because of what Rey did prior to his death caused this album to get buried. It will not ever be put out again because of a particular lawsuit and how it was settled.
I knew Ray. check out Rondinelli on Spotify. It was the band he was in before badlands . They were great. Bobby and teddy Rondinelli were as awesome as well. James Lorenzo from white lion was also in that band. I used to get to sit in on their rehearsals mid 80s. Ray was an amazing talent. In person in the room he blew you away.
Greg Chaisson is truly a class act !
Greg did some amazing playing with Badlands. Very talented guy.
Ray really had some vocal chords. The song “Seasons “. on the first one gets me every time.
All three badlands albums are keepers
I lived with Eric in the mid 90s. Greg would come over and Eric said the same thing, they were friends after Badlands. Too bad they're not anymore. Greg was a steely eyed cool guy and a great, solid bass player.
Did Eric ever say that he didn't like Greg?
I loved Badlands back in 89. What an awesome band, I wish they would have lasted longer and got more success. I am so glad that I got to see them twice.
Doctor Eddie Ganja here Love the first 2 Badlands albums saw the first 2 Badlands tours Jake E Lee is a great guitar player Ray Gillen was a great singer great band keep Rockin !!!
Got to see Red Dragon Cartel with Greg Chaisson on bass!!!
Bandlands; What a band!!!
I adore that first album!
Another great interview! Thank you for all your work.
I Agree Totally ..
Love this band. Bought the debut when it first came out. So much better than Jakes stuff with Ozzy. Greg is a super great guy.
One of a kind album!! Masterpiece!!
Greg is Tremendous.
Austin Tx in a bar called The Backroom or the Basement I was there watching Badlands fucking awesome!
One thing that isn't true here, when Jake hooked up with Ray and Eric, they did have a bassist. They also brought Dave Spitz. Jake made the comment "wait, this is Black Sabbath only I'm replacing Tony Iommi. No, that's not happening. Besides I have someone else in mind." And he still made Greg audition.
I found the first Badlands album on sale at a pawn shop for $1. I’m not kidding.
I found a copy on vinyl too just about 4 months ago at a thrift store for 10$
If it's an original you have a very valuable album.
If it's an original copy, you better lock that thing up in a vault and not let anyone near it. Since Atlantic Records will never reissue any of the album's by Badlands, or grant any reissue licenses to another company.
I think the first Badlands album sounds great. I guess it would sound better with more bass guitar. That album deserves to go GOLD! 💿
Greg is my Ex's cousin, really nice guy! Greg's younger brother Kenny was in 80's band Keel and his other brother Todd was in the glam band Tuff. They are a very musically talented family. My Ex was good at playing guitar as well, must be in the blood!
You ask some killer questions..these are all fucking great interviews
great interview, greg is right the bass is really produced out of the first record, any diehard badlands fan knows that, but man what a great record, and i know what he's talking about with the production, but the music was so good, and the musicianship, even if eric and greg didn't get along, all of that didn't hurt jake's amazing writing and playing, and of course ray on vocals, the guy was a fricking phenom.
even jake and ray had a falling out, so this project wasn't destined to last, high wire is one of the best rock songs ever written and performed, the whole album great...
loved voodoo highway too, but it didn't have the high energy of the first one, same thing with other bands from that era, skid row, bullet boys, cinderella (yes i know they had their radio hits on #2), but their first albums are classics, there's a drop off (for my tastes) in the second records...
No, he's great......i really like Jake. Love his F U attitude, which wouldn't work with anyone else
Greg is a nice guy.
Greg Chaisson was very talented and kind of a badass throughout the 80s and early 90s. He was on the verge of "making it" big for years. I hate that he didn't end up with a Van Halen, Sabbath, Ozzy, etc. He belonged in a supergroup. I don't blame Grunge, I just think that tastes changed really.
Great Chaisson went on to join the Christian metal band Die Happy which featured former members of Vengeance Rising. Die Happy were a really good band who played classic heavy metal with a bluesy feel.
Vengeance Rising...now there's a band with quite a story.
I agree that Voodoo Highway does sound more organic, i only wish the first record was produced the same.
Eric Singer is a great Guy and even a better Drummer
These guys smelt which way the wind was blowing , moving away from spandex to swagger and blues rock, but guns n roses got the prize. Pity, loved the cover and fire and rain, should have been a hit.
never heard that perspective before.
