This is precisely the sort of content I want. I doubt I'll ever have an Origin, but I love watching installs and, in this case, excellent explanations of the process. Thank you and can't wait for the next instalment!
Thank you very much for the support. I am happy you are here!
This series is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Thank you
You're so welcome!
This is so awesome can’t wait for part 2. I myself hoping I get my origin next year god willing.
Thanks for watching!
Man Dave, love this series.
Thanks Shaun! I appreciate your support
I am so excited for ya Dave!
Thanks Juan!!
Very exciting guys. Bad to the bone.
Thanks Bryan!
Thank you for documenting your efforts. I am enjoying your SSL series of videos. People, including myself, don't realize how much work it is to set up one of these. Thanks for explaining how you handle the dynamics problem (a different video) via sends and returns. The walk through of the SSL board itself is excellent and thank you. The comment here applies to several of your videos, and I will be continuing to watch and learn.
Glad you like them! Thank you George for watching and I really appreciate your support!!
Absolutely loving this series.
Great! I am trying to make this channel both fun and educational for people
@@MixingMusicAnalog I like it’s documentary “tell a story over time” vibe.
OH YOU TEASE!!! David awesome! Can't wait to see the next episode!
1-2 vides are coming each week, stayed tuned!
Everyone loves a cliff-hanger...
Super cool!
Thanks Tyler!
Thanks Tyler!
I will most likely never have a console but this is so so interesting to watch. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed!
Good job boys!
Dave was the hero of this one!
@@MixingMusicAnalog ...awwww....
Thanks Jim!
Superb!
Thanks a lot!
I am literally drooling while I'm watching this
I appreciate you watching!
How do you think I feel?
Awesome!!!
Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
very cool
Thank you Marc
Cool
Thanks for checking it out.
Would you only need to patch the channel inputs and outputs to an interface with the DB25 Cables, while still being able to use the group Bus and aux's? Thanks
Correct
are the preamps on the ssl better than the UAD 4-710d? how do i incorporate my eternal preamps and lynx ad/da converter with this console?
I have no idea. I dont have the UAD 4-710. Watch the rest of the videos and you'll see how to hook up your converters to the console
what do those DSub cords do in the apollo to the SSL? What is their purpose? Is it another option instead of connecting multiple XLR mic cables?
They are line outputs to send the audio from the DAW to the console
SSl faderport under the desk that slides out when you are using it and under when your not
no where under the console to mount anything. not even a keyboard tray. Lots of ventilation under the desk where you would want to mount something like that.
What is the desk chair you are using in this video? I have been looking for one that is more like a drum throne, but with wheels, a back and no arms.
Some old chair I got many years ago. I dont know the name brand, sorry
@@MixingMusicAnalog That's OK Dave. I found out it's a drafting chair. I like seat and the footrest bar. I need a new chair so, now is a s good a time as any with all the sales coming up.
Again, a great and very interesting video and info. Question, could you tell me briefly if have you compared the SSL Origin to the SSL AWS model? Any pros x cons aspects? Thank and best regards.
I actually first was going to purchase the AWS prior to the Origin. First off it's twice the price at 100K. The main difference to me was that the AWS has more actual "DAW" control and has what they call "recall assist". You still have to physically touch each pot on the board but they have a software that takes a snap-shot and helps you recall a bit faster. That's the biggest advantage in my opinion but not at literally double the cost. That was a bridge too far for me.
Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I do agree with you cost is always a key influence in the decision making process (versus what comes within such cost). By the way, CONGRATS for your beautiful new SSL Desk. Looks good and for sure Sounds good. Just anxiously waiting to see and hear the next videos. All the best.
Yea, I know that the recall is the one down-fall of working on a true analog desk but its really not that big of a deal for me. I will be doing video on how I will handle the recall situation in the near future. There are some cool apps to keep you from having to do the old "track sheets" so we will explore that option as well!
Great content but I didn't see any patchbays. Do you think they are needed or maybe later on down the road?
Keep watching the video series. There are 4 patch bays now.....LOL
@@MixingMusicAnalog Nice lol
That keyboard right on the edge of the desk gives me RSI just from looking at it. 🙃
LOL
for tracking, are you just using the pres on the console?
not track....this is mostly a mixing studio for now........one day
Have a wolfgang hanging on the wall. Enough said here!!
Thanks for watching!
@@MixingMusicAnalog thanks for the help over email!
So cool! Now, the ins/outs that broke mi brains out, are the faders sends/returns... like, what would you do with those
Those are to insert a piece of hardware on a specific channel. We dont have the need for that just yet
@@MixingMusicAnalog Oh, so with ins/outs from a and to the Apollos you are ready to go?
yes
Will you eventually build a patchbay for this? Seems like you’re losing a lot of routing options that you’d want to use if you’re mixing on an SSL by going direct like that.
It's all ready done my friend! The video has been recorded and coming out this month. Actually we have 2 patch bays and will be getting a 3rd this month to give us much more flexibility in routing
@@MixingMusicAnalog Awesome! Looking forward to seeing it!
Congrats on the SSL! Super jealous. Would you mind explaining why you routed the Apollo outs to the Line In's on the Origin instead of the Monitor In's? Maybe because you won't be using the console to track and you don't need the in-line function of each channel? Just guessing. Thanks a bunch.
Correct, this is really just a mixing desk for me so I though the line in would be the best choice. I am not clear what the "monitor" in dsub does in comparison.
At this point the Line In's allow us the option of using the Drive feature on the PreAmps to add some juice to the incoming tracks...I know the manual suggests the Monitor Ins for DAW input, but it doesn't preclude using the Line Ins...
I think the Mon In is if you are tracking so you can monitor thru the Mon In on the long fader. If you want the Line ins to be on the long fader you just have to “flip” the channel path. With you just mixing, I think the Line in is the way to go. Congrats and that is a bucket list console!!
what a cool series, and thanks for doing this. I always wondered about how these big desks were connected etc!
Thanks for watching. Keep watching the videos. There are a lot of them showing how to install this rig!
@@MixingMusicAnalog awesome, so cool! thanks for your message back
Yikes, Apollo x16?! I love your setup, but I was looking forward to seeing some better converters. I owned a pair of the x16s for almost a year, but they weren't competitive enough, after doing masting converter shootouts. However, I'm confident that you'd still get the job done with much worse! LOL You do own an SSL now. Regardless of my opinion, I'm looking forward to seeing more content!
I have not had any "issues" with the quality of the converters on the U/A stuff, especially the newest offerings. They supposedly upgraded their converters from the last versions. Will see, they can always be sold and swapped out for something else at one point if needed.
@@MixingMusicAnalog -- Great reply! I'm here to support your journey! Peace!
Thanks! I appreciate that. this is as much as a learning experience for me as it is "teaching others". So I welcome all constructive advice.
Look like you lost some weight, kudos. And oh yeah, great content!
Yes! Thank you!
Thanks for the video! You have 32 in and 32 out with that setup. But the master out from the SSL would be two more. How are you going to handle those?
No sure I understand the question? The master out is going to the X16's input so we can "print" the mix back into the dAw.
We eventually decide that we didn't need the 32 direct outs from the board to the X16s...in later videos you'll see us repurpose those cables and set up a master feed back into the X16s for recording a Master Print Track...we ultimately end up also sending the 8 stereo busses to the X16s so we can print the 8 buss stems as well as the master...
@@MixingMusicAnalog Sorry for my bad English. What I mean is: if you wanted to record every direct out and master out all at the same time. Can you do it? Greetings from Argentina
@@MixingMusicAnalog I think he’s asking about X16 inputs to your daw when you are already using 32 returns from the mixing board. The stereo mix from the board needs two more (34 total inputs). Your Apollo X16 * 2 have only 32.
@@elruso7524 Not without adding another interface.
There actually is no video properly shot for this console. You are doing a great job.
Thanks Sam....I will have better quality videos coming soon. These "behind the scenes" video series over the next several weeks is just showing the basics.
Greetings,
this is an amazing video. I'm wondering why you still have the Fusion when you have a real SSL console 🤔.
the Fusion is trying to emulate what a SSL sounds like.
The fusion is not trying to emulate a console.
Dude, what kind of monitor is that. Holy geez. I need one.
it's a TV
What a shame the fusion doesn’t fit. I’m surprised SSL didn’t make the console deep enough.
I know...it only needed to be 2 inches deeper and it would fit.
Does it go up to Eleven?
goes to 12
Oh my god, I'm on RUclips...
You are?
@@MixingMusicAnalog looks kinda like me anyway...
Hi, Mr. Dave very extremly great Board, i like the Balanced colorful high end Sound mr. Dave and your pro audio friend more only on email .
Many thanks!
I subscribe that this will be interesting I hope you can show how you are going to connect the external hardware that you have to be able to use it to the console that catches my attention a bit what method will you use a greeting and great machine is like early Christmas jasjasjajaja
That video is already recorded and coming in August.

great I'll be attentive
The board spelled "SSL Origin" without clipping. lol
LOL....
Either it's really windy in the control room, or someone behind the camera is seriously out of breath 😀