Great Album Badlands 1
Singer did great drums on Eternal Idol for Sabbath, his drum intros have the coolest feel, Gregg would have been better than Spitz in my opinion, seems like Gregg and Geezer have more of a feel for " the blues"
The first badlands album was the best in my opinion. Paul O Neil basically saved Savatage from being dropped from Atlantic records and went on to produce more great records with them (Hall of the mountain king, Gutter Ballet and Streets, etc; ) Producers tend to put their spin on things and maybe the album was a bit too polished then what jake wanted, but that what producers do.
But that piece of shit fucked Badlands over.
@@MrNWA4Life wrong. Ray Gillen fcked badlands, by catching HIV and knowingly spreading it. Paul knew about it and told the record company. And lawsuits from the families of those who were affected is the reason why those albums will never again be re-released.
Jake is such a cool guy.
Greg kind of sounds like Jake E Lee
I thought the same thing while I was doing the interview.
I honestly thought it was Jake speaking
Ive always been a guitar guy myself and Ozzy wouldn't have been shit if it weren't for all of the amazing musicians surrounding him. They fucked over so many people and it would serve him n Sharon both if everyone involved sued them for every nickel they have.
Everyone knows Ozzy wrote the entire Badlands record on the piano one note at a time... then he gave Ray Gillen the aidz.
:D
Jeez
I just squirted soda out of nose you prick....ah fuck that was good.
Everyone meaning noone. What are you talking about you fucking idiot.
@@matthewh.9544 you don’t “get it”, junior. Go back to your video games and dad’s vintage Blueboys.
The only song I really like was the one song they said they were making fun of a thrash band. Kind of let me down. Hey were great hit as a teen metal head they were not what I was expecting
OK so the dude is playing bass for Ozzy Osbourne and his buddy wants him to come and audition so he doesn’t have to feel like he got the gig for being his friend which he said people thought that anyway listen if you’re playing for Ozzy Osbourne no audition needed. I mean if I have a band and some dude says hey man I’ve been playing bass for Ozzy Osbourne let me tell you something you’re hired you don’t have to audition. You’ve already auditioned for Ozzy and he hired you you’re good to go
Geezer Butler , Bob Daisley, Rob Trujillo, Rudy Sarzo, to name just a few , Oz has worked with good bassists
Jake was playing for Ozzy, Greg Chaisson had auditioned but didn't get the gig. Phil Soussan got the bass-gig with Ozzy going into the writing of Ultimate. So it was Jake who wanted Greg to audition when he left Ozzy and formed Badlands. I think that's right but could be mistaken. I'm just going off of memory and that's been a long time ago. Phil eventually got canned. He was a bit prone to mistakes live. One stand out err he made was during Secret Loser on the Ultimate Ozzy VHS, filmed in KC. It wasn't a trainwreck but he fell off just a bit, enough to be noticed. Soussan AND Lee were gone by 1987, Bob Daisley stepped in again and recorded No Rest, then he got canned before the tour and Geezer Butler entered Ozzy's life again, lol. Aside from Randy Rhoades, Jake is def my favorite guitarist in all of Ozzy's line-ups. So Badlands was epic!
@Deleting RUclips isn’t easy. if they were headbutted and didn't knock his ass out in retaliation it's their own fault
@@rogersanderscustoms8121 yeah I just listened to an interview with Greg saying he didn't get the gig bc of his looks. He wasn't pretty enough. Then yrs later Sharon called him to come audition again and he said, "Sharon you know me already, I auditioned for ozzy yrs ago. I didn't get the gig bc j was too ugly" . She was taken aback and said let me.call you back...... the call never came lol.
Who really cares what anyone says ? If your friends your friends. Ray Gs mom called and you were worried bout people talking??? LoL
Who cares what people say!
Agree with u bout Singer, dude has issues. Freaking baby
Ha! Looks who’s talking, Princess! Greg is just mad that he wasn’t right all the time and you’re just too much of a snowflake to handle the real truth! You both can get a grip and look who’s talking on who the real babies are…🤣💙
He is without any doubt a kick ass drummer regardless!
Badlands had bad timing.....if that band came out a few years earlier it would have been huge. Shame.
